We stopped in early on a Sunday morning to kick off a long drive, and had a practically perfect southern breakfast to prepare us for the road. Delicious biscuits and sausage gravy, my partner had nothing but praise for his french toast and fried chicken, and the service was warm and welcoming. So! My wife and I tried a new place for breakfast. Well have to say I am not impressed. Talking about milking the customer?? I went order the eggs anyway, home fries not included. I asked the waitress. Waitress tells me that's extra. WTF?? My wife order the French toast meal. $11.00, so one think it would include eggs like every other breakfast joint. NOPE!! Not Eva's got charged $3.50 extra for two eggs. Personally, this place is a rip off. It's obvious there more focus on recharging customers for extras than quantity. My other favorite part of our experience, I ended up ordering a BLT. I get my meal and no mayo on my sandwich. I ask the waitress for mayo and she says there's mayo on the sandwich. Went for the first time 7/23 and it was pretty good - got there at noon and was disappointed to find they didn't serve breakfast at that time. I had heard their breakfasts were great and that's what I was looking forward to. Had the chicken pot pie and it was good. It was good but not a place I would rush back to. read more

This is a little mom and pop type restaurant in the heart of Summerville. Recently stopped in for breakfast. The staff was prompt and friendly upon greeting. A little divey but I think they're going for a down home no frills kind of vibe. The food was good, not the be all and end all of breakfast places, but not a bad place for a quick sit down bite. Service trumped the food as they were super friendly any time someone came through the door. The food was more on the basic side if the spectrum. Was trying to find a breakfast place in Summerville and went here on a whim. When we walked in we were welcomed by the hostess with a huge smile. We were promptly seated and our drinks came out super fast. The menu was not to small or not to big. There was a good mix of items from breakfast to lunch. We came during brunch and there was addition options. We ordered our food even my daughter was impressed. The food was amazing and well portioned. Stopped here for the first time for breakfast. First the good... the staff was very quick to serve us and were very friendly. Atmosphere was pleasant. Small town cafe feeling. After ordering, the food came out quick. My wife enjoyed her meal. Note for the bad...I ordered the omelet which came with toast. I had to pay extra for potatoes which I did. The toast was horrible. Not a trace of butter, cold, hard as a rock, and was given one little packet of jelly. Potatoes tasted ok but the portion was what should be considered in most restaurants to be a half portion. This wouldn't normally be the reason for leaving only two stars but when you consider we ended up playing $34 dollars for breakfast for two, it was. Would give it another try if it was reasonably priced but not for that kind of money. read more

Stopped in Summerville for a stroll around the historic town and ended up having lunch at Eva's. We were greeted with a smile upon entering and seated right away. The small menu consisted of southern style food. There was a chalkboard which had 3 daily lunch specials. My son got the fried shrimp and flounder with fries. Hubby got roast beef. I got the Momo salad with grilled chicken. Everything was amazing!! You must get the dessert. Fresh baked tarts And pies topped with ice cream. It is very rare to get service like this these days. I really miss going there :( Has been way too long since my last visit and it has to stop now! I love this cute place with the friendly ladies inside and the home cooked food!!! It's really delicious, at least that's what my pallet thinks :D The other thing which makes this place so special for me, are the regular customers that have been going to Eva's for many years! I simply feel comfortable in this kind of atmosphere, a stranger yet still welcomed amongst them. Where can you find this nowadays?! As I said, the food is home cooked and delicious and I always took and will again, an extra meal home for the next day! Now, if you are a person who doesn't know, or remember what home was like, let me tell you ... it wasn't perfect, maybe a sticky spot on the table, or on the floor and such things. This is your grandma's food. Delectable fried chicken, amazing liver and onions, roast pork, meatloaf, etc, , , ,and the sides are truly southern: collards, cabbage, greasy beans, turnips, etc, YEAST ROLLS! Oh yeah, burgers, ham sandwich, grilled cheese, fried egg sandwich. . . .all under $5 Do yourself a favor and go. They lost a star because regulars get the overdose treatment and I believe my money spends the same. Newcomers get a cold shoulder but it soon passes. read more

This place is probably my favorite breakfast place in the nation. Came here a few months ago on our honeymoon and it was amazing. Two months later, we still talk about it every time our honeymoon comes up. If you like the super trendy/modern places, this probably won't be your favorite (then again, my wife would be an exception to that.). But if you like to go where the people are genuine and the food is cooked with love, this is your place. (The place is sparkling clean too though.) The staff are the friendliest people you will find anywhere and are a big reason we came back a second time. The food is legitimately the best breakfast/brunch I've had and they bring it out pretty darn fast. I literally ordered three plates the second time because, being from Oklahoma, I knew it'd be awhile until I came back. Summerville is growing explosively. Let's hope the temptation for newer and bigger passes by stalwarts like Eva's. Overlooking the town square, Eva's is simple, direct, and authentic. This is honest cooking which doesn't need a falsely branded image or steep prices to coax us into liking it. We went in this morning in something of a rush and our server, who was genuinely cheerful and welcoming, put our order in and--voila!--before we knew it, there were the two omelettes and stone ground grits, right before us. The omelettes were hot, plump, and with fresh ingredients, tasty. We'll definitely be putting Eva's on our short list of where to eat, this is the sort of business which makes you feel at home and not simply at yet another faceless chain store. read more

Unbeatable down-home cooking. I've lived in the Summerville area most of my life and never stopped by Eva's until recently. Now I find myself constantly craving it. The highlight of their menu is certainly their wide variety of unique breakfast items, but I've never gotten a dish I didn't absolutely love. Also worth noting is that their sweet tea is, to me, the best in town. Definitely a weighty statement being that we live in the Birthplace of Sweet Tea. Customer service is also second-to-none, with prompt, friendly service and sweet tea always kept full. I brought my English friend here, who had never been to the South, to give her an idea what southern cooking was all about. She loved it and so do I. read more

I love this restaurant with its history of opening in the 1940s and still going strong! The food is great with fun servers and atmosphere. Even a picture of the original owner. I love the desserts, the best you will find. There are so many favorites including fresh cooked eggs at breakfast and the baked chicken at lunch. This is not microwaved food! From the moment my girlfriend and I came in to the moment we left we were treated with nothing less than exceptional service. They had the best coffee I have EVER had. Eva's on Main is a cute dinner like feel in the heart of Downtown Summerville. This restaurant struck me as cozy and charming when I stepped in. The hostess greeted us immediately and seated us. We had two of the Wednesday specials which was Shrimp Fried Platter with Homemade Hushpuppies and Baked Chicken with Dressing, Cranberry sauce, and made from scratch Cornbread. We ended up ordering the last entree because we saw a neighboring table's food. It looked scrumptious and we had to have it! The food came out quickly and was hot. My friend and I shared our entrees and ate every morsel. We barely could move afterwards because the portion size was that large. Needless to say we enjoyed both entrees and devoured them so quickly before getting a picture. In addition to the great, comforting food, the prices are unbelievable for the quality and quantity. Very disappointing. We were directed to Eva's by another restaurant owner, because we wanted breakfast. Unfortunately, we arrived at 10;45 and breakfast was no longer being served. Major bummer. We stayed though and had the Blt with fries. The Blt was mediocre, and the bread was stale. The fries were however hot and delicious. The service was okay, but not great. The place smelled old and stale. I'm assuming breakfast is the big deal there, and am sorry we missed it. read more

I wish I could tell your of the food was good or not at Eva's on Main but I didn't get opportunity to dine there due to an extremely rude waitress/ hostess. My family ( party of 3) went to Eva's for a meal. It was raining when we arrived. We stepped inside and when a waitress approached us she told us that there was a 15 minute wait. No problem we thought. Then the waitress told us we would have to wait outside in the rain. Note* they don't have a covered area to wait. Seems to me the logical thing would have been to seat us at one of many open tables and let us wait there until they could get to us. Nope! She was very rude and seemed like she didn't care about our business. Needless to say but I will never go back after such treatment. read more

This is a really charming restaurant, in a charming part of town, and lovely wait staff. The restaurant has an old school dinner feel to it, reading the history on their menu gives you the feeling that this is truly a special place. I sincerely wish I liked it more. The restaurant is old, and the leather benches are ripped and falling apart. Normally this kind of thing wouldn't bother me, but years of use have left a BO smell on them that does nothing for my appetite. It was clean otherwise, so that is a plus. The food and coffee was ok, not really good enough to entice me to return. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I would probably give it another try if they made a few changes. read more
