We still got what we wanted, a nice seat overlooking the water. One thing I'll say in that regard was there was a HUGE upfront rush, but then around 6:30 or so, the place had emptied out quite a bit. Might be useful knowledge if trying to time an entry here. ANYWAYS. The food. Phenomenal. So good. I stuck with standard fried chicken (ie not Nashville, not spicy) and it was amazing. Salty, well brined, flavorful. It even held up amazingly well cold out of the fridge the next day. Some of the best fried chicken I've had in years. The fries were insanely good as well. The greens (one of the side choices) were not my thing as they didn't have a lot of flavor. The only miss of the evening. My oldest enjoyed her burger, and my youngest thought the chicken was too spicy (read: peppery) but they've been uber picky lately so take that with a grain of salt (or pepper). Had a lovely cocktail here as well, called the Sunday Christian: Gin, Cocchi Americano, Bianco Vermouth, and orange bitters. I'm realizing I have failed you all but forgetting to mention the most glorious, buttery, flaky biscuit that comes with the fried chicken meal. It was a star of the show, and the only reason I'm just now mentioning it is that I ate it so quickly it disappeared into my memories. Wonderful place, and I'm sure we will go back next time in Saugatuck.

Wedges or fingerlings would have been a far better pairing in our opinion. Both of our plates were left barely half finished and it turned into a date of being food critics lol. A positive was they did make a decent old fashioned (was more of a double), and their French 75 was fabulous. Overall, it was a joke. We love interesting new places with unique menu options. We chose this place for that reason. Unfortunately we felt it was a case of "quantity over quality". These dishes had so much potential, but it was by far our worst food experience of our trip.

We had eaten at Everyday People before and love the food. It is excellent, no doubt. But last night, though we were first in line when the restaurant opened, it took us 2 hours and 20 minutes to eat due to lack of good service. Others around us were being served, getting their water and drinks and even their appetizers, but we were not. The order for our second drinks was lost, so they were late, too. There seemed to be plenty of waitstaff, as part of the restuarant was closed off (the part we had wanted to sit in). At the end, I walked out with half of my excellent chocolate torte in a napkin, because the 2 servers I asked for a box never produced them. The food is great, but good grief. Others who came after us were doing great. They weren't there for over two hours. I know one couple was local because they had been chatting with one of the older waiters while in line. There isn't a Zero for the service at Everyday People Cafe. Last night, we tried to get a table for 6 adults and 2 children, we had eaten here before and the food was above average. We were told our party was too big. I said we would split into 2 tables of 4. No and then this waiter comes scampering out and says don't I read the papers there aren't enough servers. (I guess he is a former FBI Profiler because he said I was standing aggressivly-Nope 65 that's just how we stand) I called today and Joanne hung up on me. BUT it worked out so well. We were here for an early dinner on Memorial Day. Not crazy busy as the weather was cold and rainy, but it was full with a wait by the time we left. Food was very good and came quickly, but we didn't feel rushed. We had pot stickers, ribs, and Salmon with lentils. Everything tasted made from scratch and portions were generous without being overwhelming. Service was fine, but we did get a tiny bit neglected when our server got a group of 10 ladies. Our first visit tonight for my birthday. What a great surprise! Kevin was our server and was really great from 'Hello.' The Farm Board was very good and the tomato soup was as good as described. The beef tenderloin and pork chop were both cooked really well and paired perfectly with the veg and mash. Topped off with a scoop of Makers Mark vanilla ice cream. I especially love coming here for breakfast. Sad it's not open during the winter for this. There's a lovely patio for sitting outside. The menu is not the usual, which is great.
