BEWARE of bait and switch on rental fees. I paid a moving company $475 to move my belongings into a small storage space. The monthly rental was quoted at $71. 3 months later it went to $120. Next month its going up to $148. These people are not held to any consumer laws in the state id MD, they can jack up your rent anytime they want. And they dont give you a printed contract. They rely on that too. I am getting out of there as soon as possible, before it goes up to $200 NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU DONT MIND GETTING RIPPED OFF. read more

** MOLD ** RENT CREEP ** Avoid Extra Space Storage at 2005 Trout Rd., Annapolis, MD, at all costs. $$ RENT CREEP $$ - My rent has increased from $135/month to $242/month (80%) in only two years. The contract gives them the right to raise rents at their discretion. That might seem reasonable because many people rent for a long time, and they should have the right to increase rates every few years. However, please do not believe that they will not abuse their privilege. They raise rates every four months like clockwork. All those $15 to $20 increases accumulate over time. I believe that is their game: advertise phenomenal rents, then ratchet them up as fast as possible. MOLD! MOLD!! MOLD!!! - I rented a climate-controlled unit because I am storing valuable furniture. A layer of mold now covers everything in my unit. I am not talking about a little bit of mold. I am talking about extensive saturation of mold on everything in the unit. I brought the situation to the attention of the management. To say that the manager (Sabrina, I think) was indignant would be an understatement. First, she tried to blame me, saying that I probably brought the mold in from my previous storage location. I explained that the items were in my home, and I believed the mold was from the climate in the building being cold and dank like a cave. She said they do not guarantee the climate in their "climate-controlled" units. It is not just my unit. The entire hallway smells of mold. I imagine all the units in the 400 building have mold issues. Also, be forewarned that the "first month free" promotion is disingenuous. The upfront "service charges" accumulate to approximately the "first month's rent." Shady business practices all around. read more

Very deceptive business practices. I'm on auto pay for my storage unit and the price has gone up 3 times since I rented a storage unit 9 months ago. It has now DOUBLED in price. This months increase was $100! That was a 30% increase! I called to discuss and was told that increase notifications get mailed out (as in snail mail) and that per the contract I signed they can raise the rent anytime to adjust to "market conditions". So yeah, no thanks. None of this was mentioned when I met with the office and signed up. So, if you go there and they give you a monthly price that seems fair, just know that price will only be good for a short time, and they get to decide when they raise the price and by how much, whenever they feel like it. read more

I would give zero stars if I could due to rate increases. Do your research first. We were "offered" an "online" rate. 3 months later, virtually doubled in price. No additional services offered, but apparently in those three months, the demand for storage space has doubled. We are half way across the world but are now coordinating with friends and family to remove our belongings from this scam. read more

The place is clean and well kept, and we never had a problem getting a cart, and the rating would be higher, if they didn't play nasty pricing games: They claim on a big that you get the 1st month free when you sign up, BUT if you go on line there is a lower price if you just sign up. If you ask for the 1st month free, they charge more in the monthly fee, so the 1st month is actually MORE expensive. They were unhelpful when I tried to discuss the pricing issue. read more

Very clean and well kept indoor, climate controlled storage facility. The price sort of creeped up from their initial $69 per month to $87, not sure how that happened! But either way, if you want storage close to the mall in Annapolis, which is safe and secure, this is the place. They are very friendly and helpful. The elevators are secure with codes as wells as the entrance doors and gate to the facility. My items were there almost two years and there was less dust on them than stuff in my basement. :) I did not look at the outdoor (non climate controlled) units, but they looked good too. read more

Edit after owner response: every time I've spoken to management they basically tell me this was MY fault for leaving my things there "at my own risk." I left them in a CLIMATE CONTROLLED UNIT that was not properly climate controlled. This is 100% their fault and they are not taking any responsibility. I've been in contact with many others all over the country that had the same experience; one person lost almost everything they owned. I will be taking legal action and I strongly urge you to use another storage facility. They will not protect your belongings and they don't care about their customers at all. read more

Clean and safe storage facility with super easy move in/move out procedures. I kept my stuff in there for a little over a year without any damages to any items- however after a year they upped my monthly payments by $20, which I thought was kind of ridiculous. But if you just need to store your stuff a couple months there shouldn't be any issues. read more

I am supposed to have access to my until 10:00 PM. I went at 3:00 PM and the elevators were not working. I attempted to call customer service and it took me 10 minutes to get through to a representative. The representative did her best; however, they could not resolve the issue because the manager did not answer his phone. This is not a minor inconvenience. I had a truck full of belongings that I needed to get into storage. This was a huge waste of time and I would not expect this kind of poorly managed facilities from a company like extra space. read more

Don't DO IT!!! I went to my unit with friends to help me pull my stuff out and reorganize it. I opened the door and found in the front, my roll of paper towels were chewed through with mice droppings around it. I called the office rep down. She took photos, gave me three packets of poison(stated that was all she had). When I asked about a trap or pest control, she stated " well they come every two weeks and they just came so I'll let them know when they come in two weeks." No offer to call them or have them come sooner... Please note. I also told her My friends were helping me pull everything out to reorganize my unit(I have a shoulder injury). She didn't offer a new unit either. She also mentioned"it's weird, we never see mice on this side." Pulled everything out, saw some drippings, noted a hole on the back of my couch. I was hoping it was from moving although we didn't see it when we moved it in. I was going to put a plastic bin of drawers with shoes, boots etc in my car but realized it was too heavy. I opened it and grabbed a pair of sneakers without really looking and that was then I grabbed MICE NEST. They nested in my $160 brooks running shoes. Droppings and nice pee on the other shoes. The nest made of backing of my couch, paper towels, hair and who knows what else. I cried and honestly didn't know what to do. Pushed the customer service button while at this point I only had one friend with me, we received no response and the office was closed. We left the bin in the hallway know if call early. Called and notified the main number in the am, the building manager called and was VERY rude. She told me she needed to see the couch, when I explained I would not be able to move it with my shoulder there was no offer to help. She mentioned possible a different unit. When I brought up the comment made about mice not being on that side, she pushed that aside. She kept saying it was a learning chance for the girl at the location but never mentioned fixing this problem in a way of helping me. She then said that nothing would be reimbursed and they don't do that. Tell me again why she needed to see my couch???? No offer to get someone to help move units, no offer of a reduced rent but on top of it she said"we are going to throw away the bin." I said it's Friday at 6 pm and I'm on my way to NYC. She said "well you left it outside the unit." I argued with her that I needed time to contact insurance(who doesn't cover rodents BTW) but she she said she would be throwing it away. I hung up.... To this day, a week later. Nothing's been done. While rodents can happen in units, being proactive, helpful and not making it worse for the customer is key. I pay $180 a Month and still nothing. read more

i'm a regular extra space storage customer for about 2 years. i pay $290 a month , i see online special $192 a month ? why am i paying $100 a month more for the exact same unit ? i guess being a good paying customer with extra space cost more for being loyal. go figure this is a scam if i ever saw ...get in cheap and then raise the price.. " its in your contarct ". dosent mean its ethical.....seriously who would do that to there customers !! there needs to be a law against this kind of business practice....im so getting ripped off...go elsewhere ....unbelievable !!!! read more

WARNING!!!!! FACILITY HAS MOLD ISSUES! DO NOT USE. We went to remove our items from storage and mold was covering our furniture. There was mold on unit walls and we were told there was nothing they could do. We had to throw out a couch. They claim it is "climate controlled" yet our stuff was ruined. DO NOT Recommend using this place if you expect that your items will be safe and protected. I basically ended up paying for Extra Space storage to ruin my stuff and was told there was nothing they could do about it. read more
