This past weekend I made my 2nd visit to Ethyl & Tank. The first visit was around happy hour where I got a few drinks and some tacos. This first visit I received my food in a timely manner but I had finished my food before my friend received hers. Our server put in her food but the kitchen never made it. But they didn't notice that it had been excessively long time before she said something about not receiving her food. They did take her meal off for the wait. Now this time we went in for brunch. Again service was decent not great. We ordered the tank mimosas. The drink seemed pretty worth the money but we didn't feel a buzz after finishing. I ordered the tater to skillet. It looked like a small amount of food but the tots were pretty filling so I didn't finish my food. I felt like there could have been a little more flavor to the tots. Made add in some grilled peppers or something? My friend had an issue with her food and let the kitchen take it away after a few bites. The manager didn't replace her meal this time. Overall I don't think I'd order food again here. Which is upsetting because there menu seems fairly promising. I'll stick to their drink specials. read more

Nothing could have been a better addition to campus than Ethyl and Tank. It brings the "classy," hip, local-centric vibe of many restaurants in other parts of Columbus, you know, where those young professionals like to hang out, to an area that is wrought with your run-of-the-mill greasy food, sloppy patron, sticky floor hangouts. Don't get me wrong, every college town needs places like that, but it's nice to have an alternative once in awhile and feel a little more grown up. That's not to say E&T isn't fun. They've got free arcade games upstairs (even if you don't buy anything!), $8 32oz fishbowls (25% off for refills/25% during happy hour), PLUS all of their drinks are half off for happy hour too. They even have a Saturday happy hour, bless their hearts. The waitress and I bonded over being vegetarian by high-5ing and then she proceeded to share all of her favorite menu items, including the triple dipper which she described as life-changing. The portions were bigger than expected and very tasty. I threw in a tiny $2 veggie taco for the heck of it and it was very flavorful and packed full of goodness. And did you know Angry Orchard comes in tallboys?! Me neither, but thanks to E&T, I do now. Then I got a chai latte at their coffee bar for my drive home and it was spicier than other chais I've had, just as the barista said it would be. Monday-Friday from 3-9 PM and Saturday-Sunday 2-7. 50% off all drinks and 25% off pitchers and wine. Happy hour until 9 PM on Friday? Yes, please. 2. The food was surprisingly good. I had the Columbus Club sandwich with fries. The sandwich was great - turkey, bacon, avocado, LTO, and roasted garlic aioli on toasted wheat bread. The fries were delicious, but I couldn't finish them because the sandwich was so big. My BF enjoyed his chicken and waffle sandwich. 3. The atmosphere is laid back and casual. We went here on a Friday night, so people were a bit more dressed up for a night out, but I can see myself here for a really casual brunch on the weekend. I'll definitely be stopping by to check out the brunch menu soon. It is served until 2 PM on the weekends. read more

I came here for lunch with fellow Yelper Mike G after our original destination was found closed, shortened summer hours that the app--which will remain nameless--we use to find such info failed us. ;-) I suggested Ethyl & Tank down the block since I have yet to try it. Mike, who had already tried it, said it rated well for him. I agree with his rating. It is in a grey brick building between Pearl Alley and High, a student hub with Short North trappings, yet priced for a students budget. Especially during their long happy hour, 3-9 Monday through Friday (2-7 on Weekends), where drinks are half-off. We are talking here about crafts, not the nauseating sewer runoff that were student beers when I once haunted that stretch. They have a diverse and rare selections of novel drafts. The interior was so different from other OSU bars, even the newer ones. It is a sharp place with orange/brown chairs and stools, a checkered floor, Earthy green walls, and a line of TVs above the bar. Neon signs cast the place in a club-strobey red. It has three bars, though two were closed on the summer day we visited. There is a second story with a bar and an arcade with some vintage appeal but much lacking in noteworthy nostalgia. The place qualifies as a gastropub. I read awhile back a review questioning its difference from a bar and grill, a question I also had. The difference we discovered is a gastropub has a chef; a pub-grub has a cook. This place has a chef as we found when Mike had a problem and it was fixed perfectly by the awesome staff. Segueing into service, I was impress by the helpful and knowledgeable staff. I bet when school is in, and this place is crowded, that it drops, but when the students are gone, the staff true abilities shine through. The menu is limited and has few choices, which means each dish is specially made. A narrow offering isn't bad, it focuses attention on the products, rather than the often undisciplined motley patchwork of jack-of-all-trades that many restaurants try to be. I ordered their Cubano Panini, the only panini on menu, a pork/ham concoction with swiss, dill pickles, on Italian bread. It was good, a value for the price, with the dill pickle taste acidifying the front loaded ham. The ham and bread could had been a bit hotter; it was cooked, but the temperature was mellow. The fries were good, but not especially different than other places. All in all, it was an expertly made meal, and for the price, well done. I chased the meal down with Elevator Vic IPA, which was one of the many novel choices on draft. As for its place on the campus scene I think it is an improvement and would had love to have had an upscale but affordable gastropub there in my day. read more

I've come to terms with the fact that I'm just not a huge fan of chicken and waffles in sandwich form. That, or the two places that I've it just haven't made them taste great together. Unfortunately, the waffles here at Ethyl and Tank fell flat for me, but I actually did like the chicken by itself once I tore it apart. I could barely taste the syrup, since it didn't seem like there was much, and it was totally soaked into the waffle. I did add some of their hot sauce which made it a bit better. On the other hand, my girlfriend's Columbus Club was pretty tasty and she really loved it. Both sandwiches come in pretty big portions, and their fries are actually home fries, and they give you a ton of them. They weren't seasoned all that well, so they just tasted like greased up potatoes to me. Note that if you go for lunch on a Saturday, they are serving the brunch menu, so they don't have all the sandwiches and paninis they list on the website. I'm not sure if it's like this everyday, but if you're looking for some of the entrees and other options, you'll have to wait until dinner. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was very nice and helpful in picking out options for us, and he made sure we were taken care of whenever we needed anything. The whole space itself is very wide open, and the patio would be great on a nice 70 degree day. I noticed the arcade they have upstairs but didn't take the time to go check it out. I can see myself stopping in here to try it again, especially on OSU game days, but I would bet by the time football season starts up, this place will be packed on Saturdays. read more

I had 3 drafts (that I'd normally pay $6+ for in Cincinnati) and a sandwich/basket o' fries. $17. What?!? By far the cheapest 3 beer dinner I've had in a long time!! Bells Two Hearted was $2.50!?! Wow, yeah, it's been almost a decade since I've lived in a college town. Apparently happy hour goes until 9PM, who knew? Decent pub grub and beer selection, especially for the price. Like... not even "the plate was under a heat lamp" but "at one time, the cheese was melted, but by the time I had it, it was room temperature, and lackluster. Stopped here before a concert at Newport one night with the family and we were able to find a table upstairs. Cool atmosphere and friendly staff. I came here a couple time during college and that was when they had unlimited games and I was sad to see that was gone. We came on build your own burger night so that's what we all ended up ordering. You pick everything from meat and toppings to side item add ons. It asks how many patties and we thought that was weird and only put 1. I would definitely recommend 2 because the burger patty was half the side of the bun, which made a very weird mostly bread burger. The bun and toppings were good, as well as the waffle fries, just wish the patty was bigger. Definitely a good place to grab a drink and some apps with some friends. We all got breakfast items that from the names seemed like they should be very flavorful and good. The large plates make the portions look very small and all of our meals pretty much tasted like nothing. The eggs didn't even taste like eggs. Also, biscuits and gravy is not Bisquits. It's cornbread. You get three pieces for $6..........go buy a box of jiffy for less than $1, it would be better. Confusing. There should be a disclaimer! Stick to the bar. Favorite spot to go out to on campus currently, but I must not be alone because it's always packed, which is why I give it four stars because sometimes there isn't even standing room. This get better during the summer because they do have a patio. Tacos are $2 each and are great - especially with their spicy salsa which I believe is homemade. I usually get two and am full. Happy hour is pretty impressive - everyday 'til 9pm (even on weekends!) is half off all drinks. Upon seeing good reviews, I suggested we go for dinner on Friday night. I wanted to check it out before all the students come back. It was actually busy, with what looked to be students. We joked that we are too old to hang out here, and snagged a table inside. Our server came over right away and took drink orders. She was very sweet and did a great job during our visit. They have an extended beer menu and it happened to be happy hour, yay. We ordered tacos (fish and veggie for me and pork, etc. for my husband). He also ordered a hummus plate which came with pita bread, tortilla chips, sliced carrots and celery. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the tacos. They looked good, and the toppings were good, but they were not the best. If we come back, I would try another entree. When you walk in, the coffee bar is the first thing you see. We sat within view of this, and when I checked out the menu on the wall, I was surprised by how cheap their coffee is. After eating, instead of having a second beer, I went over to order a cafe au lait with almond milk. The young lady told me she would bring it to me, and she did. We got the nachos and waffle fries, and also tried a burger, and wowww. The nachos was GIGANTIC. $8 and should be shared between three people at least. It was so big. I love how ethyl is a transformative space. I love that there's a coffee bar when you walk in, but they have a great brunch/lunch menu, as well as a great bar for people to hang out at at night. And on top of this, they even have some game machines upstairs. Overall, their brunch isn't bad. It's just your average cheesy, tater-tot-y, greasy breakfast. I do enjoy their tater tot skillet, but it's a pretty average brunch item. Their coffee is good and their mixed drinks are good too. First timer! Ate on a Saturday just missing brunch by a few minutes. I was excited to try out their food since they were fairly new. The only thing that sort of looked appetizing was the Chicken & Waffle because come on, who can really mess that up? The waitress was a little slow to come seat us but, I didn't get too mad because there was a basketball game on. Once she took our orders, we waited about 45 minutes before we finally got the food. At first sight, my food looked tasty & HUGE! But as I got closer, I saw the extremely burnt chicken a little better. I didn't exactly like the fact that my syrup was already drenched on top of my food before it was presented to me (would have preferred it on the side). When I attempted to eat my food, I couldn't cut into the chicken because it was overly cooked. Tearing pieces off and hoping there was chicken inside was a hard thing to do. Overly salty chicken, burnt to the T (seriously charred) and messy. I told the waitress that next time, she shouldn't lie and say the food is really good if she really hadn't tried it and that the cooks should lay off the salt and keep an eye on the chicken they were frying. Bouncers fail to understand balance between caution in a pandemic and totalitarian rule; HOWEVER, Mohammad (05/23/2020) has given myself and friends a reason to come back after years of patronage. Single-handedly understood the balance of customer relations and safety in the face of COVID-19 pandemic and turned a wildly unpleasant visit to the establishment into an acceptable one. Furthermore, when we tried to tip Mohammad for his reasonable problem solving in the face of extreme outside pressures, he explained that it wasn't part of his job. Instead he encouraged our group to give a bigger tip to the diligent bar staff. Bar-none one of the best local-bar employees I have encountered. If he does not receive compensation for his "never-return" to "Will-come-back" costumer conversion, the Ethyl and Tank management had truly lost sight of what it means to serve their consumer. read more

The food hasn't been memorable but the service has been good. I have heard so much about Ethyl and Tank from my Ohio state students and I had never been there until the other night. If I were much younger and truly lived in the OSU neighborhood, it would definitely be a go to without a doubt. Even though there were four of us and we were late 50s early 60s it was okay thankfully because OSU was on winter break. The happy hour drinks happy hour prices I think we're great for college kids and I enjoyed that. I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup and I would say that that grilled cheese and tomato soup would by far when over most other grilled cheese and tomato soup in the city. Have you ever been to Melt? Melt's grilled cheese doesn't compare to what I had the other night at ethyl and tank! Let's say that reading the menu at Ethyl and Tank the other night I would go to eat there when I'm on campus without questioning it...no matter my age or the crowd. He proceded to get in my face and yell at me to "walk away." He then pushed me some more, until one of my friends helped me get away. I will never come to this terrible establishment ever again. Honestly I have gone to ethyl approximately 5000 times and have had great service and food and drinks. Today we got brunch, and I spent $15 on a rib substitute of a fried chicken and biscuits meal. It was absolutely disgusting. I'll let the photos speak for themselves. Only got $3 off of my meal. :( read more

Do Not Go Here! I had a terrible experience here right around the Sunday brunch to dinner change over. Starting out on a good note, it was easy to find parking on the street around 1:30 and all the meters were free. As soon as I stepped foot in the restaurant, it all went downhill. Once inside I had to ask someone whether I needed to wait for a server or just sit at an open table, it's the latter so I found a table on the first floor and waited for my mom and sister to arrive. I had to ask for water while I was waiting as the waitress didn't even bother to ask or recommend anything. My mom and sister arrived 5 minutes later and our waitress was nowhere to be found. The restaurant was starting to clear out at this point so there was really no reason for her not to be attentive. We then saw her ringing other people out and carrying food to other tables which is understandable so we continued to patiently wait. After about 10 mins she finally came over to us and we had to ask for the dinner menus as it was closing in on 2pm and the basic "brunch" items on their menu were not going to cut it. She quickly brought those over and left us to ponder. We honestly waited for 15 minutes as our waitress walked back and forth through the restaurant passing our table every time, what she was doing the entire time is unclear. When she finally stopped walking around she began eating and drinking and laughing behind the bar. It was so unprofessional and quite frankly rude when we hadn't even ordered yet. We made up our mind to leave since we clearly were not valued customers and at that point a different waitress came over to us to ask if we wanted anything different to drink. I almost laughed in her face, we were not about to spend any money in a place with such terrible service. This is definitely a college bar with a slightly run down interior and servers that literally could not care less about doing their job. I will never recommend this place to anyone strictly based on the service as I never even got to try the food. From the looks of the menu though, you could definitely do better at any of the surrounding restaurants. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. They truly deserve it. read more

How old are you? Answer this before you go. I'm 37, and I like Ethyl and Tank, but only at the right times. In the summer when the students are gone, it's great. Relaxing vibe, not too crowded. Brunch is very good all year. The students aren't up yet and the breakfast food is delicious. There are pancakes with pulled poem for chrissakes! Other times are dicey. Afternoons and evenings during the school year are crowded with kids, and they jack up the music more. If you're in your 30s, you'll feel old and annoyed. We were there last week and couldn't have a conversation at the bar because it was too loud. Food and beer are pretty good. It's owned by A&R, so there are similarities to places like the Crest. It's not quite as good as the Crest, but it's cheaper too, so it evens out. Pretty decent beer list at all times. Worth going, but maybe try it for brunch first or wait until summer if you're older than your mid 20s. read more

Ethyl & Tank seriously is the dirtiest food and beverage facility I've ever been to. I got roped into joining some co-workers for brunch here recently. There are putrid smells in this place. We had to move tables because our first selection smelled like vomit. Everything is sticky--tables, menus, seats, etc. Service was super scattered and disorganized. I counted at least nine servers, plus two bartenders. Food was lukewarm. There was a roach in the bathroom. I can't make this stuff up. There is obviously some sort of problem going on. Responsibly transitioning this place from one of the sloshiest bars on campus at 2am to a restaurant serving sober people food by morning needs major work. read more

I've been to the bar for happy hours and game days, but this review is specifically about brunch and we sat at the bar. My own meal was good - I will give them that. However, I was with three friends and we had a terrible experience overall. Two of their meals were the wrong order and the other meal was completely burnt. When we notified the bartender, she was extremely rude and acted like it was our fault and that we were a pain. She made it very clear that she didn't want to help us and didn't want to be there. There were only about five other people in the bar and the bartender was taking like 20 minutes to return to us at the bar - she wasn't helping others though, she was just leaning against the bar texting on her phone. Also, she kept forgetting to get the soda my friend ordered, and after asking about four times, my friend finally realized her soda was never coming so she went across the street to the carry out to buy a soda and bring it back over. How messed up is that for a paying customer? These are only a few of the list of complaints I have about my time at Ethyl that day and after kindly raising concerns to the bartender, she again was not at all apologetic and went on acting like it was our fault that she had to be working. I'm very disappointed I have to leave such a negative review about what is usually a fun place to be. read more
