We went to EVOO & Lemon on Sunday with our family to celebrate a birthday. Unfortunately, they were out of a few of the things on the menu and they didn't have any specials, as the server said that they were busy the night before. One person in our party also wanted the cheese board, which is on the menu online, but wasn't on the menu when we got there. That being said, we really enjoyed everything that we ordered. My favorite appetizer by far was the saganaki with fig jam. It basically tasted like a delicious fried cheese everything bagel and the fig jam put it over the top. We also got the bifteki, cheesy peppers, and crab cake appetizers. Our server recommended the cheesy peppers and although ricotta cheese is one of the very very few things I'm not a huge fan of, these peppers were great! For the entree, I had the scallops, which usually comes with risotto, but they were out of the risotto so instead it came with lemon potatoes and sauteed spinach. This was an odd combo, but each of the items separately were good. My mom had the whole branzino, which was my favorite of the entrees. I'm a weirdo and like to eat the head & skin of the fish, which she kindly shared with me and they were perfectly grilled/seasoned. There were two options for dessert - baklava and a chocolate souffle with ice cream. I shared the chocolate souffle, which was gooey and delicious. My dad had the baklava, which was a generous portion and he said it was very good as well. I think my only gripe with our dinner would be how long everything took - we got there at 5 and left at 7:30, so a 2.5 hour meal is a bit long for me. However, the delicious food made up for it! I ordered off the lunch menu - 3 spreads for $12: tzatziki, baba ghannouge, and htipiti served with plenty of warm pita. The htipiti which had a spicy kick to it was my favorite, followed by the baba ghannouge. The spreads really hit the spot and I would have been perfectly happy with this as my meal. The scallops taste like Jersey style: charred and chewy on the outside. I either dislike scallops or outside of NYC, I can't find solid scallops. When I went, it was empty on a Wednesday night. 8pm. We got to the restaurant at 6:28 and we were told that our reservation was given away - very unapologetically. Then the man at the front lied and said that he called, which he did not. I looked at my phone and there were no missed calls. I showed him my phone and he shrugged. So I looked in the rez book to make sure my phone number was correct. My boyfriend decided to come to this place after we went to the gym. The host/waiter dismissed our casual athletic wear and promptly seated us to the back of the restaurant. He gave us freshly toasted bread with a side of hummus and olives. Soon after, we ordered the calamari for our appetizer, seafood couscous and lamb for our entrees. The calamari isn't the typical breaded kind you'd normally eat at other restaurants as shown in the pictures. I actually grew to love this take on calamari because of its freshness and simple seasonings (including EVOO and lemon, of course). After telling the chef my bf wanted medium for his lamb, he kept his word. The lamb cut like butter and melted in my mouth. I've never tasted lamb as juicy and tender as this one, and my bf made sure he got every single piece of meat off of the bones. The seafood couscous was just as delicious and filling as it looked. Every mussel, clam, squid, and shrimp was cooked to near perfection. At the end of our meal, the chef gave us baklava for dessert, which came as a surprise considering it was peanut-free baklava. The green beans that came as a side was also very good -- not sure what they put it in but it had a really nice umami flavor to it. Our friends loved their dishes too. My only criticism is the carrot cake -- way too sweet, way too much frosting and not enough cake! And the little bit of cake we did have was not moist enough. My family and I came here on a Saturday night. I was looking for something light, healthy, but filling and Mediterranean food seemed like a great option. This place is fairly new having only been open for four months. The space is bright and clean with a very modern and open aesthetic. They have a good amount of seafood options and Mediterranean fair that almost anyone would love! Upon being seated, you are served fresh baked bread with delicious hummus. We ordered the grilled octopus, baba ghanoush w taziki sauce, Blue point oysters, Bronzino, seared scallops, and the strip steak. Everyone loved their dish! The baba ghanoush was served with small lightly toasted pita points and the whole dish was one of the best I've ever had. I've had Bronzino made so many ways before, but I can't say that I liked the way they made it here. While the fish was fresh and delicious, I wasn't crazy about the light lemon sauce they had on top. I think it would have been better if they just grilled the fish and had the sauce drizzled on the side. The seared scallops could have been a little more seared, but otherwise they were still very good. Overall, we really liked this place and the food was really fresh and tasty and the space was inviting with an attentive staff. I would def go back and recommend it to everyone! Even though we live in the area, it was our first visit to this restaurant. We didn't know they did reservations (which we will make next time), but they were able to get us in on a Sat night. We started with Mediterranean salad, which is large enough for two to share ,along with second plate, the famous, grilled octopus. My husband had branzino as his entree which he loved.
