How this place isn't 5/5 blows my mind. Stan and Negal were AMAZING. Everyone was incredibly safe and distanced. They had dividers up everywhere. Our utensils were sterilized and wrapped in plastic until use. The FOOD was to die for. Made with love for sure. The Chef is the owner. The staff could not say enough good things about him, which made me happy to hear that he treats his staff well. The food was beautiful. We had the Yellowtail Tartare, soup of the day, and warm goat cheese salad. We had the sausage and sole for dinner. Lastly we had the special dessert. My family and I had an absolutely wonderful dinner here this past weekend. Had to dock a star because the tables in the back are too tight, making for lots of awkward comings and goings of patrons. But truly, that is the only negative thing I would say about the experience. The menu is stellar, and it was incredibly tough to pick something to eat. Ultimately everyone was very pleased with their dishes. Highlights included the grilled octopus special (covered in BBQ sauce - don't knock it 'til you try it), the beef stew, and their award-winning mussels, which were so plump and flavorful. Fries were to perfection. Even the water glasses were pleasurable. Go for the Merveilleux dessert. It's so light and fluffy. Next time, I'd ask to be sat in the front dining room instead of in the back. read more

Last night: Their duck confit is the best I've had in the city-- or outside of france. It also traveled really well for delivery. They have other delivery March 2020: They r open during COVID19 daytime and evening hours, even Monday! Got a Latte-- they'll make you espresso drinks and have fantastic gourmet pantry items and a large mix of Belgian Beers. We threw a birthday luncheon for almost 30 people at Et Voila and it was absolutely lovely! We offered a choice of omelet, Croque Monsieur or Burger. Rave reviews by one and all. Meals were served with a delicious side salad and mouthwatering Belgian style fries. The profiteroles for dessert were delectable - light and delicious. But the most accolades are reserved for the staff. Chloe and Marvin and El Hamesh were subtle but attentive and so very helpful during planning, setup and throughout the event. Et Voila opened in 2008 in the Palisades neighborhood serving French Belgian food for brunch, lunch, and dinner. When you enter the space, it's clear you've stumbled upon a neighborhood joint. It's always full with familiar faces. The space itself is intentionally a little more cramped. There's a bar in the very front of the house next to a small European market selling goods like jams and cheeses. There are two narrow dining rooms with tables closer together to encourage community. Despite the close quarters, you don't feel on top of anyone or in the way of service happening. The menu itself is large and the service impeccable. Your server is a great resource about the daily specials and what wine should be paired with what dish. They also have cocktails, and of course, beer. In terms of food, it's all local and fresh. The Amish from Pennsylvania bring in vegetables and herbs and the mussels are flown in from Maine every morning. To start, we ordered a delicious warm goat cheese salad and French onion soup. For our main, my wife ordered the moules mariniere mussels and I the hamburger. Both came with French fries. For dessert, my wife ordered the pavlova and I the chocolate waffles. Everything was phenomenal and fresh. If you love Belgian French food, run to Et Voila. It's well worth your time! read more

I get the feeling they get so much business because of their reputation and they are Belgian/French that they forgot to make an effort, or don't need to. My Et Voila burger had no flavor at all. Ceasar salad was good. our friends were sick so couldn't join us, and Open Table somehow thought we didn't show up at all. Lovely restaurant, but a bit noisy to be able to hold a conversation. Nice Magritte artwork on walls, wait staff were indifferent to us, lady server with tattoos literally threw the take out box onto our table. I asked for the check which took ages, so when she brought over, I asked if she could wait and immediately gave her my cc because we didn't want to wait another half an hour for it, she seemed angry at this. So disappointed. The service was good and it was a cozy place, but the mussels were almost tasteless; the broth was very watery and barely had any flavor. The French fries were thick and not super hot--not at all what you'd expect from a French bistro. And finally, the Caesar salad was something you would make at home. The mussels were comically small, the service was unaccommodating and uncaring (yes, it was our fault that we ordered our fries crispy and they came out halfway into eating our mussels; the kitchen could never have been asked to time it, the waitress told us). My wife and I came here for the first time tonight to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. They were VERY busy but the general manager Sylvian took the time to give us an amazing experience. The management gets it. When we showed up at 730 PM, we were told that our table would be delayed. Then they poured a flute of white sparkling wine for each of our party. In addition to pacifying us, they allowed an unhurried experience for their first seating. Win,win. My wife had the endive salad. It had blue cheese, pecans, and gala apples. There was not enough endive to allow the bitter leaves to stand up to the intense cheese flavor. I had onion soup which was pretty good, but a little salty as this dish often is. For entrees, my wife had the branzino. It was nicely prepared. I had the lamb and pasta stew. This was a hearty, filling option with a well developed sauce, and very tender meat. The maitre'd was nowhere to be found when we arrived. After about ten minutes he showed up (and a line out the door had gathered). He did not say hello, basically said nothing, and bruskly showed us to the back room and a table by the bathrooms. Being a couple feet from people going in and out of the bathroom was unpleasant. A screen, curtain, or something to provide some kind of division would be good. Or don't put a table right there. We waited 15 mins and finally had to ask a server for a waiter. He was very good once he came. The beet salad was bland and tasteless, and had virtually no grapefruit or cheese to improve the taste. Basically a bowl of plain beets. Our entrees were all very good. It has become a super popular restaurant in an area where there are very many. They need to make sure customer service doesn't slip even when they're busy. read more

Some of the best food in town comes from this long running neighborhood boutique restaurant helmed by the legendary Chef Claudio and Chef Alex. Et Voila is very good. It's also quite expensive, we probably could have gone to an area Michelin-starred restaurant for the same cost. Two starters, two entrees, and four cocktails (no dessert) ran around $250 after tax and tip. But that's not to say it was bad by any means. In fact we loved everything we ate, the New Year's Eve beef stroganoff special was amazing and the mushroom cream sauce was deliciously rich, the hangar steak was cooked to perfection and the green peppercorn sauce was something I hadn't had before. I highly recommend the goat cheese salad as well, I particularly enjoyed the shallots sprinkled throughout. The house cocktails were also good and they are generous on the booze pours. In all the food was very good, and the service was pretty good (I'm giving them some leeway for it being New Year's Eve and them having a thousand carryout orders). I'm not sure if this was due to the busy carryout or just their normal pace, but I think they spaced out the courses perfectly. We didn't feel rushed at all nor did we feel like we were waiting too long for items to come. Nothing's worse than having just finished your appetizer and your entree shows up seconds later. Very much appreciated what felt like a European style way of a nice, slow dining experience. This is definitely an "occasion" place given the price, but I wouldn't hesitate to return because the food was so good. Whereas Le Diplomate, another favorite of ours, is a bit more "new" French cuisine, Et Voila is more traditional French fare. All in all a great place! read more

Granted, it has been a couple of years since we've dined here. The renovations look nice. I used to have been very fond of the food here and used to find it very authentic. Today, we left underwhelmed. Service is fine at this price point. Plates cleared; orders delivered correctly; and water & bread refreshed. To be fair, we had a very fresh sea bass tartare starter and was the strongest course. We also had the lamb Cavatelli, an order of mussels provencale, a second order of frittes, Brussels sprouts, two cocktails, and a glass of wine. The total price including 20% tip was $159.00. Nothing was fatally wrong, but very little was exceptional and a little on the bland side. When we have a really good meal, we reflect on specific flavors and courses on the way home. This was not one of those meals. Maybe this was an off night for either the restaurant or us, but we are in no hurry to return. read more

First of all, this restaurant has a European charm inside. That was my first impression when I stepped into this narrow and long dining room on a recent Thursday night with my friend. And even the diners looked nice and classier. The lighting seemed brighter than most other restaurants at dinner time and I thought that was good for old folks who cannot read menus in the dimmed light and/or fellow Yelpers who want to take good photos of food. :) We were seated at a small table by the wall right under a huge spoon. We had a reservation and it was a good thing because the place was packed on this Friday Eve. Our very tall male server was very nice and knowledgeable, and constantly paying attention to our table, which impressed me. We ordered and enjoyed the following: Belgian Endive Salad Bass Tartar Escargots Steamed Mussels with Lobster Bisque Vanilla Ice cream with chocolate, whipped cream and almond slices I liked everything, but especially the bass, escargots and the mussels. For a group of around 8 - 10, there is a nice high table + chairs in the back, closest to the kitchen and right by the wine cellar wall. It looked very nice. This is a more intimate and relaxing Belgian French restaurant. I will definitely come back here to try more other dishes. read more

I love Et Voila so much! I love Belgian food and I get nostalgic every time I eat real Belgian fries. Et Voila is probably my favorite Belgian restaurant in D.C. Street parking is usually available, but in the evenings there's room around the area as well. Making a reservation is definitely a good idea, since despite their expansion, the restaurant is still pretty small. I've been several times now, and everything has been absolutely delicious. Most recently, I started with a Lindemans Peach lambic. They have a decent selection of beers, a lot of bottles and then about three on tap. You should get a good Belgian beer! They also have wine and cocktails. We had a cheese platter as the appetizer, which was really nice. It came with five different types of cheese (I think my favorite was the Chimay - brie-like), cheese puffs, nuts, and dried apricots. I loved it. For my main course I had the braised lamb, which was heavenly. I adore lamb and this dish was so tender and pretty big, which was great. The cavatappi that it came with was really great in the sauce, and I loved dipping the bread that comes at the beginning of the meal into the sauce too. I also got a side of fries, because how can I possibly resist? They're really good, they have this TASTE that reminds me of the friteries in Belgium, I can't explain it. Dip them in mayo for the authentic Belgian experience. To end our meal, I had a merveilleux, which is a meringue-based dessert. Their merveilleux is raspberry and chocolate and it is incredible. So sweet and tart while being super light and fluffy. Every time I've been to Et Voila it's been stellar and I leave feeling not just full, but happy! read more

We ordered take out here tonight for fun. I was slightly disappointed that we couldn't get precooked mussels to go. One of our family members is allergic to cooking Mussels. The pate, Brussels sprouts and hanger steak were perfectly cooked. My only complaint was that the frites were cold! I ordered for 6:15 pickup and it was ready at 6 so they were cold by the time we got home. We will certainly be back but next time might eat outside at one of the new separated tables. read more

This modestly upscale restaurant still has a casual neighborhood feel. The great food and exceptional, friendly service make up for the cramped quarters. If you like classic moulles frites, it's hard to pass up the mussels marniere at Et Voila. They are excellent; but you'd be advised not to come back without exploring he rest of the menu.
