    Kool-Aid of the day!
    Yvette D.

Austin and I are working on a project in St. Louis Missouri and we're looking for a place that sells the soul food that reminds us of home. We need to look no further! A coworker suggested quaint Café and we were not disappointed! The food is amazing, the staff, friendly, and engaging, decor wonderful, and did I say the food was amazing??? First of all, the menu huge, especially for a restaurant that is not particularly large. This first experience ensures that I will do my absolute BEST to try every one of the dishes on it! I had the shrimp habachi and it was PACKED with flavor! The shrimp were cooked to perfection, which honestly I haven't seen many people do here. To keep it 100. I'm from New Orleans so I know good shrimp when I taste them! Check this place out. I think you're really gonna enjoy it!

This place is newly opened in Benton Park. I was hesitant, because I have a sissy palate and don't like Cajun or soul food. I'm so glad I went. I loved everything about this cute little place. They've done a beautiful job redecorating and personalizing. The inside has high top tables and smaller low top tables. It's an old gas station, so they have huge garage doors that are open in the nice weather. Even if you sit inside on nice days, you still get a little of that patio feel. There is also seating at the bar. The outside has picnic bench style seating, which I'm not a fan of, but it's far from a deal breaker. They have fire pits and wildflower gardens. It's really lovely. I got a shrimp po' boy and asked for the remoulade on the side, which they obliged. It was fanfriggintastic! The shrimp were fried and perfectly cooked. They were of average size, which was perfect for the sandwich. There was so much shrimp. I ate probably 8 pieces just to make room for the sandwich to close. The bread was soft and fresh. I got waffle fries which were huge and delicious. They were out of cole slaw, sadly. The cocktails were great, as well. The service was outstanding. James was delightful and attentive without being overbearing. We had everything we needed. The entire staff were fantastic. I only live a few blocks away, and this is going to be a regular spot for me.

Redd Foxx Fish & Grits and James "Cool Papa" Bell Po Boy - highly recommend both!

Amazing experience - the food was delicious. It was hard to pick from the menu since everything sounded great. We ordered Redd Foxx Fish and Grits and the James "Cool Papa" Po Boy. Both were generous portions and incredibly flavorful - especially loved the catfish in both dishes. We also tried their cucumber and watermelon mocktails which were so refreshing on a hot summer night. Great hospitality, too - I think every server checked on us at some point and made sure we were comfortable and enjoying our meal. Definitely recommend! Excited to go back to try more dishes and enjoy some live music.

On the outside you wouldn't think nothing about this spot but once you come inside it's like you stepped into a wholenatha place! The inside is beautiful and welcoming, the customer service is amazing! As for food: Duck Noodle Hibachi - A+ This was the most wonderful dish I have tasted. The duck was so tender and amazing. The noodles added a great touch to a hibachi style dish and the flavors they put into this were amazing! Smashed Turkey Burger - C+ This was okay. I loved the idea of a smashed turkey burger but it's hard to cook turkey like beef. Turkey meat loses its juice the longer it's cooked(can't cook turkey too long) especially if it's smashed and that what happened here. The burger was dry but did like the fresh veggies on the burger and THE FRIES!!! The fries were killer, they put some kind of crack seasoning on them cuz I cleared those in seconds. Not Yo Mama Cajun Chicken Pasta - A This was definitely a great pasta! The chicken was cooked perfectly as well as the noodles. The sauce had the little spice to it from the Cajun seasoning and I'll definitely get this again! Red Foxx Fish & Grits - A- I gave this dish this grade because the catfish was amazing as well as the shrimp. Also the grits were made with Gouda cheese with elevated the dish as well as the other flavors. Oh the desserts simple A - they both were amazing!! Banana pudding had actual banana in them. Get that Arnold Palmer - I know you'll enjoy it!

Now this spot rocks with big flavors. The owners are so friendly and everything is sooooo delicious. So #stlouispescatarianapproved I got the shrimp burger because I rarely get to get a burger and it came with Gouda cheese. Holy smokes. My friend got the catfish and I snuck several bites. The spot is cute.

Delicious food!! Yummy drinks, friendly staff and nice patio. You can't confront with anything on the menu.

Second thing, don't expect to pay the price that's on the online menu. I only went to this restaurant for the meatloaf and cabbage, and to try out their dressing, which they didn't have any of those. Third thing, I paid $57 for the worst meal I've had this year. I called before I left to ask if I could place an order on the phone (since the online ordering was not available). Whoever answered just said "No you may not" and hung up (wow, great customer service, I should have known then they weren't gonna have meatloaf.) I thought I'd arrived early enough in the day 2:30 to be getting lunch menu. But obviously, since my bill was $57, I guess I paid for dinner menu items, I definitely didn't pay the prices they showed online, I paid twice as much. When it comes to the food, the turkey wing had a weird vinegary flavor, the mac and cheese only had a layer of cheese on top, once you got past that pretty topping, there was just unsalted noodles. The black eyed peas just tasted like water. The flour wasn't cooked out enough in the chicken and dumplings, so it was more like just wet dough rather than dumplings. All the salt that all the other sides needed badly was used up in those salty greens, almost inedibly salty. The ratio of fruit to crust in the peach PIE, stop calling it a cobbler, was way off, like lots of dough, few peaches. And I don't know how they could call that mush banana pudding, it was very unpleasant, and I guess when they were making, someone forgot to put in the bananas! The yams and cornbread were good. I wasn't offered water, although menu says free water with each platter (and no, with good service, I shouldn't have to ask if it's listed as part of the meal).

I also hadn't realized it was a buffet style restaurant (when I bought a certificate for the place on restaurant.com, they had a whole menu to order from. Imagine my surprise when we got there to this lunch lady cafeteria looking place. They need to update their info on restaurant.com so people will know what to expect. The food was COLD, had no flavor, what they called dressing was stove top stuffing, the macaroni was dry as hell with burned cheese on top. There was a tray that had what looked like tiny cubes of potato floating in some greenish water. The lady told me it was steamed broccoli. No ma'am, that's the part of the broccoli we usually throw away, where's the part that looks like a tree? Honest to goodness, that was THE worst spaghetti I've ever eaten. Not only did it taste TERRIBLE, it had the mouth feel of applesauce, super mushy. You could tell it was not only really cheap pasta, but they obviously boiled it for an hour and 45 minutes. The jiffy'ish corn muffin was so dry it just crumbled. And the sweet potato...notice I didn't say candied...was just a chunk of boiled sweet potato, no seasoning, no syrupy sauce, no butter. Our plates were still almost just as full when we left as they were when they served it to us. There was a sign stating only one dessert per customer. The guy that served us our food at the buffet kept hovering around us until my friend said she couldn't take it anymore. So we asked if we could just have our dessert to go, they told us there would be an upcharge for takeout. I will admit, the fried fish was EXACTLY the way I like it, not still soft and/or wet, but not cooked to death, a nice light hard fry. And the weird murky colored tea was flavorful, again, a real southern soul food cook would NEVER serve powdered tea mix, but it was pleasant tasting. But $5 for a glass of tea? The fact that the place was totally empty on a Friday night at 7pm should have alerted us that folks ain't busting down doors to eat here. The decor was pretty nice, the people were very sweet, but that cooking...smh. I've never gone to dinner with a friend and been in and out of a restaurant so fast. I think we spent a total of 20 minutes there. My friend paid, but later told me the bill was $60. That was $52 more than what it was worth.

This was my first time going to this restaurant and I've been wanting to try for about a year now…read more When I arrived the food smell good and the place looked clean and the staff was very friendly. We looked over the menu and we ended up ordering fried catfish, fried Green tomatoes, and fried pork chops. I also got a side order of mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy and fried okra. The fried green tomatoes came out and I felt like they were overcooked very mushy inside. The outer banner was very crunchy and cooked well the inside didn't really have much taste. The menu said they would serve it with a ranch dressing but it ended up being some other type of reddish sweet and sour type creamy dressing. It was ok. The pork chops we're dry and the meat tasted old. I think they need to change their meat supplier. The mashed potatoes taste it like I had a ton of garlic powder. In my opinion a restaurant should never use garlic powder but instead use fresh garlic in their dishes. It's really easy just to throw cloves of garlic in the potatoes as you're boiling them. Or roast them. I was burping up garlic for several hours after I left. You can often judge a soul food restaurant by their mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was baked but the cheese sauce tasted like nacho cheese sauce. Or some type of ready-made cheese sauce. And they just mixed up the cheese sauce with some elbow pasta, threw some American cheese on top and threw it in the oven. It was not the worst mac and cheese I ever had but it was definitely not good. The restaurant was very clean and I like their decor. Ray came out talking to customers and checking on their satisfaction. He was nice and I didn't have the heart to give him bad news. But I really believe unless they fix their recipes and show more imagination that they're not going to make it. Lighten up on the salt. The food was too salty. I wanted to try their sweet potato pie but after me and disappointed by all the other dishes I changed my mind. I probably won't be going back. 65 bucks for dinner for two.
