Our group of six had a 5:30 PM reservation, and while the restaurant was fairly quiet when we arrived, it was full by the time we left. We started with two bottles of Brunello, both of which were excellent. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari, shrimp cocktail, and others. The calamari was perfectly crisp, packed with flavor. The shrimp cocktail was fresh and delicious as well. For my entrée, I ordered the surf and turf with a filet mignon and lobster tail. I requested both the steak and the lobster dry (not cooked in butter on either), and I wasn't sure what to expect. I also ordered the filet mignon black and blue--charred on the outside and rare on the inside. They absolutely nailed it. Both the steak and the lobster were cooked perfectly, incredibly moist, and full of flavor despite having no butter. It really showcased the quality of the ingredients and the skill of the kitchen. The service was exceptional. The staff brought the appetizers and sides to the table and served each guest individually, making sure everyone was taken care of. It's a level of attention to detail you don't always see, and it made the experience feel even more special. Overall, this is an excellent steakhouse that I'd highly recommend. They also have a private dining room in the back that's perfect if you're hosting a party or special event. We had a wonderful evening and will definitely be back. read more

Came here for a birthday dinner, for one they didn't even check my reservation because if they did they would've known that I noted birthday. They sung it for others but missed the mark with me. I've been to quite a few steakhouses and this one was so bright inside, it took away a little from the intimacy of it. Lastly the chair I was sitting on required some TLC. As for the food, I had oysters and the porterhouse for three and those were great. The porterhouse had good flavor and there was enough steak for me to take home. Also when I went to the restroom my date told me that one of the waiters that was there who checked in on us every so often waited until I walked off to stare at her and give her a compliment. The restaurant itself is great for luxury-like photos, however the chicken parm was not worth the priced it's listed for. Decided to try this place without a rez and it wasn't a big problem, was wondering why there was no wait or anything. The appetizers were absolute trash, thought about sending back both the tuna and the baked clams since they were even worse than what you might expect at a cafe. THE ONLY THING redeeming about this place is the steak. The ribeye had a deep dry aged flavor and was cooked a perfect medium rare as I ordered and was very tender. The sear and crust could have been slightly better but it was excellent regardless. I found it strange to have such a large contrast between the high quality of steak and super low quality of appetizers. They did take the class back since the bread crumbs were soggy. After reaching out via email and receiving no response from Empire I've decided to leave this review. After researching steakhouses for what was a very special day in NYC and settling on Empire I was left disappointed with the meal. The macaroni and cheese was good but not great, the mushrooms were probably the best I've ever had anywhere and I love mushrooms but the filet ruined the meal. On an order of medium rare we were served an overseared on 1 side filet that was left dry and cooked to a well done temp for at least a solid inch into the upper piece of the filet. I have provided pictures showing how unevenly it was cooked. I've looked at countless pictures of reviews left for Empire and this is not the norm. The filet was simply overcooked. We didn't have time for another filet to be cooked as we had tickets to a show afterwards. With countless restaurants and steakhouses to choose from I wouldn't recommend it return to Empire unfortunately. read more

Great location near Times Square. This steak house delivers on good steak at a fair price. It's definitely on the expensive side, but in line for quality steak. We had a large group of over ten people. There were several waiters or bus boys helping us, so they kept topping off water, clearing plates and attending to our needs. Large, dark dining rooms, carpeting, white tablecloths, upper tier service, and your water and wine glasses don't go empty. I ordered their larger filet, medium rare, with sautéed spinach. My wife ordered their smaller filet, medium rare, with sautéed spinach. I also had their French Onion Soup. First, the soup: It was served hot, piping hot with a nice, melted layer of mozzarella cheese in a ceramic bowl. It had plenty of onions, and made me remember what good French Onion Soup tastes like. The filet was served, and it was cooked to order, exquisitely tender and tasted fantastic. I was cutting it in progressively smaller pieces to enjoy it longer. My wife had a similar cut, tender, and delightful on the palate. The wine list was impressive. They even had Chateau Y'quem available, which was a bit beyond my budget, but the first place ever I'd seen that. It took a while to sort through their impressive array of Cabernets, but I finally found one, which was outstanding. For a finish, we split their Crème Brule, which had a nice, caramelized top and was very tasty and delightfully light. The service was absolutely spot on, helpful, and polite. The manager made several visits to see how our dinner was. If you are in New York in the Times Square area, you have to stop in. Loved this place! To me a steakhouse is a steakhouse but Empire just has this old-school NYC vibe you don't see much anymore. The dining room is cozy and plush with banquettes lining either side a couple steps up from the tables in the middle of the floor. The lighting is moody and soothing. Most important to me - the noise level is so low - not by just NYC standards but by any standard. The food is just as satisfying - I ordered the petite filet which was cooked to utter perfection. I am not sure how the reviews are so high? Yelp is usually pretty accurate but not this time. Service was a 4 star. The staff was attentive and food was served timely. Some of the staff couldn't understand our requests. Food was just ok. The eggplant was ok, tasted like a frozen patty smothered in cheese. Ravioli was the best part of the meal. Salmon was tasteless. The biggest disappoint were the salads. Several people didn't want steak, so they order salads. $20 for a small bowl of lettuce and $26 for the Empire salad which is a bowl of onions, red peppers and one shrimp, steak was just ok. Our meal was $170 which wasn't justified by the food. Unfortunately this restaurant is not our recommendation, we would give it 2.5 stars. read more

Finding this place was easy, and upon arrival, we were greeted by the hostess. We had a reservation, but since we arrived early, they initially couldn't find it. After my fiancée showed them our confirmation, they seated us anyway, as the restaurant was nearly empty. However, the hostess informed us we couldn't bring in our recently purchased tea and had to either toss it or leave it up front. In a major tourist area like Times Square, this seemed unreasonable, but we finished our drinks and handed them over, only for them to be discarded. We were seated at the back of the restaurant, where a staff member was oddly cleaning cups. Being the only two guests at the time, we expected better service, but we had to flag down our waiter multiple times. When I asked about gluten-free options, he initially said there were none, then suddenly remembered a few choices. This lack of menu knowledge was concerning (training opportunity). Looking at the drinks menu, I saw a "Champagne & Sparkling Wine" section and ordered an Italian Moscato, expecting it to be sparkling. When it arrived, it was completely flat. I questioned the waiter, and he later admitted it wasn't a sparkling Moscato. Sensing my dissatisfaction, he offered to replace it with a Prosecco, which at least had bubbles but was drier than I expected. The manager later approached with the menu, seemingly to prove their labeling was correct. I explained the confusion and suggested - that they clarify it better to avoid misleading customers. At this point, we were tempted to leave due to the concerns and lack of experience - but decided to give their steaks a chance. We ordered a medium-well NY strip and a medium filet mignon. Thankfully, the steaks were fantastic, with the NY strip being a generous portion, cooked correctly per our request and - smokes it was huge with a bone! Fantastic food and service next door to our hotel! Staff was very friendly to my family which includes a 7 yr old. We had the branzino, crab cakes, Mac and cheese and broccoli. We ate here for lunch during restaurant week special for $45. Beautiful restaurant! The servers were very friendly, they seated us immediately. We had reservations via Open Table but there's was enough room for a walk in on a Monday afternoon. The three slices of bread was warm and we had it with the butter. For starters: - Extra Thick Sizzling Canadian Bacon: the meat melts in your mouth and lived up to its name, the bacon is thick. - Fried Calamari: crispy and delicious! It comes with the sauce. Entree: - Filet Mignon: you can choose how the meat is cooked, we chose medium. They gave us a special knife to cut the meat. On the table there's pepper shaker and their signature Empire sauce to use if you like. The French Onion Soup was really good, and the only reason I'm not rating this restaurant with 2 stars. A lot more was not good.. We ordered Pasta that was over-cooked and a Filet medium rare, that was served rare (Dark red bloody thru 3/4 of the steak and blood on the plate after cutting into it) ..yes I know what medium rare should be.. this was Rare. our server either did not know.. or more likely, didn't want to take initiative to send it back to the kitchen. He could see it wasn't right. I'd also have expected to see some management oversight and checking on guest experiences.. there was none of that either. Grabbed their Quick Lunch Menu sometime this past week and was astonished. The caliber of service, flavor and diversity for such a reasonable cost is insane. I also noticed that the setting was so luxurious, and elegant. I think it would be a great place to celebrate a special dinner or just to treat yourself after a long work week. I recommend their French Phantom Manhattan, it's a knockout cocktail with harmonious flavor. Every dish ordered was prepped with precision, from the Mixed Salad to the Filet Mignon.. The best steak I have ever eaten from a restaurant, and I can't wait to return and taste the other menu highlights.
