On most occassions, they are done with the alterations in less than 2 hours. But I don't recommend eating at Katz's before trying on your pants or jeans because they may not fit when they're done altering it. I am not recommending these Dominican tailors because of price. Do they great work, I've had a pair of Seven and True Religion Jeans altered here with the original hem. BUT with that said, they don't charge an arm or a leg either, but that's just an added bonus. They've corrected many mistakes other tailors have made. So, if you have an expensive pair of jeans, be confident they will do a great job. Minus 1 star only because sometimes they close a little earlier than their stated times. But I'm usually there early afternoon. read more

Where is that zero star button when I need it. I've been using these guys for over a decade, and it's time to move on. Over the years they have done some good work, mainly the simple stuff like hemming jeans. But that was mixed with always being late, messing up jacket sleeves, making shirts too tight, and other mistakes. But I always gave them a chance to fix things. This time around, last month, they "lost" a new pair of suit pants. I should have known not to take a pair of J. Lindeberg pants to them, but I wasn't thinking, or was I just being fair? Why not give them a chance, when more expensive tailors have messed up as well? When they could not find the pants, the offer of store credit was insulting. They would have been hemming pants for me for the next 5 years! So I'm not going back, and I'll be looking for two tailors, one for cheap hems, and one for suits and expensive clothes. Life is too short to deal with this level of incompetence. read more

I needed two pairs of jeans hemmed up, and after weighing the options, I tried Express Tailor Shop for the speediness and price ($10 for an original hem). When I went in for a fitting, I felt rushed and distracted--fittings are done by a mirror right next to the counter, right in front of a man whirling away at a sewing machine, and basically in front of everyone in the store. I'm not a shy person, but I really could not concentrate on anything with all the activity and flurry of people. The man who took my measurements hardly spoke to me and acted like he was doing ME a favor. He spent no longer than 30 seconds cuffing the pants up and marking where they should have been hemmed. I dropped off the jeans around 6pm, and they were to be ready after noon the next day. Even though the ticket says they are open until 7pm, every time I called they said they would be closing at 6. I'm not sure if that's a tactic they use to keep ppl from bum rushing them last minute or what, but I was a bit annoyed about the false hours advertised--I don't usually get out of work until after 5:30 and I don't work near the LES. When I got the pants back, the hem looked good. Unfortunately, when I tried the pants on, they were each 2 inches too long. If I had been more aggressive at the fitting perhaps I would have gotten better results. But I don't think I should have to bark at someone to properly get my pants adjusted. They should be just as concerned with doing a good job as I am. I could go back to have them fix it, but I'd rather just take my business to a place where they aren't so gruff. I'll probably go back to G + G Cleaners on Grand Street. I got a dress fitted there early this year and the staff was very nice and courtesy when I went in for a fitting, and they did a great job. Their prices are a bit more expensive than Express Tailor Shop, but I'll pay the extra few bucks for their quality service and customer care. All in all, I think the quality of the work is fine, but the staff there kinda sucks b/c of their total lack of interest in their jobs and clients and do not make it a positive experience going there. BTW- I chose G + G for the dress fitting after reading that they were chosen as the best cheap tailor in NY Magazine (2005). read more

I am currently standing at Express Tailor ship, picking up a top that I was assured would be ready over an hour ago. When I walked in 20 minutes after the time it was set to be ready, they hadn't even started it yet. Someone told me it would only take 10 minutes to complete, and then I heard him tell the guy working on it in Spanish (which he assumes I can not understand) "just do the zipper and don't worry about the rest, she won't even know." I had already paid $65 for this job to be rushed and now not only is it finished but they're also trying to scam me. This is actually not the first time this has happened. One time I came to pick up a skirt, which they hadn't started on, and they literally just pressed it and gave it to me, after me paying full price. I mentioned that while I was just there and one of the guys working even said he remembered that happening. I will never return and honestly, don't even waste your time. Sure, they do a fine job at a good price, but this is New York City and tailors are a dime a dozen. Go somewhere that doesn't lie and scam. read more

Please don't waste your money like I did. Yes it is inexpensive but you get what you pay for. If you are going to experiment here I strongly recommend that it is with an item of clothing you won't miss if they mess it up. one of the simplest things I could ask them to do is replace a button on my jeans - they did so by punching a hole through them so that the new button falls all the way through and also ensures that I can never get another button put on. Hey it cost me $10 + a $200 pair of jeans. I have been here more than once and really didn't want to go back but convinced myself that you couldn't possibly mess up putting on a button. They hemmed pants for me - completely uneven..... Boyfriend was having pants marked for hemming and they marked it at least two inches too long....I called it out and then they re-marked it. I had pants taken in at the waist - completely ruined the line it by chopping the waist band in half and sewing it back together in such a way that I can never wear them. read more

Yea, so I'm one of those bitches who buys things from sample sales that aren't my size and tries to get them altered...resulting in pretty much the same cost of garment in the end. Luckily, I was recc-ed this shack of a place on Rivington during my trip back to the motherland (thanks cuzzy!) and got 3 tops taken in for about $30. NOT BAD considering they were all fancy pants type silk going out tops, AND done in under 2 hours. Can you get this type of labor abuse + efficiency + quality in London? Doubt it. Also, try to do your own measuring and pinning before you come here, or else you'll be on full display in front of all the customers. Unless you're into the whole "everybody look at me!!!!" thang (I am but not in this context) Perfect for a drop off before lunch at Hana and a cupcake at SSS. WOO! read more

I have a Mad Men premiere party tonight and finally found a vintage 50's dress to wear yesterday evening. Only problem? Could use a little taking in on the top. I looked up reviews on same day tailoring and decided to give this place a try. I was in a pinch and optimally I would've taken it somewhere in a non-rush but beggars can't be choosers. The short of it - they did a nice job. Took the dress in on both sides and shortened the straps. It took 90 minutes and when I returned I needed them to adjust one of the straps again, but all in all - can't believe I got the dress done in under 2 hours. There are only men working in this shop which was a first for me, and about 4-5 sewing machine stations in a row where everyone was working non-stop. Paid $35. Decent for the quick turnaround and I have no complains about the alterations whatsoever. I can't speak to complex alterations but I can say they did a nice job on my dress, it fits so much better now, and they were really gracious when I asked for the adjustment on the strap. Great in a pinch - might try them again for some of my more expensive denim hems too. read more

Those people are horrible . I spent almost $1500 a year for the last 10 years . And I have to admit . They don't have any sense of customer service . They lost my 3 items for almost 2 years . I came every 3 month giving my phone number . They finally took me to the basement where we found my dresses , the leather totally stained from the water that fell on it . Not the best work I've had done, but they definitely know the current style and fit of clothes and have a good eye for what needs to be done. If you have a only a few items, the turnaround can be super quick. I brought one shirt to get done and the price point was really decent for the amount of work getting done. The stitching wasn't completely straight, but it fit really well. Subsequently I brought my entire wardrobe and had everything altered. Honestly it all fits a ton better now. They have 3 dressing rooms right in the front and you can even watch the work being done. Their time estimates aren't the best, but the work gets done. In terms of the other tailors in the neighborhood, they are all similarly competitive in terms of pricing. Bummer that they over doubled their prices over the last year, so gotta drop the rating for price to quality ratio increasing. AKA SUPER price hike and variable quality of work. Sad since I used to come here all the time for years. read more

I brought them material and they duplicated a pair of Christian Dior slacks that I had since 2005. I couldn't wear them anymore because they were a size 29 and I'm about a 32 waist now. I've patronized this establishment for over 10 years. I can't even count the slacks, jeans and shirts I've gotten done here. I love the work. Back in the 90s i used to cuff my baggie jeans. Like their name says, this is the place to go when you need something altered, Pronto. I've taken numerous items to be altered here and have always had positive results (with one exception which they were quick to fix). You can drop off a bag of a half dozen items, go around the corner for a drink, and when you come back everything is ready, and I'm not just talking about a pants hem here. I've had dresses taken in, straps shortened, sleeves shortened and cuffs reattached, etc. I've also seen them shorten jeans and reattach the original hem. These prices are so stinkin cheap, its worth the subway ride to the lower east side. They did an excellent job with several pairs of jeans, and put the original hems on them, so they don't look like they've been altered. They also put some darts in a few shirts so i don't have to look like my dad in a dress shirt anymore! I've taken things here for a couple of years now. INEXPENSIVE they are not! I had some fantasy about low prices, but they do a very good job of tailoring, they are reasonably speedy and they're a fun group of MEN to poke and pin you. I schlepped clothing all the way from L.A. and it probably was cheaper than having it done here-and actually easier for me to pack and bag than to navigate getting to my cleaners here. I'm not sure this is the way to go if you're traveling, but...I had used another tailor around the corner the last time and while they were ok, I THOUGHT they were too expensive. Four more shirts and a quick fix on a blazer pocket later, this place is very well deserving of five stars. $15 to magically transform a "slim fit" shirt into something that looks custom tailored for my build. The stitching is not perfect, but for the price I don't mind cutting a few loose strings off before wearing. Small alterations are done while you wait, but full on resizing takes a few days. Best of all, the shop has a few fitting rooms located inside. so you don't have to go home to try out the finished products. read more

You know I used to love going ot this place to get my pants hemmed. They're been in business for a very long time but I have noticed that the quality has gone down while the prices have gone down. The manager is a cool guy but, they might be rushing jobs at this point. I've dropped off pants I didn't care TOO much about but, if you want it done relaly well, I'd recommend mentioning that and not just waiting an hour for pickuup. Great tailors. They are out of my way, but worth the trip. I have a pair of gorgeous vintage 501's that I was afraid to screw up. The ladies at Reformation recommended I take them here and it was the best decision EVER. They did a fantastic and FAST job tapering my jeans. Bottom line up front: I found my new go-to tailor in town. Unbeatable price...and in this case you get much, much more than you pay for. --- Went there on Tuesday to get 2 suits tailored (pants hemmed, sleeves shortened). I brought my favorite suit as a template, but Angel kindly educated me that no 2 suits are the same (by showing inseam measurements), and had me try everything on. 3 day turnaround time (after explaining I was in no rush at all), 88% of work was perfect, save for one sleeve that was a 1/4" too long (hey it's tailoring after all). Recommended from a coworker. Fairly decent pricing for NYC ($40 for a job that was quoted $75 elsewhere) but although they said it would be ready on a Thursday at 2pm, I arrived Thursday at 6pm to pick up and it was not ready. They told me to wait 20 mins while they did it, I waited. As I waited, I was joined by multiple other people waiting for their clothes. A lady even mentioned that she dropped off her dress 3.5 weeks ago! They drop whatever they are doing to START working on your clothes once you are already there to pick up and then make you wait. They definitely lack organization which is very obvious. Straps of clothes all over the floor. Piles of clothes everywhere on tables and hung, if they are going to have such heavy volume, they need to better organize the clothes but even some of the employees did not even know what pile was what. Many times I saw customers come pick up their clothes and the employees could not find it They even asked a guy that came to pick up a suit, suit jacket and 2 pants if he needed a bag.... no, I am gonna carry a pile of clothes in my hands -__- Dont give me a pick up date and time if you are not going to abide by it. I picked up the pants only to see they weren't done how I'd asked. When I said this, they told me if I wanted it done right, they would charge me again and double my wait time. I've been fitted many many times and I know what's necessary touching and what isn't. Repeatedly caressing my waist and commenting on my looks isn't necessary for pant hemming, for example. My first experience here was good, but over the course of this past year, I've brought several items to alter/tailor and the work has been very mixed. Most of the jobs have been "good enough", but often times I had to have them redo a few pieces. On top of that, last time I came for a simple alteration to one of my old dresses and they botched it up so bad that I cant even wear it anymore. Im sorry but don't tell me you can fix something and make me pay $50(nonrefundable) for a job if you cannot do it. They gave me store credit for f?@!ing up my dress so I came back one final time. I went to pick up my stuff yesterday and they altered my coat but not the way I wanted. When I told them that I thought it needed to be taken in more, Joseph (the main fitting guy) proceeded to try and convince me that the job was fine. When I still complained, he proceeded to talk speak to one of the other tailors about me in Spanish. I was so infuriated that I called him out, took my stuff and stormed out. Besides the subpar work, I'll never return here is because the main fitting guy, Joseph is creepy and inappropriate as hell. Everytime I would walk in, he would stare at me with bugged out eyes. Also, as stated by a previous reviewer, he carresses a bit more than he should while fitting/pinning and on more than one occasion, he has asked me if he can call me. Um, HELL NO! I had to go to the store 3 times because the pants weren't done, weren't completed and when I finally got my clothing it took an hour because they had to "finish". This place USED to be the best. However, I went recently and for the first time was told I'd have to come back in a few days. Went back at the time written on my receipt & was told nothing was ready & to come back in 2 hours. Went back in 2 hours & was told they were being ironed--waited another 30 mins. Then had a disagreement about the bill. I always paid $5 to have pants shortened or the bottoms tapered. Now they charged me $10. NEVER AGAIN! read more
