Horrible customer service. Food was fine but other guests were extremely rude and the manager was less than helpful.

Walked in around 7 pm on a Friday night with my girlfriend and the wait was over an hour, which turned out to be an underestimate. While we waited, we stood at the bar and had a drink. The bartender was attentive and very nice. My gf enjoyed the rose on tap and my kolsch was great too. We ordered the prosciutto and burrata to start and then decided to order the pizza cotechino with egg as our entree. The prosciutto was our absolute favorite but the pizza's crust was nice and fluffy and crunchy. In my opinion, the pizza crust here was better than at ghibbelinas across the street. Overall very tasty place;tiny space though so need to get there early or later after the crowd rush to get a table. read more

We came here for dinner the other day, and sat outside. We waited a little while for anyone to bring us menus or water, but I think they assumed we were originally sitting inside and wanted to move outside because a few people had done that while we were there; but that wasn't the case. They have a few specialty cocktails, beer and wine, but they do not have vodka. We ordered bread, a bunch of the bar food items and two pizzas. The pizza took a while to come out, but everything else was out in no time. I really liked the bread and bar food items (though small portions, very tasty). I also preferred the margarita pizza to the salami pizza that we got. read more

Finally tried Etto Sunday night as it has been on my list for awhile. I had the Margherita di Bufala and my date had the Sausage and "Friarellli". We were surprised by how fast the pizzas came out, but unfortunately my pizza did not have enough cheese on it. Each slice only had one bite of cheese, then I had to finish the rest of the slice without cheese on it. We both agreed that we didn't feel stuffed after eating it though, as if we had a light meal, must be the fresh dough they use. I did find it a bit pricey for the smallish pizza. read more

A few of things that make this place such a find....A) Its small size gives you a sense that they really care about making pizza specifically for you (as oppose to some of the extra large pizza places on 14th). B) The staff is REALLY REALLY nice. They were quiet busy when we arrived. The hostess was able to grab us two seats at the bar and the gave us a recommendation for the homemade watermelon cocktail...delicious. C) They make their own vermouth. Hello! Why is good vermouth so hard to find...I have no idea. But if you like to drink it on the rocks as I do, this was quiet a treat. read more

This place gets my vote for best (and most authentic) Neopolitan-style pizza in the city. I'm so happy to have this place on 14th Street, right in my neighborhood. It's a small (cozy) place, so it can be really crowded or have long waits. But the service was good, and they have a nice wine selection, and the food is definitely worth it! read more

The combination of the friendly, welcoming atmosphere with the best drinks and Italian in the area is has made this our go to family and friend favorite. It's actually so hard to go to any of the other restaurants in DC along that street especially because even though there is usually a wait they are on top of feeding you at the bar, and making sure you're comfortable no matter what. Cat at the bar has by far the best cocktails and then the guys throwing the pizzas and making the 'on the table' are truly artists in their craft of the human palette. Fantastic find! On a business vacation, my wife, daughter and I tried two beautiful appetizers, three delicious pizzas, two scrumptious desserts and a myriad of fantastic beverages. The menu apparently changes from day to day. Several items appear to be consistent, but also daily appetizer, entrée and dessert specials compliment the base offerings. The lamb tongue salad was fresh and light, and extremely flavorful. The white, sausage and mozzarella pizza was served on what appeared to be thin, wheat crust, with just the right amount of oil. The "chocolate salami" dessert was fudgy and light all at the same time! The wine list was fairly extensive, but my favorite beverage was a double cappuccino which paired extremely well with the fudge dessert. The service was polite, knowledgeable and very accommodating. We will definitely come again the next time we are in Washington. read more

I enjoyed Etto. The location, ambience and service are all wonderful. They have outdoor seating with heat lamps which is great in the fall. They recommend sharing a few small plates and/or pizzas. They recommended the margherita, so we got that as well as the eggplant parm and the mushroom dish. The mushroom dish is a cold dish but has great flavor and the eggplant was well done. The margherita was a too oily and greasy for my liking, so I wouldn't recommend it. But otherwise a great spot and some yummy wines as well! read more

This is a small pizza place that reminds me of places I used to frequent on the Lower East Side or Brooklyn. It has just homey, farm to table feel I love. They have set out on the bar appetizers and antipastas. They offer a limited selection of interesting cocktails. I had the green hat gin and tonic with watermelon. Really good! They have an interesting selection of pizzas with different topics or the standard tomato and cheese if that's your thing. The pizzas are all thin crust with a nicely charred crust. I had a delicious fennel sausage, cherry tomato and red onion one. Make sure to check the board for daily specials which are always delicious. They also have a unique selection of slightly different wines. Come here if you want something a little different, homemade and a bit eccentric unlike the more corporate Matchbox up the street! Takes me back to the old 14th Street where things were more casual and underground. read more

The food and service was amazing! Try the house cured meats and burrata cheese. The homemade bread was so good we asked for extra. The house wine went really well with the charred pizza with cheese, sardines, tomatoes, and capers. Save room for espresso and the chocolate cake. I can't wait to go back! read more

Cute, quaint little restaurant tucked away on the 14th Street Corridor. I had run past it once or twice and finally made my way inside one cold Friday night. The restaurant doesn't accept reservations, so I put my name down and was told it would be a 20 minute wait. I waited for my dinner date to get there and admired the appetizers which were on display at the bar. A glass of wine and forty minutes later, we were finally sat. By then, we were ready to order. An octopus and bean salad along with a Calabrese Salami pizza were on deck for us. Our waitress was curt and friendly enough. The food came in great time. A bit pricy, but the portions were just right. It's not the best pizza I've ever had, and definitely not the best pizza I've had in Washington, D.C. However, it is a good option if you find yourself living in the area and need a good date night spot. I am glad I've checked this spot off my ever-growing restaurant list. read more

I was really looking forward to trying this place. Unfortunately, our experience echos that of the other recent diners who weren't too thrilled. Ambiance is nice and service started well. But too many misses on the food and service to make this a place I would want to return to. We ordered 3 small plates and an insanely overpriced pizza. We had the kale salad, which tasted overwhelmingly of lemon. The "roasted" cauliflower actually tasted steamed, and it was sitting in some sort of sauce. Unfortunately we were never given bread to really appreciate the sauce, which made it hard to really get a sense of the full dish. When we asked our server about bread, she made some sort of excuse about certain appetizers coming with bread and then said that she would have brought some if we had ordered it--so keep that in mind. We were finished with the appetizers before she checked in on that. The pizza is WAY overpriced. And it came BURNED. Not charred, but burned on the edges with a raw center. We sent it back, and they made a new one, which was much better but very skimpy on the ingredients. The unburned crust was great, which I would say is the restaurant's best attribute. But as I looked around, most tables were leaving pieces of burned pizza crusts on their plates. I'm not sure who told these folks that pizza is supposed to be served like that. Weird. We found very little attention to detail. For example, after our appetizers, they cleared our plates and picked up our dirty silverware off the plates and just put it down on the table, not even on a napkin. Why not bring new sliverware, or at least leave the plates so that the knife and fork aren't on the dubiously-clean table? Again, weird. All said, there are plenty of other pizza options in the area where you'll get better food, better service, and a better deal. I have no idea why this place has gotten such great reviews. Maybe it was just an off night, but other recent diners seem to echo our complaints. Too bad. read more

First off, order the SEX ON THE PLATE Spanish Iberico ham. Literally melts in your mouth. This place had a nice European atmosphere and very good, original wines. We had a bottle of the most expensive Sicilian wine you can get by the glass, and it was excellent - light, subtle, but lots of flavor. The pizza was a bit soggy, though. read more

I'd give this a 4.5 -- not a full 5 but more than a 4! After hearing about Etto from a friend who lives in San Francisco (who had read about it on a food blog), I figured we'd have to go eventually. Luckily the beautiful weather this weekend tempted us to venture to Logan Circle -- we arrived around 6:45 and were told the wait for a table for 2 would be about 35/45 minutes. We decided to wait with a drink at the bar, which was really enjoyable. It was nice to actually take our time and have a long meal - made it seem more like an experience rather than just a meal! We stood by the bar and watched the bartender and the cooks at work, which was great! We got to pick out what we wanted to order by what looked good when it was being made. The bartender was very personable and it was nice seeing the different drinks she was making also. We could have sat at the bar and eaten there - in the time we waited, different sets of seats for 2 opened up 3 times. We didn't have a problem waiting though and we kind of wanted the full experience of sitting at the table. The drinks were good - my boyfriend got wine, which was a pretty small pour for $12, but he said it was good wine. I got a cocktail for $11, which was a little bitter for my tastes but it was definitely strong. Once we were seated, we ordered a 1/2 liter of the wine on tap, which was best after sitting for a bit. Wine was definitely the way to go though as it was a perfect complement to the pizza. We got the eggplant parmesan and lamb sausage and lentils to start -- the eggplant parmesan was definitely a good choice. The eggplant was cooked perfectly and covered in cheese and a great tomato sauce. The fresh bread on the side was amazing on its own but even better covered in that tomato sauce. We made sure to clean the plate! The lamb sausage and lentils was also very good, especially if you like lentils. Both were flavored well -- it just seemed like a strange addition to the meal. It was very good though. For our main entree, we split a margherita pizza. The crust was great - thin with a perfect amount of char. We didn't have any pieces that were burnt, as others have said - just some typical charred spots like you would expect from Neapolitan pizza. There were large spots of the pizza without cheese, but that's usually how margherita pizza is. Luckily those spots were still covered in really tasty marinara sauce. I normally don't like the cheese-less spots, but I liked them just as much as the rest on this pizza due to the thin crust and great sauce. The cheese spots are still the best though :) The fresh basil on top was a nice touch as well. Although $17 is expensive for a pizza, I thought the serving was actually pretty big, and we were full with just $47 of food. Our alcohol actually cost almost as much. We also got the chocolate salami for dessert -- it was cute in that they wrapped up the chocolate fudge in thread like it was real salami. It also had nuts throughout. Although it was tasty - I don't think I'd order it again. if you like nuts and chocolate though, you'll probably like it. The service was great - from the hostess to the manager (who might've also been the owner?) Our waitress was very perky (best word I could think of - she was unusually happy) and gave good recommendations. She and the rest of the staff (including the manager) did a great job keeping our water refilled and taking away plates. They also replaced napkins and utensils after each course, which was a very nice touch. Overall, we had a great experience at Etto. I think it can be pricey depending on what you get, but it doesn't have to be. The food is great and the atmosphere is charming. read more

Bad service. In a hurry, we dropped by Etto and asked for a table, letting the host know we completely understood if nothing was available. We were told we would get a specific table (with 2 people sitting at it who had just paid their check) so we waited for around ten minutes. Then, the host told us they decided to give the table they had just promised us to another group, of 4 - we would have to wait until another table was available (whether that table was a four seater or a two seater). We have been long time customers of 2 Amys and have supported their businesses. We definitely will not be back. read more

A bit cramped without much of a bar area, but they have a unique selection of Italian and foreign beers - many that I hadn't tried before. The patio offers a nice place to eat. It's on the quiet side of the street, and is shaded. Giant umbrellas (and I mean giant) give awesome shade and cover from any glare. These are the pluses. The minuses are many. The food is so "meh" and overpriced for the under sophistication. I have had better and more interesting dishes from my pre-teen nephew. If you like to savor drinks, this might be a place to go. Otherwise---head elsewhere for a dining experience that will delight your tastebuds. read more

After reading great reviews and seeing this place on a yahoo article as one of the best pizza places in the country, I decided to give it a shot. Upon entering the restaurant, there were only two tables left, one that seated four and one that seated two. Although we were only a party of two, I asked to have the table with four chairs as the other table was right smack in the middle of two other tables and literally was right on top of other people. The hostess made a stink about it and gave us a bit of an attitude b/c we wanted the larger table; she was not at all accommodating. We started off with the 24 month aged prosciutto. The slices were fatty and surprisingly tough. For the main course, we got the caprese pizza. The dough seemed undercooked and there was no substance to the pizza whatsoever. Food was nothing special at all and, quite honestly, go with papa johns if your feeling a pizza night. Price was pretty outrageous for what was essentially a small/medium pizza. read more

Etto - somehow the spirit of DC has thoroughly invested itself within the 10-table dining room. Let me set the scene: it's 89 degrees, 85% humidity, we're walking down the street reminiscing about the time we walked 5 miles to our hotel in Las Vegas on a hot summer day. We come up to Etto, it looks pretty busy; filled to the brim with thick-framed-glasses/muli-colored-slack-wearing/fedora-clad DC individuals, aggressively representing the under-present minority of hipsters. We proceeded to wait at the bar. The bar - We have a couple drinks at the bar. You can tell this place is kind of edgy because they say they have 'wines on tap' and they only serve a few different micro-brews. There was also a punch bowl of some super expensive concoction one of us decided to spend their entire paycheck on. 11 dollars for about 5oz of an imported wine mixed with pureed watermelon and a few other needless ingredients that didn't even show up on the pallet. I decide to go for some 'bar snacks' while at the bar, however they were out of everything except 'prosciutto and melon'. I'll go for some of that. Turns out to be literally that, no special anything, prosciutto tastes like all other prosciutto's I've had in the past. I didn't even receive the toothpick of meat and melon until after they found us a table an hour later. At least the atmosphere is kind of nice sans hipsters. (5/10) for actually getting a drink in. The food - the ONLY reason we were here was to snag some sort of delicious pizza we had heard about from other reviews. I take that back, we were seeking to compare some 'Good' pizza to my friend's homemade pie. My friend makes a mean margherita. We're impressed by the wood-fired oven and order a margherita and the special artichoke/pecorino/anchovy/caper/prosciutto pizza to start. Pizzas arrive about 30 minutes later as I sit there completely sober due. You would think with 10 tables everyone would have their own servers. The margherita looked like a margherita, though with a little less cheese than would be desired and a bit too salty for me (which was ok, since I had my eyes on the artichoke). The artichoke pizza had elements I like and was also over seasoned with salt. It was like the only seasoning the chef knew to use was salt. Artichoke alone is very bland, salt IS required. Pecorino is salty. Prosciutto is salty. Pickled capers are salty. Anchovies are salty. The marinara was salty. All I could taste was salt. Everything was overpowered by salt. The only positives were the elements of wood-fired pizza and the decision that we would not be ordering additional over priced pizzas tonight. (3/10) at least you tried. Overall, I don't think I had a good taste of Etto (all of the other food beyond the pizzas looked appetizing and I wish to sample everything), but I can definitely say pizza just isn't their thing. I'm sure there are plenty of scarf-wrapped art students and tight-panted journalists out there who wholeheartedly believe the man wearing a beard and sweater-vest is pulling out wood-fired authenticity from that oven, but I'll keep my hundred bucks and drink wine from a tap at my friend's wood-oven-less house. read more

We came to Etto for a birthday dinner for my father in law, were big Two Amy's fans so decided to check this out. Not sure if this is normal for DC but there were 7 of us on a Sunday night around 7 pm and they got us in right away, no wait! Food was delicious as were their cocktails. Between the 7 of us we had a strong sampling of their menu and I would say it's hard to go wrong at this place. To note, if you're there say on a date you could definitely order heavy starters and split a pizza. Pizza size is quite generous (not a bad thing). And of course it's in a great neighborhood.
