Picked up some items for pick up. Easy pick up and it seemed like a very intimate restaurant. Nice vibe. The parking was pretty scarce though. Street parking is available, but when I went there were a lot of uber drivers going to some other places close by. Some even trapped me in, so if you're looking for a quick stop, just throw on your hazards. I ordered three pastas. The cacio y pepe was tasty but honestly not my favorite. It was very creamy and cheesy but felt a bit short lived for the price. The lobster ravioli was also good, but felt small for the high price tag. The brisket parppadelle was sooo good! I think price point wise, this was worth it. Honestly, I've tried to like this place so much. I live nearby and I've given this a number of tries. Today was just not it and I won't be back. They just don't seem to care. For instance, the food is really just uninspired given the prices. It's just *okay* but nothing to write home about. It's the service that's painful and I feel bad saying that. I do think that people try their best, but they critically understaff this place. The one poor server had the ENTIRE restaurant (bar, floor, outside) to deal with. I ordered the halibut and my hubby had the mushroom pizza...we were both very pleased! The halibut was lightly seasoned and yet so tasty and cooked perfectly. The pizza had just the right amount of truffle oil and a slight sweet taste. The pizza was pretty expensive for the size ($24) so that was the only negative. I've always had a great experience here until tonight. In my reservation I stated it was our anniversary and to please seat is away from the kitchen. They sat us next to the kitchen until we complained and never recognized our anniversary. Our server forgot our appetizer and brought the entree out. We canceled the appetizer. Then the cheese on top of the lasagna was so well done o had to use a knife to cut it. Then the server let us sit for 15 minutes with empty drinks while she sat at the bar and chatted up two customers. I've enjoyed the U street location over the years. We came in after a long day and noticing much availability online. We walk in and the host tells us they're fully booked so I booked one of the many available times on open table at which point she's visibly embarrassed for telling me I couldn't be seated for 30 minutes for no reason. We sit at the bar to grab a snack/app and we're ignored but once the bartender did come over the attitude wasn't any better. We left our IDs in the car so I was fine to go without a drink but she walked off faster than we could order an appetizer or talk to us about anything else. Maybe be we looked young or didn't fit the demographic they assumed we wouldn't be worth the seating on a busy Friday? Ok... let me start by saying, we had no intention of coming here. We actually ended up here to pass time due to an issue with our reservation at Kappo DC just next door. We decided to come in for dessert and coffee & I can tell you, we were not disappointed. The Bomboloni was perfectly crisp on the outside with the perfect ratio of filling and the drizzle of Nutella added the perfect balance. The Pistachio Gelato was rich and creamy, yet not too heavy with just the right amount of pistachios. Oh and the cappuccino was also one of the best I've had in a long time. I finished the process of submitting materials at the German Embassy to renew my passport and needed to hastily find a coffee shop to connect for a work meeting, without enough time to get home for that. That's how I discovered Lupo Verde. It's actually a restaurant on top, and a (brandnew) coffee shop beneath it, with its own entrance (but sharing the upstairs bathroom with the restaurant). First I wasn't so convinced, thinking 'it's more like a deli'. But the longer I stayed, the more I warmed to it, and finally grew to weirdly love it. Something about the vibe, decor, music, gave it a warm, intimate, neighbourhoody, truly European flair. But not one that was forced, but that came naturally. I ordered mint tea, which was served in a charming small tea pot. It was just one single cosy experience. On my way home, I ran into one of the baristas/servers, and he also praised the management for how they treat their employees. Everything about this spot felt right! It was a bit dingy looking but nevertheless lively enough. There are certainly plenty of similar type establishments all over in DC and they offer great food and experiences. Let me think for example - Bistro Cacao in Capital Hill, amazing! Lupo Verde's food was not bad but because it isn't great the value is not there as it is all very overpriced for the ambiance, the food, the service, and overall experience. One of us also got an overly salted pasta that was inedible. Although the restaurant did not charge for that dish, there was nothing they could do to make up for that experience. The service was taking too long that there was no point to order another dish and have all others wait for this individual to get it and eat it. Not fun to be expecting amazing meal and ending up leaving unfulfilled and hungry. Overall not impressed with this place and will not come back. We had out of town guests and was embarrassed that this was the impression representing DC area restaurants. Our mistake for choosing. Any restaurant that makes me a specialty drink not on their menu gets 5 stars to me! I wanted to try their espresso martini, but realized it was at their sister restaurant. They went ahead and made it for me anyway, and I am not lying when I say it was the best I have had! Kudos to the bartender for that! It seems like quite a few tables around us had the same idea too! - Brussels sprouts: these were roasted to perfection! The balsamic glaze was so good, and I loved how the leaves were super crispy, but the body of the sprout was cooked thoroughly. - Lamb ragu: the flavor of lamb in this sauce was *chef's kiss* and the pasta was cooked perfectly. - Spaghetti Rosa: I was surprised and impressed that the sausage wasn't salty like at a lot of places! It was so flavorful and they gave a ton of meat. - G&T: this was unfortunately the biggest letdown of the night for me, as it didn't have the strong G&T flavor I was hoping for. - Tiramisu: this is a must!! The sweet and bitter flavors were perfectly balanced, and the cake itself was so moist (sorry if u hate this word lol). * special shout-out for the complimentary bread too! This spot is perfect for a celebration for a small or large group because of its festive atmosphere throughout the year. We have dined here several times and are always blown away by the food. The managers were sitting at the bar doing work, which in my opinion creates less room for people who actually are coming in and could have been very friendly and said i could get a drink off the happy hour menu and they didn't. We had a very enjoyable lunch at Lupo Verde Osteria. We sat in the small front room by the door at a table overlooking the front patio and MacArthur Blvd. I would have liked to see the interior tables by the bar, but others in my group wanted to sit at the front. It was a comfortable space even though it was by the door. There are four tables there and it felt a bit crowded until the other table left. The food was delicious. We started with the Burrata Salada, which was wonderfully flavorful, along with the Carciofi Alla Guidia (fried artichoke), which was very good. All the entrees were excellent. Listed in order of my preference: Cacio e Pepe, Margherita Pizza, Calabrese Pizza, and Salmone. Can't go wrong with any of them. Ended with a Tiramisu, which was wonderful (isn't it always?). We had an appetizer with assorted seafood. Excellent! I had the Caprese salad with heritage tomatoes and it may be one of the best I have ever had. For entrees we had a fish dish, lasagna (2), and breaded and fried veal. Myself and a friend had lasagna. The lasagna was not traditional. There was almost no meat but a ton of cheese and pasta. On my most recent visit, my friend and I were immediately greeted upon entering the restaurant. Although the restaurant was packed, the staff quickly cleared a table for us. Our server came by to quickly offer us drinks and take our orders. Our server was also very knowledgeable about the menu and gave good recommendations. I had their special, which was a black truffle pasta. The black truffle pasta was absolutely delicious. The buttery sauce paired very well with the black truffle shavings, and the pasta was perfectly tender and filling. Furthermore, my friend, who is an avid home cook and a former restaurateur, said his dish was perfect. Overall, the service and food here is fantastic. I came for restaurant week and paid $55 for the dinner option. I selected a polpetta (regular menu price $16), lamb ragu ( regular menu price $29) and a tiramisu (retail price not disclosed). The portion of the lamb ragu was about half the regular portion, and the manager confirmed that this was the case in restaurant week. We had let the restaurant know that it's our anniversary today and they made it special. My daughters are Italian and felt right at home. I've come back multiple times for their Cacio e pepe but I went last night for dinner and service was awful. I assume they are under staffed. I saw the server twice, once to order and once to pay. She was very rushed when doing everything. She didn't even confirm our order, my husband ordered the eggplant milanese and ended up getting a lasagna. We didn't even bother complaining because the food took so long to come and we were so hungry! Even the Cacio e Pepe was a little off last night, the pasta was Al dente and yummy but lacked a little pepper flavor. The polpo is also a favorite of ours as well and it was a little over cooked and on the rubbery side. Truly one of the best dining experiences I've had to date. We came for the social brunch, which is priced at $35 for two people to enjoy a starter (we picked the house salad, which was incredibly good), two entrees, a side, and a full bottle of champagne with OJ. There were two groups of us, so we got to try out multiple entrees. The cacio e pepe was without doubt one of the most amazing pasta dishes I have had in the US. The noodles were homemade and so thick and perfectly cooked, and the sauce with the fried egg on top couldn't have been better. We also loved the carbonara and you can't miss the French toast and lemon ricotta pancakes if you're looking for something sweet. The service was attentive in letting us enjoy the multiple rounds of brunch without serving too much all at once, and kept our glasses of champagne filled throughout the meal. What was most incredible, however, was the ending of the experience. When we asked for our check, we were told that the chef was preparing something special for us, on the house. We were surprised with a tasting of their dessert menu, which included the most beautiful white chocolate apple mousse cake, chocolate truffle mousse, and panna cotta. Completely unprompted, unexpected, but just a genuinely amazing surprise for us at how generous the staff was and how dedicated they were to ensuring we left fully content and pleased. Look, just go, lol. I've been twice for dinner and I loved it both times. The servers have always been great and very knowledgeable about the menu. To me, the key to their delicious food is their fresh pasta. I believe they make most of the pasta on site. They even have a small grocery downstairs where you can purchase pasta and other things. the sauces are also great. When I got my first dish I thought it was kind of small but actually the pasta was dense, cacio e pepe, so it was very filling. The seafood pasta is also a winner. The servers have great recommendations for wine and the desserts are top notch. The doughnuts are great. On my last visit I had a white chocolate mouse with caramel apples. THE DESSERT WAS ACTUALLY SHAPED LIKE AN APPLE! It was so cute, and also delicious. The location I went to was down by Georgetown. I can't wait for another visit. The three or four staff people seemed to regard the lack of customers as time to carry on personal conversations, refill supplies, and walk back-and-forth through the restaurant. It took quite a while for anyone to take my order. And even longer time to bring my salad, and even then I had to ask specifically for it. The pasta arrived, while I was still eating my salad.
