OMG this might have been the most delicious Indian/Nepali food I've eaten. I have the Fish Korma which was made from with Fresh Alaskan Salmon. Not only was the fresh salmon fantastic, but the curry flavor was complex and delicious. Not at all spicy for those concerned . My wife thought her Aloo Gobi was some of the best she'd ever eaten. And we weee both blown away by the Vege Samosas--the perfect texture and the spices on the vegetables within. We love Indian food, even having it for our wedding, and this place was truly top notch! read more

My husband and I have been enjoying Everest every few weeks for over a year. We're slowly working our way through the menu and exploring the various offerings. Favorites so far have been Saag Paneer, butter chicken, lamb curry, lamb biryani, lamb Rogan Josh, peshwari nann and hot chai tea. Some of the dishes have been boderline too spicy for us, but we have learned to ask them to tone it down a bit. Two main dishes and Naan are frequently too much for us, but the leftovers are reminders of a great meal. Service is always friendly and usually prompt. Atmosphere feels a nice mix of casual and elegant. And the noise level is low enough to enjoy our conversation with each other. And the Chai tea always hits the spot. Our next favorite Indian restaurant is Cedars in Seattle. So we're glad to have Everest here in Anchorage. read more

I placed a to go order my first visit for buttered chicken but I wanted to wait to write a review ti see if they were consistent. Here it is, my second week in Anchorage and I went to visit this place last night to eat inside the restaurant to seek out the ambiance. I ate alone while listening to the light sound of Indian music. I couldn't wait to come back again! The staff were very attentive. Although my plate at the table was not clean, someone jumped right in to fix the problem. They gave me hot tea, which was well fitted for the cold weather. The plain naan was just as good as the garlic naan, it just depends on your taste buds. If you are looking for a very nice and cozy restaurant that serves mouthwatering foods. I saw pretty good reviews for this restaurant. My man and I showed up excited and hungry @230 for lunch. The 4 gentlemen that were standing on the other side of the desk looked so irritated we were there. We said just two people please. There were probably 6 other people dining at this time. The workers continued to look confused and we got uncomfortable since they didn't get us menus and show us to a table. I guess they close @3 for a few hours and open back up for dinner. So we chose to leave and come back another day. I like that everyone that works there dresses to impress and the restaurant is very clean and well taken care of. We both got an entree, he got a chicken dish on rice and I got a spicy shrimp dish. Neither had great seasoning. My dish was supposed to be spicy but was mild. We also tried a rice pudding & pistachio ice cream for dessert. Neither had much flavor and the ice cream wasn't ice cream texture, rather yogurt like. I'm going to give this a 4 star for right now, I'm hoping to update this soon. We ordered take out for dinner and had Chicken Korma, Veg Biryani, Chicken Chilly, and Samosas. Food smelled great on the way home when it dawned on me that they never asked for a spice level! I will say that the food was indeed delicious, and a welcome addition to Anchorage. The only thing missing was the heat, Everything was pretty mild and the only other complaint would be the portion size, it was more a luncheon size I thought. Well this place is definitely new. Very nice atmosphere inside. The staff here so very friendly for sure. There was a homeless person around the area and the staff ended up giving him some food. The chicken lollipop was pretty good very crispy and delicious. The sauce that came with it had a lot of flavor to it and I just wish it was a little spicy. The lunch plates are very filling and makes it feels like you are back in school. Had the chicken vindaloo lunch plate and it was pretty mild so it's you add your own spiciness which is great cause I've been to many places where things end up too spicy. The side dishes on the plate were a very nice touch to it and also it comes with naan. Also ordered a side of garlic naan and I wish it was cooked a little bit more to make it crispy. With the lunch plates come with a rice pudding at the end and it was very nice way to end the meal. read more

Came with 6 people and called to make reservation which was easy. Table was ready and we were greeted immediately. We started with Gobi Manchurian which was delicious and one who doesn't care for cauliflower loved it and wants to learn how to make it. Had one vegetarian and they had allot of options. The garlic and plain naan were good, the cheese was fine but not too much cheese flavor. Have one family member with almond allergy and clarified the korma's do have almonds. Variety of entrees were ordered and everyone loved their meals. Goan Shrimp Curry, chicken tikka massala, paneer tikka massala, chicken tandoori and lamb rogan josh. I've only had Indian food at one other place in town so I was really excited to try another place. This location has replaced the old Turnagain arm bbq pit. The building itself is kind of weird and dated but the food was fantastic. They did Their best to make this feel very classy. The service was really great and attentive. We had the tiki masala and the shrimp tandoori. The tiki masala was really flavorful and filling. The shrimp tandoori was pretty basic and I probably wouldn't get it again just because I like a real authentic Indian flavor and it just didn't seem to have that. The naan was a little bit crispier than what I'm used to, but it wonderful flavors. Would definitely go here again. read more

Was given a flyer/menu in a parking lot by a nice man in a lovely suit "our new restaurant just opened". Went the next day to check it out. The building that was originally a Burger King to local old school residents which has gone through various other incarnations is now EVEREST Restaurant a Halal, Indian, Nepal, Himalayan cuisine place. It was beautifully decorated and totally transformed from any tacky former design and looked quite elegant with napkins folded nicely on the plates. We started with a Nepali iced tea with milk. It was a touch spicy with an incredible exotic flavor. It wasn't sweet like a Thai ice tea so after a few sips we added some sugar that was on the table to it which enhanced it even more. Loved it! We ordered the cauliflower appetizer and my son declared "A 10 OUT OF 10!! I never knew cauliflower could taste so GOOD!" Agreed. It was amazing. Then we got the Lamb Momo (like pot stickers only different) and the spicy curry chicken with jasmine rice. The Naan bread was to die for! They were all incredibly tasty and we wanted to eat all of it. The service was super polite and welcoming. One thing to know though, they are making cook to order food for the most part (it seems) and to keep in mind that this is not a quick dining experience. Not super slow but if you're the HANGRY type, have a small snack before showing up. They're making GOOD food here, not "fast-food". If it were truly busy like I expect it's going to be, be prepared to reasonably wait a bit for WORTH IT food. There are also many intentional VEGAN options for those of you who are or prefer it. I walked in here with a co-worker not knowing at all what to expect and was surprised to see that this had an upscale look. We were here for lunch. We both saw the lunch buffet, but decided to order off the menu. I ordered both the Veg Samosas which are a fried pastry filled with a filling of spiced potato and peas. Honestly I thought these were great. They were fried perfectly, the filling had a nice blend of spices, and they tasted great. I would not hesitate to order these again. I also had the Chicken Tandoori. This is chicken marinated in yoghurt and spices and cooked in a tandoori clay oven. This will come out sizzling. Never having this before I found it a challenge to eat. Maybe it needed some Naan or because the chicken was still on the bone. However, the chicken was nice and tender and had a great flavor. The veggies were still a little crisp. I don't know that I would order this again after seeing so many other great looking dishes. The big disappointment was the length of time it took to get our food. It took well over an hour to get our food and most people were eating from the buffet. If I was there for dinner it wouldn't have been a big deal. But for the lunch crowd, that's too long to wait. The service was friendly. Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to come back again. I've enjoyed going here since they opened. Lunch was previously lunch specials where you pick your protein and you got a tray with quite a variety of other foods. They recently discontinued that option and added a lunch buffet. Unfortunately, I don't really like the bad influence of a buffet when I'm actually trying to trim down and also don't care for the added expense. So, rather than a regular stop on the lunch tour, I think it will be more suited to group meals. Dinner portions, to me, seem slightly too large for one person, one sitting, but but enough to halve. So maybe i would recommend getting an appetizer in addition to naan if you're a group of two. read more

Craving for Indian food, we ventured out to Everest, hoping it would be a quiet place by the time we made it there at 8 pm. Well, the parking lot was busy with people waiting on to-go orders, drive through orders and more. We go in to see most of the tables were filled and the place was super busy. We were seated promptly and when I inquired about how long entrees might take, was told that it might take 45 mins but could be faster depending on the item we choose. We hurried to place our order of goat curry, paneer tikka masala, chicken lollipop, papad and aloo paratha. The papad and mango lassi came very quick. The lassi was good with a good balance of tart and sweet. The chicken lollipop came a bit after. Kids enjoyed it - we thought it was a good fried style chicken but not close to the indo-chinese lollipop we are used to. Our dinner came a reasonable time after. The goat curry was okay - not very spicy and light on the gravy. But the goat tasted gamier than goats usually do. It tasted more like a lamb would than goat. The panner tikka was decent as well....lot of gravy to be absorbed by the naan. My sons aloo paratha was probably the biggest disappointment with a very dry naan like texture, quite chewy and the potato filling inside was very minimal. Saw a few orders of tandoori chicken roll out of their kitchen and it didnt resemble the charred, reddish tinged tandoori we are used to making and seeing. However I am just judging by the look and not the taste. The servers were very nice and friendly and really putting in an effort to cater to everyones orders. read more

Came here for the first time on a Saturday night they were busy not only with dine ins but pick up as well. We only waited a few minutes before being seated and staff was friendly and restaurant was clean. Food was delicious we had the Tandoori chicken and butter chicken along with an order of Nann. This is where I've eaten the most by far. 3. Namaste Shangri-La - Prices are the most reasonable and it's good food! I've never been impressed by the lamb, but if your looking for the standards on the cheap, this is the one. 4. Yak and Yeti - Still shedding a tear for their Spenard Location which would reside atop this list if still in business, now there's just the cafe, which is fine, cheap, and quick for in and out sustenance. read more

Our new favorite "Himalayan" place. Their lamb chops are devine! If I need a lamb-fix (being and Aussie, this happens regularly) it's a toss up between this place or Turkish Delight. This is an AMAZING little restaurant! The experience starts when walking in the door: the smell is divine (it deserves a better word but not sure what...). The staff is friendly and gave great suggestions. Try the tea. I added 1 packet of sugar. So perfect on a cold day. See the pictures of the food. Perfectly cooked and beautifully served. A word of caution. When they ask how spicy you want it on a scale of 1-6, understand that a 3 causes sweating. That you Sunny for recommending a 1. Sunny was our waiter and made our visit so relaxing. Also, try the garlic Naan bread (Sunny's recommendation). We ordered from the menu but there is also a buffet if you're in a rush. read more

Recently gave Everest a try and wasn't all too impressed, but it wasn't terrible. We came for an early dinner around 5:15 and the place was empty yet service and food was a little slow. They had a lot of takeout being prepared so that may have been the culprit. We had the butter chicken with medium heat which to me was spicy, but my husband who loves spicy food felt otherwise. We also had the biriyani which had a flavor that we weren't quite used to (we've tried Indian food in many places, including across the US) and was not really our thing, but having said that, someone else may think it's flavorful so I won't knock it - it just wasn't for us. The food and service at Everest is very good! The Tandoori Chicken was terrific! Some of the sauces in our other entres lacked the flavor we have found other Indian restaurants, though. The building is old and on the outside it looks run down. However, the inside isn't too bad for an old fast food joint. As I previously mentioned, the service is very good here. I get so disappointed when the restaurant doesn't live up to the star rating. The interior is very nice and the waiters look so sharp and they are attentive. We came at lunch and ordered two lamb dishes. Lunches are served on a large tray and that may be why the food was cold. I think that the lentils and vegetable dish are obviously made well ahead of time and are just served up on the tray cold. The main problem was that the food was so oily it was barely edible.
