Brunch menu was amazing. I loved the variety of shashukas. The restaurant is gorgeous and very chic. I wished they put less cheese though and offered more bread bc the long rolls weren't ideal for dipping. Definitely plan on taking leftovers. Atmosphere is wonderful. Truly a beautiful restaurant. Service is top-notch. All around a great meal except for one thing. I very rarely eat red meat and I had never had wagyu beef before, so when I ordered the wagyu burger, cooked medium, I was a little disappointed to find it rather tough with virtually NO pink in the center. I did not send it back because we were not dining alone and I did not want to disrupt the flow of our meal. The accoutrements of the burger were fantastic, so that made up a bit for the overcooked meat. I guess next time I'll order the branzino! read more

Cannot say enough amazing things about ESH! I am a fan of the food quality, presentation, and atmosphere. Love that it gives the feel of an upscale restaurant right in CT; from the octopus mural to the indoor trees, its a great spot for a date night or girls night. Decided to have an early apps and drinks with the wife, and went into the beautiful Esh restaurant, was greeted very nicely by the hostess, and manager and we had decided to sit at the bar. Two bar tenders male and female, neither greeted with name so no idea who they were, and receipt said bar. Male bar tender was serving us, and had a few jokes/ comments that made my wife and I a bit taken back. We love to have fun with the staff at restaurants but these were more insulting than fun comments. Place was fairly empty with a small party behind us. Food was delicious, flat bread was great, and artichoke was amazing! When we were going to order more, asked the male bar tender if we order more, do they have to go- he told us because of Happy Hour, we could not take anything to go. Felt very puzzled as we were going to order entrees, as well as one other item from the HH menu. Decided at that point it's time to go. Food and ambience is amazing, but the male bar tender put a very bad experience in our minds, and made us wonder if we would return. read more

If you want fast food and spend $200+, this is your place to go!! Oh, where do I begin? We made a reservation at this restaurant, under the assumption of a brunch/dinner experience. When calling the restaurant, they guaranteed, we'd have the brunch menu 'PLUS' the dinner menu. The restaurant called and confirmed our reservation, leaving the message along side, 'call us back to guarantee a seat' Upon arrival, the parking situation was incorrect. Secondly; to heckle us on the confirmation of our reservations' 'The place was empty' Seated at our table, we were expected to place an order on a split second. With the waiter then saying, QUOTE, 'I'll put this order in, but we don't do it like this." Not to mention, half the options offered on the menu, were not available. To pay $20-$50 on average for a dish here, do your diligence. Mediocre food at extremely high prices The four of us sat there for, maybe 40 min, spent over $200 We each had ONE adult beverage, and shared THREE apps The waiter dropped the check, watched us like a shark, to check and see when we paid. Short Story - Good service, mediocre food that is overseasoned and overpriced! We wouldn't recommend or go back. Longer Story- Went for anniversary dinner with my wife. We have been wanting to try this place ever since they opened. We really wanted to love it! However, the first turn off was that most of the seating is not intimate. Its one big long booth style bench seat with tables only maybe 2 feet apart. Opposite the bench is a chair on the other side of each table. You are practically rubbing elbows with the other patrons next to you. The only tables that seemed semi-private were for larger parties of 6. It made it awkward to have "real" conversation and exchange small gifts we got for each other. The gentleman next to us kept leaning over and giving us recommendations on what we should order. Nice guy but it shows how close you are to other patrons. With that said, the service was pretty good. They do require you to place your entire order at once (starters and entrees). This is difficult because its hard to gauge portion size and how hungry we will be after starters. We ordered the Original Hummus that comes with 1 piece of flatbread. $18 and additional pieces of flatbread are $9. It was good but something in it was super spicy (hot spicy). Nothing on menu specified that it would be that way. Crispy Duck wings were everything but crispy. They were only drums with no wing portions, soggy and so overflavored with harissa that my wife and I each ate 1 and had the other 3 packaged to take home..... couldn't bring myself to throw out "wings" that cost $20 for order of 5. The coal grilled calimari was next.... The calamari were super tiny and thin..... rings only...and underwhelming. Definitely a strong coal flavor but that was it. My entree was the Black angus ribeye shawarma.... It was a pita with ribeye shawarma and various toppinggs with a side of parsley salad. The seasonings were very strong but the dish just didnt taste great. They go so heavy on seasoning that the natural flavors of the meat do not come through. Not worth the $46 price tag. My wife ordered the Charcoal Grilled Prime Ribeye. They did cook it medium rare as asked but it came out as a kabob style and again very underwhelming. The only star of the show was the side of brussel sprouts we added on and those were delicious. Disappointing for the $60 price tag. Drinks were decent but also around $20 a pop. We basically left underwhelmed with $300 less in our bank account. read more

My family and I came to Esh for my dad's birthday. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation as far in advance as you can because they fill up early. It is immediately apparent that there's a warm and inviting ambiance with service to match it. We started with tasty drinks and ordered our food tapas style. We had the hummus, smoked garlic eggplant, falafel basket, chopped salad, Jerusalem artichoke, and roasted sweet potato. The food took a little while to start coming out, but once it did, everything came out very quickly. The complimentary flatbread provided is INSANE. We spoke to the manager after our meal to rave about everything and he said they implement a special technology to make the bread. I'm not sure what alchemy they are doing in the kitchen, but it results in the best bread I've ever had along with other amazing food. I loved the zatar oil that came with the bread as well. My favorite bite was the bread with the delicious smoked garlic eggplant, which tasted pretty similar to babaganoush to me. My next favorite was the Jerusalem artichokes. They were crunchy on the outside while being hearty/meaty on the inside and had a flavorful sweet and spicy sauce. This was a very unique take on artichokes and it's not immediately recognizable that it's the vegetable upon sight or taste. The falafel basket was my third favorite dish. These are expertly crispy while being soft on the inside and I loved the fun square shape they came in. I also liked that it came with two types of falafel - standard and sweet potato. After that, I equally enjoyed the chopped salad and hummus. The chopped salad was very fresh so it compliments the other food well. It was well-dressed too. Next, the hummus was very good and I liked that it was topped with whole chickpeas, but I just personally prefer my hummus to have more contrasting flavor components. All of the above dishes I mentioned were great and the only dish that missed the mark for us was the sweet potatoes. With the description of "fire roasted sweet potatoes, black tahini, smoked meldon sea salt," I'd thought I would love them. However, maybe ours weren't seasoned properly, because everyone thought they basically tasted like a standard sweet potato. We ended with the fabulous Esh Silan Sundae, vanilla ice cream with shredded halva, silan (date honey), caramelized almonds, and rice puffs (like rice crispies) on the bottom. It was great! The vanilla ice cream was refreshing and high-quality and the toppings added very nice flavors and textures. For the most part, everything we had was so special, and based on all the other incredible-looking dishes we saw coming out of the kitchen to go to other tables, you can't go wrong. The tapas we ordered were well-portioned and the entrees also looked like a very nice portion, which is much appreciated! When we left, we made a reservation for my sister's upcoming birthday! Alright so for drinks we chose margaritas and martinis. We also sampled a aperol spritz beverage, all of the drinks were so good! The buzz we were looking for we received. For food we did a smoked eggplant and garlic meze dip. Main course was the giant "head on shrimp" over polenta. So so good! The shrimp was huge lol. The space is also beautiful! Wow, this place was delicious. The starter which is a large flatbread was so soft with the perfect texture. The hummus tastes the way hummus should. The flavors of the food did not disappoint. My favorite dishes were the branzino, shrimp, crab shakshuka, octopus and the little gem salad. Chef Efraim took such great care with his food. We came here for a birthday dinner. I was excited to try something new! The restaurant is gorgeous! The service was a bit slow but we were not in a rush so no big deal and it was also very busy so it's to be expected. Our server was kind, as were the helpers. The experience here was definitely unique, in a great way. We started off with the Meze dips. 5 for 35$ and served with flatbread and olives. They were all delicious! Definitely flavors I've never tasted before. This was the favorite part of my meal. For my entree, I ordered the North African style halibut - tomato sauce with paprika, garlic, red pepper, green chickpeas, homemade potato gnocchi & cilantro. In my opinion, the flavors were way too powerful. The fish was cooked perfectly, but I sadly couldn't finish it nor anything else on my plate. It was too much for me. Just had a wonderful date night at Esh (Hebrew for fire)! We met Noam, one of the owners who came by to see how we were doing and learned that he and his partner owned Taboon, a great restaurant that was in Hell's Kitchen. So they have Manhattan and Israeli cred. The décor is beautiful, with an open kitchen and great lighting. And the food really delivered! Audrey had a Cosmo and confirmed that the other reviewer who raved about them was correct. I had a glass of Chianti, which was great. They brought by some complimentary flat brad that was fluffy and delicious and flavored with oil and Rosemary, and four small containers with Zaatar Oil, Carrots, pickled radishes and olives. And we shared the Shish Barak - which is a middle eastern take on Tortellini. Fantastic. Audrey had the Halibut and I had the Adana lamb kabobs. Both were amazing. The seasonings are delicate and delicious. There was a tahini dip and shishitos and grilled cherry tomatoes with the lamb. Perfection. We really wanted the K'nafé for dessert, but we were too full. We made reservations for three weeks from now with friends, so we will save room. And that is the proof of quality. There were some service issues, which is not unexpected in a place that has not been open a full two weeks yet. I am sure they will solve them! One note - you can park in the Alto Metro Parking lot and they will validate the parking ticket. There are three ways in - from Kings Highway Extension, from State Street Extension and from Constant Comment Drive which takes you to the northbound Metro North station. They did not advertise that, so you should know! I think we are in for the long haul on this one! Addendum: We returned with friends last Satyrday night.
