We were in the area and thought we would check this place out. It is located inside Baldini's Casino. It was not very busy inside and there were a lot of tables open. But there still was a brief wait to be seated. It was about 10am on a Saturday. They have a good selection of menu options and the prices are cheap. Our drink and food orders were taken quickly after being seated. My wife ordered the breakfast burrito and I chose to try the hot pastrami sandwich. The place started to fill up as we sat there. Our food was delivered rather quickly and looked good. Nothing was spectacular but it was decent. If you're looking for basic cheap food this foots the bill. It's Sad and pathetic that these people can't hire enough people to get customers to their tables on a timely manner and they IGNORE people waiting in LINE to get a table. 2) They are not cooking enough of their daily specials and they run out after an hour or so. 3) They probably have the same shitty excuse for not hiring enough people: they don't want to pay people a decent wage. 4) Service has been shit for months (started during the pandemic) and they have done nothing to improve. Came for the prime rib and it did not disappoint. Seasoned taste and tender. Definitely recommend the prime rib. The mashed potatoes and green beans were also delicious. This review is a bit of a different kind of review. We had a wonderful experience that was surprising really good but that was not the best thing about the meal, it was the outstanding service we received. Let's start with the host , he let us order the liver and onions, on a off night. Then the busser with the water always full that was a breath of fresh air. The waitress was so helpful. The really cool thing is when the host/ manger brought us some hot rolls without us asking kudos to him. My wife 's meal was cook to perfection , nothing left on the plate, was clean and that doesn't happen too often she was speechless. I was blown away by that. Located in Baldini's Casino, Empire Diner is quite a busy spot. The prices are cheap, service is friendly. We ordered the prime rib special and ribeye steak dinner. At $14.95, you get what you pay for. What I thought was a phenomenal deal, left me wishing I ordered something else. The prime rib was overcooked and dry. Hubs didn't care for his ribeye either. The quality in the food just wasn't there. Everything was rather bland. We both left most of our meal, wishing we had big dogs to feed the leftover to! We did appreciate our server tho! Thanh was very friendly, speedy and attentive. Thanh's friendly attitude made the experience much better than it actually was. I'm sure that we probably would've been happier if we ordered the usual diner fare. My mother in law loves prome rib for her birthday, so late Sept is prime rib season in our house! She is also high risk & recovering from back surgery, so this year set me on the hunt for good takeout prime rib with all the trimmings! We've been to some of the fancy steakhouses for prime rib, I'd say even the "fanciest" for $$$ prime rib dinners, and dare i say some weren't very good, especially for those extra $$$. I was skeptical of the Empire Diner, honestly, being a typical casino coffee shop...but they offered a few good sized cuts of prime, with sides, salads & rolls, and at a fair price, so i fogured we'd give it a shot. They didn't offer a kids menu (being a casino and all!) but they did offer senior or "lighter appetite" offerings that expanded our choices, plus a menu of wide variety with burgers, sandwiches, soups & salads to all-day breakfasts, omelettes and griddle favorites like pancakes & waffles. Prime rib & steak specials are featured on the dinner menu, but there tons of choices, no matter what you're in the mood for! Hubby & MIL both got the prime dinners, and my son & I had their strip steak & shrimp dinner special. These all came with veg, choice of starch & soup or salad. Baby girl wanted spaghetti with meatballs, and it was enough to feed 2 starving adults!!! It came with salad and garlic bread. What we got was good, honest, no frills food at diner prices. Definitely not the worst we've had, but it was hearty & homey and cooked to our desired temperature. Overall, a big meal for a good price. If you're on the fence, don't be scared off! We eat at Baldinis Empire Diner regularly. The service is great, food is always good, and prices make it affordable to go out to eat. Until just a few days ago...there's a new food snd beverage manager in the picture. He's added a few items to the menu and drastically increased almost all of the menu prices. This place will no longer be nice and affordable for the every day guy or gal to go out to eat. Some items were increased several dollars. Do they not realize paychecks did NOT go up? I don't think they'll be seeing as much of me in the future. For those prices, I'll go somewhere with a quieter restaurant and a more pleasant atmosphere. It's been forever since we have been here and today when we were not sure where to go to brunch we decided on the local establishment. The food here is always a good bargain and for sure you won't leave hungry. We were surprise to find our favorite waiter Tro (his name tag says "Troy", but his name his Tro!) working here. It is always nice to see a familiar face and a great service. All the staff is nice here, but if you get Tro it is your lucky day. The breakfast menu is huge with many options. We remember they used to have unlimited pancakes; however, this promotion is long gone, but even if you order two servings of the pancake stacks your are more than full and the damage is led. Than $10. I ordered the "all meat scramble" an excellent option if you try to maintain your Keto/Paleo diet (try skipping the home fries and the toast or the English muffin). I enjoyed a very late night/early morning "All-Meat" Heart Attack-tac-tac Omelet on hash browns. The cook never skimps on seriously loading your plate up with Sausage and Bacon. The hash browns were perfectly cooked not being too-hot and too-crispy but just right. I do believe the only downside is the speed of service. John on the other hand ( the waiter with the grey mustache got into an argument at the ticket window with another female waitress over an order that he was trying to place over hers. She told him that she had already placed the order and he kept trying to take credit for her order. He was very rude to the waitress and loud and persistent. Just Ehhh. Sometimes I just try a local casino coffee shop and they are great, after pushing through the cigarette filled casino. Today it wasn't worth it. Although Baldinis does have a door right next to this cafe, but all the parking near this door is exclusively handicapped. Canned biscuits are dry, canned gravy is well canned gravy no sausage in it or anything. Requested eggs scrambled well and that was done . Waitress was great. We always have a great time when we go to The Empire Diner. Their staff are so great, remember what you like in great detail. Must mention that we always request to be seated with our favorite waiters....we.never request a female as the only bad experience we had here was with female wait staff. They say "you get what you pay for" and for the most part that is true. At the Empire diner though, you get far more than what you pay for. It's a diner, in a smoky casino, in industrial Sparks... But the breakfast we had was delicious and we walked out just $13 (plus tip) poorer after ordering a full breakfast for two people, on the weekend, and not even from 11 pm until 6 am... He ordered the western skillet breakfast and loved it and I ordered an omelette. Both were served with hash browns and toast of our choice. The omelette was a 4 egg omelette with my choice of three add-ons or fillings, I chose ham, tomatoes and cheese. Yum!! It was delicious. Fluffy, perfectly blended and lightly cooked. The hashbrowns were cooked and seasoned just right too. I ordered sourdough toast and the boysenberry jam at the table topped that off just right. Service was excellent, we were seated in a booth right away. Table service was great, they definitely keep an eye on the tables. My boyfriend looked around once to scan the size of the room and our server came running to fill our waters and make sure that we were ok. It's a Classic style diner, the kind where you pay at the counter when you leave and they ask you how everything was. They've even got the mints and toothpicks there. We had a wonderful dinner here tonight great service my shrimp dish was excellent my husbands all you can eat spaghetti was absolutely delicious and he brought some home. I do have an issue when people bring dogs in a nice restaurant. I do not believe the dogs should be allowed in the restaurant where people are eating in less they are seeing-eye dogs. I do understand this was a "service dog". And I was very kindly told by the hostess that it was a service dog. I like the changes to the menu. My husband had the hot pastrami sandwich, and I had the Patty melt. We each received about half a plate of delicious fries. They are the best fries at any restaurant we've been to in Reno. I would have given 5 stars, but there weren't any onions on my Patty melt. I didn't want to complain but next time I will make sure I mention it if I order the Patty melt. My husband's pastrami was really good, big, and grilled with cheese. It looked great. Hey all stopped at empire diner to try there all you can eat chicken and rib meal. All I can say is DONT do it .. Now the best part of the food was the coleslaw and it lacked any flavor. The veggies were nice and crunchy in the slaw. Now let's start from the beginning. The ribs were over cooked the meat was flavorless, there was actually more flavor in the gristle and fat then in the meat.and every bite was greasy and fatty. On to the chicken it was partially under cooked and also tough yet dry in some parts all in all one of the worst meals I've eaten there, and I believe they soaked the meats in the BBQ sauce to hide the lack of flavor. What's worse is the BBQ sauce was also lacking it tasted like catsup molasses and liquid smoke thrown together and slathered on the meat. All in all I won't order this again. In closing I will say I have eaten here often and there food is usually great especially the fried chicken so if you don't mind braving a smoke filled casino to get a reasonable priced meal give them a try. My Mom probably come here about once a month and usually we get the Prime Rib which is a great deal at about $13! I will say that for some reason, the Prime Rib is much, much better Friday-Sunday, whereas during the week it seems to be a bit more bland and just lackluster. We enjoy getting Fried Zucchini as an appetizer or the Onion rings. Their Clam Chowder, .99 for a cup with your dinner, is pretty good, too! John is our FAVORITE server and we request him every time we go in! Part of that due to the immediate area being an industrial wasteland I guess, with nothing else but a Wendys across the street that was open at 9:30am but appeared to have no actual employees staffing it. But it's also pretty good food at a pretty good price. For breakfast $6 after tax gets you a good-size plate of basic meat, eggs, hash browns, toast. You can get bigger plates of stuff for just $8. $3 or 4 for just a stack of hot cakes.
