I must agree with Russell C. I was there a couple of weeks ago and a gentleman by the name of Tony did an excellent job on one of my fitting jobs. I brought two suits to the shop and he fixed them perfectly. He was very courteous during the entire process and always put my thoughts/recommendations in front of his. He certainly provided the type of service that would be expected at a fancier tailor shop, such as Men's Wearhouse. I would recommend for everyone to go to this shop for any clothing alterations. I used to come here and was happy with their work, customer service and price. My experience this past week was quite unpleasant. I was there late Sunday afternoon. There were all new people. They told me five items of clothing would be ready for pickup Wednesday afternoon. When I returned Wednesday at 4:45 p.m., I waited a half hour for them to find my clothes. The work had not been done. When I asked for my clothes and 60% deposit back they pointed me to a sign that said "NO REFUNDS STORE CREDIT ONLY." They told me only the manager, who was not there, could override this policy. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? That's for people who are not happy with the work. After arguing I eventually got the money back but only four of the five items of clothing until I returned yet another time read more

I've used this tailor shop twice before and their work has been pretty good. Not happy to leave a bad review but I brought my dress for my college graduation here a week before the ceremony to have a lining put in. They told me it wouldn't be a problem and that they needed to order the material to do the job. I came back a week later and the job wasn't done. They told me to come back the next day (the day before the ceremony) which I did and they told me a g a i n to come back the next day because they STILL didn't have the material! I couldn't do this because the ceremony is tomorrow, so they just handed me the dress the same way it was when i brought it there :( now I'm searching for an alternative last minute. They should have come clean about not having the material the first time i came to pick up the dress. This place really screwed me over, save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else for alterations. read more

Okay so I'm 5' 1". A tailor is a need not a want. But I'm also poor, so after I paid $25 for a hemmed skirt at the local dry cleaners I was on the lookout for something a bit more reasonable. Went to Express Tailor Shop based on reviews and I was not disappointed. I got a pair of jeans shortened with the original hem, a lined skirt shortened, a pair of pants taken in and another skirt taken in. After trying on everything to get the chalk mark (an odd process but humiliation-free as they have actual rooms with doors to change in -- not curtained area) the guy looked at the small pile and said "An hour?". I was amazed. When I got them back I was even more amazed. The jeans were done so well I thought they had been forgotten. My one complaint was that in order to take in the entire length of the dress pants they had had to open the cuff hem too (which he did warn me about, either because he didn't want to do it or because they charge per seam opened). I thought the stitching to put it back together again was a little too quick and dirty. But they look fine from the outside and it wasn't so loopy I could get a heel caught in them or anything so who cares? Especially when the total bill was just under $30. This place is pretty damn good. I had a bridemaid dress COMPLETELY overhauled....hemmed, taken in everywhere, had a sash shortened, basically everything changed. I dropped the dress off on a sunday and it was totally ready by the following friday (I had to go back once and they made some additional changes). I liked that they have actually rooms w/doors for you to try things on in, and the speed of the job. The price was also nice: only $65 to do all of this, and they did a good job. I would have give 5 stars, but the guy who I spoke with there was a little rude to me when I was telling him what I wanted him to do. But I mean, at this price, what do you expect. read more

I went here because Nelson's is closed on Sunday., and I needed to have my pants hemmed (without the cuff). I paid $10 for two pairs and had my altered pants back within 30 minutes. It was a very easy job, so I can't speak for their ability to handle more complex work. read more

I brought in a $270 brand new bridesmaids dress to be hemmed and taken in a bit at the top. I dropped the dress off Sunday, they said it should be ready by Wednesday and to "call and see if it's ready." I gave them several extra days, calling the following Monday. It was not ready. They said to "call and see if it was ready" the next day. I called Wednesday, and yay a week+ later they said it was ready. I go, try it on. There is a snagged thread/pull across the front of the dress on the bust that is very visible. The zipper barely zips up the back and is too tight. I show them this, they say they will fix it right now in 30 minutes. I express concern that they may let too much out because taking it in is what I needed done in the first place. Although I had other things I needed to do, I wait. The second time I try it on is when I notice two small spots on the front of the dress, near the bust and near the strap. And low and behold, one side is too big. They say they will take it in again and when I ask if that stain is blood? They say it was already there. An hour later after two attempts to fix it, the top finally fits enough that it's acceptable. However, when I attempt to bring up the stain again, they say that the guy remembers it there yesterday when he was working on it. Ok? So it was there yesterday after you've had it a week. Again- brand new dress, never been worn. Trying not to be rude, I point out that they gave me a dress with a snag across the front, and if they didn't notice that, then I doubt they would have noticed the dots. They say something along the lines of "I'm not saying it did or didn't happen here, I'm just saying there is nothing we can do about it." I ask for a discount, they call "their boss," can't reach him so they hand me 15 dollars in cash. $80 dollar charge, $15 discount.... I leave with a stained dress, that I have not yet worn, that cost me $335 dollars and I will now have to pay for dry cleaning. So basically, don't go here, and if you do, make sure you have lots of time and at least take pictures of your items before you drop them off so that they can not pull a "It was already like that." read more

Ok let me say this was not my first time using this company BUT IS THE LAST. Took 3 items to be tailored. 2 jumpsuits and 1 dress. At the drop off I should have walked out. Customer next to me with $10 dress (tag on) was arguing (in Spanish)she wanted dress tailored split and all for $5. Her argument was dress only cost $10 so she felt $5 was fair . They agreed quietly! ! I on the other hand debated $25 for straight hem summer dress was too much but I paid. I left 3 items paying $85. Well I returned days later pu items and headed home 2 hour trip. Started packing bags for trip and was on my way. Got to destination n dress had never been tailored. PISSED So when I return to NYC take item back and request immediate tailoring. "OH MOMMIE YOU SHOULD HAVE CALLED ME I AM BUSY TODAY" Well after words back and forth I asked for a refund. "WE DONT GIVE REFUNDS but I WILL FIX DRESS NOW." While they fixed I typed this...NEVER AGAIN YOU LOST A CUSTOMER. read more

I had a bear trappers hat that was worth $88. I always had it washed without drying at my laundromat. The people who did my laundry dried my hat which destroyed the fur and shrunk it. Instead of throwing it away I was inspired to buy a piece of fur at Fine Fabrics store and have the damaged fur resewn. I CHOSE Express tailors for the job. I asked the owners son Leo at EXPRESS TAILORS to do it and he said he would try. He did a great job and I felt they restored my hat. Thanks to SOMEONE WHO WAS WILLING TO TRY! First let me say, if you want complicated alterations on an expensive item of clothing, look elsewhere. But if you need something simple done and are in a hurry - come here! I had a last minute alteration for a dress I needed for a wedding and they turned it around in 24 hours. The work was perfectly fine and the dress fit great. I took in a dress and two pair of dress pants to be taken in. I left them on a Saturday at 5pm and they were ready for me by 1pm on Sunday. The alterations were all done very well and the price was much much cheaper--almost by half of what I would have had to pay my neighborhood dry cleaner tailor who I had been using previously. I tried them 3x, until they lost my skirt and refused to admit it. They told me I must have dropped it somewhere....which was impossible. They also do a sloppy job sometimes, and rarely meet deadlines. Not worth the trek. read more

This is first review i will give a five stars for good reason. I Have been ther before for a hem and gone to orchard to have a hem. I had a bigger issues. i had a vintage old school hip hop jacket and it was torn when i had a seizure.i just got it at good willfor like a few dolars and it was bombs. now i had pain in my life becuase i had to look at ugly tear and destroyed jacket, but i felt it could be saved, and restored. so i searched out a taylor. i went through internet, and all tailors were negative, even if they said they deal with leather. so i put it away till ihad soe money. last week i did not have mone but i felt to go back to express where ihad been told they could do it for like 30 dollars. another person on christi also said he could do it for more.. i bought a swatch of leather from place they directed me to on orchard came back and the man said he could take whole panel out and fix it like new for 40 dollars. i was nervous i would have a hack job and be miserableand broke to. but i was amazed at how fast they did this in a hour. he said next day then i said can u do it faster and he said come back at 6. i did and it was like magic. i did not have money to do this yet but my jacket is like new. i did not have to toss it or look t ugly rip again and it was worth it.. those people are born with a sewing machine. pluss they said 45 and i beat them down.. if u know how to manage dominicans and barter firmly u can control the situaiton. people on orchard were like we cant fix this toss out jacket its ruined. probably because they would take it and sew it and have a bomb jacket.. thumps up.. will use them again for pants.. and brin wine for xmas to . im just happy to have a brand new looking jacket. even if im broke.. read more

RUN, RUN, RUN! You may have had a couple of harmless experiences with them, but you should say a prayer of thanks, and then RUN! After having a few items altered with good results, I took in 7 pairs of pants and 4 sport coats, all expensive (Turnbull & Asser, Zegna, etc.). The pants needed minor work, and the jackets a bit more to look bespoke and not off the rack. The total? $720! Knowing how busy they are I told them I'd be back in two weeks, and was told to 'call before I come down.' At that time I didn't realize this was so that they would know they had a couple of hours to do the work. Two weeks go bye and when I arrive nothing is done. I show up 3 weeks later and STILL nothing is done, but Jake (front counter) tells me that he'll have them do some of the pants while I wait. I picked out 3 pair with the simplest work and left for an hour. Knowing the quality of their work (to this point) I just picked them up and left without trying them on and put them in my closet. A month later I returned, and my remaining 4 pairs of pants are nowhere to be found! The manager tells me that he'll look everywhere, including downstairs, and call me. Not having read Yelp reviews prior to this, I took the jackets and left a couple pairs of pants to be done (including one of the 3 pairs I took home previously, because they were missing the 2 front belt loops after their alteration), and said I'd pay the balance when I returned ($240). When I got home, I tried on the jackets expecting the fine work they had normally done, and OMG - two of them, an E. Zegna and a Hickey Freeman from Barney's, were totally ruined! And I mean RUINED - there is no normal man with a body shaped like the one these jackets would now fit. 3 other tailors have now assessed them and all say nothing can be done. And Express? When I returned, they had not found my pants, and NOW begin to accuse me of having picked them up already and not remembering it. The jackets? The manager looks at them and asks if anyone else had worked on them since I picked them up, because they don't look like his work. I almost lost it! And as I am getting a bit worked up, the entire lot of them begins speaking smack in Espanol. They lost 4 pairs of expensive pants and made a 5th pair unwearable, and had ruined 2 coats. Close to $4000 worth of clothes gone from my wardrobe, and I get No apologies, no nothing!! Oh wait - I didn't pay the $240 balance. Some compensation. THen the manager wants me to leave the coats with him. So after telling him about the 3 opinions obtained from true professionals, I told him just what I thought of him, his shady business ethics, the total and complete lack of professionalism of the place, and the disservice he gives to his employees by defending their shoddy work and being such a shining example of how NOT to treat customers. I sure learned a hard lesson, but from reading other reviews it is clear that THEY have not. RUN! read more
