I relocated from CA to Reston and needed to find a stylist fast. I wasn't sure but seeing that I had used Aveda in the past, even despite being so apprehensive because of the negative reviews, I gave it a go! I even brought it up during my first visit but Eli seemed very nice. I should have listened to my gut instinct! 1. They have been operating out of the smallest, most depressing location yet keep saying they are moving 2. The stylist I was going to, Eli, is sketchy! She works between two salons (secretly as she says) and is never consistent...if you want an appointment and make it through Et Jolie she will tell you to come to the other salon because it's cheaper. 3. This same stylist completely ghosted us. I texted her for my roots seeing you never know what salon she's working. She never responded back. This is all well and good seeing I really wasn't happy with the quality of her cut, style or color. 4. Let's talk quality and service. Never once did she listen to what I wanted. She would talk me into how she wanted it. She also never covered my grays...ever! She did a piss poor job. My cut was mediocre but when she styled my hair she would rip the shit out of it with her big roll brush (mind you I have very fine short hair) and the finished job would look horrible. I actually stopped having her even style it. 5. My husband complained too. Though he wanted to be nice to her and say ok yes, I like it...he would come home bitching because once again she didn't listen to how he wanted it. I got the worst haircut of my life, and it will be months before my hair will look attractive again. I told the hairdresser I needed a slight trim to my bob haircut, which fell several inches below my chin. Instead, the hairdresser cut my hair and bangs so short they look ridiculous. I estimate it will take at least 4 months before my hair looks normal again. The service was a completely unsatisfactory. read more

If they tell you they know how to cut curly hair. Take it with a grain of salt. It's going to take at least a year maybe 2 to get back the length I lost today. They did do a good job on the baliage though so... Go for color but if you're a curly girl going for a cut, you may want to rethink it. read more

I am grateful for Ellie and the amazing work she always does with my hair. She's quite frankly a magician. I have no concerns, only trust when Ellie does anything with my hair. She blends my color so perfectly; it's so dimensional and perfect every single time. She's honest about colors and cuts to make sure my hair looks 100% each time i.e. avoiding things due to my fine hair, suggesting techniques to lengthen time between touch ups. The science behind the formulas she uses for my blonde is beyond my comprehension - it's magic. She's also super fast! I have a lot of hair and hate sitting still for so long but she's so quick and wonderful to chat with so the time flies by. Third time was NOT a charm. First cut was promising. Second was problematic. ( no style, cut like a young boy's and very short even though I stressed I did not want to lose much length) Waited TEN weeks to grow it out so there would be something to work with. This time a complete disaster. I have short, thick hair that is very easy to cut and style - been used by more than one stylist to promote their work. My hair looks like it was cut by a four year old w kid's scissors. No continuity. Large blank spots and places where hair is just sticking straight up. NEVER had a cut this bad. "Stylist" offered to have another try to fix it (after she charged me $80 for this disaster). No way I was trusting anyone else and besides, I had almost nothing left to work with. I am new to the area and trusted the Aveda brand. Clearly not trained by Aveda nor a salon that represents Aveda customer service. I visited this salon on 01/06/24 for a basic root touch up for 2 inches of new growth. I have blonde balayage throughout the majority of my hair & dark brown roots with grays. I let the stylist, Ellie, know I was focused on only touching the roots that had grown since my last color service, specifically the grays, and to please refrain from dyeing any of the blonde pieces. I also expressed interest in considering a haircut with my service but had to think about whether I wanted to go with a trim or add more layers. The first red flag I noticed was her application technique, which was conducted haphazardly with no apparent regard for where the roots met the previously colored hair. After the application, I confirmed with her that none of the color had been applied to unnecessary parts of my hair which she confirmed. During color processing I put on my glasses which had been off for the service, & noticed that some blonde pieces had dye on them. I rushed to the bathroom but unfortunately it was so far into the processing time that the damage had already been done to some face framing blonde pieces. I let her know & she took me to the shampoo area as it was time to wash out my color. When I mentioned this concern to her she responded by calling me picky. We then went to complete the blow dry and I immediately noticed how light and warm brown the root color was. She again called me picky and said I needed to let her know now if we needed to do a second color application because she had another client after me. I said I needed to see it all dry to really examine the color in full before making a decision. The owner, Mia, came over and I expressed my dissatisfaction with how the color appeared to have turned out & they both worked on getting my hair dry. I let her know that I had not planned for more than 2 hours at the salon and would not be able to stay for a second color application. Not to mention, I was already bothered & concerned during the first application. Once my hair was dry I was able to see a stark contrast between my previous root color and new root color. Additionally, my gray hairs were also still visible. We came to the conclusion that it may be a good idea to check the color out in different lighting, so I took the mirror and stepped up to the front to see if different lighting was more forgiving; it was not. As I went to put the mirror back I saw another client sitting in the salon chair I had just been sitting in. Ellie took the next client without an apology or allowing me the opportunity to collect my belongings. I grabbed my items and went to check out. The owner advised that I could come back and have the color re-done for no charge. I noted a sign that said no refunds. I asked the owner if I came back and was still not satisfied whether a refund would be appropriate. She said she would be glad to issue a refund in that case so I paid for the service. Over the next couple of days I realized how dissatisfied I was with my experience from the application to overall lack of professionalism & decided I would rather not come back or risk additional damage to my hair. I called the owner, she was very combative and defensive during our conversation, speaking over me, not allowing me to finish my sentences at times. She ultimately caught me on a technicality because when I was in the salon I had asked if I came back and was still not satisfied whether a refund would be appropriate. She said if I did not come back and allow the opportunity to correct the service that she would not issue a refund. I let her know my concerns went well beyond just the lack of satisfaction with the service and also included feeling disrespected during my visit, and for these reasons I would not be coming back. I said that I was calling to express my concerns and offer her the opportunity to make it right by offering a refund. She still said no she would not. I let her know with full transparency that I would write a review and she asked if that was a threat. I said no I am being transparent like I stated. No refund was issued. read more

I just had my first visit to this salon. My stylist Samra was absolutely wonderful. She was a real professional and was nice, patient, creative, and very good with communicating with me whose English is not perfect and who didn't know how to talk about hair stuff clearly but she listened so well and did exactly what I wanted! I definitely recommend Samra!! BTW I'm Japanese and very picky about beauty salon because I've been spoiled by Japanese standard of salon quality and services. Right now this salon is at the temporary place so I can't judge the facility well, but I'm hoping its new location at the Midtown Condominium will be great. I'm looking forward to that. I went to Aveda (used to be Jouvence Aveda, now is Et Jolie Aveda) for several years to get highlights done with Leanna who was wonderful and then went back to my natural color for a while. I decided to go back to Aveda after 2 years yesterday for a summer look and had a different stylist, Ellie, who was also amazing! She did highlights, shadow rooting, and a haircut to make it look natural and ready for summer. Thanks Ellie I will definitely be back to see Ellie at Aveda. read more
