I didn't bother shopping around because one shop I came across before DC Auto quoted me nearly triple. I also learned a few things about newer cars and which engines are a headache to work on and which are not. Guess I'm not getting any more German cars. This review is in regards to his up charge. Went in yesterday to get my headlight bulbs replaced and he charged $40. I made the mistake of giving him high beam bulbs. He said he can buy the parts and wanted to charge me $70 for the bulbs. I said no thanks. Bought some from Amazon for $29. Came back today and he's charging me $120. I was dumbfounded bc he just said $40 yesterday now he wants to up charge me an arm and a leg -it's BS y'all. His reason was he was busy and said that it's too hard for him to do... doesn't make sense. I ended up going to Ming Star Auto on Las Tunas and Baldwin next to the McDonald's. The guy charged me $40 and finished in 10 mins. In conclusion- find a different mechanic. DC gives me shady vibes. If you have a Toyota and Honda go next door to Evolution they're honest, reliable, affordable and excellent at their work.

Also, Longo Toyota can go to hell. Quick story: Mom's Lexus battery was replaced by AAA, but something happened and the engine bay started smoking. Took it to her dealership, Longo Toyota, and was told the coolant leaked into the engine (??) something like that. The total repairs would cost $8k. Absolutely insane. Wanted a second opinion and folks on Reddit recommended this auto shop. Had the car towed here and Chao inspected the damages. He replaced something that only took 2 hours and a $125 part, and the car was totally fixed. In total, he charged us $200. Chao knew we weren't knowledgeable about cars yet was super honest with the repair. I now trust him 100% with all of my future car problems. I had recently changed the battery, so that made sense. He told me I just needed to drive it another 50+ miles. What I didn't expect was the $40 charge for that check. At my usual place, if the car doesn't pass, the fee covers retesting within 30 days. I assumed most smog shops worked similarly, but that was my assumption. Here, the $40 was just for running it through the machine, and when I come back it will be full price for the actual smog test. What confused me was that the manager later mentioned that if I had told them about the battery, they could've checked the readiness monitors in about a minute with a different device. That part would've been helpful to know upfront. It seems like offering that quick pre-check automatically could save customers time and money, especially since battery replacements are common. I paid the $40. That's on me for not asking more questions beforehand. But for anyone going in for a smog check, especially if you recently disconnected your battery, I'd recommend asking them to check your readiness monitors first before running the full test. They were fast and polite. I just think clearer communication about pricing and the quick pre-check option would make the experience much better for both the customer and the business.
