So we are out and about in DTSP and craving pub food. The wings and burgers are so good here and it has been a while so here we are. Note that what you read on the menu is what is on top of a burger made with their special blend. It is so good on it's own but they add the other options and it is at a whole new level. They still have most of the burgers we have had here before and deciding is always tough. Since Locale closed and took away my St Petersburger I have been searching for my new No 1. This place has lots of contenders. I like spicy and have had a few of them but tonight was the 504. Peanut butter and bacon. Yummy! It's good 10 minutes drive to the near downtown area of Saint Petersburg, FL. I ordered the Hot dog and husband had the non spicy burger. Stopped in on my way to enchant. First of all Yelp says this is a kid friendly place ... they only have boosters, no high chairs and it is very loud. Yes, I know it's a bar but not all bars are this loud. It's almost like the sound gets stuck in the small space. Absolutely LOVED this place! I was in St. Pete and just felt like a good ass burger. So, hopped on Yelp and this place had some good reviews. My friend and I were discussing it when a random stranger who overheard our conversation started RAVING about how delicious their burgers were. So we decided it must be fate. The inside definitely has a bar feel with sports playing on all of the TVs. The staff was super friendly in recommending their most popular burgers. We went with the bacon cheeseburger and the Wine-O burger. Y'all. That Wine-O burger was absolutely mouthwatering. My husband and I love engine no 9! This was our first trip, and we can't wait to go back. All of the staff we came in contact with was friendly, personable, and gave great service. I got the wine-o burger, 10/10! The burger was juicy, and the combination of the sauce and fried onions provided so much flavor. The calamari fries were perfectly crispy without overcooking the meat, it was delicious. The restaurant is located in downtown St. Pete which can make parking tricky at times, so be mindful of that but don't let that stop you from visiting. Can't wait to return! read more

Darkly lit, small and quaint, TVs at the booths, high tops near the bar, great conversation sections and the couple burgers my partner and I have had since we've moved here (probably 6 total now) have all been PHENOMENAL. There's not one that's better than the other, it just depends what you're craving particularly that day. He goes curly fries, I go straight and we share. We haven't tried other menu items yet just because the burgers are large and filling, but once we have more people with us in our party we will try more! I have been a loyal customer here since it opened despite the jacked up prices for a simple burger or wings. I don't know why but I've always been drawn here. I think it's because every time I've walked in, I felt a sense of community when warmly greeted by the usual bartender or the kind servers who are on staff. Today changed ny perspective by a hard 180. My friend and I (and her dog) had been walking around in the hot sun all day. I was craving a cold tap beer and a burger. Naturally, we headed to ENGINE NO 9. Since we had our service dog in tow, we went all the way to the end of the bar- away from everyone by the bathroom. The bartender on duty (Sarah) was quick to throw a sku in front of us and tell us to order from the menu that pulled up. We were happy to do that though we could feel from her tone and body language that she wasn't having a good day. We scanned and were about to order when Sarah asked us why we had a dog with us. We explained she was a service dog. My friend is an army veteran and suffers from severe ptsd and anxiety. Sarah then proceeded to ask us to 'prove it'- whether or not the docile, geriatric dog was indeed a service animal. We didn't have our credentials with us- we take Stella everywhere and have never had an issue (St. Pete was voted the most dog friendly city in Florida). Sarah singlehandedly made us leave this bar. We were polite, quiet, paying customers and she THREW US OUT. I have pictures of my kids in this restaurant eating lunch with local law enforcement- I never spend less than $100.00 when I visit! I am so disgusted at how I was treated and how an Army Vet was disregarded- this is NOT a good look for you, Engine no 9. You're named after essential workers- firefighters! How do you think it looks when your front of the house bartender treats good and loyal patrons like trash? I don't think I'll ever be back. Sarah- you need a lesson in how to treat customers. My husband called to place a pick up order on Saturday evening and was told he had to use the app. He ordered, went to pick it up and the same person told him the order was declined because they had no food, the food truck didn't come in. So he downloaded the stupid app for nothing, then we find out you don't have to download the app, you can order online. And why didn't she tell him they were out of almost everything then? The location is relatively small with bar seating and table tops toward the front and a small room in the back with more tables and personal screens for watching your favorite sports or shows.
