One of my favorite coffee shops in the Bishop Arts area. It has a nice tranquil ambiance, the employees are friendly and quick with your order, and the coffee is great. It has a small sitting are inside. It's not expensive, a coffee is about five dollars. Taking into account it's price point and quality, it's a great place. I was very excited to see there was a cafe near my house. I decided to try the Passion Fruit Smoothie and it was amazing! And the Nutella-Banana Panini is to die for! And this place is famous for its Empanadas, nothing special, but worth a try!! The Chocolate Frapp is very good too! The setting feels like I'm in Chicago, it has that Chicago vibe. Coming back to the bishop arts district I cannot believe I have never entered here before. It has such great vibes! I was shocked to know they had empanadas and some with guava. I've got to say, the Colombia mix on things is where it's at. I ordered a white mocha and the employee was so kind and sweet. She made sure this mocha was going to be good and my gosh she was right. I'm very pleased that it was sweet enough and I even had a bit of toffee crunch flavor added to the almond milk. I really recommend this to anyone as their first drink. There are couches to the right when you first walk in making this even more comfortable. The whole feel of this place was like home. I'm coming back with my family. Service could use a change: Horrible experience for the first time trying this place out. We were going to get a fairly big order for some family and friends and didn't end up getting anything. Looked up some shops in the area and this was one of the top choices that was open for Memorial Day. The site says they are open until 4:30, so we go in at 4 and the door is locked with someone working inside. Knocked and no response was given. So I called and the girl working said they had just closed (again website says 4:30). I informed her of this per the website and she said "well we are closed, bye" really rudely and hangs up. (called twice again and my call was not answered) Don't think we will ever end up spending our money on a inconsistent place of service like this. Maybe it isn't the place, based on these reviews, but rather the seemingly young and rude employee. read more

Cafe Espumosso is probably one of my favorite places to just relax and spend my alone time. Its a very laid back atmosphere, with very friendly staff, and they always play good music. The coffee is excellent, I usually get cappuccinos or Ill let the owner surprise me to whatever concoction of his choice. The paninis are fantastic but the empanadas are where its at. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a good cup of coffee and a place to just hang out a while. Im not crazy about the tea because they don't brew whole leaf, but then again no one really does. whole leaf tea brewing would be my only suggestion to this place. I give this place a 3 star because it was my first time in there overly excited to try this coffee even though I didn't particularly need or want it...we walked by it and say that it was rated the best coffee in dallas so of course it peaked my interest as it should have since that was the point of the poster.! PSeeing how it was a small hole in the wall I feel like they should have been friendlier and inviting. The guy was confused taking my ordered when I asked him for a small iced mocha... As if he had no idea what that was. I debated getting a smoothie prior to asking for a iced mocha.. They have many different flavors and I didn't wanna get a normal smoothie like a strawberry or peach... So I asked him what the different fruit ones were .... I've never had those fruits before or heard of them so I wanted to know about them and if they were good or sweet or bitter or bland. He just pointed me to a different type of fruit pulp menu they had that I can choose from.... So I looked at it and it was just too much to read while there was line forming behind me. So then I got an iced mocha latte for $4.95 16oz. Not amazing it was ok.! So not worth $5... Oh well at least I got to try it :) won't be back .... read more

I wish I had something good to say about Espumoso Caffe, sadly I do not. My first impression of the shop was perfectly fine, it's quaint, but I wouldn't necessarily say inviting. We arrived there about 20 minutes after opening, no music playing, no welcoming words when I walked through the door that's only 20 feet from the register- the man at the register didn't even look up from his cellphone as I approached the counter. And this may be tmi, but there was no tp in the restroom, which means that neither the closing shifts nor the opening shifts tended to their chores. Now everything that I've said up until now isn't a deal breaker, but the rest is. Now to make things very clear, I have NEVER IN MY LIFE returned any food or drinks! Especially coffee!! I'm a seasoned veteran of the Service Industry and actually a Barista myself. I live for coffee and sincere customer service interactions. So in short, I have standards and expectations. After ordering my small Latte almond milk latte w/ an extra shot of espresso from the unpleasant and already moody man at the register, I was told my total was over $7. I asked him if he had charged me twice for the extra shot because that seemed very pricey. Espumoso isn't what I would call a high end espresso caffe so I was very confused as to the huge up charge from $2.99 + tax to over $7 for a simple milk substitute and extra shot. He then very rudely scoffed at me and asked me where I usually go because that price was standard, taken aback at his blatant disrespect to the customer (myself) standing in front of him, I replied with "Well typically an extra shot is closer to .50¢ and a dairy substitute is around there also." He then asked me- now in more of a hostile tone- where I was getting that information, at which point I let him know that I personally am a Barista, so from my own educated experience, and that the up-charge was insane. Now at this point he's made no attempt to turn this terrible customer service around, and he's speaking to me sarcastically and I can very much feel his hostility towards me, which made me start to feel very uncomfortable. He did not offer in any way to make my experience a better one when I was visibly and verbally unhappy. So I did the best thing I could at that moment and decided to just not say anything back to him. I've always prided myself in my excellent customer service, as well as being an excellent and understanding Customer. So I ignored the interaction. I paid the $7+ dollars disappointingly, and went to sit with my boyfriend who had already purchased and received his drink before I had even entered the building. When I sat down I asked him if he ordered the same thing I had and what he paid. He said he did order the same thing however was charged less but still charged above average. At this point I'm truly annoyed. I've never had such a terrible interaction and I visit A LOT of coffee shops. So I marched myself back up to the counter and asked the man why my boyfriend was charged less. I told him he ordered the exact same thing that I did. The mans response was to snap at me "Well he didn't order that." and then look at me with a very aggressive smile on his face. I responded with "Well he did order that, he specifically made sure to tell you twice because you didn't get it right the first time he attempted to order from you." The man behind the counter told me that my boyfriend had only purchased a latte with almond milk but no extra shot. I'm exasperated by now from arguing and dealing with this man, so I just said to him "OK" and sat back down. How on earth my boyfriends Small almond milk latte went from just over $3 to over $6 for a milk substitute I'll never know. My latte was ready quickly and brought to me from the seemingly very nice barista who made it. He had nothing to do with the awful man at the register so I had no hard feelings towards him when he kindly walked the latte over to me. Now unfortunately this sent me over the edge, the latte was awful. The milk was absolutely burned and I had about 2" of choppy, bubbly, burned foam on top. I can't even tell you how disappointed I am at this. After the whole interaction at the counter, I feel that the barista intentionally did this after overhearing my conversation with the other man out of spite. I can and have paid $7+ for a latte before, but it was worth the $7. This one was undrinkable. This is when I made the decision to ask for my money back, one which I have never in my life done even though like everyone else I've received my fare share of poor service and sub par food and drinks. Of course I was met with attitude when I brought my drink back up to the counter. The first thing the man said to me with a passive aggressive laugh, after I respectfully and politely told him I'd like a refund was "Was it the price?" this great little place saved me after a night of drinking cheap wine at a wedding. the air conditioning. the artwork. the homemade empanadas. and of course, the espresso. i love me some lavazza. they've got it and they know how to pull it. i liked this coffee house as much, if not more, than most of the ones i frequent in austin. a lot of care was put into the drinks and food. i could feel the love (through the hangover). there were several seating areas, including a few tables outside. we found easy street parking. read more

Espumoso is a NO GO! I'm so upset. I can never EVER step foot in there again due to bad memories from my visit a few hours ago. I was in a pretty good mood for Mardi Gras. Not intimidating in cute green outfit with beads. The female employee at the counter was pleasant and efficient, but the male further back shocked my senses later when he verbally jumped on me just before I was leaving. I was rather stunned!! So, out of line. Like, HUH? But shaking it off... I simply left the caffe with my empanadas to sit across the way.. but then realized they were burnt (they'd had an oven problem while I was waiting so long, she said fixed it and tried again, I was patient) and so disappointed so burnt. I returned to the caffe, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, FIRST and FOREMOST to ask the guy WHY he had lashed out at me (I was really puzzled) and it upset me .....and so, what was his response??? ...it was to escalate!!! (HUH?) ... He accused me outright that I came in there looking for trouble!! (WHAT???),, that when I got the receipt (from gal) to sign for the order I mentioned (matter of fact) to her that the tax wasn't on it, don't see it..... I answered to him that... well, yeah, soooo???........., I mean the tax usually is on it! .(the gal had responded, handled it fine, calmly, I had added something lightly to her "oh, I guess u just include it" (without the break down).... and nothing else about it. I had even added a little tip on it for her, just for her taking my order. Oh, and he threatened to kick me out, ..HUH??? And I left again with burnt food. Upshot- This man doth protestith too much...guilty of something??? hmmm. Perhaps the company is scamming people or the tax man??) I have been upset for hours about this guy's abuse of me! The coffee is was average at best. The owners are friendly well the owner's father was. I had a bad experience with the Son and Mother. Someone I knew in high school worked here and was wrongfully accused of stealing money. I tried not to let that make my decision on the people and coffee, but coffee was average food was decent, but not what people are making it out to be. Customer service from the father was great he was friendly, but I got a bit of an attitude from the Son and Mother other time's I've visited. I think I'll stick to Starbucks and Java. read more

I made several visits to this place and thought it was amazing--good atmosphere, pretty good coffee, pretty nice baristas. But, after my last visit, I'm not planning to return. The barista made the incorrect beverage twice in a row, and when I asked if she could give me what I ordered (and paid for), she gave me a speech about how much money the remakes were costing her and asked me "what's the difference?" (If you care enough about coffee to love independent coffeehouses and quality espresso, you can certainly taste "the difference" between two completely different orders!) Really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and the chicken and cheese empanada was awesome. My ice mocha is delicious and my partner's mango smoothie is making a very positive impression as well. Highly recommended as a hang-out or in our case, we are early for a brunch date so reading the paper and checking email while sipping our delicious beverages. We just left another coffee shop around the corner after they asked us to sit outside with our service dog (which is against the ADA for the record) when we saw Espumoso and decided to try there instead. Not only did they gladly welcome us and our service dog (they even brought him a cup of water!) they also had one of the best iced chai lattes I've had. The seating was comfortable and it was nice to get out of the heat for a little. read more
