    Excellent steak

Went here before seeing a show (Moulin Rouge), on 5/17/24, and have to say I was impressed. The staff was very warm, friendly, and attentive. The dishes were very well prepared. Of particular note was the fillet mignon. Excellent. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

Classic American dishes done well. From service to cocktails, nothing disappointed. The spring rolls are to die for and the mozzarella triangles with marinara hit the spot. Each dish was delicious and classically prepared, a great spot for a night out

Underwhelming. We stopped for lunch. Thought that we were in for a treat considering the lobster bisque was yummy and the oysters were perfection but sadly that was not the case . Ordered steak medium , had to send it back because it was over cooked and when they brought it back to me , it wasn't the best tasting . He got the ny strip , which tasted so much better than mine . They only offered 1 cabernet sauvignon by the glass . It was ok I guess. We ordered mushrooms and lobster mac . Everything was just "ok" Upside- the bartender was A1. Those old fashioned helped BIG TIME . Just go straight to the bar next time.

Our first food stop when we arrived in New York! We were three of about 10 people total in the restaurant. They had a great lunch menu with a variety of choices. We had the lobster bisque, Caesar salad with chicken, and steak sandwhich. The food was AMAZING. One of the best Caesar salads we've ever had. Only complaint was our server took a while to come back after we had finished eating. We wanted to get walking and he was nowhere to be found for a while.

Greetings and salutations yelpers. My first review as an Elite Yelper..yay me! Ok, this spot was on my spreadsheet and last minute dinner with an out of town friend decided to dined. I was so looking forward to an amazing meal and sadly that was not so. Our waiter, not the most engaging, a bit stand blunt. No engaging conversation, recommendations etc. To start the bread brought to table seemed like dinner rolls one would purchase in the supermarket. Appetizers: we ordered the baked clams and baked shrimp. Both very bland and needed some form of seasoning. As a new found baked clam lover I was very disappointed. Avid shrimp lover disappointed once again. Main course: Shrimp Milanese, once again lacking in flavor. It felt like something to be served in a pizzeria and not worth the $34. So much breaded didn't recognize it was shrimp and wondered if they gave us chicken instead. Lobster Vodka Pasta: the saving Grace which made my rating 3 instead of 2. It was delicious and flavorful and made me wonder how the other dishes were so bland. Another reason for the low score was the constant interruption from various staff asking how are things. I get it you want to be attentive, but it was overkill and it really curtailed the ability for my friend and I to catch up with what is happening in our lives. After a while not to be rude, it was annoying. All in all I really had high hopes and was looking forward to a great dinner but sadly it was just mediocre. The wow factor I was expecting was not to be.

We popped in for Happy Hour. We sat at the bar and were served in a very timely matter. The bartender was very friendly. Nice Happy Hour Menu. We had the Baked Clams, the Mussels (in white wine sauce), and the Mac and Cheese. It was all excellent! The bread they served us was really great. Especially dunking it in the "juice" of the mussels! The mussels and the clams were perfectly cooked and both nice and small. They weren't Huge clams or Mussels like they were on steroids!! Drinks were good! Price was extremely reasonable. For happy hour we had 3 small bites, and 3 drinks, $65.00! And it was all great!

My sister decided this is where she wanted to go for her 29th birthday. Not everyone wasn't pleased with the prices on the menu but I will say if your looking to go here with family and not sure what to get the penne lobster pasta it was so delicious for me. It was so creamy and filled with lobster pieces not as much lobster as I would've liked only because I love huge lobster chucks. But overall this is a great choice if you want good filling food for a decent price.

Ate here on a fall break trip 2 October 2023. Being in New York City after a long day of site seeing I was looking forward to a great dinner. This place seemed like the best from walking a couple blocks. The atmosphere was. Ice and the gentlemen greeting us at the door was fantastic. Super nice guy. Wish I would have caught his name. I'm from the south I wasn't expecting the kind welcome like we get in the south. Entering the restaurant I was pleased with how everything looked and was ready for a great meal. When the waitress came to the table there seemed to be a language barrier, to be understandable for New York and their smashing of culture and my hillbilly accent from Kentucky. Ha. Maybe this could explain the mix up in food preparation. I ordered the 14oz ribeye medium rare and it was served rare. Overall the taste of the steak was very bland. They literally put no seasoning on the steak and the fat rendered no flavor. The cut was very pour and had a lot gristle, making it hard to cut. Was very disappointed in the steak. Maybe I should have expected that from the name of the restaurant; note do not order steak from a seafood restaurant. You will always be disappointed. My wife ordered the wedge salad and was pleased, made comment that the bacon added the finishing touch. My daughter ordered the meatball and spaghetti, my daughter is very well traveled and keeps her on blog on Yelp saod the spaghetti sauce was very cheap and tasted like something from a can at a grocery store. It's just OK. Soup was lukewarm, pasta with clams was fairly tasteless and the bread was so hard and stale it was uneatable.

I enjoyed the lobster bisque it was the right level of richness, the crab cake was good but more like a crab salad. Bread was warm and fluffy and soft. An old fashioned was ordered, so I thought it was confusing that it came with a smoke presentation, only when I got the bill did I realize that was provided was the version that was more than double the cost the Añejo Old Fashioned, which was disappointing and wished the waiter either brought the right version or asked for clarity. I got the short rib and I think that's where things started to take a turn. There were fatty pieces but most of all it was increasingly salty . I took it home and tried it the next day and still was just as salty. The filet according to my husband was perfectly cooked. Side dishes are always great at steakhouses, but the lobster Mac and cheese was underwhelming. It lacked that cheesy component especially when multiple cheeses are used and compared to most steakhouses was not great. Dessert we got the butter cake and the cheesecake. We both enjoyed the butter cake, it had a rich buttery caramel taste; the cheesecake was on the small side but also really had a fridge/freezer taste to it and tasted really generic. Atmosphere was nice, service was good, but compared to other steakhouses it missed the mark with my entree, dessert, and lobster Mac.

Ambiance: This place has a nice ambiance, definitely very "New York" -- dark (you can't see how dirty the floor is) and loud music (maybe too loud). We sat upstairs (we had a reservation) and of all the people on the top there was a party of 4 (us), a party of 8 (all dudes celebrating something) and the rest of the tables were on a DATE - which I thought was funny. Service: We were served by Ann-Marie who was so delightful. She was kind, super nice, and took the time to speak to us (which is basically how we figured out she wasn't a native New York City person). She gave us good food suggestions and we were very happy with our selection. Food: Here is what we ordered * Steak Frites: My two boys got the steak frites and I have to say the steak was awesome! I had a bite of each of theirs and they each ordered it differently (one Medium Rare/Medium and one Medium) and they both were prepared PERFECTLY. The fries were overflowing. * Caeser Salad with Salmon: My wife got the salad with Salmon (they only have a few salad options) and she enjoyed it. * Prawn and Crab Risotto: I got this and I have to say it was VERY bland. I wouldn't get this if you are looking for taste. I had to put salt and pepper on it to make it have any semblance of taste. Value/Price: I would say this is not over priced but it is not cheap either...bill is attached. I would recommend it to folks who are looking for a good place to either go out on a date or a family type meal.

And considering this restaurant has been around since 1885, they likely happened here itself. The cigar smoke that once clouded the halls have been replaced with a more casual ambience - particularly at lunch, where I found myself. Still though, the various halls, stairs, and old framed pictures and art that hang give you the feeling that you sit where those who made the decisions once sat. And I find that really cool. So ultimately this is still a restaurant. Despite being a steakhouse, they're most known for their mutton chop - something that comes in a 26 oz, gigantic saddle cut that includes both the loin and the tenderloin of a sheep. I was by myself this meal - so there was no way I was getting that. Thankfully - and this is something I really appreciate - they offer a 10 oz version of the same iconic dish, known as the Taste of Mutton, for a much smaller price. Don't have much to add on the bread/butter that came out first. Both were relatively standard. Then came the mutton chop, which I asked to be cooked medium. The first thing that was clear was they left the au jus under the meat, which I appreciate. It provided a fantastic dipping/mixing combination for the salad also present on the plate. This was quite good. The cook was basically perfect, as essentially all the fat rendered really well. Most of the fat is concentrated on the two belly flaps on either side, and the loin part is on the leaner side, but I didn't think this harmed it too much. As far as the taste, I'd describe it as more similar to steak than I thought. I was expecting something on the gamier side closer to duck, but this felt a lot more like steak tenderloin than anything else. It was pretty juicy at every point - not really being dry at all - and I got a lot of umami from it. There were a few downsides though. One is that the crust was pretty lacking. I was expecting dark brown and a char from the high-heat broiler used, but what I got was more glossy, medium-brown, and shiny. It didn't feel special texture wise at all, and the texture wasn't really there. Also, it wasn't seasoned with enough salt. I had to add a lot more from the salt shaker on my table. Something that really helped was the mint jelly. This might be the best condiment I've ever been given on a cut of meat. The mint flavor works so well with the sweetness of the jelly. It's not like mint ice cream - it's kind of like a really clear and good-tasting toothpaste, if that makes sense. But it pairs amazingly well with the rich, umami, fatty meat. The combination of this condiment on the mutton was ridiculously addicting. I paid around 45 in total including tax/tip for this chop. I'd say the taste of mutton is enough for one person, including the bread that you also get. On the expensive side, but glad that this exists so I don't have to get the full thing. Overall, it's an iconic place that still retains its old stature, and makes some high-quality food still, although I was more impressed by the environment than the dish. 8.75/10
