When I first moved to Portland from LA I went as long as I could with out getting a hair cut and color. I had a trusty stylist in LA who never let me down and I was beyond terrified to have a stylist in a smaller city ruin my locks. I had a friend who suggested I try Entrust to get my hair cut and colored. They also had a rad deal going at the time that included a special offer on highlites. Lauren has been my stylist for almost two years now. I have never had a bad color or cut here. They listen to what you want and also cut to your hair texture and face shape. Several years ago I used to go to an old-time barber, but then he retired. I then bounced around from various mega quick-cut places that give you a "Seven Dollar Haircut" for a few years. My hair showed the lack of care and consistency that an impersonal environment and low-cost, high-volume gets you. So, I went looking for something better. And better is what I found at Entrust Hair. There are a ton of salons in town, but it's kind of a crap shoot finding someone you can trust. As a guy, salons can have the feel of walking into the ladies room; a lot feel like they're only for women. That is NOT the case at Entrust. Sean, the owner, is a man's man through and through with an affinity for tattoos and metal music from the 80s, and the salon feels gender neutral. I liked that. Lauren actually does my hair, and has been for what seems like forever now. It's great having someone you can talk to, trust and does a great scalp massage! I get consistency with my hair cuts and a lot more personal service that I ever got at the "Seven Dollar Haircut" places. The location of the salon is convenient for me too, and appointment times are flexible, but I'd suggest you rebook after each appointment to make sure you can get in when you want. I've recommended Entrust to several of my friends, and a half dozen or so now are loyal clients. If you are unhappy with who's hacking at your hair currently, give Entrust a try! I had a hair emergency!! My hair was past my butt, very thick and wavy. I had a huge knot in the back causing headaches and could not get it out. For four days i had tried with no success I called random places, in tears looking for someone to cut my hair off. Ben took me in that evening and cut it off. Ben said he could work the knot out but I was in so much pain. I now have very short hair, its a cute little style but I it. Ben was very understanding and helpful in a time of need. After months of avoiding looking for a new local, stylist, I came to Entrust (after hours spent reading reviews on Yelp) with hair that had not been tended to in NINE months and needed something entirely new. I LOVE the results - Katie is a color MAGICIAN and Anthony is a cut master. Together, they created a modern look for me which blew me away. And beyond just achieving great results, I really appreciated that (1) Katie listened to what I wanted (I came with photos of styles and colors I liked from Katie's Instagram plus photos of me with my favorite haircut ever; (2) they took the time to talk with me beforehand about possible solutions, taking into account that, realistically, I will not spend a lot of time on my hair every day, I needed a cut and color to be versatile enough that it will look great when styled up or down, and the look also needed to be current to fit in with my design industry job; (3) Katie was courageous enough to slightly change course in the middle of the appointment when she was inspired by a better idea than the color process we decided on at the beginning of the appointment; and (4) Katie was honest about her skills and strengths and put my needs above all else (she said she could give me the layered look that I wanted, but felt that Anthony would actually be better-suited to give me the crazy layers that I really longed for because of his layering skills). When you first walk in, it's a breath of fresh air. Modern clothing, nice looking staff and a clean salon. Sean has been cutting my hair, and each and every time he does something a little different (because I trust him) and it turns out AMAZING. He can shampoo like no one else, and the time he takes to style your hair is nothing. He's always telling me about the greatest products to use without making me feel like I HAVE to buy them. Was recently in for cut and color and very pleased! Sean looked at my previous cut which wasn't bad and he reassured me that he wasn't going to do anything drastic but modernize it a bit. Sean did an excellent job making my long dark brown hair blonde. I didn't lose any length to damage. My hair is soft and healthy still! He and his wife are such a cute team to be around! The atmosphere was welcoming and they truly cared about my comfort which was very important, since I was there for five hours! His wife even offered to grab me food from across the street! I couldn't have had a better experience. With a procedure that can be a little scary because of the risks of damage to my mid back length hair, the result was exactly what I wanted and I am glad I chose to trust Sean with my hair!
