First of all... on their menu the name "rolled tacos" made me chuckle a bit (Texans call these taquitos)... but they were outstanding! The crisp of the fried tortilla was perfect and the shredded chicken was actually seasoned well. I knew I could not eat 4 which comes on the plate, so the manager allowed me 2 and charged me accordingly. That was going above and beyond my expectations which I greatly appreciated! Tonight I got the: Carne Asada Burrito Side fries Side rice Kids quesadilla Overall was more expensive than I anticipated at $40 but food was good. I'd like for them to expand to a few items for a kids menu, but the only option presented was a cheese quesadilla. Other items are too expensive to order for a toddler. The staff was welcoming. Location was spotless clean and felt 10/10 clean too. They've made the most out of a small location. Seating is a little tight but it'll work. Quality of the food was great. Having just polished off the California burrito about 30 seconds ago, oh man, that was satisfying! I have been missing a California burrito for the last 10 years of my life since moving to Austin and this really did a great job at helping to scratch that itch. The flour tortilla is wonderful, not too thick but with a good stretch to be able to contain everything. The carne asada has a decent char to it, and the fries have a really nice crisp. I don't know why anyone would choose rice and beans over french fries inside the burrito. Overall, 4.5 stars. The half star off is because I had to pay extra for guac and sour cream. At minimum, sour cream should be standard in a California burrito. And and the cheese inside the burrito didn't have time to melt. But all in all, somewhere I'll be coming back to. read more

Wow...RUNNNN don't walk to Tacolada! Finally got to check them out for ourselves after hearing so many amazing comments. They have the cutest fun decor. Absolutely love their Cali Beach vibes. They have some pretty awesome merch too you can check out as you wait to place your order. We wanted to order everything on the menu it all sounded so good! We finally were able to narrow it down to the Surf N' Turf fries, Chips & Guac, Carne Asada Quesadilla, Baja Shrimp Taco and Baja Fish Taco. Honestly way too much food, but yay for leftovers! Lol we paired it with a Mexican Coke and Jarritos. They also have beer available. All our dishes were packed with flavor and you can tell they use fresh ingredients. It came out quickly and hot. Oh and don't slip on the salsa bar. They have three flavors you can self serve. Tacolada, All Day Verde and Honey Habanero. I think my fav was the Honey Habanero. Sweet and spicy! The Surf N' Turf fries are huge! I would say this dish alone is perfect to share for two and probably still have leftovers. If you can't make up your mind this is perfect. You get the steak, shrimp and fries. The quesadilla was pipping hot and perfectly cheesy. For the tacos my favorite was the Baja Fish. The hand breaded Mahi isn't overly battered and nice crisp. Top each bite with the Honey Habanero and you have the perfect combo. I was just missing the view of the Cali beach and ocean breeze! If you ordered too much like us just ask the staff for some to go boxes and they give you the cutest to go bag too. Whoever did their marketing amazing job! So much more to explore on their menu. Was excited to check out the new concept from the Kebab Shop owners, specializing in san diego style burritos (ive had them in SD, theyre amazing). The shop is located in the arboretum close to trader Joe's and their kebab shop location. We got the san diego burritos, which are famous for having fries in them with carne asada. Positives: -Burrito is huge and the quality is excellent, the tortilla is hand made and has a wonderful blistered quality to it -The carne asada is top tier -Salsa bar is great, although I wish they had more options Negatives: -Restaurant is tiny and not very comfortable to sit in -it was HOT inside the restaurant. Nearly 82 degrees. Not great for june weather with hot food and it dampened the experience The burrito runs about $20 which is up there, but the quality makes up for it imo. Hope to try some of their other offerings like the shrimp burrito and one with guacamole in it. read more

Always love trying new places, especially taco places in Austin. This place intrigued me because I think Austin is somewhat of an epicenter for taco places in general. I mean there are a lot of places here with a lot of Taco choices, so I wanted to see how this place stacked up. Seeing there from San Diego. I was pleasantly surprised. I must admit. I had the carne asada taco and the Pollo asado Taco. Both were excellent. I would say that my my favorite was the Pollo asado Taco because the carne asada taco was slightly tough and had a bit more chew. They give you a green sauce choice and a red sauce choice serve yourself style. I thought the tortilla was good as well and the filling was plentiful. So for a lunch treat two tacos filled up the tank. Happy to say this will be on our repeat list. read more

It's nice to have Cali flavors here in Austin. This is a good quick lunch spot; they do have beer, which is a plus. We ordered the Cali burrito carne asada and a carne asada quesadilla. The burrito was yummy, and I would get it again, but the quesadilla, they didn't let the cheese melt fully. The portions are really nice-sized, and the service was amazing for a newly opened spot; we really liked it. We did meet the owner, who was super nice. Will be back to try other menu items. To start, this place sells SoCal (San Diego to be more exact) Mex here, so if you cannot betray your love for Tex-Mex, this might not be the Mexican food you are looking for. My son and I came here for lunch, and we were super excited because we have been waiting to try this food since last summer when we saw this place was going to be added to the shopping center. The vibe in here, everything from the music I grew up listening to when I grew up in San Diego to the cool suitcase with all the surfer stickers (T&C Surf, Maui and Sons, and a bunch of other stickers that covered our skateboards in the 80's and 90's), just made me feel like I was home in the 619. The young man who took our order was very polite and friendly, as well as the staff who put the food on the counter. We ordered the carne asada burrito (probably the best carne asada burrito I have had since moving away from SD), a fish taco, and chips with guacamole. All of it was on point. The chips had a very good seasoning added to it that is or is similar to Tajin. I would definitely order all of this again. If only they did rolled tacos like they used to make them at Hilbertos (if you are from SD, you know what I am talking about), I would eat here everyday. Bottom line, this place is great. Even if you do like Tex Mex, give this place a try. You never know, you might like it more than Tex Mex. I never thought I would ever say, "I've had CA style Mexican food and it was good", but I have now and it was awesome!! My wife grew up in San Diego and is always on the lookout for something close to what she used to eat and Tacolada apparently hit the nail on the head. She and my kiddo tried it last week and loved it so I went on Saturday. I had a shrimp taco and crane asada fries. Both had amazing flavor, which surprised me because most CA carne asada I have had in restaurants has either been really dry or super greasy. This carne asada was flavorful and moist without being greasy. Everything was seasoned perfectly and the tacolada salsa (the orange one) kicked up the flavor of everything it was added to. We are definitely going back so I can try even more of their offerings. The staff was friendly and the food came out quick. I think I found a new lunch hangout!!! read more

I had to give this place a try since they claimed that they have San Diego California style tacos. Being a San Diego native, that's a tall order to live up to in Texas. The tacos were good, and definitely had a San Diego flare to them. I think they need to work on the seasonings a little bit, but overall a solid entry for SoCal style tacos. The service was good, and the young lady taking our order did a very good job. It was fun to watch the cooks, make our tacos, and they were served to us fairly quickly. Seating is a little tight, but it would be easy to just get the tacos and eat them in your car too. I'd like to try some of the other tacos the next time I'm in the area. read more

If you like fillers like rice and beans, don't come here. My only recommendation would be to up the salsa game. As someone who grew up in San Diego, I was looking forward to this. We sorely need more SoCal Mexican food here. Obviously, had to get the California Burrito. Service is friendly :) The burrito was fine. It's small by socal standards. But where it really drops stars is the salsa bar. Anyone who knows, knows the salsa bar is one of the most important features. Each one was super bland. There is zero depth of flavor. It's just medium, hotter, hot. No burnt char. No bits of garlic or goodness ground up. If they fix this, it easily jumps to 4 stars. My wife got the breakfast burrito with carne asada. There was barely any steak. It was mostly egg. Worst of all, she spotted the liquid eggs carton in the kitchen so texture was really off. Fresh eggs would be way better. Overall, pretty mid by San Diego standards. Have missed rolled tacos in San Diego for the 30 years we've lived in Austin. So when we saw this place opening last week it was a no brainer to try them out. The crunch on the taquitos was on pointe and the guacamole was perfect. I deleted the marinated onion slices on top....must be a new add on that I didn't want. Goat cheese was good and their house salsa was a bit hot and worked perfectly. Talked to a bunch of folks in line who were also from Southern California. Funny to see people trying to get their hit of SOCA Mexican food. My husband constantly suggests getting on a plane to fly to San Diego for a hit of real taquitos and a carne asada burrito at Robertos. So maybe now he'll quit suggesting it. As someone who grew up and lived in SD for 24 years, I had really high hopes for this place. After getting non stop ads from social media about this place, I had to give it a try. Cali Burrito -added guac. Overall decent but having cold unmelted cheese took it down several notches. Fries were crispy and meat was not bad. Carne Asada fries - this one was disappointing. best way to describe this is if Chipotle were to make Carne Asada Fries, this would be it. Too many acidic components in one dish (Pico, Sour Cream, pickled Onions). Felt way too healthy and "fresh" to be San Diego Style carne asada fries. Also the cheese on this, not sure what kind of cheese was used but I imagine it was melted in a big batch under a broiler or salamander and the cheese just stuck everything together. In SD the overall heat of freshly made fries would be good enough the melt the cheese and not be clumpy. Salsa Bar / Hot sauces - My personal opinion is that a taco/burrito spot lives and dies by their salsa bar and this one missed the mark. Salsas were vinegar based and none were actually spicy. They had a habanero honey which I could barely taste any habanero, mainly just vinegar. Came in with too high of hopes but this is probably the closest I've gotten to a taste of home in ATX. Overall, didn't remind me of SD style Mexican food, maybe something that you could get in North County. read more

Ever since moving to ATX from SoCal, I've had a hankering for California burritos with few options to go with--until now! The California burrito was the first item I ordered here and it did not disappoint. It was super solid and had the tasty fries you expect to have in your burrito. The ones I am used to usually have a dab of sour cream in the middle, but they have plenty of delicious sauce options to dip your burrito in. We also tried the shrimp, asada, and fish tacos and they were all quite tasty too. The servers were very friendly and were quick to make our food. The ambiance is what you'd expect from a fast casual lunch spot, though I would say it is very clean compared to many of the SoCal burritos establishments I'm used to. Tex-Mex is obviously great here, but San Diego-style Mexican food has its own distinct identity and is extremely worthy in its own right and Tacolada does an excellent job representing it. The owner is from San Diego, and it shows. The food is on point, flavorful, fresh, and a great reflection of that Southern California Mexican style. Well, I devoured my taco de asada and all of my food. I started eating my asada fries when I remembered to take a picture. They have little mini churros that are so good! Definitely try them! The asada taco tortilla tastes so good, had me wondering if they can sell just the tortilla itself. Overall, they have a fun fresh flavor and charbroiled meats. Serviced was great. The ingredients taste clean and have excellent flavor. The guac is lemony and salty just like I like it. The fries have a great crisp. The carne asada is the perfect flavor and texture and not over seasoned. I don't know how you could improve on this burrito. As someone who has extensively searched for and documented every best CA burrito, this surpasses a lot of my go-tos and earns a top ten stop in my favorite burritos anywhere. My wife also enjoyed the Baja fish taco. Great crispy fish. Nothing soggy. And the corn tortilla tasted like it was made with care and did not suppress the flavors of the ingredients. I also tried the Tacolada Sauce it was good and spicy. however the buzzer went on to early as they have not finished my order. The young man at the counter was awesome helping with our order. While we didn't necessarily love the fish tacos-we were happy to see a fish option that wasn't dirt fish-i mean catfish. the carne Asada & shrimp tacos were amazing! Chips & guac were legit too!
