Dave is just super calm and composed all the time and knows it's difficult for someone who's diving for the first time. He actually pushed me to breakthrough my fear of breathing under water. Maiah was an amazing instructor too and went over all the basics once before getting into the ocean and once under water. My wife actually couldn't breathe out of the regulator in the end and Peter rushed to the rescue and calmly brought her up. Cheers Peter! Eric from the company refunded us for her second dive. So pleasant to deal with nice people. Very professional and very safe. we have been diving with EH for almost 20 years and have never been disappointed. we reached out to Erik and Victoria to get our 15 year old daughter certified, there was no other dive operator we trusted to do it! frannie did a great job with our daughter's checkout dives. we also did shore dives with gabi and frannie, they were terrific, knowing and attentive dive masters. although EH lost their shop and boat in the Lahaina fire, their services are seamless. we are so happy to continue diving with them and hope to continue to do so in the years to come. read more

I called a number of dive operators to try and set up a 2-tank dive for our trip to Maui. Left a lot of messages. Victoria from Extended Horizons called me back within a few minutes. She was super helpful and answered every question. I wanted to dive Cathedrals off Lanai, but their boat Captain was off island during the time. She set up a 2-tank shore dive for us in Honalua Bay. We received follow-up emails for waivers, to confirm our certifications, and to just check in in the weeks leading up to the dive. The morning of, we went to their small shop in Lahaina. We were greeted by our Dive Master, Brad. He was AWESOME. Super-enthusiastic without being a cheerleader, very helpful in getting all our gear sorted, getting us briefed for the dive, and getting us directions to the site. Even brought a couple of different wetsuits for me just in case the first didn't fit with all the gear. (I'm 6-0/193 pounds. 48 jacket, 32 waist.) All the gear fit great. The walk from the parking area to the beach was a little treacherous in full kit, (wetsuits, BCD's, weights, etc.). Brad was again totally on top of if. The dives themselves were fantastic. Lots of turtles, beautiful fish, incredible coral, and on the way back from the first tank, a Bigfin Reef Squid joined and swam with us most of the way back to shore. Brad was one of the best DM's we have dived with. Enthusiastic, very knowledgeable, and exceptionally safety conscious. Thank you so much Brad, Victoria, and everyone at Extended Horizons. Diving with Extended Horizons is a great experience. The crew is exceptionally service oriented, skilled and knowledgeable about the dive locations, fish and mammals (i.e., whales, monk seals) and the mechanics / safety aspects of diving Dive groups are always small and they do a good job of working with newer and more experienced divers during the same trip. They also take input on dive sites and attempt to provide an experience that meets a group's varied expectations. Due to COVID, prices are up and number of divers allowed on the boat down so you might be a bit surprised at the cost. To compensate, dive time has been extended to max 70 minutes and you will likely dive in a group of 3 or 4. With smaller groups there is a great chance to experience even familiar sites in a new way. We visited a lava tube near Lighthouse that I must have swum by a dozen times before - this time we went in and it was amazing. We also had more time to just kind of hang out if something was interesting. Pre and post briefings are very good. Also due to COVID, the food on board has gotten MUCH better. Fresh melon and a turkey wrap all individually wrapped with a better cookie on the way back to port. Trips to and from Lanai include a generous opportunity for whale watching - so consider that in the value received. I fully trust these guys to deliver a great diving experience on Maui. read more

Our instructor was Hannah and she did a phenomenal job! My dad and I came to get PADI open water certified and we signed up for the 3-day course. We spent the first day doing skills testing and the 2nd and 3rd days with more actual diving with skills tests mixed in. The final dive on the 3rd day was my favorite - Mala Pier!! Underwater wreck dive (basically a scuba obstacle course) with plenty of fish and sea turtles. I recommend Hannah as an instructor and a great dive buddy all-around. She is patient and observant underwater, always pointing out cool sea critters and sharing in the fun! Wow! Who would of thought I'd learn to snorkel, and my husband, who is a beginner swimmer was right there with me! Our instructor was so patient. I went out on a second dive and saw a reticulated eel, a green turtle and a young hooksbill turtle. What fun! Time to get certified so I can do it some more! read more

This review might be my fault because I called the same day to make reservations for scuba diving. I was looking for an introductory dive for my brother and I this past weekend. When I called, Lisa told me she wasn't sure if it was possible because it was so late in the day. Then later I was told that someone would be able to do an afternoon dive with us. We met at the warehouse where we received the training and testing. We fitted for our equipment there and had to follow behind in our car to the beach. I was given a wet suit that was only shorts (I called later and they said that because it was only a shore dive that sometimes only shorts are provided.) At the beginning of the dive I didn't think much of it but after is when I realized that it did matter whether or not I had the full wet suit. I was weighted with 12lbs, which was supposed to keep me from floating back up, but was told later that that might've been too heavy for me. I kept scraping my legs on the coral (which I know I wasn't even supposed to be disrupting). Attached are some photos of my scrapes. Our instructor did a great job of keeping me calm but I could've had a better first experience with scuba. I may try it again but not with this company. Not what I expected for the $130 each diver that I paid. read more

Extended Horizons came highly recommended from my go to dive shop in Oahu. I knew I could trust them and reached out to Erik and Melissa to book my first dive trip to Maui. Erik was super accommodating and ensured that my friends and I could dive the Carthaginian wreck and Lanai on a Saturday (best of both worlds). The first day we dove with Victoria and she was awesome. A nice leisurely dive in which she pointed out quite a few endemic species of fish along with finding some cool nudibranches. The First Cathedral which was probably my favorite dive location for this trip as the lace work of lava allows sunshine to shine through creating an amazing stained glass like window. We also found Hawaiian Sergeant who was protecting a nice wall of purple eggs, which was the first I've ever seen and super cool. Loved how the dive masters do a recap of all the different fish and marine life after each dive. Also doesn't hurt to have witnessed a full humpback breach and also around 100-200 dolphins swimming along side on our way back after 2 awesome dives, thanks to captain Raquel. The second day, we were led by Mike who once again pointed out some awesome sea life. Overall an awesome 2 days of diving with 2 very competent dive masters. A true full service charter who takes care of your gear before and after all of your dives ( believe me .. I'm super anal about my dive gear ). Mahalo to everyone at Extended Horizons and would recommend their services in a heartbeat to anyone looking for a dive charter on Maui! Can't wait to head back to check out some other dive spots. read more

I've never gone scuba diving before, buut..this was definitely not the positive, exciting first experience I expected. At all. I came with my ex boyfriend during my last year of college and he was super super supportive and encouraging for me underwater, but the rest of the experience was overwhelmingly negative. I'll start of with the instructor, because at the end of the day that was probably the most important to me - he's the guy who's taking you into the depths of the ocean, the one you're supposed to trust with your life. Anyway, he seemed pissed off and in a sour mood when we arrived, huffing with an air. It was good that he went over fish ahead of time, and interesting to hear about the invasive species, rock-like camoflouge one, Hawaii state fish (my fave), black/yellow ones, butterfly fish, common puffer fish, the ones that eat/poop all the dirt on the Hawaii beaches (lol..), how 25% of fish there (Maui/HI) were endemic to Hawaii and more. But, he *did not answer questions!!* it's like, dude, you should know this well enough not to get distracted..aalso, we were his very only customers at that time! Just the two of us and him. He also didn't explain the basics to us well enough (it was both our first times) since both of us ended up in awful pain. Once the instructor realized that I was in pain from the water going into my eyes from the goggles, weight digging into my hipbones, and most of all the acute but unbearable pain in my ears going down, he got a bit nicer and more supportive, but still not enough for me. I felt terrified underwater near the ground and the only calming presence was my boyfriend continuously looking at me, holding me and trying to otherwise make sure I was okay (while he was also confused and in pain, but sweetly trying to take care of me). Another problem with this experience was that there was umm almost no fish!! :-o I saw more during my times snorkeling in Hawaii than this scuba diving trip. Our time was also cut off short, 20 mins instead of 45 mins. Oh, and my bf's ears hurt so much from going down too that he ended up spitting blood afterwards (he said the instructor told him that he probably popped a couple capillaries)!!! So, yeah. I was terrified of going scuba diving for years afterwards and finally tried it again in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia last summer and there the experience was incredible - felt safe, very well-taught, no pain at all. So it really matters to get a very good instructor your first time!!! read more

I cannot say enough good things about the Extended Horizons crew and operation! The entire crew was happy to be out on the water, share their knowledge, be attentive to all diver needs without making it feel cloying to seasoned divers, and general friendly and caring demeanor truly made my dive a wonderful experience! I have been diving for 18 years and have witnessed great dive operations, terrible operations, and just plain Jane operations. Aarika, Johnny, and Chris were incredibly knowledgeable, attentive to individual diver needs, adaptive/responsive to diver skill sets and abilities, and very gracious overall. I just completed my PADI OWD certification course with these guys, and it couldn't have been better!! These guys are real professionals - they have all the great gear and equipment, they follow all the right protocols and the people are just amazing! After having a terrible experience diving with another dive shop, I was a bit terrified to go diving again. But my instructor Maiah was simply amazing! She was calm, patient, thorough. She made sure I feel comfortable and let me learn all the skills at my own pace. She made sure the dives were both a learning experience and that we have fun. I simply couldn't have been more satisfied - choose Extended Horizons if you want to learn diving and ask for Maiah!! I had earlier signed up for owd certification with another dive shop (scuba mike maui) and had a really really terrible experience as the instructor was super rude impatient and unprofessional. I had almost given up on diving. But so glad I didn't and chose to go for it again with Maiah. These guys are amazing! read more

Our recent trip to Maui was a challenge as there had been a lot of rain the previous week and the forecast was that it would continue. I called the local dive shops and then I called a friend to ask her who I should book my dive through as she works on a Maui Dive boat herself. She recommended Extended Horizons. It was a wonderful experience. My wife and I both dove and our friend went along to snorkel. It was a Lanai trip. The cost was $200 each for the diving and $100 for the snorkel. The water was excellent and very clear so they did a good job picking spots. The first dive was Knob Hill. One of the dive guides was excited, apparently the currents don't allow them to stop there too often. The highlight was a well hidden (in plain sight) Frogfish. So cool. Our second dive was Cathedral One which is quite the experience. Again a large variety of sea life including a spotted eagle ray, a couple more frogfish--which by the way never move and blend into the rock like they are part of it. As far as I know, the dive guides keep rubber frogfish in their suits and plant them on the rocks so they can sell their frogfish t-shirts later. We also saw an awesome GREAT WHITE .... tip reef shark. The employees are super nice and the experience was definitely a wonderful highlight of our week in Maui!!! read more

After not being diving for 11 years, my husband and I decided to take a refresher lesson and we had Anika and Chris taking us and a friend and we had the most wonderful time with them. Chris was with me the whole time since I had to take my confidence back and he helped me in every single way. Over the course of a week, my husband and I each did two two-tank shore dives, one two-tank twilight/night dive, and one two-tank boat dive in Lanai. Johnny was our divemaster for one shore dive and the evening dive, and Jason was our divemaster for the other shore dive and the boat dive. I cannot recommend this shop and these divemasters highly enough! Their professionalism, concern for divers safety and comfort, and knowledge of the environment is really incredible. Of course no one can guarantee that you see anything in particular during a dive, but because the divemasters are trained naturalists, they know how to find cool stuff! They carry a etch-a-sketch type thing that they can write messages on. They go slow to make sure you have a chance to see the cool animals for as long as you want. We saw so many great animals during our dives! The Lanai Cathedrals are what everyone goes to Maui for, but honestly our dives off of Mala Pier were our favorites. Don't forget to do some shore dives (or local boat dives) if you're in Maui!! Extended Horizons really goes the extra mile in service. They happily take care of all aspects of your gear for you (even if you are providing your own gear). We rented everything from them, but saw what they did with others. They also really look out for your safety. I had a difficult entry during one shore dive and Jason was really patient with me until we got it sorted out! Prior to our night dive, Johnny scoped out several locations so we could find the best one for us, as it was our first time and we all wanted to be very safe! On the boat, they have a mesh lining on the roof so you can store materials there, as well as hanging sunglasses holders to keep your sunglasses safe! They also have a dry area if you don't have your own dry bag. They provide a freshwater shower to use after your dives, and have a freshwater cooler to store cameras in between dives. Captain Aarika was very kind, safe, and helpful as well. This was the best run boat I've ever been on for diving! I loved how they are very committed to the environment! The shop runs on solar power, the boat runs on vegetable oil from restaurants, and the staff are trained naturalists who know a lot about the environment and also give you tips about being a good diver in these environments. On the boat, they provide water in reusable bottles so there is no waste. We also spent some time in the shop with owner Eric and office manager Mel. Both were really lovely folks. Prices are fair market value for diving, not particularly high or low. I was pleased to hear from the divemasters that they are paid well for their work (not always the case with dive shops!), but don't forget to tip them for their service! If we go back to Maui, Extended Horizons will be the only people we dive with! read more

Loved it! This was my first post certification dive and I couldn't have been happier. I was lucky enough to have Emma as my dive partner/leader. Her knowledge of the area and of the wildlife are phenomenal. The equipment all performed well with no problems. On this trip I only did a shore dive, but they also offer boat dives, which I will do for sure when I return. The facility is clean and well maintained. The prices are competitive and reasonable. We can't say enough about Phillip with Extended Horizons Scuba Maui ! We dove with him yesterday and he was so awesome we went again today. Yesterday we dove Mala Pier - OMG...so many turtles , the turtle cleaning station was legit, white tip sharks , lots of beautiful fish . Today we dove Black Rock Beach....started at one end and came out another, that was pretty cool. I saw more eels in one single dive today than I have combined of all my diving, good amount of large puffer fish and the visibility was amazing !!! I highly recommend 'em and I'd request Phillip... I followed up an earlier dive with Gu by convincing the clan to go diving in the "discover" scuba dive. There were 4 additional divers, one 75, one 22, and two in their 40s. Gu and Shelby were great! Incredibly attentive and helpful, even with very nervous divers. I enjoyed the dive so much that I added on a second dive at Mala pier with Shelby... she did a great job leading the charge, though the tide was very low, and getting out to the dive site proved awkward and painful! 5 stars for G and Shelby! 5 stars for the dive locations and tour... I lowered my rating to 4 stars because the equipment had leaking o-rings, which added to everyone's anxiety. read more

I did an open water referral for my open water certification. The entire experience was fantastic. Booking was really straightforward (just one quick phone call), and the training in the water went off without a hitch. All rental gear fit great & was in good condition. I was still a bit nervous after the pool training but Emma definitely calmed my nerves. She is a great instructor - very knowledgeable and encouraging. She clearly explained all the different skills & answered many of my questions. On each training dive we were able to have some time to explore & she would point out & write out the names of cool critters. Awesome. We finished all our skills on the first three dives so for the last dive we got to explore Mala Wharf which was something I'll definitely remember for the rest of my life. read more

We booked a Lanai morning dive with this dive op for a Saturday. Maui diving is expensive compared to the Caribbean waters in Mexico ($159/person for 2 tank dive). We were excited to take a boat out to Lanai and finally dive some deeper waters (we had been doing shore dives on our own). Boat: funny to see a boat out of water coming up the driveway as we waited at Mala Wharf. That was a sight you don't see everyday. Crew: We had Captain Joe with DMs Ashley and Noie that day. Both were really nice from the start, set up our gear. When we got on the boat, they both gave briefings then split us into groups. We were with Ashley, who was outgoing and personable and really nice. I could tell safety was her priority as well as identifying all these cool fish. Sites: Our first dive site was Secret Cove, which took about 45 minutes to get to from Maui. Took the giant stride out and used the moor-line to descend. You probably didn't need to use the moor-line, but I used it anyway. The briefing made this site sound really cool, with a max depth of about 75'. However, I found it to be a tad boring. There were cool looking corals but we basically followed a wall for 15 minutes and that was about it. Just went around in circles, staying close to the moor-line. Our second dive site was the 2nd Cathedrals. Much, much better. This had cool tunnels to go through, awesome little caves with nooks and crannies to check out. But again, we did stay in the same spot for most of the dive, which was about 30 minutes. But this was a beautiful dive site which lots to see and lots of tunnels and passageways. Wish we could've explore more. Both my husband and I came up with plenty of air left too. This dive op definitely plays it safe. My husband ascend both times with 1000 psi or more left over. We also didn't venture out much either. I guess we were used to the drift dives in Cozumel where you're not staring at the same thing for more than 2-3 minutes. Surface interval seemed shorter than it should've been. We are used to an hour SI but it seemed like 30 minutes or so. During the SI, there were bagels, water, juice, and fruit, which were great to snack on. I thought the boat was plenty big, and not cramped at all. It even had a toilet, which I've never seen. We saw some spinner dolphins on our ride back to Maui (which I unfortunately got very sea sick). read more
