I have been coming to this location for smog check for years. It is always the same employee who assists me. In general he is NOT a personable guy, but that was never a big deal to me. What was important was he was quick and mostly efficient. I went back in December 2025, and it started out the same way, with the same employee. But this time I observed some off putting behavior from this guy, enough so I won't ever go back. He was extremely rude to a woman who walked in while I was having my service. She had clearly been there earlier and was coming back to follow up on a previous conversation. She was an immigrant and had a thick accent but she was clearly able to communicate, but the employee was extremely, unprofessional and rude to her. She was soft spoken, and responded calmly and patiently, despite his aggression towards her. After she left he was complaining loudly about her, and about immigrants in general... all while having a thick accent himself. It was disappointing to hear one immigrant disparaging another. He the started ranting on about Trump being right to kick these immigrants out. I warned him, Trump seems no difference between her and him, and probably me, a US born citizen. He disagreed and said he knows how things work in the US and Trump wasn't talking about him, but that SHE should be deported. IT WAS SHAMEFUL. Easy to get appointment over phone. When I reached, there was one car ahead of me. Took about 20 mins of waiting. The parking strip is a bit tight so had to wait on the alley. I needed an urgent smog check on my truck and had gone to three different places (they were either closed, or their equipment was broken, or they couldn't take any vehicle older than 2000. I'm sorry to have to write this review. I actually contemplated not doing this for the past two weeks. But I finally decided to write this review because some unsuspecting good people might encounter this themselves. About two weeks ago I had to get my car smog checked. It had to be a STAR certified place as well. After checking online, I found Evergreen Smog. Yay, it's in the neighborhood. So off I went to get this done. Upon arrival, I was greeted by an older Asian gentleman. He seemed friendly, but the first red flag: no mask! Kind of odd during Covid times. To be honest, he's the first person I've encountered since March when Covid started who did not have a mask on. I tried to keep my distance. I proceeded to hand him my paperwork and off he went to my car. While he was checking it, he made some comments about Chinese people which at first I thought I mis-heard. But no, he was clearly saying things about Chinese people which were very racist and derogatory. I don't want to repeat any of it here, but i will say my jaw dropped at how blatantly racist he was. Maybe because I am white he felt he could say that. I was honestly so shocked I had to tell myself to keep calm as I had no idea what his mental stability was like. I simply just pretended not to hear it. The smog test itself took about 15 minutes. That would have been awesome, had it not been for the inexcusable racial comments about Chinese people for those 15 minutes. I say this for everyone to be warned. I have no idea what was going on in his head, but it wasn't right. I don't know if he was the owner or a worker, either way, this was a horrible experience. read more

He was very unprofessional when I brought my car back for a retest. He insist that I bring my car back another day even though I showed up when he just open his doors at 8:30 am. I told him my mechanic helped me address the issue and my DMV fees were due soon. He didn't care and instead went to the RV parked inside his shop to have breakfast. I think he lives in his RV parked inside his shop. I found another Star test station nearby and passed without issue immediately after leaving his shop. I took the loss and just didn't want to deal with this unethical shop. read more

This is the most professional and quickest SMOG station I've experienced. The owner and Technician is very polite and gets to work immediately. My car was tested - and passed - in less than 15 minutes and the surprise was the cost was only $45 including the Test Certificate. Other reviewers were right...The guy doing the smog check is a racist POS idiot. As a Chinese person myself, it was very insulting to hear him talk crap on Chinese people. He said I looked like Viet and I told him I'm Chinese and he looked like he just crap his pants. Then he started to get friendly with me and ragged on whites, koreans, mexicans, etc. I told him stop it, I'm not interested and just focus on smog testing my car dude. He also recommended some repairs for my car which were bogus. who asked you? ok dude, you're not a mechanic. just do the smog check. Didn't have a lot of good things to say about Chinese. Found him kind of odd and kind of funny and kind of irritating all at the same time. Took my very very old car here for a smog check. He kept insisting I should sell it to Bay Area Air Quality for some money. I told him cars are too expensive right now so I needed to wait another two years. He proceeded to run the smog test on my car and the machine printed out passed all: NOx, HC, CO. He then called me in to tell me he gave it a fail because my car is too old. He said I should do a tune up on my car by replacing the spark plug, air filter, intake duct and so on. After the tune up, come back he will give a retest. WTH! Why would my car needed a tune up when the machine passed it? I paid him $50 as a loss and will go somewhere else more reputable from now on. read more

This was my 2nd time getting my car inspected at Evergreen Smog. I also had my car inspected there in 2020 - at the height of the pandemic lockdown. I was impressed then, and I am still impressed to find the owner/mechanic to be very professional, clean, friendly, and time-conscious. In fact, as i stood in line for a drive-up service, he took the time to let me know it would be ~ 30 mins, so I had time to run a short errand. This is so very refreshing! Went here for a smog check. I was greeted by a middle-aged man. He greeted me nicely and told me to wait a little bit since he was working on his RV in the garage. I filled out the form he gave me and within 3-5 mins, he came back to the front desk and asked me to move my car into his garage. I was thinking he was nice because he started to have a conversation with me. We talked about my car. Then he talked about himself and explained to me he was not a careless technician. In his words, he only does, not talk. ... hmmm. I began to feel something strange going to happen. He kept talking nonstop and asked a lot of questions. I just kept nodding politely and paid attention to what he were doing. He lifted up the hood and left it there. Then he drove the car into the right position. While he was doing that, the hood fell down and made a loud noise. ... Now this was careless. During the smog check, he kept talking nonsense and how he hated Chinese people because they were not nice and too talkative.... in his words. Well, I'm not Chinese but I felt this guy was crazy. I'm not his buddy, I'm his customer. Do not ruin my day by showing these prejudices and blathering nonsense. That was absolutely not professional and I recommend his boss bringing him to a mental hospital for a psychological evaluation asap. After that, he started making stupid comments on my car and me. He left my car key in the car after he was done. The car made noise and I had to go unplug it before I went with him to the front desk to pay. This was the worst mechanic I have ever met in my life. After it was done, I drove the car away quickly and never ever I want to return to this place. I do not recommend this place. The test itself was quick because I was the only customer there. Never go here, people! I want to give it zero star but it doesn't let me. First of all, the owner is breaking the law for not wearing face mask. Not just that he talks your ears off and up close to your face. smog check should take 15 minutes but went on 30-40 minute. He might look and sound like a nice guy but he will try to rip you off every way he could. I brought the wrong car ( didn't need smog check until 2021) in for a smog check and he smog checked that car and charged me $45.Then want me to bring in the truck that needed smog check for another $37. Got a recommendation from a friend and tried out this place. It's hidden about 2-3 stores down from Wheel Works in a small auto shop strip, right next to Payless Nursery. The Smog guy shares the shop with a Window Tint store, small place. Service was quick and easy price was not bad- cheaper than most places; $36.75 for regular smog (not Test-only) plus $8.25 for certificate at time of this writing. It's a test only smog station, but you can do regular smog check. It has an office and waiting area so you don't have to stand outside waiting. You can walk over to Tapioca Express, Target or the nursery to kill time if it busy. Overall a pleasant experience, recommend. read more

I went here for a smog check recently. The reason I picked this place specifically was because of the price. I called a lot of places and for an old pick up, they were charging around 65$ plus the cost of the certificate. This place only charged me 50. I was in and out in 20 minutes. Love to take my car here for a smog. It is located in a nice area, not like the sketchy ones down King and Story. The owner is very friendly and personable, which makes waiting there not awkward at all. They have a small waiting area with a couple of chairs and usually finish up within 30min give or take.
