I need to preface this with 99.9% of the time I do not give a 5-star review to a place based off a first and one time visit, but, that being said, this place deserves it! Yelp very rarely leads me astray, especially when it comes to small town joints, but finding this place when looking for someplace good to grab a filling meal after a pretty challenging hike in Colorado Bend was like hitting the jackpot! First, this place is right smack in the middle of the town square. Second, it is German meets quirk, meets small town dry humor for its decor and I loved everything about it! Third, you know this is where the legit locals call home. When we walked in, it had a smattering of townfolk and that right there is usually a solid sign an eating establishment is non-touristy for real food. This joint is as real as it gets for German food. I am not a big German cuisine person because it tends to be very pork heavy and I usually do not eat pork (outside of bacon). But, if you want what I can only assume is the authentic german culinary experience, you have hit the bullseye! I love a place that brings me citrus w/my water and this place was already on a 5-star trajectory when our lovely server brought us huge glasses of water (we were soooo thirsty!) with limes! She was also fantastic at recommending anything and everything! I am pretty well versed in beer, so when she steered me towards a Paulaner Hefe instead of a Doppelbock, I had my doubts, but w/the hefe being on draught and the Db being in a btl, I let the dice roll. It was such a solid call! They serve the Hefe w/a slice of orange (in the actual correct glassware to boot!) and Steph(f?)anie, our fantastic waitress and my new fav person in Lampasas, even gave me a hit of Sprite to turn into a refreshing radler. I thought I was already in heaven w/my beer, but oh was I wrong. My heaven arrived in the form of the most perfect reuben I have had in a very very long time! Anyone who knows me knows my affinity for this hot sandwich (if it were a man, we'd be celebrating our Crystal wedding anniversary). So I do not give out whimsical flights of fancy and adorationg when it comes to a reuben. But, this thing was just fantastic! From the bread, to the meat, to especially the kraut! The kraut...it was simply sweet, sour, textured perfection! This thing was so good I am tentatively declaring it the best reuben I have had in the quasi-ATX area! Though, my gastro-bliss did not end at the reuben. My friend shared some of her schnitzel sammie and I was blown away! Seriously, this thing was the essence of simplicity, but the flavor it packed between the breaded pork and the horseradish was incredible! I never thought I'd like a piece of pork other than bacon. As full as we were between our beers and sandwiches, we had to have dessert. They bake everything fresh and in-house and my friend and I had been having eye-love affairs w/the black forest cake and cherry strudel. We shared both pieces and though it hurt (so good) we cleaned our beautifully presented plates. I got an espresso as well; it was rich and perfectly smooth, but with the roasted bite I love. After paying a very reasonable tab, we waddled ourselves out to the car. The drive home was a bit dangerous because both of us were in a full fledged contented food coma. I stopped here for lunch as I passed through town. I had the wiener schnitzel, which was very good even though I believe it was pork - not veal. I also ordered a side of spatzle noodles, which were the real deal! The only miss, and it mat just be my individual taste, was the strudel, which had a great crust and apples, but had some sort of cheese mixed in with the apples... not my favorite. Very cool spot on the square in Lampassas. Friendly wait staff and the food was pretty good. I had the Schnitzle plate with brown gravy, spatzle, and green beans, and it was very good. My wife and I have eaten there many times over the years and they never cease to make their food better and better. I was stationed in Germany for four years and I loved their food and beer so it is surprisingly wonderful to find a restaurant so close to us that has the great taste of REAL German food. We ate there today and the food was perfect!! So we tried the pies and could not believe they tasted just like the bakery in the little town of Rossdorf, Germany. I found Eve's on my drive back to Austin from Abilene. I stopped in Lampasas and wasn't expecting to find such delicious food! The atmosphere in Eve's reminds me of a small place in Germany, surrounded by tons of German decor was really awesome. I had the Rahm Schnitzel and was amazed at how authentic it tasted. Having had schnitzel in Germany, the schnitzel here tasted as good or even better! The menu has quite a selection of food and I'm sure even a picky eater could find something they enjoy here. This place is a hidden gem. The German food we tried was amazing, better than anywhere I've been in Fredericksburg. The owner chatted with us and told us how this has been a family operated business run by himself and his wife, who has always loved making German good (it comes from her heritage) and it really shows! I ordered the curry wurst sandwich and a side of spaetzle, both were delicious. The curry wurst was meaty, flavorful and the perfect texture and came with curry ketchup. The buttery spatzle is the perfect pasta side. We were talked into dessert....we were too full already....but the made-in-house creamy, dreamy pistachio pecan cheesecake is a life changer. Somehow, we ate every last bite, and I could have had more. They offer a variety of festive German beer and the pour is generous. Pro Tip: "Man, what did they order at the table next to us?!" This is the first time coming to Eve's. The atmosphere is nice, the wait not to long, and the staff very friendly. I got a butcher block salad. I was honestly expecting a chopped up salad with alot going on. However I was pleasantly surprised when I was brought out a tasty salad on a cutting board. This place was good! I didn't exactly know what to expect from a German Restaurant in a small town but it was a nice meal. I got the "Works" Schnitzel and my boyfriend got the Brat. As far as aides, Red cabbage was good. I'm not too into the noodles but I think that's just me. I had the Wurst special, with french fries, and red cabbage. The french fries were hot and crispy, the red cabbage warm and savory, the side salad fresh with buttermilk ranch dressing.
