Et Voilà is one of our go-to places even during the pandemic. Their take-out operation has been well-thought out and our curbside pick-ups now have been seamless as everyone recognizes us now. :-) I remember their Mother's Day meal was wonderful, along with all the recent specials. We particularly enjoy the mussels (the best in town!), lamb stew, risotto, grilled sea-bream, steak, burgers, desserts and kids entrees. I loved tonight's sea-bream with grilled fennel! We loved the food and the first time we sat at the bar here so much we decided to come back for a full experience. Unfortunately, the service was subpar, with a server that seem uninterested in us and apparently annoyed that we were interested in ordering at our own pace even though we had ordered plenty of food and drink throughout our meal. Quite frankly, it was the rudest service we'd received in a long time in DC. I think this is more of a server issue than one with Et Voila. The food was very nice indeed--please order the es cargots and beef tartare--and we will certainly give it a second chance. But a bad experience this particular evening. read more

This is cute little cozy restaurant that could be mistaken for being a cozy French restaurant, but it's actually a Belgian restaurant, but one that serves more than just mussels and burgers--although they serve both of those and they're amazing. While they have a great wine list, they also have a great beer list featuring mostly Belgians including 3 taps of fantastic Belgian beer. I'm a huge fan of Belgian food and Belgian beer. My wife and spend our first few weeks dating with "our bar" being a small Belgian pub in Portland. There aren't very many places like that anywhere, but this one takes the whole thing and kicks it up to the next level. It's amazing. Most Belgian restaurants are actually pubs and mostly serve mussels and frites with maybe a burger. Et Voila does that, but also does so much more. The flemish beef stew is probably my favorite thing on the menu, but the mussels burger (actually a patty made up of cooke mussels), regular burger, steamed mussels, warm goat cheese salad, and all the desserts are fantastic. There's one unlisted dessert, which is an assortment of chocolates and cookies that is amazing and I always try to get. There's not much of any one thing, but they're all amazing. The service lives up to being a French-style restaurant with fantastic, attentive, knowledgeable waitstaff. The service goes beyond that though into managing the whole experience. My wife and I came in for an anniversary dinner with our 6-week-old baby and they were smart and nice enough to seat us in a back room where we were away from most of the other diners. The result is that we didn't have to worry so much every time the baby cried just a little and could pick her up and settle her. That's impressive service. read more

My favorite! I've been dining at Et Voila for years and I've never had a bad experience with anything. The Staff is very professional, the beer list is top notch, wines from all over the world, very clean dining room and the food is plentiful and very delicious. Everything is so good but I'm big on the onion soup, all the salads, mussels, killer burger, ribeye, and especially the Norwegian Sole. The desserts are some of the best in the city but the profiteroles & Alex cake are the bomb. Great brunch place as well, eggs are perfectly cooked. It's a gem all around. read more

My wife and I each ordered mussels. One in traditional sauce and one in pastis sauce. We were not impressed. Several of the muscles tasted fishy which was an indication they were not fresh. A couple of them were broken or unopened. Neither sauce was particularly flavorful. Although the first basket of bread was included, an additional basket cost $4.50 which was not revealed by the server. our server was very pleasant and efficient. The included french fries were crispy and well prepared. The daily specials did not have accompanying prices on the list. Upon inquiry, we learned the specials to be eye-popping in price. read more

We had the most amazing meal here while visiting friends in the City. The menu is exciting, the food is exceptional, and the service was good. We had a French waiter who was typically Frency and not particularly helpful or open to providing suggestions. That is a bit rough for a foodie who likes to try everybody's favorite at a new restaurant, but more so when you are trying to choose a wine from a place you have never been to 3,000 miles from where you live in another wine country. As one of our favorite restaurants to dine in, we opted to not cook for Thanksgiving and reserved our meal. This was a first for our family but it won't be the last. The food was expertly packaged with directions for minimal final preparation. Every item was absolutely superb. We couldn't have had a better Thanksgiving meal! Excellent experience with the only drawback being our entrees arrived before we were finished with our appetizers. But we overlooked that with the totality of the meal. The outdoor dining was pleasurable and our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. The appetizers of French Onion soup and foie gras were fine and the entrees of Duck Confit and Flemish Beef Stew were delicious. Dessert of Creme Brûlée (with visible vanilla beans) and Alex's cake were sinful. And, our wonderful bottle of Beaujolais was only $40! We'll be back! read more

Very unpleasant experience with consequences for me. We had a reservation for four and wanted to eat outside due to the pandemic. There were open tables near the restaurant. However, they refused to seat us at them and put us basically in the road. Very inhospitable and very uncaring. It was pretty awful as expected eating "in the road" on the black top surface. It became very hot. The service was poor. In the beginning, they rushed us however since it was a Monday night the outside was not full, so eventually they just ignored us. The WORST part was that there was a lot of standing water next to the curb behind me and I got completely eaten up by mosquitos which caused huge welts. I thought about calling the restaurant as opposed to giving a poor review, however, they were so uncaring about everything it did not even seem worth it. The food was ok, certainly not memorable. We will never go back due to the uncaring attitude when I first asked to move. Also, I do hope they read this review and spray or do something about the mosquitos so another patron does not suffer with 40 or so mosquito bites ( really at least 40 on arms, back, around ankles and a few on my neck. It's unfortunate that the chef can dictate how you will have your dinner. The waiter said the chef would not cook my lamb order the way I wanted it. My question is, why ask me, then tell me the chef will not make it to my liking. What happened to the customer is always right. If I was alone I would have walked out, but I stay for the benefit of the party, what a waste of my time. The waiter made a joke about my dinner that I didn't appreciate. This one-star review is based solely on the "service" received from the hostess and woman at the bar last night. We walked in - nicely dressed, no reservation (had never been there before) - at 6PM and asked if we could get a table. We were told by the rude hostess (RH) "no table with no reservation". Bartender says we can sit at the bar (there is no mention of the fact that we could have sat outside, which we learned an hour later from people sitting outside without a reservation). RH then said "you can have table if you are out by 7". Well... how about THAT???? Sorry, if I want to be treated rudely in a restaurant, I'll just go back to France. read more

Well the food was pretty tasty, with well-apportioned sizes to appease my hungry palate. Anyway, our server was pretty funny, so that added on about 1/2 a star. Food-wise, they were offering the sweet potato soup mid-summer which always entices me because I love sweet potato soups. Solid. I'd certainly go back. Seated us when we arrived, a couple minutes early for our Saturday night 8pm reservation. Off to a good start. The waitress wasn't the most engaging, but it was a busy Saturday night. It's a small restaurant and they get it packed, so being a little entertaining might be appreciated. The bread on the table was good, nothing special. The first course, I got the baked ham (with endive, gruyere, and béchamel) was almost fondue. Get this. Share it, because your belly won't appreciate the extra roll. Good.. and you will ask for more bread! Our entrees came out just a few minutes into tucking into our appetizers. We sent them back. Communication error. Come'on, that's pretty basic. We weren't eating slowly at all. I didn't get the impression they were rushing us, just poor communication. The scallops were awesome. The accompanying sauces & mouse were good. That said, the portion size was small in comparison to others. The Duck entrée was great. Very flavorful, although perhaps a touch dry. I had a solid experience at Et Voila recently. It's located in the classy Palisades neighborhood. I'd been to France and Belgium several years ago and was looking forward to some good French and Belgian cuisine. We visited as a party of 5 and had reservations. We did have to wait about 10 minutes for the table to open up, but it wasn't a bad wait. Service throughout our meal was efficient and attentive, so the wait wasn't a bad thing and I understood, since seating was limited in this cute little bistro. This place is a bit crammed (and was surprisingly very bustling on a Tuesday evening at 8pm) and seating for a party of 5 can be pretty tight. Some of our party sat elbow-to-elbow. The food was good! Generous portions and good dish choices. I ordered: -"Salad d'Endives Belge" - this was a Belgian endive salad, which came with: endives, pecans, sliced gala apples, and blue and Chimay cheese. I liked the creativity of this dish and those pecans and that cheese paired very well together, but I wasn't a big fan of the endives (it tasted too bitter at times). -"Casseroles de moule, pommes frites" - this was the mussel pot dish and it came with a heaping generous portion! So many mussels - the mussel pot really seemed endless, but we all somehow managed to finish it all. You have the choice of sauce and garnish for the mussels and I went with the Moules Marinieres (which came with a white garlic sauce). I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce (it was a bit plain), but I know my dining companions went with other sauces and truly enjoyed theirs. Next time I visit, I think I'll order the Moules Diable (with lobster bisque and tomatoes) instead. I'm pretty sure that sauce would be amazing. The mussels came with crispy fries (and I loved those!) -"Profiteroles, Glace vanilla, sauce Chocolat" - the Profiteroles came with vanilla ice cream and a chocolate sauce drizzled on top. I don't like chocolate, so I appreciated that they didn't put chocolate on mine. I enjoyed the vanilla ice cream and profiteroles, though. I was so full from the mussels that I could hardly finish my dessert. We also ordered a bottle of wine to share (a Pinot Blanc, I believe) and it paired well with the seafood dishes we ordered. Parking is a bit tight - I anticipated that there would be little to no parking in the area and decided to get a ride to the restaurant instead (cabbing there is really your only other viable easy option, especially since the Palisades neighborhood is so far from any metro station and buses would take quite a while). Overall, solid dinner spot! Good food and good company - I had an excellent time. I would certainly visit again for more of those delicious mussels. read more

There's a reason why, when we dined for brunch, that all we heard were foreign languages or accents. This place is legit cuisine in a charming setting. For Covid, there were excellent barriers between tables, and the silverware and glasses were nicely wrapped. Service was quick and, most of call, kind and got everything correct!! read more

I am reviewing this place for brunch. It was my second visit, and we had reservations: FOOD: Yummy, but typical Belgian-French cooking (use of butter and salt). My recommendations are: Burger de Moules, yes, the Mussels Burger. I was delicious, but greasy. And the Belgian Waffle with fresh strawberries to finish. SERVICE: The concierge is always nice, and the staff is very attentive. Our waiter was not the most helpful or congenial - when we asked, "what do you recommend?," he replied, "Everything is good here." Even after narrowing down to a few options, the waiter still repeated that "Everything is good here." I don't think he smiled once during the entire time. He was not rude (like a waiter I had at Bistro Lepic), just probably succinct because the place was packed. BUT, OVERALL, the service is very good because the staff was very attentive (I think I had 5 refills of coffee). ATMOSPHERE: A much more mature crowd. With the exception of on Father and young daughter, the rest of the place was pretty baby-boomer. PRICE: For the food quality, cute atmosphere and Palisades location, I think the prices are reasonable. OVERALL: Great place for a nice brunch. read more

Tried to celebrate a birthday tonight. Arrived for our 7p reservation, food was served quickly, and when we declined dessert, the bill came quickly with a request to vacate the table at 8:30p -- we did, but it was something of a turnoff. I get people are waiting-- and I would have appreciated a table had I been waiting-- and I get that restaurants need to make money to stay in business-- but it was sad because we spent good money and had no prior notice of a timed meal. We won't be going back if they continue to rush diners. Too bad because we live nearby, the food was delicious (Flemish beef stew, mussels, trout, endive salad, Belgian fries, wine by the bottle-- I would normally have recommended all of the above). It's one of these Sundays when we hadn't made any plans but felt that a brunch would be nice to have. So remembered this place from a recent list in the WPost of recommended brunch places in DC so decided to go there. It's a neighborhood restaurant in the Palisades area, not metro accessible but if you drive there is off street parking. The restaurant has a small, unassuming facade, and pleasant, contemporary decor. There is a bar area in front with a few high tables. Dining area in the back is divided, right side is long and narrow, left side has a squarish room that can be closed off for private events - which today had a party of about 15 - and the kitchen plus another dining section in back. We were seated in the narrow dining room at a two top along one wall, with a view of the private room through a window. A nice space as I generally dread being seated at two tops that are set in a tight parallel row like the banquettes on the other side. The place was quite full by 12:30 pm and had a nice, happy atmosphere. The menu had a number of egg dishes - we tried the eggs Benedict with salmon, and eggs gratin bechamel, both came with a very fresh salad and were well prepared and tasty, the gratin was interesting as I'd never had it before, with a layer of sliced hard boiled eggs. The desserts were disappointing for me - would have been good if they had at least some kind of cake. That aside, this place is a good find, for everyday dining as well as small group functions. read more

Came in for a light affair and well worth the pit stop. I enjoyed every moment so I didn't feel like I was raped except the part where I got bitten on the wrist and shoulder. I guess that happens when I'm hanging near the door. Nice stringy cheese on the French Onion Soup which was not too salty. Nice blend of flavor. Mussels in Garlic Wine sauce was also nicely blended. Cooked to perfection with a sauce that compliments very well - subtle and not overpowering. Decor is modern/contemporary with a friendly staff. The bar, however, is rather small - only 3 seats. Definitely would have to make reservations here for dining room seating. read more

What I liked about my time in Et Voila was that it was more then just about food. Our group took a long time to enjoy the meal and socialize (about 80 minutes) but most of the people around us, who were there already, stayed after us - what was the hurry, their stomachs were pleasantly full? The salad dressing was so light that my shiny greens disappeared from my plate very fast. Hot bread and quality french fries can only make you happier. Beer choices are many and I enjoyed my Duvel Belgian beer. The best part were the mussels in white wine and garlic. I asked for more bread saying," May I please get more bread to deep it in this delicious sauce?" The answer was delivered with a smile," Of course, that is the best part!" That was a meal by itself, good to share with a friend. You have to take your time here and eat slowly and have long conversations with the friends. Isn't that what the friendship is about? I had the pleasure of having chicken breast with penne in pesto sauce. It was soooo good! Et Voila catered for Sibley health care workers last week, and I was amazed at how wonderful the meal was. I heard mostly good things about this place so I was looking forward to a nice dinner with friends. We were a party of five. First, they sat us near the kitchen. "Fine," we thought. We just didn't realize how noisy that kitchen is and how the waiters are literally running in and out. Second, the waiters are OK but again, we felt rushed all the time. They would just drop items at our table and the moment we put the forks done, our plates would disappear. Even if we were not finished. Third, I felt that their beef stews were too harsh. Now I have good teeth but darn, I hard trouble chewing each piece. Fourth, you probably shouldn't call regular McDonalds-type fries as "frites." And you certainly don't serve them with "Hermann's" as your mayo. The only reason why this place is getting two stars from me at ALL are the divine deserts they had. Chocolate mousse was perfect and so were the profiteroles that my friends had. To sum up: I doubt I will go back to this place and won't bring my friends here. I don't like when the hostess or waiters give me stink eyes for going over the menu in detail. I also don't like to be rushed with my food. An excellent takeout experience, from pickup to the dessert!! Everything was outstanding. We were celebrating a birthday/belated Mothers Day, and it was perfect. We had the cheese platter/gougeres as a starter over drinks, then the endive salad as a first course and salmon w/lentils as the main, finishing with the floating island. Everything was excellent. And as an aside, I love how they offer family style options for four. I have never understood why more places don't have this option. It's hugely annoying to have so many plastic containers. Et Voila packaged each course in large foil trays, with sauces and dressings in separate smaller containers, making serving easier (and better for the environment too). I used to love this place but my recent family dinner was a big disappointment. The french onion soup was awful, the steak was super chewy and flavorless, but worst of all our server was inattentive and rude. When we asked if they could add strawberries to our desert he flat out said "no" and after we pressed him a bit he rudely said "well we are going to charge you extra!!" Which was fine to begin with. He also worked the bar so I don't recommend eating at a high top table, you wont get good service. read more

They seated us in a back room where we had space to ourselves and wouldn't bother other customers, which was perfect.
