Solid lunch choice with very attentive service. Chicken katsu and BBQ pork vermicelli were delicious. Squash tempura batter was thicker than expect and less tempura like.

After picking up some things in the bayshore area, my sis and I decided to have lunch in Bernal Heights. It's a cute area with a bunch of restaurants and stores. Kiwa Kitchen popped up when checking yelp. It was only a few minutes away from where we were at. Parking can take awhile but side streets usually have 2 hr parking. Check the signs to make sure there's no street cleaning! Kiwa Kitchen has this island vibe with Hawaiian music playing in the background. Looking over the menu, it's a melting pot of different Asian dishes. We decided to share the chicken kaarage, tea leaf salad and a tonkatsu ramen. The kaarage was tasty little bits of chicken and tea leaf salad was good as well. However, the ramen noodles were overcooked and soggy. The broth was kind of bland. And the egg was not your typical ramen egg but a soft boiled egg without the umami flavor. Maybe the chef had an off day or this is how it's supposed to be? I wouldn't recommend the ramen. Maybe the vermicelli or garlic noodles would have been a better choice. I guess I'll stick to ramen restaurants for ramen.

They have a menu that goes beyond just your typical noodle soups - items ranging from Malaysian‑style curry laksa, spicy roasted duck ramen, to XO sauce dry noodles! We tried a few things and everything felt fresh and satisfying. The house special curry laksa had a rich, creamy broth with just the right amount of spice, and the duck dishes were especially good with tender meat and savory sauces that clung perfectly to the noodles. The small bites like spring rolls and dumplings were nice starters for our group of 4. The service was friendly and quick, with generous portions - exactly the spot we were looking for! It's the only reason I come to 7 Mile House during Asian History Month that aims for Filipino fun. My specialty drink: Ube Colada (non-alcoholic). I want to try the Lambanóg, but it's few years late and I wouldn't mind since I prefer any drink that's zero proof. This creamy purple smoothie is so refreshing, I wouldn't mind getting a brain freeze. Main course? Actually, I take something out of the lunch menu, which is Beyond Burger; pickles at the top, lettuce, tomato, and cheese; old school American style with a plant based patty! I eat the fries first since they're fresh and chewy. Wish I stick around for an appetizer or a salad; but given that there's several people dining indoors while few of us outdoors, I'll have to pass. Before I walk a couple of blocks toward 7 Mile House, I noticed the gas prices for both gas stations are just as high as near my neighborhood. I'll be wondering how long will a famous family run restaurant can go an extra mile before it runs out of steam. My best bet is that we must support each other as local communities, just like how the 7 Mile House of today had kept us together for generations.

Shoutout to the lady who worked all of front-of-house, she is a boss. She was our hostess, server, ran food, and bused tables. All the while, checking in on us often and letting us know when things were on the way so we didn't feel forgotten. Food is all small plate shareables. Our one entree was the pork cheek fried rice. Maybe it was just what we ordered but I felt like everything was really oily/greasy. The freshest items were the negitoro roll and the potato salad they gave to us at the start for free. Yes, it's an izakaya, but we found ourselves struggling to continue eating the plates since it felt so heavy. Sure, maybe we didn't order the right stuff, but lots of the menu items are deep fried, stir-fried, or grilled also. We enjoyed the cumin lamb skewers and the negitoro the best! We were disappointed in the truffle poppers as each bite was more filled with fried breading than mushrooms. The dessert was beautiful and we did enjoy that. We ended up paying like 100pp including tax and tip. There are many Japanese izakayas I can pay less for in San Francisco including a la carte at Rintaro! But anyways, shoutout to the hostess lady, she's a boss.

The wings were quite small, but we got 10 flats. Tasty, but not too spicy. Comparable to the wings you'd get from San Tung or Korean fried chicken wings. 4/5 CHAMPA SAMPLER ~ Lao sausages, fried rice ball salad, & fried spring rolls. Tasty generous platter! It comes with vermicelli noodles and lots of fresh lettuce and herbs so you can make lettuce wraps. Spring rolls were crispy and delicious. I think this was the highlight of our meal. 5/5 LARP LAO STYLE (Duck) SALAD ~ prepared with mint, onions, fish paste, cilantro & Thai eggplants. Alone, the duck is pretty salty. But eating it with the provided lettuce and herbs balanced the flavors and cut the saltiness. Unique and bold flavors. 4/5 PAD THAI ~ thin rice noodles, tamarind, eggs, bean sprouts, and chicken. The Tom Kha soup was the highlight of the meal. It was rich, creamy, and full of flavor, with a nice balance of coconut, citrus, and herbs. It was so good that George is still finishing the leftovers today. Between the two of us, we got about four servings out of it, which felt like a great value. Unfortunately, the Pad See Ew was a letdown. The dish was greasy, lacked depth of flavor, and had very little beef. I ended up contacting customer support to request a partial refund because the portion of protein was so disappointing. For a dish like Pad See Ew, you expect tender slices of beef, chewy rice noodles, and a balanced savory and slightly sweet soy flavor with a bit of char from the wok, but this version fell short. Overall, the soup was excellent and worth ordering again, but the noodle dish did not meet expectations. I have heard good things about this place and hope this was just an off day.

When I carried the box to my car a few paces outside the store, sauce leaked from the trays, through the holes in the box, and all down my new pants. They gave me a few napkins for my trouble. Luckily, I had a beach towel in my car but I had to go to two meetings with a mess of stains on my new pants and shoes. The stains never came out so I had to throw both out. Additionally, the food was also mediocre compared to the Rockridge location. It's likely due to making it in bulk but it was just a cherry on top of a bad sundae.
