Wowzers.. hard to explain how good this place is... this is an institution and should be celebrated. The food is perfect regardless of your menu choice .. however I recommend the incredible enchiladas!! I've had the chicken w verde sauce and beef w/ meat n cheese sauce and both are unbelievable !!! this place is top-notch and among the best enchiladas in Texas, don't skip on the margaritas.. the frozen's are cheap and amazing. So this review is coming from a HUGE FAN of enchiladas y mas! I've been coming here for the past 12 years easily! An amazing hidden gem of a restaurant, so when I say it hurts me to write this review truly it does! Me and my family come here to eat atleast 2-3 a month. Never had any issues. Ever. I ordered a fajita salad. I ate the guacamole on the outer side with the chips, and then started eating the salad all mixed together and noticed the meat was really cold. Like not cooked all the way. So I gave it the benefit of the doubt and took a few more bites, when I noticed the meat was just cold, I asked if there was a way to possibly re make the salad. I was told no because I had finished the whole salad already basically. I asked what could be done and they said they could bring me a fajita taco out so I could put some meat and mix it with the cold meat. By the actual owner. I was legit hurt because this is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. Truly. I gave it 2 starts because I plan on giving it another chance, maybe she was having a bad day or something, but I was just in awe that they didn't want to do anything about it and told me nothing would be done since my whole salad was finished. read more

Yet, there are lines of people going into this place and the parking lot is always full. I did not see one Latino in the place, which is pretty telling. Love me some Y mas definitely the best hole in the wall Mexican food in Austin. Anything with the beef fajita I will leave a helpful tip though! If your party isn't complete, they will not seat you. Even if there's just 1 person missing. Our brother was trying to park (parking is tricky), I asked them if we could sit and she said fine.. but if he wasn't there in 5 min they'd have to split our table. Luckily he made it in time! I used to come here all the time. I would eat here as a source of good luck whenever I would apply for a job or go for an interview. If people owed me money I would also accept a meal at Enchiladas Y Mas. I almost cried when I heard that it closed during the pandemic, but am so glad that it opened up again. Now that I live in New Mexico it's hard to get Tex Mex Enchiladas and so, now, whenever I'm in Austin I go here and depending on how hungry I am I will either get 2 Beef Enchiladas or if I'm more hungry I'll get the Cunado Special. This is old school, authentic, unvarnished tex mex at its finest. The service is excellent, the decor is old school and no frills. It is cheap and cheerful. At the end of pur meal the server asked us if he could bring us anything else, like a pillow. Yep. The margaritas are nice and strong, the cheese enchiladas are ooey-gooey. This place was a winner! I have no idea how these out-of-towners found this place but I am thrilled we did. It's the perfect mom and pop joint and it doesn't seem like a tourist trap... But how would I know after a margarita. We went on a Tuesday evening and the wait was 30 minutes... Even longer for the people lining up after us. Went yesterday around 3pm and even though raining, found a parking spot in the lot not too far from the door which is rare. Consistently good food here. Ordered small margaritas which I guess for their locals during the week they spike them. We ordered Enchiladas Con Queso and Enchiladas Rancheras and a Flauta plate...we split the flautas, rice and beans. Everything we perfect, hot and flavorful. Great place to go but Uber in and out for best experience. I can see how this restaurant could expand and upgrade but without an expansion of their menu it wouldn't work. They need an ala carte selection, upgrade the 55+ menu, add some more items like charro beans, black beans, add specialty items like chiles poblano etc. They keep it simple here like they like it. My favorite Mexican restaurant in Austin, Texas. It has become increasingly more popular over the years and for good reason. This place is a hidden gem and has some of the best Tex Mex food I've ever had. We always get the chips and queso to start. I could literally drink the queso by the gallon. It is so delicious, by far one of my favorite Quesos. Next, the fajitas. They have such a great smokey flavor and they don't skimp out in the meat. We got fajitas for two and we had plenty left over. Affordable and good! The place is Definitely not fancy. But the margaritas are delicious, and the queso is legit! Every time I've been by, there is a line out the door, so be prepared to wait. Servers are attentive and fast, they want to turn over tables and get people in and out, but they never make you feel rushed or like you're inconveniencing them or anything like that. read more

We've driven pass this establishment many times and there's always a crowd out front so we assumed this place would be great. Our waiter was unbelievably terrible. It took 5 requests to get lemons and straws for our water, my wife ordered tacos with beans n rice but only got tacos not once did he come back to check on us and than after he gives us the check I see him standing around talking with co workers etc for 10 minutes then he comes towards us and I'm thinking he's bringing my card back to sign but he pulls up a chair and starts talking to another customer. Needless to say he saw the look on my face and ran to go get my receipt. This is the Platonic Form of Tex-Mex. It's the only place I know left in Austin where you can get Tex-Mex as it was in Austin 45 years ago. The salsa is fiery; the margaritas strong and delicious; the enchiladas piping hot, swimming in sauce, and, well, ethereal. This is the perfect place to get a nice buzz on a budget. Drinks are smooth and tasteful and the staff is wonderful! I've been coming here since I was a kid and I rave to my friends to come try their margaritas and enchiladas. Some reviews may complain about wait times getting food/etc., but remember this is a mom and pop shop, so be kind. It's very very rare that you'll have to wait for food/drinks. Of course, this place gets very busy on the weekends. Everyone is so wonderful here, but if you happen to come across an Amy, Carmen, or Eva, say thank you and display a warm smile. Expectations did not meet the product delivered. One thing they get right. The plates come out piping HOT. Very important in TexMex cuisine. Enchiladas were average at best. Not flavorful like El Phoenix or Enchiladas in North Texas area. Mind you these were just cheese with Ranchero sauce . Drinks were large, margs are potent. Batch salsa is okay but again not flavorful to my buds. They don't purée it, so it is chunky. Queso - just skip it. Its like melted velvetta. They use this same "cheese" but shredded on their tacos. Eek. Locales love it. The experiences they have yet to discover are still there for the taking , if they just take the step out the door. If the food was excellent then $25-30 per person would be acceptable. But the food is just not excellent. The reviews on this place are higher than One would expect. This place is popping during lunch time! Coming here on a weekday around noon gets you a 30 min wait and you see all sorts of people waiting to grab a plate of this legendary local establishment. I came with a friend who raves about this place and while it was enjoyable to be sure, I felt it was a-ok. Service is great, food comes quick, but flavor is just meh to me. Your meal starts with chips and salsa and that salsa has a kick. It's a slow burn but it also kicks the back of your throat once you start eating more of it. And as for entrees, everything is pretty affordable, especially the lunch specials and is definitely a lot of food. I got the carne guisada plate, which is tender chunks of stewed meat in gravy, a lot of refried beans and rice, with some flour tortillas if you want to make tacos. Like I said, it's plenty of food at a good price point, but I do feel the food is a bit on the bland side. They aren't lying about the margaritas being strong - get the top shelf one over the regular (still only $8 and was much better). Be aware: this is a complete hole in the wall! We came on a Sunday afternoon for take out and the place was packed! Parking lot totally full and people waiting in cars / outside for their to go orders. We went in to place an order to go and the hostess was really nice, it was our first time there and she made suggestions for the menu. We got the beef enchiladas with red sauce and chicken enchiladas with green sauce and a small side of Guac. They give complimentary chips and salsa even for to go orders! Randomly? Their enchilada plates come with extra tortillas on the side, you can choose corn or flour, we got one set of each. So the free chips and salsa are great, salsa was nice and spicy, chips were warm when they were bagged up. The side of guac was reallllyyyy small for the price but tasted fresh. Probably wouldn't order it again tho, it was half the size of the salsa container. The enchiladas were good, they weren't like amazing. They had a ton of cheese but not nearly enough sauce. We preferred the chicken and green sauce, maybe if the amount of sauce had been doubled they would have been outstanding. Rice and beans were solid. This is our go-to Mexican restaurant in Austin. GREAT food and CHEAP drinks in a simple atmosphere. There is nothing special about the ambiance, but the food is so good and the prices are so reasonable that it doesn't matter that there's a drop ceiling and fluorescent lighting.
