I have only tried one escape room before and it was a whole different vibe then the room we chose this time. We tried out the Murder on the Orient Express and it was hard to start off at first, even with 5 of us. The youngest of us being my 10 year old daughter, our minds all went different directions when the clock started ticking, but with a hint (or two- maybe 3) we figured it out with 7 minutes to spare! One of the things I'd say was a tad frustrating was that the hints given were often things we already had done, or understood and then they'd kind of skip forward a bit to the next one when we said "did that" - so I don't know if it's an automated list of hints they have to go through or if the game master can actually intervene with specifics and is watching but it didn't seem like they had known where we were at right away. My daughter was actually bummed when it was over so we definitely will have to try out another room one of these days! read more

We did the Murder Mansion room. We've done a few escape rooms before so we're still relatively beginners, but we have a grasp on escape room flow and mechanics. While we had fun, we experienced some negative things: 1. The clues did not easily flow from one to another, and we felt like there wasn't enough information for us to understand how to complete quite a few of the puzzles. 2. We unlocked a drawer but it was stuck and wouldn't open. We asked for a hint because we thought we were missing something. Just for curiosity, we used extra force to open it afterwards and it finally opened. We told the Gamemaster about it, and they let their coworker know, but more attention should be put into resetting the room because we wasted time trying to understand if we were supposed to force it open or not. 3. When we asked for a hint because we didn't understand why the drawer wasn't opening, the Gamemaster gave us a hint for opening the drawer lock, which we already did, so they clearly weren't paying attention. 4. The hints weren't really hints sometimes, they just gave us the answer. 5. There wasn't much really happening in the room for it being $50/person. The theming wasn't that great, the puzzles weren't exciting, and there weren't great effects. read more

Came by for a bday party. Our prior experience was awesome. This last time was a bit different. The employee assisting for the escape room group was great. There was a reserved room for the birthday party and unfortunately, the staff that was around was rude. As a party guest I felt like our party did something wrong lol. Turns out the staff was rushing the party. Unlike other businesses, it feels like parties were booked back to back without a buffer. One of the employees was constantly reminding the host that the party was ending. Not a good sign for a business that caters to groups lol. I would like to think this was a one off. read more

The manager who currently works here is very unprofessional and clearly doesn't know how to handle situations correctly. My mom had called to ask about a package she bought a while ago, she was asking questions regarding the package because she was confused and the manager got irritated and gave us attitude for it. Despite that we still went to go to the escapology place. The rest of the staff were nice to us! But once we were done with escaping we went ahead to take pictures, and while i was posing one of us asked to take a photo of all of us and the manager asked us to leave for being "rude" on the phone earlier. In reality she was the one who was being rude and let the anger take over her. When we tried to explain and talk back to her she got even more frustrated and claimed to ban us from the location. I have never seen a manager so unprofessional before, that is no way to handle things. Crazy how she got mad over something she started. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share our experience. My family and I visited Escapology at Universal CityWalk after purchasing a promotional package last year. Before coming in, we called to confirm how our promotion worked. Unfortunately, the manager in universal city walk escapology who answered the phone was rude, impatient, and spoke to us with an attitude while we were simply asking questions to understand the promotion. When we asked if we could speak with a manager, she responded, "You're already talking to the manager," in a very dismissive tone before abruptly hanging up on us. Despite that unpleasant phone call, we decided to give the location a chance. When we arrived, another employee kindly reviewed our email, explained our promotion clearly, and helped resolve the confusion. He was professional, patient, and provided excellent customer service. We appreciated his help. Then when we're about to pay ge transfered us to other lady which I believe was the supervisor. As we paying she's charging us $99 when the other guys told us that we only need to pay $50 for kids si de we still have the promotion which is the 25% off. So I just ask her nicely not in a disrespectful way to call the other guy who help us first so he could explain it to her. So we paid, we're booked in. Everything seems fine even though she's rushing us before the game and after and I feel that's kind of odd. After we finished our escape room, we were taking family photos. My boyfriend politely asked the manager if she could take one picture of all of us. Instead of simply helping or declining, she unexpectedly told us we had to leave because we had been "disrespectful" to her and her supervisor over the phone. This completely caught us off guard. We had never raised our voices or disrespected anyone. We were only asking questions about a promotion we had already purchased. If we had truly been disrespectful, why were we allowed to complete our purchase, play the game for over an hour, and only then be confronted after everything was finished? I even asked to check the cctvs if we're being disrespectful and she said, I didn't have to check the cctv. which I found very unfair and very unprofessional. The most disappointing part was that this happened in front of our children. I asked her not to continue the confrontation because my kids were there, but she said she didn't care. As a parent, that was heartbreaking and completely unprofessional. I understand that misunderstandings happen, but managers are expected to de-escalate situations professionally not create them. This experience left my family embarrassed and disappointed. The escape room itself was fun, and the employee who initially helped us was wonderful. Unfortunately, the manager's behavior overshadowed what should have been a great family outing. it was traumatizing to my kids especially that never happened to us. I sincerely hope management addresses this issue so other families don't have a similar experience. read more

We have never done an escape room before and are probably not the target audience but decided to try something new while my friend was in town celebrating a birthday! We all had fun even though we didn't solve the puzzle and were out of our element. Had we had a little more time I think we could have finished. I wish there was a way maybe they could offer a package where you can buy extra time if it's your first time - it took us a bit to figure out how this all worked. We were given a lot of hints which did help . It takes a little bit for a newbie to realize how this all works There were only three of us so I think that was maybe a hindrance as well Also looking back at one point when we opened something to receive clues - there was one missing that we never found so I'm not sure if there was another item to discover and open or whether it just went missing I also wish the team photo was themed around which escape you did - maybe they can use a tablet and a template then email you the photo. My son has been asking to do an escape room for awhile now, but I thought he might be a bit too young (7). I spoke to the employee here and asked if we did the 'kids mode' for the Scooby Doo room, if he would be able to get through it. They mentioned that none of their rooms are really made for people younger than 10, but since there were unlimited hints, we could at least try. So try we did. I can completely understand why they said 10+. My son really struggled. And I had a hard time trying to basically solve the puzzles on my own. We used plenty of hints. But you know what? My son still had an absolute blast and looks forward to going to another one. I will say, however, there was one puzzle that we solved (the puzzle master confirmed after we were out) but the trigger didn't fire off & a drawer didn't open up. That could've helped us needing to rely on another hint to solve one of the puzzles. That was a disappointment. I've done plenty of escape rooms and I gotta say I really enjoyed the production value of Escapology. The staff here was also incredibly friendly and helpful. The place I work at booked this place one day for some team-building shenanigans. First thing I noticed about this venue was their collection of wall-mounted clocks all set to different times along with old-fashioned furniture. When everyone was divvied up, there were eight groups of around 4-6 people. Eight is great, cause this place offers exactly that, an impressive amount of escape rooms all running at once. Our team was assigned the "Batman: The Dark Knight Challenge", so off we went. Reading some of the other reviews for this particular room, seems there were frustrations with technical difficulties. Fortunately, we had no issues completing all the puzzles, even ending up with about 15 minutes to spare from two hints used. Visually, the design of the environments was simple and didn't offer that many surprises, though it was nice to see familiar characters, and the guy voicing Batman was decent, if not "too" clear. There were times we kept fiddling around with some prop, until the clue master told us it was just for looks. Actually, the clue master was very friendly and cheered us on. Having prior knowledge of Batman wasn't necessary, though I'm told the Scooby Doo one wasn't quite the same. Other groups enjoyed themselves and successfully completed their tasks, except one who didn't finish. I know the feeling, having failed a number of escape rooms in the past. We all took photos with the fun speech bubbles, mine being the "Moral Support" one. Overall, a fun meeting was had. read more

Our Girl Scout troop visited Escapology Escape Rooms on a Sunday afternoon. The setting of the establishment is very mysterious with a huge curtain and antique carpets. The welcome room is basically like the game Clue, with brown leather couches and wooden dark brown tables. It gave you the feeling of entering Sherlock Holmes office. Our host was very nice and welcoming. It was our first time here and the troop chose to the Mansion Murder escape room. The girls enjoyed the details and clues put together to escape the room. They actually solved it and would have escaped the room if only the key was there. Whoever set up the room for the girls forgot to place the key in the stool therefore they didn't get to escape the room but they had 15 minutes left. We are coming back in April for a birthday party. Went to the new Universal City Walk location for my 23rd bday and I had such a great time! We were a group of 4 and we did the Mona Lisa room. It was a ton of fun with the right amount of challenge and I appreciated the fact that we could request unlimited amount of hints in case we got stuck. We were able to finish with about 15 minutes to spare which is great but at the same time it does suck that we spent less than an hour in the room I wish it was longer especially because of the price. We had our 10 year old son's birthday here and it was an amazing experience for everyone. Details below: Communication Before scheduling the event, we communicated with the event coordinator by phone and email. She was very helpful, responsive, accurate, and friendly. Communication was seamless. The Facility Arriving at the facility, we were very pleasantly surprised at the preparation. The birthday room was beautiful, with a leather couch for the parents. The table was already set with everything that we needed. Plates, Napkins, cups, utensils etc... Everything was clean and tidy. The Staff The staff was very friendly, and helpful. There was no confusion and everything went as planned. They accommodated final minor requests which was very helpful. The Experience The kids had an amazing time in the Mona Lisa escape room. They were all engaged, and were able to escape in the nick of time. They all raved about it and claimed that it was one of their favorite birthday experiences. The clues and theme was fine for the kids. The Party Room after the Escape Room After we finished the Escape Room, we did the birthday celebration, with Pizza, soft drinks, and cake in the party room, and everything went smoothly. It was my first time here, and I can't believe I never knew this place. A lot of escape rooms are in Los Angeles and deep in Los Angeles but this was right by my place. I was my family for my brother's birthday, and we escaped the most challenging escape room with five minutes of sphere. We didn't hear any records, but I would love to come back and get a record. The escape rooms are very reasonable and not impossible like other places. I love how clean this places and when you walk in you even feel like you're in an escape room. There is a long hallway, very clean, bathrooms, and activities that you can play with upfront. Like a nice spy, book and tic-tac-toe. It was so much fun, and I would love to host a party here as a host parties too. We did the Oriental express escape room. Again, it is the most challenging.but it was really fun. read more

We did Pirate Bay!!! Okay so I will say the lobby was beautiful and the puzzle quality and props were really good. Staff were also very friendly and welcoming. We waited a bit bc they forgot about us but it wasn't a big deal. There's free parking that you have to go under an arch to get to the location but I do have one huge issue, they don't let you take pictures inside the room. They say it's because they don't want to give anything away but there were plenty of places you could take a picture and it wouldn't give anything away like the skeleton. Instead they have you take pics inside front of a generic escapology background with tacky signs. They don't even have a sign with the room name so we basically could have done any room bc there was nothing defining the theme in the photo. The least they could do was what other places do and create a background that they send you. It's just very disappointing. You spend so much on the set design and don't even let us take a picture with it. They do give rubber wristbands with the name though which is cool but not as memorable as the escape room picture! The other thing was either a puzzle wasn't working or they didn't set it properly or forgot but we were missing a huge puzzle at the end. But the picture was the most disappointing part!!! read more

Mixed feelings about my experience here for a friend's bday. When we entered, Escapology was decorated nicely and had nice lighting. Workers were chill and there was even a room for birthday parties. Nice lil' photo op at the end for MEMORIES. My group tried the Mansion Murder room. We almost escaped but my main qualm was the overall flow of the room. Our game master guided us in the right direction but there were some discrepancies with the bells, codes toward the end and dim lighting. Maybe add a small flashlight for those with poor vision??
