I have tried over a dozen different Thai places in the 5 Burroughs and Long Island and let me tell you-- this was hands-down the BEST Thai food I have ever had since I have lived in here New York. From the savory short ribs, calamari and spring rolls (honorable mention: dumplings) as an appetizer to the entrees ranging from traditional Thai meals like green curry and Kee Mao, everything was amazing!!!!!!! Can't wait to come back and indulge in their food. You will be sure to leave with a healthy food baby. The customer service was amazing. We didn't even make a reservation on a Saturday night and was seated in 10 minutes. The owners are so welcoming and the ambiance of the restaurant itself was great! The food had a lot of flavor and everything was priced well. The desserts are a must! Really good! One of the best Thai restaurants I've ever been to. This is a lovely Thai restaurant located in Queens. The food here has remained consistent over the years. No matter what I order, it is always delicious. I highly recommend the crispy fish, which is amazing, the flavoring is just outstanding. The atmosphere is romantic and tasteful. Being a resident of Bayside, Bell boulevard is always the spot to be so the fact that I hadn't tried Erawan before was baffling. My boyfriend and I decided to go on a date night here this weekend and I was excited since I really don't have Thai food all that often. We walked in and I immediately felt remorse for not making a reservation as I saw many tables with "reserved" signs on them. The girl was very friendly and asked if we had a reservation, I hesitantly said no expecting there to be a wait but thankfully, she pointed to two tables in the center of the restaurant with wicker dividers and told us we could sit at either. We chose a table and although we found it slightly uncomfortable that we were technically sitting at the same table as another couple with a see-through screen between us, it actually did help and we weren't phased by it after a little while. I ordered their seasonal wine from Spain (a red that was quite yummy) the bf got an imported beer which he enjoyed. Now on to the fun part--the food! For appetizers we ordered the Satay (chicken on a skewer with peanut sauce) which was delicious and the Thai spring rolls. I tried to savor every bite! The sweet sauce really added an amazing taste that just exploded with flavor. For the entree I got beef with pineapple, peppers, onions and cucumbers which was so savory and the pineapple added great taste. We also got a papya salad with chili pepper. Also very tasty. I wish we had some of the fried ice cream everyone talks about--but we'll just have to go back! My only complaints--the restaurant is very narrow with lots of tables crammed in so as people walked by we kept having to squish ourselves to the side--some re-arranging should really be done. Erawan is gorgeous inside, but it feels like they are trying too hard instead of concentrating on what-s important, which is the taste. The food is cooked well enough, but there's no soul, no fire, to make it stand out. What does stand out is the prices- it's crazy expensive for being soulless. I guess someone needs to pay for all of the dark wood sculptures. My brother spit out one of the mussels because it was pretty much raw and had an unpleasant texture, but the flavor was nice. The Pad Thai was shockingly actually pretty tasty, not greasy, and the pineapple fried rice is satisfying, but my dad just shook his head at the fact that they were charging that much for fried rice with canned pineapple. My papaya salad was not spicy, nor did she even ask if I wanted it spicy. I ALWAYS want it spicy. The papaya was also too thick. Chicken massaman curry was nice and coconutty and rich, with plenty of potatoes (ok, you know thats your favorite part too. The meat is just a bonus). This would be a nice place to go to take a date, but if you're dating someone with a more adventurous palate, I would try one of the better Thai places. 2.5 stars, but I will give them three stars because on the night we went, the waitress gave us great service and was very attentive. read more

Went here last week and I was really disappointed. I had the pineapple fried rice and a crispy whole fish. The fried rice was about what I can make at home...but I don't own a restaurant. The fish used to come with a nice mashed sweet potato side but now all you get is fish. The fish was way over fried and not meaty at all. Felt like all I was eating was fried bones. I grew up in Bayside and went to Erawan from the time it opened up until I moved out of my parents house. Back then it was delicious and reasonably priced. However, over the years the quality has gone down while the prices have gone up dramatically. On a visit last night we found that the quality was terrible and most dishes in the 20+ dollar price range. In particular the chicken in all the dishes we ordered was improperly butchered and very rubbery. It was reminiscent of defrosted chicken. Fresh chicken simply does not have this texture With Thai food being popular these days there's no reason to ever pay these exorbitant prices when you can travel a bit to a place like Sripraphai or even Bonne Saison down the block for a far more satisfying meal read more

FOUND A FLY IN MY DRINK. So normally I don't complain about stuff, and I understand in the course of eating out there will be mistakes made, and some places will have the occasional bugs, etc. shit happens, you live with it. This time... I feel it is necessary to point out how messed up this place is, so the rest of u don't go here. my complaint isn't about the fly in my thai iced tea.... its the way it was handled. my friends and I have been going here for years, and we regularly drop a decent amount of money... we r there enough that the bartender recognizes us. The server here speaks broken English, so maybe that's why the order was screwed up? but eitherway my friend ordered a dish with chicken... instead she got Tofu... which she HATES. we politely asked that that be fixed..... their idea of fixing it is bring it back to the kitchen, add chicken, and bring it back out.... WITH THE TOFU STILL ON IT. fine, my friend lived with that cause we r reasonable people. I ordered the thai iced tea.... it has a fly floating on it. Lovely. I politely told the waiter... who proceeded to laugh about it, and asked me if I wanted another.... yeah buddy, I want another thai iced tea when the first one came out with a fly in it. right. I had to ask to have that removed from the bill. now just when we thought things couldn't get any worse, the waitress who MASSACRED our order with the tofu and not chicken gave us our check with an extra charge for chicken.. WTF!?!? they messed the order up, but we have to pay for it? no way..... we proceeded to tell them to fix it, they spent 30+ minutes figuring this crap out, and the manager who is CLEARLY cheap, finally decided to take 5 bucks off for the chicken extra which was their mistake. Someone finally came out and told us some bullshit excuse why there was an extra charge for the chicken, when it was their mistake, and they proceeded to make it seem like they did us a favor taking it off the bill. Unreal. this experience was beyond bad. the manager didn't even have the decency to come and apologize for the fly... let alone the food they screwed up. IF you guys go here, expect to be treated like crap. My friends and I are never going back again.... its the principle of things, u don't burn ur regular customers over 5 bucks. Come for the thai food, stay for the fried ice cream.. Gonna start my review with that because, hell, its awesome. It is served ala - on a plate, there is a ball of dough...along with the plate with the ball of dough (surrounded by red jam), the waiter has a gravy bowl. As the waiter approaches, you can see there are flames atop the gravy bowl - what the whattttt. The waiter places the plate on your table and pours the gravy bowl of fire onto the plate - yea, that happens. As the fire dies down, you can start to devour the ball of dough. Inside, surpriseeeeee, is vanilla ice cream. MAKE SURE TO LET THE FIRE DIE BY ITSELF. I blew out the fire once, and the doughball was still soaked in what tasted like 151 Barcadi Rum. Needed a chaser with that ice cream - oh wait, I had one, the ice cream that was on the inside. Anyhoo - the curries here are great, each has its own distinct tastiness. Just don't ask me to distinguish between each, I never could. Read the descriptions for the curry - they list what is in the curry so you can get a sense of the flavor you get. The BBQ chicken - so good. The duck - even better. definitely try one of those along with a curry. Beautiful 1-2 punch. Will knock you out for sure. BUT save room for the fried ice cream. Or you can't be my friend. Sidenote, if you like liquor - the sangria here is good and strong - two of my favorite characteristics of a drink. Happy eating, suckers. read more

service was good when we walked in than we ordered our appetizer which was Tom Yum shrimp soup. it came to the table and it was sweet. I've had it several times before at different restaurants and it was never like this I asked for more lemongrass in mine. My best friend asked to have it switched out for a different appetizer seeing that it was not good at all and the manager came over to the table, asked if we've had it before because the chef hasn't changed. she stated that she can't take it off of the bill. Probably the worst Thai we have had in ny. In queens - sripapai is so fresh and amazing. In brooklyn - joya and national are cheap and way better than here. This place is an upscale fine dining place - for a specific crowd. Food is less than subpar. Pad kee Mao drenched in oil. This place is magnificent, the food is exquisite and every dish I've had has been tasty and made with quality ingredients from the pad thai, to the pineapple fried rice, to the dumpling soup, the steak and the fried fish. The owner of the restaurant is constantly around the various times my family and I have gone to this restaurant and he's careful with providing the costumers great-tasting dishes and a good experience. This place is hidden amongst other businesses on the busy Bell Boulevard. Right after you walk in, there are bags which you can take to put your wet umbrella in. Yes, the bags are big enough for large ones. It was raining, and I had no idea those were there until the waitress pointed it out to me. Onto the food. The lunch specials are very reasonable, about 8 bucks, and you get the option of soup or salad. I forgot the name but I ordered the yellow curry with potato; it comes with vegetable fried rice, with the option of soup. The soup was really delicious and light. It was a blend of parsley, green onions and other flavors which I have no idea. I did also taste a hint of garlic. Delicious. The yellow curry wasn't overly thick, nor was it too thin. It was just right and it wasn't too rich either. The vegetable fried rice it came with was tasty too. It's a nice change from getting regular rice along with curry dishes in Thai restaurants. The lunch was just enough to fill me up, and I will definitely come back here again! The dinner prices are twice the price of the lunch specials, so I'd recommend the lunch if you want delicious food for a good price. read more

FOOD [A] Gai Bai Tong (marinated chicken breast wrapped in banana leaf) The leaf only served to lock in the moisture and for presentation. You might need help opening your appetizer, so unless youve a black belt in reverse-origami, avoid looking like a dummy trying to get your meat out (not the time nor website for the accidental innuendo.) The chicken was bland. We were dining uncharacteristically light so we had two noodles. [E] Pad Kee Mao, which I'd give an 8.5/10 for being well-balanced. [E] Curry Noodle, which is very mild, but flavorful, 6.5/10 The dining experience was soured by a hasty wait staff. A little overpriced, but youll be paying for scene? Erawan holds a special place in my heart because this is the venue my husband and I decided to hold our intimate wedding dinner. So this review may be biased. :) Even to this day (married for almost 5 years and moving away and back to NY), Erawan's quality of food has not changed. It's not one of those places that you cross your fingers hoping your food tastes just as good as the last time you had it... because it always is! A Thai restaurant which my son favors. I find the place very cozy, clean & tastefully decorated with a full bar, pleasant staff. As soon as we got seated our server handed us the menus.. For appetizers we had the Koong Yang, which was the Barbecued shrimp w/ pickled cabage salad & the JeepPu, Steamed Crab dumplings w/ soy vinagrette dip. Absolutely delicious!!! I had the Pla Pao, Grilled Whole Fish wrapped in banana leaves w/ Thai herbs! .Very tasty, Ron had the Ola Shu-Shee, Crispy whole Fish cooked w/ coconut milk & red curry..This was awesome!!! Jay had the Petd Shu Shee,w/ red curry & coconut milk..equally delicious. This is one of my favorite places in the Bayside/Bay Terrace area. Its alittle bit hard to be objective though b/c I think there are so many good Asian restaurants in Queens, but Erawan is definitely up there! I usually go there for lunch and have been seated right away, maybe a 5 minute wait at the most. For dinner however, the place can get pretty crowded, but I always just call ahead and make reservations to cut down the wait time just alittle bit. The food is tasty and they do not skimp on the spices! No frills here, just good authentic thai food. The pineapple fried rice, pad see ew, and pad kee mao are all safe bets if you want something that'll satisfy your thai hunger but don't want to get too risky. Also on the last saturday night that I went, there was a live band playing there as well. A bit noisy for my liking, but still entertaining. All in all, Erawan makes me :) read more

The place was busy but we were seated immediately because our friends made a reservation few hours earlier. Great ambience, definitely a good place to bring your date or just to catch up with friends. As for the curry chicken, we forgot which one exactly we got. Overall, the food was good but we had better Thai food elsewhere. The duck was the one we like the most. It was delicious. I'd go back to Erawan in a heartbeat, as they're the first place that I had Thai food, and the food is genuinely delicious. However... In comparison to other Thai restaurants I've been to, their menu is kind of small. I like diversity and the idea of plenty of options when you go out to eat somewhere, but Erawan's menu, last time I went there, wasn't that big. However, it's a small, intimate place, so I can see why the menu is small. It's also, however, overpriced. BKNY isn't far from here, and they have just as good Thai food for a lesser price. I came to this place on the recommendation of a friend's parents who touted it as "the best Thai food in New York City" (and yes you snooty Manhattanites, this part of town is still considered the city) and I was very impressed. I don't know the best Thai food from the second best, but it was delicious. I had the exact opposite experience than fellow yelper Andrew R. I brought my grandparents, whose only complaint was that it was a tad too dark for them to read the menu with their failing eyes. Aside from that, we all had amazing meals. I ordered the beef with noodles (delicious!). We split an order of calamari for our appetizer (tasty but very small portion) and had their recommendation for dessert - some sort of chocolate cake with a hot liquidy inside that was among the best desserts I have ever eaten. And, our waitress was very gracious. I intend on returning sometime soon. read more

I had lunch here the other day and I love me some pad Thai. I've tried all the curries here and all of them were unfortunately too sweet for my liking. I just play it safe and just order pad Thai. They give you a complimentary salad which consists of iceberg lettuce, grape tomatoes, carrot shavings, and bean sprouts. The ginger carrot dressing tasted clean and tangy. My pad Thai w/chicken was sweet and savory. I could have lived without the carrot shavings placed on top for garnish. I like to sprinkle my pad Thai with the red pepper flakes and enjoy the eliciting of endorphins. Forget drugs give me some Thai red chili flakes and I'm happy. My spice high made me want to jump on the wooden elephant sculpture and go for a ride. Erawan satisfied my pad Thai craving, however, I think Yum Yum in Sunnyside has the best pad Thai in Queens and it's cheaper too! read more

I have been coming here for years. I love their lunch menu and dinner menu! You can't go wrong with either. For lunch, you get a soup or salad with your entree. The staff is so friendly. I love the owner and his family. I think I've tried all their appetizers. You can't go wrong with the curry puff, shrimp wasabi and satay. My go to entree is the Thai Fried Rice (it's pork and shrimp but if you don't eat pork, you can sub for chicken or just shrimp). Pad Thai and pad sea eiw are classics. For non alcoholic drinks, Thai iced tea and I love their alcoholic drinks. Watermelon martini or the Bellini are my faves. Great for vegetarians as well. read more

My first Thai experience! If you know me, you know I don't really do exotic foods. Pizza and burgers are pretty much my thing, but women make you do crazy things. Just ask Hitler. He was actually a poet before his girlfriend asked him to toughen up. Anyway, Erawan is a very nice place. It's very small and congested...some people like that about it but not this guy. Only b/c you have to avoid the people coming in and out of the restaurant. It's like playing a real life game of pac man... and I suck at pac man. The food was really good though, I enjoyed everything I ordered. (But as I mentioned it was my first taste of Thailand so I really have nothing to compare it to. ) The Dumpling Soup, was served in a kind of fancy lop sided bowl. Lots of green stuff that I couldn't really eat in there ... I was trying to act like a gentleman.. otherwise I would have just taken that bowl straight to the face. The Hoi Shell dinner was really, really good, little spicy but I think Thai actually means spicy in Thai. For dessert the Thai Iced tea & pumpkin custard was outstanding. Try it. read more

It was a Sunday night and on the quiet side, so we didn't have to wait to be seated. I ordered the pad kee mao which came with ground chicken and shrimp and we had vegetable dumplings as the appetizer. The pad kee mao was very tasty and flavorful. I would highly recommend ordering it! I could have gone without the vegetable dumplings, as they were very bland. I couldn't give this place five stars because I thought they were overpriced. Each of the entrees were around $15 compared to $10 at other Thai places. Not going to lie, I'm still going to shell out the extra money to eat here again. read more
