Omg! I'm now obsessed with the five Flavor Chicken! Little bit sweet and tangy. I was worried the sauce would be too sweet, but kit was absolutely perfect! Pretty good Chinese restaurant in the now valley neighborhood. We stopped by Friday for the lunch specials and got the fried fish and eggplant lunch specials. Pretty generous portions and it came with egg flower soup. Service was fast and restaurant is much nicer than a traditional hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, but also $2-$3 more expensive than typical Chinese food. read more

My wife and I live in San Mateo County and travel to the City for Chinese food. The restaurant we go to is Eric's and it's Hunan & Mandarin cuisine. I have been going to Eric's for close to 30 years and it's still Fabulous. We had ordered honey walnut prawns, beef asparagus, vegetable fried rice, sweet & sour chicken, pot stickers and egg rolls. The food is made with all fresh ingredients and the taste and flavors are simply to savor. I only like to dine in and don't do take out at Asian restaurants. A buddy of mine and I decided to grab take-out recently, and decided on Eric's based on its nearby location and overall good reviews. The phone order went very smoothly and pick-up was just 15 minutes later! The food was ready right on time, no waiting, and the price was definitely reasonable considering the amount of food which was in the containers (enough for lunch the next day!). We both thought the food was very good; mine was chicken and my friend's was vegetarian. Appetizers (egg rolls) and soup (Hot and Sour) were delicious. I'd recommend Eric's for good, efficiently prepared, tasty, Chinese food...and although we took our food home, the actual restaurant space was neat and clean; worth a "dine-in" one of these days, methinks! read more

I've been living near Eric's for years and only just started going here. Turns out, the food is amazing and they have several specialty dishes which are very different from other dishes I've tried. This is your typical casual Chinese neighborhood spot. White linen tables, cheap glasses of wine, and hearty portions for entrees. I tried the vegetarian chow mein, kung pao meatless chicken, and the string beans with bean curd. The vegetarian chow mein was al dente and will not be ordered again. The meatless chicken (made of mushroom I think) was a great protein substitute and delicious too. The string beans with bean curd tasted fresh and exactly what I desired for in the dish with crunchy, seasoned tofu. I've been to this restaurant quite a few times since my last review and these folks are consistently good, the quality of food and service. This update is to praise a kind gesture. I had the eggplant lunch special dish and the serving was abundant so I didn't finish my meal, in fact, I only consumed half of the eggplant plate. I mac'ed on the rice though. At the end of the meal, they asked if I wanted the rest to take home and I did. Later that evening, as I dove into the to-go box, guess what? They had furnished me with rice to go along with my leftover eggplant and that became my full dinner. What a cool surprise. How thoughtful of these folks and I love this place for such a nice act. Been eating here for 20+ years and it's always great. Moved away in 2016 (SoCal) and whenever we come back to the Bay Area, we go to Eric's. Just fantastic. Off the beaten path.. small place. Not touristy. Eric's Spicy Eggplant is the best. Has shrimp, chicken, fresh basil. So good. Sesame beef also great. What a clean, spare place! The food in this little corner of the world is wonderful. Everything is prepared fresh. The eggplant was wonderfully seared and spiced and the shrimp with vegetables crisp and clean. The service is perfunctory. They are efficient and mostly both attentive and invisible. We will be back. I think most of the 5 star reviews that are two sentences long or include the words "awesome" and "amazing" are phony. The only Asian people who go to Eric's are the workers. Not having Asian customers in an Asian restaurant is not necessarily a problem, but it is an indication of what's to come. After being seated by an impatient woman, we ordered the combination plate, General Tsao's chicken and wonton soup. The wonton soup was flavorless, my wife referred to it as dishwater. The General Tsao's chicken was dry and was served without a sauce, so having it with rice was a dry experience. The combination plate included something that was supposed to be made with crab meat, but tasted just like chicken salad. I asked the server if it was chicken salad and she replied that it was kimchi. If the workers feel comfortable being rude to the customers in the dining room, I can only imagine what they do to the food, in the kitchen, when nobody's looking. read more

I was very, very disappointed today with the waitress took my order here at Eric's around 12:10pm Saturday 6/28/25. I've waited to come in, put my order as I'm closer to it, instead of Alice at the Corner of Sanchez and 29th St. I have been coming to Eric's for many many years but stop coming because of the rude and quality and quantity, before. But thought maybe they change attitudes, I was wrong, this waitress a rude witch doesn't belong here. I ordered A la carts kung pao chicken, 2 egg rolls, Rangoon cheese crabs, brown rice. I got home the Kung pao chicken looks as if the chef forgot to put the chicken and not even a large plate it was in the smallest container. It wasn't even worth $43 for all the items. I "HATE" Eric's restaurant. The waitress looked at me as if I DON'T belong there and I was disturbing her eating noodles. She had to put her noodles away to take my order and her looks was not a happy one. It was my friend who is a friend of the owner here, She has been telling me to support her restaurant, Eric's. I will never enter Eric's ever again. I will stay with Alice the sister. As these two are brother's and sister. What's not to love about Eric's?! Great food, fast and friendly service, and reasonable prices. As much as things change it is nice a few places stay the same and that's a blessing when it comes to fresh and tasty Chinese cuisine. Start with the dumplings or spring rolls and then decide among dozens of entree options. We ALWAYS end up with the special eggplant and hoisin string beans. It was a dark and stormy night...I was riding the J train back to my AirBnB on Cesar Chavez. I was hungry, it was raining, and I needed something easy. As I stepped off the train at 27th, Eric's sign beckoned me. As a single diner I was quickly directed to a cozy window seat, supplied with a menu, hot tea, and ice water. So far so good! When I looked up their Yelp page for menu suggestions, I was a little discouraged by the negative reviews, but went for the Spicy Eggplant that was suggested by another reviewer. OMG! It was amazing! Best Chinese food I've had in decades. (I live in North Orange County.) The service was friendly and prompt. I will be returning here on my next visit to Noe Valley. read more

I came in while trying to kill an hour - it was busy but I was sat within 5 minutes & my order taken within the next 5. I ordered the crab rangoons which were pretty good & filling, & the sweet and sour chicken lunch special. The chicken was crispy which I loved but the chicken itself didn't have too much flavor, but there was lots of sweet & sour sauce. The lunch special also came with a cup of the soup of the day, which was some tofu corn soup. It was good but they didn't really tell me what it was when they gave it to me. The sweet & sour chicken came in a large portion & I ended up taking 2/3 of it home as I was pretty full from the 6 crab rangoons! The server packed it in a box for me. Lackluster food, served indifferently. All the typical American Chinese stuff with the same few sweet/salty/bland sauces on top. I wouldn't come here expecting very much, and if you know and appreciate real Chinese food, you won't find it here. The unsmiling woman who brought our food didn't know to apologize when the kitchen gets an order wrong. Even a perfunctory "sorry!" would have been a good start. She just shoots an unfriendly and annoyed look and turns around without a word. Then brings it back on a plate which obviously has had the wrong dish scraped off and the right one plopped in its place. Had kung pao chicken with uncooked cold peanuts sprinkled on top (not cooked with the food like it's supposed to be). Didn't say a word, but just made a mental note about how bad it tasted that way. How did they get a Michelin recommended sticker back in the day? It's been a while since they had it, maybe ten years, but they still have the smiling Michelin man on the cover of their latest menu.
