We've lived up here over 5 years and always talk about coming here. The parking lot always seems packed. The reviews seemed good so we made a reservation and gave it a go. . It seems to cater to an older crowd. The prices are very reasonable, however, the food was good not great. Entrees come with a basic side salad. We all really enjoyed the croquettas even though you cannot taste the beef. The cilantro sauce was a nice accompaniment. I ordered the Snapper Havana which has a nice sauce on it with peppers and onions. The portion size wasn't large and the fish was a tad fishy tasting so I couldn't finish it. Rice and beans were basic. My boyfriend got the Chicken Alfredo and he should have asked for more sauce. The pasta was dry but he enjoyed the generous portion of chicken on it. Dine like a local! This Cuban spot is owned and operated by a charming husband/wife team who have been in business for 20 years. The wife makes the most delicious red sangria. She makes the house white sangria as well but we did not taste that one. Don't go expecting to be able to order any quality wine. The list is paltry....super inexpensive, but there really aren't any good options. Go with the Sangria and you'll be pleased. We shared the mussels marina and crabmeat stuffed mushrooms which were both very good. The menu is a bit odd in that it has several Cuban specialties smattered with some mundane Italian dishes. But make no mistake, this is a Cuban place and best to stick with the ethnic food here. They make an unbelievable snapper entree. I had the Cuban roasted half chicken with veggies, black beans and plantains. The flavors were sublime and the half chicken enormous. The plantains were to die for. My husband had the green shrimp which was also quite good. They are known for the homemade rice pudding made by the wife/owner. She makes all the desserts in house. But best to call ahead if you're hankering for the Arborio dessert because she doesn't make it unless she knows it will sell out....always made fresh. She provided a gratis Cuban style flan in a martini glass.. wow! This is not your average Spanish custard. The consistency and flavors are quite different and could be the best dessert of its kind I've ever had. Service is very personal. The digs are simple and the ambience plain. Went last night for an unexpected great evening for my sisters birthday. From the outside I truly didn't expect much. Then I slowly walked in and was totally surprised! The restaurant was dated more like a av1990 clean dining room. there was only 2 attendants- a bartender/ hostess:/waitress- he was all around waiter / busboy. Both were very busy and pleasant. As the evening went by the restaurant filled up! The menu is extensive and the prices mere very reasonable. There is a bar there from beer and wine and sangria. I had the white and it was very good. I ate the creole seafood dish which I had so much I took half home, my sister had the seafood paella which she really enjoyed. Truly I can't wait to bring my son and husband for a great dinner! Last night our "club" 10 people had dinner at ENIGMA, 3 loved their food 4 said OK, 1 was meh, and 2, me included thought it was the WORST meal that we could remember. This was the VEAL CHOP ROMANA....when the dish was presented it looked like a brown pile of "stuff" (being kind) It was INEDIBLE tough and had no real taste..I ate ONE FORKFUL, other ate a small portion .. the pasta side dish was also TERRIBLE (how do you screw up PASTA?) From out of town and met up with a friend. Love this place. Had the salmon and it was fantastic. Perfectly cooked and so full of flavor. Wine list is also great and service is top notch. If you have not been there yet -go! I would recommend a reservation if you know the area you want to sit and care if you have to sit elsewhere. When I first arrived I was not anticipating such delicious food and accommodating staff. It's a VERY casual looking restaurant on Federal Highway. They have ample outdoor seating . Prices are reasonable and some things not to miss are the homemade sangria, golden plantain, lobster bisque and flan for dessert. Every meal is served with a basic salad which is a nice touch. On our last visit we were having dinner outdoors and suddenly it started to drizzle. Then it became a huge rain storm. Our waiter brought out umbrellas and quickly moved us indoors and brought us our meals, perfectly served. They could not have been nicer . I have eaten at this restaurant on a Saturday night twice. Each time I arrived, I was told to eat outside. I did not want eat outside due to the very hot weather and humidity. I was told they were going to have 120 people there. When I walked in at 6:15 p.m. there were 10 people in the restaurant. When I left there were 20 people inside the restaurant! They sat us at a very small table for two the minute you walked through the doorway. I sat at the same table the previous time. I give two stars for the food. The salad was good but the portion was small. The fish was very good and an ample portion. The linguini portion was also small but tasted very good. I did not find a tomato based sauce and capers particularly Cuban! The food is good but the lady that greeted us was rude and was not honest. I've driven past it for a few years and it never appeared on my radar until recently when I saw all the outdoor tables almost in the parking lot and a stones throw from Federal Hwy. How can this be good? It is. And as always, the "older set" found this reasonably priced jewel before me. Our group went fully for the Cuban/Latin items, but there is an extensive Italian menu as well. The lechon was the clear winner (and deserves 5 stars itself). Juicy and deliciously spiced pork with rice, beans and sweet plantains. The marinated skirt steak and seafood stew (like a wetter paella) were also excellent. Steak cooked to requested temps. Yesterday there were many empty tables and she still made us wait. Rather than seat us she said "we were blocking the aisle and would need to go outside". On a Saturday evening his restaurant was packed. The most crowded that I have seen any resturant in awhile. I am honestly not sure why, maybe because its inexpensive. The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly. The food was edible but nothing to go back a second time for. The coconut shrimp were pretty bad. I think Costco's frozen has more flavor. The skirt steak was completely flavorless , not an ounce of seasoning . The paella was also under seasoned with clams that did not open a few shrimp 2 muscles and a half of a tiny tiny lobster tail. Two of us enjoyed a cup of the conch soup while another tried a bowl of the lobster bisque & said it was good. For entrees I really liked the pork chops & another person enjoyed the surf&turf. I was dying for some good Cuban food, I haven't had much luck. We had seen this restaurant while we were driving by. It looked cozy and inviting. The place was packed - so I thought to myself, this must be a good place. So I didn't mind waiting - waiting just to be approached by a staff member, I actually had to go look for one. We had to wait to be seated and they were only able to sit us in a tiny table in the corner - to the side where not too much attention/service was offered. We ordered a pitcher of white sangria and some croquetas to start. Can't say I liked either one. My husband ordered the clam chowder which he says wasn't bad. I wasn't impressed with the menu or my first taste of the croquetas so I stuck to something I thought couldn't be messed up - coconut shrimp. Now I know that's not very Cuban but after tasting the seasoning in the croquetas I just wasn't convinced I would find good authentic Cuban food. Went tonight with friends. No booze (surprise) but ok, we can deal with that. Server suggested sangria, awful. Apps were so greasy the oil ran off the plate. Entrees were mostly inedible. Steak could not be chewed, snapper was tasteless. I had the best dish, the roasted pork, which was only marginally better. Everyone shared it as it was the only thing decent. Got a check and ran out. My wife and I took her mom here for her birthday at her request because her friend had recommended it to her. So we went with slightly high expectations. I like to begin a review with the positives. The prices were reasonable and the food was okay. Otherwise my rating would have been just 2 stars because I'm sorry to say the negatives are going to be longer. I think the "Enigma" moniker suits this restaurant because it is puzzling. The sign outside bills itself as a Cuban restaurant but the menu is so diverse it suggests a cuisine identity crisis. For example it has Bahamian conch chowder and fritters on the appetizer menu, and Italian style veal chop on the main. As much as I love Cuban I was intrigued so I ordered each of the above. All were just ok as I said but I didn't understand why they were on a Cuban menu. Probably our biggest complaint on which we all agreed but annoyed my mother in law so much that she complained-to the owner, was that we really felt rushed through our dinners. The courses came out rapid fire and there was just a sense that they wanted to turnover the table. My final issue was that the men's room has been neglected. IMO You can get a good sense of management pride and overall cleanliness by a well maintained restroom. Take a look at the photos and judge for yourselves.
