Service was not good. I'm so sad to write this review but over the years I've desire to come less and less to this store. A lot of the people who work here are not happy people and it's gotten to a point that I don't want certain people making my food or drinks because they are perpetually in a bad mood. Like they really don't want to be there. Or they are on such an automode they are not aware of clients requests because they are either overworked or just don't care and are checking out. Okay okay we all know the memes about this place and yes potato chips cost like 8 dollars a bag. One thing that I do, however, think is a very good deal are their meats--- specifically their Australian wagyu steak cuts. I have tried their filets, NY, and rib eyes and they are really tender, flavorful and actually not a bad deal for the quality. They are all individually vacuum packaged and you can pick out which ones you want (obviously the one with the most balanced marbling). Definitely recommend giving it a try!! read more

We stopped by for a couple smoothies for our drive back to San Francisco. We're huge fans of the Hailey Bieber smoothie and had to have it twice in our 3 days in LA. I also picked up a cute insulated grocery tote and a jar of their pure raw honey. Mr. Marty rang us up and he was the sweetest! Yes, the prices are high at Erewhon and they're infamous for it, but they have some really high quality things. If I lived in LA I would probably get the annual membership for the perks. According to social media and friends... Healthy food shouldn't taste as good as they say but Erewhon defies ALL ODDS!! And I've been addicted to Erewhon ever since (hey at least it's a healthier kind of addiction!) I see a lot of reviews complaining about prices, and yes this is obviously a more upscaled grocery store so I am not sure why you're comparing Erewhon to like Walmart or something. AND you are buying HIGH QUALITY food that's guaranteed organic (non-gmo) and fresh for the most part, with produce that's UNMATCHED, in comparison to other grocers and vendors. If you're on a budget, obviously, this isn't the place to splurge on often. Treat yourself like once/twice a month, if you will. Another set of complaints I've observed is that their valet staff is racist. First of all, I'm a "minority", claimed by the general people, and I still received the same fair service that I'd expect no matter what the color of my skin is. Secondly, thank you to the staff for an awesome valet experience from start to finish. They even hooked us up with free products at the end of our trip. I wished I had cash to tip them!!! Ugh. Next time, I am definitely bringing cash just to tip the workers. Some of my go-to food from Erewhon is their chicken combo plate with some kind of greens (I usually get the mighty greens and the brown rice ball as my sides!! So good!). My fav chicken has to be their coconut chicken tendies... omg amazing. Also if not chicken, their salmon is always perfect! And for their juice selection, my two favs have GOT to be the Heavenly Greens and the Lovely Day :-) I love having the food here and try to replicate them at home based on my tastebuds! For the tonic bar, I love their matcha latte and I love to try out their specialty drinks. A month ago I went for the Ellie drink and it was amazing. (iykyk!) Collect the bottles and return them by the cashier for $ back. (1.50 per glass bottle, $2 for Mason jars). I don't eat meat but most of the meals here don't contain it. It's a great alternative to eating out everyday if you are too busy to cook. I prefer to cook (and they have speciality items for that!) but there are periods of time when I'm too busy to get around to cooking/cleaning. The prices are indeed high, but that is to be expected at a specialty grocery store. It's still comparable to ordering at a takeout cafe/restaurant, only the ingredient quality is a lot higher here. For example, the chocolate mousse is made of avocado and is dairy-free but you'd never know. Plant-based will always be healthier. This place is a must if you are vegan, vegetarian, or plant-based. MAJOR HEALTH HAZARD I used to LOVE Erewhon and be a regular shopper, but to be honest I will NEVER step foot in there again. My boyfriend and I went in for lunch and grabbed a couple of items from the sushi counter. He got a roll and I got the Daily "Fresh" Sushi Platter, along with some other groceries. After getting home and eating about half of my sushi platter, I notice what I thought was a tiny sliver of a green onion on a piece of my sashimi. I go to move it and notice that's it's an ALIVE SQUIRMING WORM I obviously panic not knowing how much of the food the worm has contaminated. So immediately, I call Erewhon. But of course there's no phone number listed for the Beverly Blvd store on google. So after some searching I call their corporate line and am transferred to an operator. I asked her to connect me to the Beverly Blvd store and that the sushi counter needs to be aware that the Daily "Fresh" Sushi Platters are contaminated with BUGS and need to be pulled from the shelves before people get sick as it's a MAJOR health hazard I was literally shocked when she said like, oh, we can't help you, you need to go to our website and file an inquiry. I'm like girl are you serious?? This needs to be taken care of TODAY or people are going to get sick. So I immediately go to the website and file an inquiry, knowing that it's probably no use for an urgent response. So then I go to Instagram and message the account directly. Huge "surprise", even though the account is ACTIVELY ONLINE reposting stories of people shopping they ignore my messages in concern over this health crisis. A full day later the IG account responds and asks for my information which I gave them. It takes a FULL week to hear back from anyone, when on September 15th, Jason Widener (store president or director or something) finally calls me. At this point when he says he's calling from Erewhon, I couldn't even remember why, but he finally has time to discuss the bugs in their food. He spends the next 8 minutes basically saying that they just opened a new location in Beverly Hills and essentially don't have time or just don't care to deal with anything else. He gives what feels like the most insincere apology for taking so long, really tries to assure me that at Erewhon they "do care for food safety concerns", and then almost in the same breathe TRIES SELL ME THEIR MEMBERSHIP. It's so shocking to experience a health food store BLATANTLY not caring about the health and safety of their customers. From my experience, I feel like they do NOT care about their customers nor do they care about food safety and health concerns. Fresh toppings and different types of protein, including tofu. If you're trying to eat clean this is the spot! So filling and and satisfying. The hot food section gets a little hectic. Oh man, while I am so grateful to have an Erewhon here, with its plethora of (overpriced) healthy options, the experience with parking is enough to make me take my business elsewhere. And that's a real shame. Truly, customer service or basic human decency must be dead. Entered the parking structure today and was told to come in and turn left to park. I did that and parked. After my twenty minute shopping (I came for one specific item) I returned to my car and was asked, a bit rudely "is that your car?" I replied "yes", rather chipperly because I didn't realize anything was wrong. I was then reprimanded for parked in "valet" (there were a whopping maybe two other cars there and plenty of space). I was told very condescendingly that there was a giant sign telling me it was valet. Truly, there were plenty of parking spots and I would not have parked there if not specifically told to. To be frank, I didn't look at the signs once I had been given directions - "pull in, park left". When we explained why we parked there the parking attendant continued to rudely raise his voice and tell us what we had done wrong. A simple "no worries, I understand, but that's not where we meant for you to park so in the future please do XYZ" would have worked. No one was trying to break the rules and miscommunications happen. But, there's no need for aggressions and escalation over something so trite. Get it together. read more

As someone who grew up in Marin County in the heart of hippie "health food" stores and worked in Brad Ogden and Wolfgang Puck kitchens, I can't rave enough about Erewhon. When I was a private chef here in LA in the 1990's I used to frequent the one on Beverly when it was bulk bins and local produce. And to see where they've taken the store is amazing. Yes, I know that they are expensive but for me, a vegan, who is a freak about health and what I eat, Erewhon is a blessing. Their chef or chef team deserves kudos. I just had a Three Green Citrus Salad with avocado and grapefruit that was so fresh and delicious. Their spinach and quinoa patty was beyond my expectations! And their barbecue tofu is something I crave. So thank you Erewhon team!! Would be great if they somehow figured out how to get rid of all the plastic packaging. I feel guilty about it. There must be packaging that doesn't end up in the earth. The fact is that people rarely recycle and when they do, it often doesn't get recycled by a service. I am so glad that somewhere has a keto breakfast burrito where they use a gluten free tortilla! It's so good I get it all the time. The chorizo one slaps. The only thing negative I have to say about Erewhon is on postmates they almost always forget the salsa with the breakfast burrito and if you ask for extra salsa you aren't getting it.
