Getting solar with this company was one of the worst decisions of my life. Not that they are a company anymore. But I just want to add my story. After being transferred to 4 or 5 different point people and a YEAR after I paid my first $7500 installment and they had sat on that money interest free for one year, I pushed VERY VERY hard to get them to start installing the solar. By that point they had forgotten that I had paid for the system and was not renting it.... I'm convinced that if I hadn't pushed extraordinarily hard, that I would have never got my solar. They also lost all the preliminary work they had done and had pics from someone else's house thinking it was mine. The roofers they picked included one person who was literally a child. They did such a terrible job that I got $11k of damages in the first precipitation. TWO leak points. One on the chimney and one on the swamp cooler. I lost a whole month of work and Brett won't give me the time of day. Now i'm trying to get my money back. While the roofers were sub-contractors, Enlighten Solar workers inspected their work and still chose to put the panels up. They looked past all the terrible work, including two spots where they just tacked tiles to rotted wood underneath. Rows of shingles went off in weird angles and they tried to skimp on materials by not overlapping the shingles properly. There was no flashing at all around the chimney. But the Enlighten ppl did their work. They cut air intake lines below what code allows to fit panels without asking me. Then the first precipitation, there is a river running in my walls. Feb 2025, the all the panels come down, all the roof redone, and i had interior crews working on my place and spreading particles of rat droppings literally everywhere. It is August i'm fighting not to be ghosted and still get my money back ($14k). I am SO tired of dealing with this company. This was supposed to be done in 2023. I would not be shocked if i'm still dealing with this in 2026. I know there were some really sad circumstances involving the company. But I think there were also critical issues of mis-management that are just not okay in any circumstance. I observed just unreal levels of lack of coordination. It was a true shit show from start to finish. One thing is I was told that my situation was the first time they deal with anything like this (Brett Jarman said)... Turns out, i've met some other people now who had the same bad experience and outcome as me. I see the similarities. The fact that they take more money for deposit than legally allowed. They take forever and sit on your money. They do sub-par work and ask for payment promptly upon completion of work. When things go wrong, they ghost you and try to create ways to delay addressing the issue which they NEVER intend to actually solve. Please refer to Stacey's review ($200k of damages) and other stories, seems like my situation was NOT unique. This makes me call into question ALL of the "truths" that I had in my head. I wonder how many of the excuses were straight up lies. I really think that this group of individuals ride the line between legit business and a scam. There seems to be enough people who have gotten screwed here. Some of us are starting to collaborate. Feel free to join the party. I recently had my panels and batteries installed and had the utility box upgraded and now have problems with the electrical and the burned my circuit board on my furnace.my stove top is popping the breaker and ceiling fan has no power and ac is not working.as to all the promises they told me that they'd pay my Edison settlement bill and that I had no payment for 16 months was not true,I made a bad decision going with this company read more

Called and emailed these guys for two years now and can't get a hold of them. They have not came to fix some panel that are not working properly and one that is completely disconnected or broken. I keep putting off getting a lawyer and contacting the state license board but will be moving on this soon. I paid big money for 55 panels!!! read more

Received a referral for Enlightened. I received 3 quotes from different companies and chose to go with Enlightened. Brett was great and accommodating to our decisions. Here is my overall reason why I gave them 5 stars: - The planning and installation: This was great. Smooth as can be especially since our main panel had to be upgraded to a 200A panel. Our house was built in 67 so retrofitting and upgrading is ALWAYS a chore. Q-panels and Enphase micro-inverters were our choice as I didn't want to run a string panel design...which was exactly what they designed. Could've gone with the newer micro-inverters to have a micro-grid but the cost difference was not worth it for us. - The worst part about this project was the inspection delays and requirements (2 Ground rods had to be installed) which delayed the process. It is what it is. - PTO (permission to operate) from SCE took a bit but once we were up and running I can only say that I have been completely satisfied with the project. Totally glad we installed our project in 2022 before CPUC decided to change the NEM (Net Energy Metering) rules starting 4/01 2023...... Overall, I think what differentiates solar companies from each other is their ability to communicate and provide clear and timely updates as to the status. The lengthy conduit run was painted the same color as the stucco. This was done without me asking yet contemplating how I'd get that done and wondering if I should have considered it in the contract stage. We'll done! What an absolute mess - and joke. Do not hire this company unless you want drama and broken promises. They installed my solar without a monitoring wire. They missed their window to run the wire during construction too but - because they were ' slammed' . Then they came out to fix the issue after 10 months of missed and broken promises (remember I had already paid them! so why would they show back up?) I was told it would look like it never happened and someone would be onsite to manage. After they were "done" left without walking the job. They left paint, caulking and stucco all over my yard. No drop clothes to protect landscaping so it go paint on it too. Unbelievable. And they won't come back to fix their mess. Again, run ! read more

Absolutely unacceptable! My husband did a ton of research before choosing a reputable company and went with enough solar, because they were a small family owned business local to us. The install took a week which was not the issue, but we are now going onto week four after installation and our second failed inspection. Correspondence has been miserable, they send people by to fix things and nothing gets fixed. I have taken countless days off of work to be here for them, kept my kids and dogs inside during the heat of summer and they still can't manage to complete the project. They had turned off my existing solar for over two weeks which cost me an unavoidable unnecessarily high electrical bill that could have easily been avoided. I wish I had not went with this company, so far we have spent a lot of money and had nothing but headaches. read more

I'm compelled to write this Yelp review, if only to warns others to stay away from Enlightened Solar. There are too many issues to name. But I'll first start off by saying that we were owed and promised reimbursement of over $2000 after overpaying on the loan. Despite numerous calls, emails and texts to Bret, all of which were very clearly documented, we never received reimbursement. Secondly, due to having construction done, we have had other solar companies remove and put back the solar panels. During this process, I have been told that we may need to pay even more out of pocket to ensure that both systems are communicating (as I had panels installed prior to the current ones being installed). In particular, I was told that Enlightened Solar did not configure the IQ combiner boxes, as they should have per Code since the two models were not compatible. So in essence, not only do they owe me money, and have completely ignored all of our messages, but we will now have to pay out of pocket to fix the mess that they made. read more

They don't deserve any stars . They destroyed our home in Ritz Cove with 200,000 of damages with leaks all over during our first winter . Some many Code violations , they deviated from city approved plans, use non licensed electrician , destroyed 7 roof vents by chopping them to a stump to cover with panels ( which is illegal ) without my convent making them non code compliant of 6-12 inches ,They subbed out and used All Pro Roofing without a B license who left 650 heavy tiles on flat roof compromising our safety and leaving 10,000 pounds of unused materials for me to deal with. Zero supervision of their employees and most of all they did illegal electrical off a sub panel in a closet . They work when license is suspended and caught by city official in the house they post in the Strands , zero accountability and never offered to pay for extensive repairs. We had to tear out entire solar system and redo entire roof fixing extensive damages and put back with less panels as they sold me more panels than I had room for. They destroyed our home that we have had water damage inside still living on ram board for 8 months now! Beware and check reviews with BBB . Brett only comes when he wants a check and never goes on roof to check on crew . Ever! Josh the CEO was non existent throughout entire job. My husband and I looked at three solar panel companies. They were all quite reasonable but we really appreciated Brett's responsiveness and honesty. He never pressured us and was always there to answer follow up questions. Once the rest of the team took over we were equally impressed. The installation was quick and painless. They actually over delivered. I have called to ask a few questions since install and they continue to be incredibly responsive and always happy to help. On top of it all they were the best price. First, Bret was fantastic!! He answered all my questions (and there were a lot); once we finalized the design, I remember thinking, "I hope the rest of the project goes like this." The entire process was: Initial Design, Site Inspection, Permitting, Installation, City Inspection, and finally, getting permission to operate "PTO" with SCE. [ Initial Design ] Bret was very accommodating and prompt in making changes during the process. As I stated, I had a lot of questions, and Bret was highly knowledgeable in helping me future-proof the system. If I could give more than 5-Stars, I would. [ Site Inspection ] One of the Enlightened crew came to my house, inspected the electrical panel to ensure it would work with Solar, and then checked the roof. The crew member that came out was very professional; the process took very little time as my panel is only about a year old, and there were no issues on the roof. [ Permitting ] This process is primarily up to the City, so you wait... [ Installation ] Installation took place over two days. Day one was installing the combiner box next to my panel, putting the mounting rails on the roof, and doing part of the wiring. On Day two, the panels arrived, and the crew went to work installing them. At the end of the day, they tested everything and showed me the system on the APP. After showing me the APP, the crew went around and cleaned up everything and even painted the conduit to match the house! The crew lead was Beto; he was great! [ City Inspection ] Carlos from Enlightened came out, looked over the entire system, and got it ready to be turned on. After that, he reviewed the equipment and APP with me again; the rest was waiting for the inspector. But we passed inspection, and everything was great! Carlos was also fantastic! It's incredible how many great people they have on their team. [ PTO ] This is the worst part of the entire process... Everything is 100% ready to go; you get the email from SCE that the application process has started... And then you sit and hit "refresh" on your email repeatedly, waiting for the next email from SCE that you are good to turn the system on... In my case, it took two business days. (Enlightened gets 5-Stars in every category) I am thrilled with the finished product, and the system is working great! I would recommend Enlightened Solar to anyone considering getting Solar. read more

We have an existing 7Kw solar array on our roof, and are about halfway through a 20-year lease with SunPower. When I contacted SunPower about adding a battery to our system, they told me I would need to "buy out" the remainder of the lease for about $5K in addition to the $16K I paid them initially. What a ripoff!!! They may make good solar panels, but their business model is ineffective, punitive, and unreasonable. So I decided to shop for a batter on my own. I had the good fortune to contact Enlightened Solar through Yelp. Their response was prompt, courteous, and professional. They explained the advantages and disadvantages of adding a battery. It was wonderful to talk with a company that gave me the straight scoop on batteries. Unlike some companies who may have tried to sell me a battery even if it was not in our best interests, they told me it was not a great move at this time, and why. Because of what I heard, we will not move forward with a battery backup at this time. Batteries are a great idea, but better for them to be installed with the solar system, not later as an add-on. So this is a 5-star review of a company that we do not need at the time, but rather for their candor and honesty. They saved us a lot of time and money. We had them install solar our home. They reassured us everything would work and no short cuts were made. They were paid in full. We found out from solar consultant that it was NOT installed properly. So, after 10 months and many appointments not showing up and not responding for weeks and months they finally showed up this week to leave a MESS at our home. Paint, caulk and Stucco. Their response was we did the best we could and "sorry we didn't meet your expectations". Our agreement was to make our home like it NEVER happened. What a joke. Don't waste your time. read more

From the estimate phase to the final inspection by SCE, the folks at Enlightened Solar were terrific. They thoroughly explained each step and stuck to their word. We had clear lines of communication the whole time. We have 3 rescue dogs that aren't great with outside people, so we needed to carefully orchestrate each time the workers showed up. Everyone was understanding and respectful of our special circumstances, even though it meant they didn't have free access to the work site at all times. We give Enlighten Solar our highest recommendation. read more

I absolutely LOVE Bret. If he isn't the real MVP and SUPERSTAR at Enlightened.. than this a truly magical company. He was upfront, honest, very knowledgeable on the product and; what will be needed for our project and he broke down step by step what actions what needed to be taken so we could get to power we needed to get off the grid. Overall a wonderful person. The biggest thing I love about this company they care about quality not quantity. They takes days not hours to make sure your system is perfection. I haven't closed the deal ..but am sold right now. If we go with them I'm getting more updates and I'll be telling everyone to use them with a sign outside of my home with 'proudly Enlightened Powered'. The thing I love most was how Bret was open to meet face to face and explain to him that I would need a plug in for the power I needed to support the panels I needed. I decided to add to our existing solar system that was installed back in 2012 because our power bills kept on going up. I contacted 5 different solar companies through Yelp and chose Enlightened. Our experience was 5 star all the way, I would give them 10 stars if I could. They were very consultative during the quoting process, really making sure I understood the options and what was right for our roof. We have clay tile which makes things a little less straight forward. They did the extra work of having the clay tiles removed and picture framed around the solar panels while keeping the cost better than all the competitors. The permitting was quick and easy and our county inspection passed on the first try. They were quick to answer any questions along the way and made sure I was fully satisfied before final payment. I'm a licensed electrician that works on custom homes throughout Orange County and knew what I was looking for when installing solar at my own home. I've worked on custom homes where Enlightened Solar has done the solar and was impressed every time by their knowledge and the cleanliness of the installation. When it came to install ours we did our due diligence and got quotes from 2 other companies. We found that Enlightened had great rates, their description of work was very thorough and their flexibility in design was very impressive. We studied Solar for quite awhile. When we decided to move forward we got bids from six of the best known companies. Only Enlightened Solar truly listened to our request. They provided the best producing system, and the best looking system ... they thought outside the box. The sales staff started it out by really looking at our request. The price was not the lowest bid. Still it was far less than the highest bids. The LOWEST bid is most often not the BEST bid. The support staff kept us up to date with information regarding the systems approval process. The installation crew was friendly, neat, and professional. These guys are amazing. First Brett worked with me to navigate the what, when, how and how to best pay for the proper solar system. I worked with 5 different solar vendors, and Brett was the best in these categories and with cost very close to the least expensive at the same time. Which is amazing! Then the crew who came to install knew what they were doing, did a very fast and complete install that actually looks great. I am retired engineer and very picky, so that is a major compliment. Within a few days we were online selling electricity back to the utility company.
