Eureka is one of my favorite burger places, but my last visit was traumatizing. We ordered 3 burgers and one of the burgers had a hair embedded in the bun! It was a small clump of hair. I don't know how that could've happened. Luckily I caught it before my mom's boyfriend took a bite. Very disappointed. I've been a loyal customer of this restaurant for a long time, and I've always enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, one negative incident that I had nothing to do with has led to me being treated unfairly ever since. About a year ago, a group of people who work at my company came in on their own time, got very intoxicated, and caused a scene. I wasn't there, I didn't sponsor it, and I had no involvement. Yet ever since then, I've been treated as if I'm responsible. Every time I've come back and spoken with the manager, she's been understanding, professional, and respectful -- she recognized I wasn't at fault and welcomed me back. However, the bartender has consistently been extremely hostile, giving me attitude, whispering to others, and making me feel unwelcome. On multiple occasions, he's spoken to me in an aggressive tone, almost as if trying to provoke a reaction. He acts as though he owns the place, even telling me I was banned when the manager had already made it clear I was allowed to be there. This happened a year ago, and he still can't seem to let it go. The reality is, that night could've had serious consequences for anyone -- DUIs, accidents, or worse. But that responsibility doesn't fall on me, nor should I continue to be treated like it does. This kind of behavior creates a negative and uncomfortable atmosphere for paying customers. Saturday afternoon, not too busy. Friendly staff. Gave us a small plate of carrots and oranges for our little one to munch on while we waited. Good music, not too loud outside. Hubby got the Napa chicken sandwich. It had good flavor but the bread to sandwich ratio was off. The chicken portion was pretty small. I shared the fish and chips with our kiddo since he's still too young for a full kids meal. He really liked both but I was disappointed in the small portion of fish. Honestly the 3 pieces could've been for a kids meal. None of us cared for the tartar sauce.... Would've preferred just a simple basic sauce. Will we return? Possibly. Not recommended if you have allergies. Went here with a dairy allergy and confirmed 5x with my waitress that the wings did not have dairy. She seemed annoyed but I understood it was an inconvenience to check all the ingredients. She came back saying all the wing flavors were dairy free. I thanked her and ate the wings. Hi, so don't get me wrong, I love Eureka restaurants wherever I find them. This one clearly has a scheduling or staffing issue.... Ambiance: the place is cool and trendy like all the other Eurekas. It had a cool indoor/outdoor bar and a good amount of seating 5/5 SERVICE: I could tell right away the staff here was under some pressure. Not too friendly of a greeting, but they took my name pretty quick. I was told the wait was 45 minutes. (Also there was a hockey game playing that night so could be why it was extra busy and the wait time....but that was not a secret, and still should be staffed to handle). The bartenders were so busy they never looked up....it took me most of that 45 minute wait to finally get a drink....again not too friendly and they forgot my "rocks" for my whiskey on the rocks.....yes I had to get their attention again....ugh. 2/5 We were seated around the 45 minutes, so good job on the estimate and we ordered right away. Our server "Areli" was great, very friendly and attentive and helped us get more drinks (She brought the stars back up) now 3/5 FOOD: I'll start with the drinks (or lack thereof) wine and whiskey tasted great and I added an old fashioned which was yummy. I had the salmon kale Caesar salad (which I highly recommend) And my wife had the steak salad....also super tasty. 5/5 This would have been an overall 3/5 because of initial service but don't ever underestimate the ability for one good server to recover the situation. Came back here since we were a little early for the Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias comedy show. This place was packed!! There 6 people everywhere!! They gave us a 30 min wait time, but we ended up waiting maybe 10 minutes. We were seated outside. But it was nice they had heat lamps all over the place. Really kept us warm. There's only 2 single restrooms for both men and women, with over 200 people here. The line for the restroom was longer than the line to get into the comedy show. Fortunately, you can use the bathrooms next door at the hotel, which is nice but inconvenient. Took some time for our waiter to get to us. Granted he was super busy. Brought all our drinks at different times and had to be reminded to bring one of the drinks. Show started at 7pm. We were seated at 605pm. Didn't order till 620pm. Fortunately got our food at 645pm. Wolfed it down. Paid our bill. Ran across the street and was still able to make it in time. So service was pretty fast considering how busy they were that night. I ordered their fig burger. Had slight sweetness to it. It was pretty good tho. Flavors were well balanced. Patty was juicy. The parmeasean fries were amazing!! Smell of the garlic and the parmesan was awesome. Fries were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. If everything was like their parmesan fries. Hands down 5 stars!!! What wasn't a 5 star was the drink I ordered. I had their watermelon spicy Agua Fresca. It was disgustingly spicy. It was like way too much tabasco in there. I took a couple sips and was done with it. It was bad. Why was everything so SALTY! What happened to this place! The menu changed so much it used to have chicken tenders and I was able to order the bone marrow burger on any day. Ordered the Truffle fries which used to be so amazing but this time it was like they dumped a whole container of salt in it! The fried pickles and sandwich we got were also super salty. Will no longer be coming back. I will instead just go to the Claremont location instead or just stop eating at Eureka all together because everything was just so inedible. Also the shared bathroom space does worry me since the bathroom doors are very heavy and close from top to bottom (so no gap) and the music is extremely loud in the bathroom. The food was okay. The brussel sprouts could have been more crispy. The nachos were smaller in size. The fries were good though. And my lemonade was just okay. Eureka is usually one of my and my partner's go-to spots; however, we just visited yesterday and we had the worst experience. The staff were great, service was attentive and speedy, and they were all quick to assist with the issues, kindly. Now the bad part, they changed their menu. They changed their ingredients. They changed everything, and for the worse! I usually order the Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich, and it's usually perfect. The fries that first came out were cold, kind of stale, but they brought out some semi-fresh ones, but I think their new fries don't hold up the same. Now, the sandwich is way too over salted. I took one bite and I was utterly disgusted. It took about 30 mins for the salty taste to go away after drinking water and drinking a beer. I took 2 bites of my sandwich and sent it back. Upon the new sandwich coming, I took a bite and the whole recipe is different, even down to the pickles. They used to have crispy Carolina pickles, and now they have those wavy cheap pickles. Bleh! Unfortunately, they also got rid of their best salad -- steak salad. They've replaced their salads, ingredients, recipes, and unfortunately, for the bad. Corporate needs to reevaluate their changes, as they've lost a couple customers. Again, the staff was not the problem (hence, the 2 stars, I'd give the staff a 5 star review though), they were great. The restaurant was clean, per usual. If there are changes in the future, I will consider returning. Until then, thanks for the disappointment. read more
