A friend of mine went here when this place first opened and told me they were served raw chicken but I just assumed it was because the restaurant was new and still getting a handle on things. Sat outside on a glorious Boston afternoon. Nice patio with lots of shade. Started with drinks. Vodka lavender iced tea was Delicious but pricey at $15. Some issues with the menu. They didn't have want I wanted the Cuban And my friend order the tuna burger which was to be a med rare seared tuna but instead was something like chunk light tuna. Didn't get much resolution asking the waitstaff about it but it was clearly wrong. Apparently tasted ok so we moved on. I had the Cobb salad fresh and delicious but again pricey at $17. Hey it's newberry st which seems to turning more upscale than ever with lots of very high end brands moving in. Hope it doesn't lose its charm in the way to the upscale destination. read more

Honestly I was expecting so much more from this place. We came as a large group for lunch and they just cannot handle a lot of people at once for some reason I guess. We were at 3 separate tables and somehow one of the tables in our 'group' had their checks before our table even had our food out. We waited almost 40 minutes to get food and my order was wrong. We asked for the sauce on the side because my bf can't eat the ranch but it was all over the sandwich. Since it took so long we didn't want to ask for a replacement so we just asked them to take it off and thankfully they did. We also ordered the cheeseburger spring rolls which were definitely not spring rolls. My bf had a bite and started to feel sick because they definitely seemed more like an egg roll. Of course I recognize large groups are overwhelming, but I just can't see how some of the tables got food 30 minutes before ours. When we asked what was taking so long they started coming out with food saying ok well we'll just bring out what's ready. So I guess our food had been sitting there for a little while because it wasn't very hot. Other people at our table still waited at least 5 minutes. We got the fried chicken sandwich and it was very flavorless. The cheeseburger 'spring rolls' were ok, but I was expecting more spring roll. Everyone else in our group said the food was just ok, nothing great. So overall we left about 1.5 hours after we got there feeling hungry (and my bf feeling a little sick). My friend and I went here for the first time recently and everything was great. Our server was Hector, and he checked up on us often and made sure everything was perfect! Brought my wife and daughter for a nice lunch. Restaurant was not busy. I knew we were in trouble when it took 15 minutes for the server to come over after we were seated. After taking our order, the server never returned for the duration of the meal to check on us, offer refills, etc. Turns out he messed up my order and my daughter's order. Since he never returned, I had to find him to point out the mistake. 15 minutes later it still was not fixed. Had to find another staffer to help us. Finally we got the check. The food was very good, you would expect that on Newberry Street. The barbecued octopus was outstanding, the street corn tasted a little off from others we have had. The braised short ribs with gnocchi were very good, as well as the margherita pizza. We do not live in the city and happened to forget a pair of sunglasses, and called the restaurant to see if they found them because we left them on the table. The hostess said yes they were here and given to the manager; we spoke with the manager and he said no one ever gave him any sunglasses. After driving half an hour towards home we turned around, went back, and found our sunglasses in their a little bin of extra sunglasses. It's unfortunate that the manager couldn't take two minutes out of his time to look after he told us he would look then call back but we knew that wasn't going to happen by the way the conversation went. That's what brings my five stars down. I would give them 3 1/2 stars but that is not an option At the time we called, the manager, he said he was too busy to look and would call us back. Eva is the new corner restaurant that has a modern American selection; with a good ambiance and very earthy feel. Great place to dine, drink and able to have conversations without having to speak over the dining room. We came here for dinner. They have interesting cocktails selection on their menu. Some dishes are a hit or a miss, they don't skimp on their portion size especially their lamb. I don't eat lamb, but the friends I went with enjoyed it very much. The appetizers and truffle fries were good. The pig-za was not the best brick-oven pizza I had. It needed more flavor and sauce. It had enough depth. It took us an hour to get our food, half way through, our server claimed "there was a printing error" and asked what our orders were again. It shouldn't have taken you an hour to acknowledge there was an error. I genuinely think he forgot to put in the order because he was on his phone the whole time. The people next to us got their food faster. He said sorry but didn't even bother asking if we were ok on drinks, etc to makeup for it. Please find new waiters or train yours on better etiquette. Eva's offers very little for vegan options. Ordered steamed broccoli. Arrived luke warm and almost raw. Told server it was not hot and she corrected me and told me it was. Took it back and returned with a bowl of broccoli, very small pieces, that was now like a salt lick. Hard to comprehend how a restaurant cannot simply steam some broccoli. Server needs to be taught some customer relation skills as well. read more

Came here around 8pm on a Tuesday with a group of four it was pretty empty there were only 4 tables even in the restaurant seated. There was no music playing at all so it felt like we were ease dropping on the tables around us and the environment just felt awkward. The decorations were nice and it's a nice venue in general. Water was dropped 5 minutes in with barely a greeting and the server just dropped the jugs didn't even care to pour the water into the glasses -- not the water end of the world but a little weird. It then took 25 minutes for the waitress to come back even though we were looking around the whole time not sure where she was everything she came around she ignored us (probably not intentional but idk maybe pay a bit more attention?). We're college students so maybe she didn't put in any effort because she expected a low tip? Which would not have been the case as most of us have worked a day server and I always tip well. You should give everyone good service regardless. When she did finally come around she took a drink order it took 10 minutes for it to arrive. The cocktail lychee martini had a rotten lychee in it so we sent it back and got the cruel summer instead which was good but not anything special. We finally got our order in and it took another 25 minutes. When it did arrive they auctioned off the items which isn't my worst pet peeve but if the server Cara had brought them she would know who they belonged to instead of the two others that brought it out instead. I get it if it's super busy but there were literally only 4 tables sat. The food was good until there was a lobster shell inside my lobster ravioli which just put me off entirely and I couldn't finish eating. When i told the server she just said okay sorry and took the plate away, she seemed annoyed and inconvenienced. Her whole attitude the whole night was aloof and completely unapproachable and fake. She obviously did not want to be there. Which hey I get! It's a slow Tuesday night but you should never make guests feel unwelcome like that. The manager came over 10 minutes later to apologize about the lobster shell and explained that it comes like that from the supplier and that he was speaking to them right now and that he would take it off the check. Make sense okay sort of good to know it wasn't their fault. At the end of the dinner we asked for the check and i asked to speak with the manager again. The waitress was clearly annoyed and questioned why i needed to speak with him again. I wanted to let the manager know that we didn't have a good experience and explain what went wrong so they don't disappoint future customers. He was apologetic and explained they were down a server and that this wasn't the usual service to be expected. Which okay I get it but also there were 4 tables and just overall not a great excuse for the service level. He apologized again but I felt a little talked down to I'm assuming because I'm young. I was surprised he didn't encourage me to give it another try on another day or try and make up for the experience at all. Or offer a desert to go? Or remake the pasta to go? I basically left hungry and disappointed. Also the desert menu isn't on their website which is weird. Easy fix though. Overall maybe this was a one off experience but it could have been handled better overall. Too bad I live super close to this spot and was hoping it would be great. read more
