Everyday People Cafe was our weekend savior - in a way! We really struggled to find anywhere nearby that had decent food and a romantic atmosphere. Unfortunately you can't call ahead or book a table, but luckily we were seated quickly. Ambiance: We sat outside in a small, but quaint outdoor patio. Fairy lights, vines and soft music made for a pleasant summer evening. Service: Good. Our waitress was polite and prompt. Food: Very well presented and severed hot. We both felt like our dishes lacked flavor though -- which we were surprised at! Overall a pretty good experience. We wouldn't jump to go back but worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Several people told us to visit this restaurant. It was our first time eating indoors but tables were spaced appropriately and everyone was wearing masks. I had the sea bass which was perfectly cooked & delicate. It came with rice which didn't really add anything. But the fish was so good I didn't care. My husband had the duck which he also very much enjoyed. Now to the bit of drama. I did a bit of research before dinner & on the website it says no reservations, however another Yelp review mentions the host of their B&B was able to get a reservation. I was a little confused but not a big deal. When we arrived there were 2 tables outside, one of which was leaving. As I mentioned, up until this point we've stuck with outdoor dining so I asked if we could have an outside table and was told they were being held for other people. I was confused again but held my tongue. The woman behind me promptly jumped in that she had to tried to call 'the number' several times and no one picked up. She was pretty angry and it became clear to me that there's a special number for locals to use to make reservations. After the lady yelled for a bit (followed by her husband) I saw they were seated outside. Also, the table next to me said, 'I didn't think you took reservations' to which the host replied 'We don't'. Look, the owners of the restaurant have the right to do what they want. But from my point of view, it might just be better to be transparent & say reservations only for locals. If that's your call, be up front about it. Otherwise the staff should be prepared to explain it or have to deal with some cranky customers. They seemed surprised and a little annoyed that people were frustrated and or confused. Also, I tell this story to give a heads up to other visiting yelpers who may be confused. Would I come back? This is one of the best dining options in the area. Food is fresh and well prepared and the service is good. Defiantly consider a liquid brunch if your in the mood for their bottomless bubbles. For $20 you get a well prepared entree and endless bubbles. Great deal. Next time I'm back I'll defiantly come for dinner. After eating at another Douglas establishment, The Wild Dog Cafe, we came upon the Everyday People Cafe, and while I did not peruse the menu until the day of our dinner there, I had a feeling it was going to be good. The place takes NO reservations, however, you can call at 5:30, when the open, and leave your name on a list and can likely get a table by 6:30. Just plan ahead, call, and you'll be on the list. The place is quite large, with a bar in the main area with a few tables, as well as a back porch, and side dining room. Its not overly decorated, but has a very nice "beach town" feel to it. Our server was extremely friendly and very attentive. He took our drink orders after some discussion of what to order. They offer a very nice list of white and red wine, several beers on tap and about 15 more beers, and not just local brews - they feature some nice european beers as well. The most annoying thing about this place is having to decide what to order. I literally wanted to get 9 different things. Luckily, I did get to try several other dishes. I opted for the ahi tuna appetizer which was served with a small bit of greens, a spicy sauce and wasabi. The dish was almost like an upscale tuna sashimi dish. The sauce was spicy but not a lasting spice that ruins your pallet for the rest of the meal. I also had the pleasure of trying parts of the spanish tapas appetizer and the prince edwards mussels. Both were outstanding, especially the mussels. For my main course i went with the lamb, 2 ways, first grilled in a bbq sauce and then topped with an asian sauce that matched perfectly with the grilled carrot and fennel 'slaw and the scallion pancakes. The sauce was delicious and the lamb was tender. There were 6 chops, served in pairs. I also tasted the Duck Confit Risotto and the sweet corn asparagus risotto. I prefered the duck, but they were both very flavorful and tender - no under cooked arborio rice here. Overall the meal was fantastic and I can see why this place has been around for THIRTY years. We are frequent visitors to SW Michigan and love Saugatuck but hadn't spent much time in the neighboring town of Douglas until recently. EPC was bookmarked so when friends recommended we meet there for brunch we were excited to finally try it. We liked it so much we ended up going twice in one weekend! The place is a former diner, the decor is updated retro with minimalist furnishings and subtle art-work on the walls. The high season for this area isn't in full swing yet so it was easy to get a table at 1230pm on a Saturday and 730pm on a Monday when we went back again for dinner. The service both times were super friendly and very efficient. You get a really good vibe in this place. Their menu isn't large but has a nice variety of inventive small plates, entrees, salads and desserts. On "brunch day" we tried the oysters on the half shell and the DIY Bloody Mary bar. They also have a "bottomless bubbly" feature that for just a tad bit more you can have the champagne flowing...such a great idea and something we'll try for sure next time. Our main dish was the Lobster Roll and we've had them from Maine to Massachusetts and these were by far the best ever. I attempted to pass on the fries but our friends suggested otherwise and I'm so glad I didn't - they were excellent with a touch of sea salt and rosemary sprinkled on them...addictive! Our dessert was the Creme Brulee Napoleon, which we shared and it was fabulous too. The pastry was light and flaky and the custard and raspberry sauce were amazing. When my hubby and I went back for dinner, we tried the Mussels (a huge portion that is more than enough for four to share as an app or two to share as a main meal), the Pork Chop and the Epic Burger. Everything we tried on our return visit was really good too. Everyday People Cafe is a great spot and we're looking forward to summer visits so we can explore the galleries that line Center St. in Douglas, Michigan. read more

I love this place. They are priced a bit high, for my tastes, but the food and ambience makes up for it. If you get to choose, sit in the back room. It's lovely. Tonight I had the filet with wild mushrooms and buttermilk mash. Super good. The filet was cooked a bit more well than I had ordered, but I ate it. The sauce on it was great and the mushrooms went really well with it. We can't come here without ordering the peanut butter s'more tart. It's amazing. This place is awesome! I have taken my girlfriend to Saugatuck the last three years for her birthday. A friend of ours with a summer home in nearby strongly recommended we check out Everyday People. We were not disappointed. The first time we went, there was a LONG wait, so we ordered appetizers at the bar, and they were amazing. I highly recommend the Drunken Shrimp Sambuca! The bar iss outside and they have live music on the weekends with above average performers. It's a casual place with slightly upscale food. The service is okay. It's been since last September, so I can't go into extreme detail, but I almost gaurantee you won't be disappointed. I think I had a filet and my gf had fish and we were both extremely pleased. When I saw there weren't any reviews yet, I had to make sure anyone travelling in the area was in the know about this place. When I go back, I will update my review for more detail on the food. EDIT: I overheard the owner chef (and apparently now mayor of Douglas) have an interesting coversation with one of his chef's. The chef was asking about a woman who had stopped in to ask about hosting a wedding rehearsal dinner. The owner said he could not accomodate her because it would disrupt his regular business and he didn't want to have it affect his business and the regular diners. The woman asked again adding that her husband worked for the New York Times and their wedding would be written up in a big piece in the paper. He again told her he couldn't do it. The chef reacted with a kind of shocked "wow", and the owner replied with - "I don't care about publicity; all I care about is food!" When you eat here, you can tell he was serious. read more

I visited EPC 8/5 after too many years being away. It was as wonderful as I remembered. The food is fabulous and the vibe always so much fun. It was wonderful to see the hostess who I remembered from years ago running the ship - she is amazing!! How she stays so calm and organized with the nutty tourists in town I have no idea - kudos to her. If you're really lucky you'll get Michael or Kevin as your server - lovely men and so polished they make waiting on multiple (demanding) tables look easy. Great place, everything was good. There was a long wait when we arrived. They don't take reservations. But there was room at the bar. We decided to eat there & glad we did. The bar tender was really busy but really good. We were amazed how she made you feel like you were her only customer when she had many. The prices were very reasonable, serving sizes very generous. I had a Greek salad & mussels which I couldn't finish there were so many of them. My lady had tuna tartar which was awesome, I had a bite. ;-) They had a decent wine & beer list. The area needs this restaurant but Matt and his mother are tired and arrogant and it is because of this that it is only a matter of time until this establishment closes. The food is over done and has lost its flare. The basics were always strong, but now are mediocre at best. It is a stretch to find anything on the menu that is edible. The service is worse. They use young kids who have no experience and are unskilled. All of the long time waiters have long since left: Kevin, Michael, James and the like. Instead of asking what is wrong when somebody who has spent a lot of money over the years complains, Matt blames the customer. Obviously this arrogant attitude is now the norm and this establishment is no longer worthy of a visit. There are new better choices nearby that deserve your money before this restaurant. read more

Had a group of 8. Tried to call ahead as requested but no one answered. No problem. Showed up and put our name in at 5:30. Said it would be fine if they divided us into two groups of 4. Was told 45 minutes to an hour. No problem. Waited an hour and got a call telling us they couldn't accommodate us at all tonight. I have been here many times and the food is typically good. Visiting from Chicago, my friends and decided to check out this spot. They have a good deal with bottomless champs for brunch, as well as a $5 build your own bloody. Food was delicious. But, their coffee and customer service is what I have to rave about. I was told their coffee is from a local coffeehouse (which I then went to try and fell in love with), which is an appreciated nice surprise. Lastly, their customer service. Although I can't remember the waitress that tended to us, she was super attentive, friendly, and down-to-earth. There's a saying that says, "people may forget your name, or what you look like. Server would only take order fro the long end of the table, not easy. Food quality was poor at best, when food was ordered medium to well done, well done (or more) was the norm. I have wanted to eat here for years. Finally had the chance. I was in a big group- 6 people. We put our name in and went to have a less crowded bar. We came back in an hour. Sadly, no table so we waited for another 15 minutes. The hostess had sat many people (many, in smaller table set ups) but there was so concern just dismissiveness. We left and won't return. Horrible. The pictures look good but.... service was so bad. Dirty table. I asked to have it whipped and I get attitude. Appetizers took way too long to get. The place was empty when I was there. No attention to detail. You would think if they serve oysters they would have Tabasco, they don't. You would think if they serve oysters they give you a small fork but no it's a huge dinner fork. You would think if they serve you a hamburger they would serve you catchup and mustard with it. What a simply beautiful place. The food here is so delicious and wonderfully presented it is truly a culinary delight. The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed like the town of Douglas itself. My Daughter and I arrived for a late lunch and the staff treated us with the highest caliber of service. I had the lunch special which was artistically assembled scrambled egg plate. Their Homemade bacon (Yes... Homemade) was so delicious and complimented the meal perfectly. My Daughter had the Braised Pork Burrito with Ancho Chili Sauce. The pork was perfectly seasoned and just melted in your mouth. The balance of super fresh lettuce, tomato, pinto beans was excellent. The Ancho Chili sauce is so flavorful but not overpowering, I just don't know how they do that. But it is perfect. The Everyday People Cafe is a must if you are ever in Douglas. This was our 2nd visit here and it was just as good as the first visit. The atmosphere is very pretty and relaxing. We sat inside because the back patio was filled but it was just wonderful. Our server was very sweet and efficient. We enjoyed glasses of wine which were reasonably price and true to their description. My husband ordered the burger which was delicious. It tasted freshly ground and was perfectly cooked. I ordered the Filet Saltimboca which was very good. The Demi-glaze had a deep flavor, asparagus salad was fresh and tasty. The mashed potatoes were the real deal. My filet was juicy and cooked to my liking. My knock would be that it lacked a broiled taste and char marks leaving it just a little less than tasteful. But still a good choice. I love desserts but didn't order any because they all seemed complicated and only presented verbally by the server, there was no compare and let one grab you and no mention of price or size, so I chose to pass. If you are a picky eater, you are pretty much stuck with a burger unless you can see if they can leave things out of their faire. But, this is an excellent choice for dining and you won't be disappointed. read more

In town for the a holiday weekend, Everyday People got some decent reviews on Yelp, so we decided to check it out. Seated right away, the special of the day was scallops, which we both got. We arrived late on a Friday night from Chicago to discover that only "Take and Bake" was available... We figured that was better than nothing and got a nice selection of food to heat up back at our Air BnB. It only took a minute for me to look up from my plate and say, "Is it just me or is this food absolutely fantastic?" My wife agreed. We had a crab cake (lots of real crab, not the bready thing that tends to pass for crab cakes at lots of places), vegetable lasagna that was incredibly flavorful (and a generous portion), an excellent Caesar salad and the caramel cheesecake. They also make a superb Bees Knees cocktail which we enjoyed as well. The proprietors couldn't have been more helpful and clearly take great pride in their offerings. I've been coming to Everyday People since they opened and I've always been pleased with the quality of the food, the service, and a fresh and interesting menu. In the summer, be prepared to wait. They open at 5:30 for dinner, but people start lining up at 5 because they don't do reservations. Every time my wife and I visit the Saugatuck/Douglas area, we make sure to stop at EPC at least twice. Once for dinner and once for their weekend "Bubbles and Bites". During our most recent visit, we had the pork chop (one of their staples that hasn't changed in 20 years) and the gnocchi. The pork chop is always amazing - served with a caramelized onion "jam" and melted Gorgonzola... *drool* The gnocchi were light and pillowy and made with their house made bacon! My wife was tempted to lick the bowl to get more of the creamy Parmesan sauce! We went to brunch on a Sunday, and were lucky enough to snag a spot outside! My wife enjoys their $5 build-your-own Bloody Mary bar with what she says is "the best Bloody Mary mix in town," while I enjoy their bottomless champagne! They recently added a GIANT smoked pork burrito to their menu that we're crazy about, but neither of us were able to finish it! The waffle is to die for, we split one for dessert every time. I wish we had a kid solely so we could unashamedly ask for extra of their homemade whipped cream. Yum! Always a pleasure. We're already looking forward to coming back! read more

It was our first time at the Everyday People Cafe and we were not disappointed! The Bucatini Pasta with shrimp was amazing. Everything about this from the al dente pasta, the perfectly cooked shrimp and the garlic, lemon zest, sun dried tomato and pea cream sauce...OH MY! So glad we'll be In town for a while so we can come back for the Bucatini or try something new. We also had the Greek salad and the dressing was a little sweet with just the right amount of oregano. Wow. That's kind of a brief review, but a succinct summary of the wonderful meal we had here. We were sent here by the proprietor of our bed and breakfast, who even made our reservations for us. The restaurant has varied seating areas, and we were lead to the lovely and cozy back patio for our meal. The restaurant is very careful in this era of COVID-19, and we were appropriately distanced from the other diners, and the "menu" was provided as a q-scan card. Once we pulled it up and took a look, we were immediately impressed. The locally-sourced ingredients, imaginative menu items, and interesting wines let us know we were in for a treat. I ordered the Otto's farm roasted chicken, with an heirloom tomato and arugula salad with house made bacon vinaigrette and mashers. My husband got the Gorgonzola Pork chop with onion jam, veggies, and mashers. The chicken was perfectly done - moist, tender, the skin crisp and delicious. The combination of tastes was amazingly fresh and satisfying. The chop was equally well prepared and the combination of tastes perfectly balanced. The portion sizes were just right: high quality ingredients and sized to be eaten at that meal, leaving you satisfied, not stuffed. Definitely the best meal we have eaten in a long time. read more
