I loved everything about this place. It's a modern luncheonette, which happens to serve beer :) Clean, bright, family-owned for 3 generations, prices are good and service is friendly. And the food is classic, tasty and generous! It's just a lot of fun, especially when you see the photos and read the family story.

I was in Gettysburg for a day trip and stopped in at Ernie's for breakfast. It has a classic diner vibe and great diner food and prices. One egg, two slices of bacon, toast, and coffee for $5.39? Yes, please. Everything was simple and traditionally prepared (egg cooked over easy, bacon crispy, toast buttery, plain coffee). The service was good. Overall, it was a great first stop in Gettysburg - quick, delicious, affordable, classic breakfast.

August 11, 2022 Came here for breakfast. Didn't have anything special but their pancakes and bacon were pretty on par. Nothing to complain about! What this place has is phenomenal atmosphere! Kinda old-fashioned there going in here and it works. Couple that with the extraordinary staff and you have a real winner. Will absolutely return!

Basic greasy spoon diner... very limited menu... very bland food but good coffee and good service despite there being only one server for the place. The place is clean despite previous reviews. The breakfast was just super bland even the home fries were bland I ordered with with onions per the menu but I'm pretty sure there were no onions in them. They must be saving them for the hotdogs. A definite skip for breakfast although there were quite a few locals in there at 6:30am the waitress knew their orders from memory.

Loved the atmosphere and the fact it had been run by three generations - there is a great graphical history on the wall with photos. Very clean, cheerful and bright interior - every other booth is clearly marked for social distancing and same with seats at counter. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Food and service is good - great all around lunch experience. I got the grilled cheese and shared some of my husband's French fries which were cooked just perfect. Definitely worth a stop to check out this 3rd generation family owned business. Plus today was free Fauschnaut Day with every meal. How friendly is that!

I love there breakfast however there was hair in my food cause the cook never wears hair nets and I come in there regularly so very disappointing my stomach was so sick after eating

Everyone coming to Gettysburg needs to visit this downtown gem! Dottie provided exemplary service! Lots of red and white decor throughout this diner-like restaurant. We enjoyed hot dogs with casings--with mustard, chili, and onions. Thirst-quenching sodas on tap, Southern-style iced tea. Crispy, tasty French fries. Regular portion of fries good for two to share. Priced just right. What's not to like?

We always are cheerfully greeted, and we are seated immediately because it was right after lunch and right before the dinner rush and we sat in the bar area on a high top and it worked out perfectly. Our server was outstanding. She came over got our drink order and if we wanted any appetizers which we did not get this time, but let me just say their appetizers are to kill for they are outstanding. As you can see in the photos, the burgers are done right they are nice and juicy and the toppings are just right in the buns are so fresh. It's crazy. So if you're in the Gettysburg Square area, we highly and I mean highly recommend stopping in here for either a burger or one of their other options which are all really good food well prepare prepared.

My wife and I both had the shrimp baskets and two soft drinks for lunch. The shrimp baskets were $17 each and the soft drinks $3 each. With tax and tips the total bill came to $50. The shrimp were obviously pre-battered and frozen but they were pretty tasty. The french fries had some kind of a nice crispy coating and were excellent. The coleslaw was pretty tired. The service was cordial and quick. The decor is as I remembered very nice. There is free parking behind this restaurant, but not many people know it is there. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because I think that the cost of the luncheon was a little more than it should've been for what we received. Had the shrimp been coated with a batter and fried from scratch (instead of being taken out of a frozen bag) I might've been able to award five stars. But... All in all this restaurant continues to hold its "very good to excellent" reputation for food and service over many years. I would die there again and I would recommend it with no reservations.

We were there on a busy Saturday; they were clearly slammed and probably understaffed, and it took a bit over 20 minutes after ordering to get our food. Other than the wait for the kitchen, the service at the table was very good. It felt a bit pricey at about $62 for two with tip. Cheesesteaks were good but on the small side for $17 and $19 (the latter on a gluten‑free bun), and a little light on the Cheese Whiz. That, plus a cider and a Coke, left the overall experience somewhat underwhelming.

Of the two servers they had, we had the worst of the two. She disappeared from the floor for long periods so it was difficult to even get a drink refill. Ended up sticking with water as the one cocktail I had was clearly a mix and also seemed to have no alcohol in it. Appetizer selection was limited to seafood or onion soup. Don't like seafood? Tough luck. If you like seafood with some variation of Old Bay then you'll probably like this place. Although there are much cheaper places to eat if you just want basic northerner seasoning. The restaurant was not advertised as a seafood place otherwise I would have avoided it. I ended up ordering a steak, which came with a salad and a potato. The salad and potato was the best part. Despite ordering the steak medium rare, it was unevenly cooked and dry with a leathery exterior. I would have sent it back but I didn't want to spend another hour trying to get someone's attention to resolve it. If I ever find myself in Gettysburg again, I will be sure to eat elsewhere, this was not good value for money.

He said that "You are transported back in time the moment you step into the place." He was not wrong. Though it was late evening, there were still tons of people waiting to get in. We were starving but figured the wait must mean the food was worth it and...it was! We chose first available and were seated at the bar in the corner. It was nice because we didn't wait long to be served and we had I nice view of the entire restaurant. A very rustic place that looked as I would imagine it did in 1863. My friend ordered a Caesar salad, fillet, and a baked potato. The salad came with a freshly baked yeast dinner roll. Fillet was cooked to perfection. I ordered the King's Soup which was French onion soup except with large chunks of tender beef in it. My entree was the Spring House Salad which was mixed greens, apples, walnuts, chipped smoked turkey, with herb dressing and it was divine. The sleeper of the meal was the datenut bread with cream cheese that came with my salad. A dark brown molasses bread with dried fruit and nuts. It was so chocked full of nuts and fruit while the dough was the most moist bread I've ever had. I couldn't eat both pieces after the meal so took it in a to go container.
