First off, I'm not sure if this place is cash only, because even though it says on Yelp that they accept credit cards, I tried paying with a card and the lady asked me if I had cash instead. I also checked in and got a large cup of iced green tea. The beef noodles were good, although I wish that there were more beef in it. For the whole thing I only got 8 bite sized pieces of beef. The beef wasn't the most tender that I've had, but it was soft enough that I wasn't struggling to pull it apart. The bok choy was good though. They were cooked thoroughly and weren't so hard to chew through. I took my order to go so I can't say too much about the service. The lady who rung up our order was friendly, although that credit card thing was a bit confusing. I didn't have the cash on me so my boyfriend had to save me. The signage was a little confusing as well because the storefront still has their "Rockstar Noodle Bar" sign on it, but in the windows it says "Even Life". The soup has a lot of flavor and a nice kick to it, but I'm not super wowed by it. They give you a lot of meat. The real winner here is the noodles. They give you lots of options for noodles but I recommend trying the signature at least once. I don't have the palate to distinguish between noodles, but I really like the one here. We ordered Uber eats delivery from this Asian fusion restaurant and I didn't even know where this place was. It's one of the few restaurants that do late night deliveries in this neighborhood that's why we chose it. We decided on signature spicy beef noodle soup, smashed cucumber, spicy cold cut chicken and hot & sour flat rice noodle. The food was surprisingly yummy and flavorful, I especially liked the very refreshing cucumber. I'd order the seafood mini hot pot but didn't think it would be good for delivery though. We go here regularly, at least once a week. Not sure what happened this time. Went on Tuesday, August 28 and saw 2 people that I've never seen before working. We were the only ones inside the restaurant at the time we ordered. We got our usual, the house special hotpot. The person taking the order repeated it and we confirmed that was what we wanted. It's usually a milky white broth with no added spice. He came out with the pot and it was bright red and drenched in chili oil. We brought it up to him that we can't eat spicy and it usually comes white and pointed at it on the menu. He proceeds to tell us this is what it is, but it is definitely not what we usually get. He gave us an attitude and strained the soup out and poured in new broth, however the veggies and everything else was covered in chili oil. It was pretty much inedible because of how spicy it was. He also overcharged us and on the receipt it was the spicy pot for $12.50 instead of the house special at $11.95. This place does hit the spot when you are craving some soup. It's a small hole in the wall where there is just 1 cook and a server/cook. The server fries stuff as well if you order anything that needs frying. I like the old man's soup that has a little bit of tendon, beef, and tripe. Little veggies but it is enough for one person. Great on a cold day. Only bad part is that if the server goes out for a smoke, he smokes right by the door and you can smell it inside. They also don't ask if you want anything to drink like water so you gotta tell them if you want anything and not assume you'll automatically get it. Other than drinks, beef noodle soup is good. Even Life is a recent option my wife and I stumbled across that could satisfy a late dinner delivery of Asian food past 9 p.m. We were in the mood for noodles, so we ordered Beef Noodle Soup, Dan Dan Noodle, and a side of Enoki Mushroom in Beef Rolls. The Enoki Mushroom in Beef Rolls were just okay. They had good flavor to them. But I wouldn't necessarily say they are worth the price. The portion size for this is pretty small (three skinny pieces, cut in half). So while this tasted fine, I'd say get something else. My wife's ordered Dan Dan Noodles and they were way too salty. It basically tasted like peanut sauce with a lot of salt dumped in. She had to transfer the noodles to another plate and water them down in order for them to be edible. So this was a miss. The Beef Noodle Soup was also very salty unless you avoided the broth, which I did. The hand made noodles were very thick and wide, so they were able to soak up a lot of the broth flavor without being too salty themselves and this made the dish more enjoyable. There also was pretty minimal beef in my order (I ordered the beef, tendon, and tripe) though. I probably won't be coming back to Even Life again. But I wouldn't necessarily say it's bad. Well it's been 4 years now, and Even Life is STILL my boyfriend's and my favorite place to get spicy beef noodle soup. We both agree it's the only place that has the broth, meat texture, ingredient balance, and noodle texture down. Not to mention, it is so consistent and we never have to worry about the flavor changing. They got rid of the fried rice noodle, so I recommend getting it with the hand cut noodle, even though it's an extra charge. It's so good! Came across this place on Yelp when my friends and I were trying to figure out a place to eat late at night (11pm ish). So we decided to give this place a try since the reviews were good and we didn't want to keep driving down Colima Road all night. This place is located across the street from MJs Cafe, in the Michael's plaza. Once you are in the parking lot, just look for a restaurant sign called "Rock Star Noodle Bar", and go up that ramp and you are at Even Life Inside was a bit too cold for us, so we opt to sit out in the patio with the heat lamps. It was very relaxing and calm out there, not loud like other places. As for food, we ordered the French Fries, Popcorn Chicken, Dan Dan Noodles, Beef and Tendon Noodle Soup. GET the BEEF NOODLE soup! Soooo goooood, you won't regret it. Didn't like the Dan Dan noodle that much, had too much of a peanut taste. Popcorn chicken was tasty too, although I wish they had a sweet & sour sauce to go with it. Also if you were to get any drink, order their signature milk lid. I got the Oolong Milk Lid and it was AWESOME. That butter cream is to die for. So creamy and delicious. As for service, it was awesome. We also got grilled squid and popcorn chicken. The beef noodle was solid. It had decent beef flavor and the meat was tender but yet still a little chewy to give that texture satisfaction. Highly recommended. The server also brought us the pickled veggie for the noodle soup. It was salty and worked well with the noodles since the noodle soup had a mild taste. Grilled squid was not really grilled and it was soaked in a weird tasting sauce. I couldn't decide if I like the sauce or not, probably not at this point. Even though it wasn't grilled, it was well cooked but won't order again. Popcorn chicken was deep fried well but also had weird seasoning. It was really sweet and lacking on the salt pepper shack that I was looking for. Hell, it didn't even have the spicy powder. That won't be ordered again either. The service was great. They checked on us and even refilled our water without being asked. The restaurant has a outside patio area and we'll decorated. If you don't mind the Colima traffic and the hot weather, it's actually pretty nice outside. If you have yelp check in, you also get 20% off. I came here a couple days ago with a friend. The only reason we chose this place was because it opened late, to 1:00 AM. I felt like I've been here before. The mystery kept playing back in my mind like a detective movie, until I saw their other sign, their original name, "Rockstar". I don't know if they got sued by the energy drink or changed owners, but they never bothered to take down this sign, and added another sign on the other side, a small patio accessible only through the store, with "Even Life", quite odd. It's visible from the street. The menu was as I remembered it, maybe expanded, but centered around beef noodle soup and hot pots. I ordered a hot pot and my friend ordered the former. And it was good. Yeah, it was good. That's it. That's a good thing, but is it really? With so many hot pot places and beef noodle places I can list off the top of my mind, all within the two blocks known as Rowland and Hacienda Heights, what is Even Life's selling point? In my probably half-assed opinion, their late opening time has garnered them a loyal following. But within each one of these food categories, there are undoubtedly better options. Note that if you can't handle spicy, the Wugee hot pot at even the lowest spicy setting is too hot. It became an epic battle of quarantining spicy oil floaters with a spoon and picking off unsullied ingredients. I didn't judge this negatively, I probably could have ordered one of the other options. The flavoring of the broth isn't bad, aside from typical saltiness you should expect. The amount of ingredients were okay. I could rate this 4 stars. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with it.
