I'm in love. No. Seriously. I'm so in love with Esther's Place and I've only eaten there physically once but that the meal at least twice (and only a day apart from each other...it was that good). It's a hidden gem, located in the Old World Village Plaza. It's run by the namesake herself, Esther and she's just a human being of love, kindness, and joy when you step through the front door. She has an amazing memory because I came with a friend who recommended this place to me and she immediately recognized him. I can hear here "back again!" echoing in the back of my mind. She's incredibly friendly and really puts the service in customer service. I highly recommend trying her Esther Combo and egg salad side at least once. The prices are incredibly affordable for the amount you are getting on a place ($8 for a super full meal? I'm down!) The Esther Combo comes with two types of salads: a soy lemon chicken salad and an Asian ginger salad served with two scoops of brown rice. You can get avocado added on for an extra $1 and I say go for it. The creamy avocado compliments everything in that dish well. It's a perfect hearty meal without feeling greasy or sick by the end of the day. It was so good that I ordered it to be delivered to my workplace the next day because I missed it so much. The egg salad is just as great with a hint of saltiness mixed in with the creaminess from egg yolk. What really stood out, as I mentioned before was her customer service. After she brought out the egg salad, Esther mentioned it wasn't enough and she'd bring us a whole fresh batch when it's ready. Ten minutes later and she came back with large scoops of egg salad and asked if we wanted any refills along with it. My friend wanted a bit of rice and she got some more for him without even charging him. Esther works hard to create connections and long-time customers with her beautiful smile and energy. We are so lucky to have her here in California and here I am already planning my next trip over. FYI, the place is cash only so leave the cards at home and bring in the good ole' bills. read more

Well that's exactly how Esther's food made me feel! For lunch I wanted something clean, light and healthy so I looked on Yelp and this gem came about. Reading the reviews, ratings and menu, I was immediately convinced. I ordered the sandwhich/shake combo which consisted of a grilled chicken sandwhich, choice of a side of fruit, salad, or soup, and a smoothie of your choice. I chose a side of fruit, but I got the soup for the day which was alright because It seemed perfect for the cold rainy weather. I chose the berry cooler smoothie and it was so yummy and refreshing! The chicken sandwhich was on point. Perfectly layered with juicy marinated chicken, fresh greens, and slices of tomatoes. The sprouts added to the perfect crunch and I just couldn't be any happier and satisfied with my meal. Oh and I was curious about her egg salad so I got a side of that. For $2 my God it was so worth every bite. Shoot I think you made it better than my own egg salad! Kuddos on that! For the portions you get, the prices were perfectly reasonable. For everything I paid $10 but I chose the delivery option so I paid more, but hey am I complaining? I wanted something healthy and fresh and Esther has surpassed my every expectation. I'm so glad I found Esther's New Place #34 in Old World Village, right across from Costco. So much healthier than pizza or hot dogs, and just as quick. You might have to search a bit, because the numbering system for the shops is a little goofy. It's in the middle off one of the side aisles, but across from the Ratskeller. My favorite is still Esther's Combo, but the egg salad, soups, and juices are a close 2nd. And for her Grand Opening this week she's giving away hugs to customers from her old location for free. She knows everyone that comes to her store and restaurant by name. And it even looks like she can predict what they will have for lunch! The food here is made fresh! The restaurant is located inside the this healthy medicine shop right next to Hard Yoga and the Post Office. There are alot of sandwiches and healthy smoothies to choose from. I got the Ester Combo. It's pretty filling and very healthy. She also had me try her famous pea soup, which is served 2x a week. Amazing! Totally homemade and not from a can! The young man that I was sitting next to told me that he comes in once a week and Ester really knows everyone and that he loves her egg salad. So I got a scoop of her egg salad to go. Esther was incredibly helpful and sweet in explaining how things work here while giving out the perfect recommendations to try as new customers. We got the Esther's special and a tuna sandwich special with the strawberry and watermelon smoothie. Everything was simple, fresh, and delicious. The worst lunch ever, totally not worth $24 for two pathetic looking so called Esther's Combos, no cilantro, no garbanzo beans at all, a few shreds of not so fresh nor tender Romaine lettuce occupied one of two side items section and half of the main entree section, then the you don't know what should we call it, " is it tuna salad?" "No, it's supposed to be "Soy-lemon ground chicken!" "OR maybe it's "What they call the side of Chinese salad?"occupied the other half of the big section, one of them is missing for sure, nothing tasted or looked like chicken at all, like finely shredded tun mixed with finely chopped carrots. I called and asked Esther, she insisted both cilantro and garbanzo beans were in there, and if I drive back, she'll make me new ones, no, I don't have time to drive 40 mins for their mistake, I also don't ever want to order anything from this place again. FYI, when you come here the sign out says "Health Food" and Esther's Place is the little, over-the-counter, bar style food place located in this Asian health food store where it's very own Esther takes care of you as soon as you take a seat. She greets everyone by name and can spot out new customers easily; the skill of wonderful customer service!! We started with shots of wheat grass, one ounce each.. freshly chopped and juice right before our eyes. I got the Esther combo and my client got a grilled chicken sandwich along with some of that veggie soup. "Oh my gosh" , "Mmmm", & "This is so good"; we're the only things that were said for the first ten minutes of receiving our food. You can tell, the food is made fresh there daily. It was satisfying and fulfilling and it left me feeling energized rather than groggy because it was actually good fuel for my body.
