Went to my unit tonight and after going through a gated access entry and another access code to get into the building only to find my unit broken into and burglarized. Called the Extra Space storage support and they took down information of what was missing and was advised also to call Long Beach PD. When Long Beach PD came the officer told me that I was his 4th call regarding a unit being broken into for the day in this same location. Yes 4th call in a day reporting their units burglarized at the same location. The officer was nice to show me how possibly the thieves got into the unit and even with double locks it was useless. Basically the officer said there was possibly a dozen storage units that was broken into, but not all have visited their units yet to report their unit being broken into. So their statement that there is a live-in manager in place and safe and secure is a bunch of bullshit marketing line that means just a bunch of crap. Now I lost about 20K that this place isn't going to do anything to get it back to you. Yeah by the way, this place doesn't have cameras installed on the 2nd floor nor any of the hallways so take your risk. read more

This location opens at 9:30 not 6:00 am as the website states. I went to my storage on a Sunday and found a different lock on my unit. The office was closed so I called the main office. They did not add or change locks. So apparently someone has been in my unit. Went there this morning to get it straightened out and they're closed! Ugh!!! Online my unit is $154, I pay $320. What's up with that? Update: Christina found my unit was entered 3/20 and locks changed. Boxes were gone thru, nothing worth taking. She gave me an extra lock, so my unit now has 2. Reserved a unit to move in in a few weeks and was told certain price and I would get a call if changes. Never received a call or anything. So I call to official start renting and was told the price doubled and they won't honor what they told me before. Don't waste your time. Find other locations. Was also told they will charge up your rent after a few months. They attract you with a low price but you don't get to keep that price :( read more

I had a storage unit at this location for just over a year. It is a friendly and clean facility, but storage units get broken into a lot here. When I first signed up for a unit, the lady in the front office was going on and on about how each unit is alarmed. When you enter the gate you enter your code, and that will let the system know your unit will be accessed. Then when you leave you enter your code one more time to let the system know that the unit is alarmed. I thought this was great! Until I had a theft. I had a large majority of equipment from my small business stolen. I took pictures and filed a police report. I notified the front office and they came up and took pictures of their own. I mentioned to the police officer, that the facility has each unit alarmed, and during his investigation it turned out to be false. Extra space storage was unable to provide any information regarding the units being individually alarmed. And of course it is a headache dealing with the insurance company. I would not recommend storing your belongings here. The front office staff and the company provide no support when my items are stolen despite touting that they had a security system in place when they did not. read more

Be very careful if you want your stuff to be safe. There is a growing homeless encampment right behind the building in riverbed bike path and no one seems to be doing anything about it. I'd be very very cautious about security. read more

Really it's a minus 5 stars. A month after not providing enough security for our unit ( what else are they supposed to do? ) they have raised the rent AGAIN. WHAT NERVE. So I called and complained and they decided "not to renew our lease" Honestly the kick in the ass I needed to get out of there. I have found a SECURE location at far less money. Yippee. I just moved to US Storage in Westminster and they are FANTASTIC! They are actually the bizzaro version of this place. They are kind, clean, secure and reasonable. read more

Be very cautious of this storage unit. I've had a unit for over 20 years and just recently discovered that my unit was burglarized. What was disturbing to me was that the employee advised me that there was a prior burglary in the same area and none of the other tenants were notified and the burglary of my unit was in the exact same manner. I was also advised that although they have a fence surrounding the property, the doors are left unlocked at night so tenants with 24 hour access could enter. Of course, this left all the other tenants at risk. I was told the reason the doors were left unlocked without any kind of security was that this was a very low crime area and nothing like this had happened in the past. When I called Long Beach Police Department regarding the burglary, I was advised that numerous reports were made of items stolen from this facility. When I spoke with the manager at the facility, she mentioned that the only time she knew of a of an issue was four months ago. Not very good at keeping tabs on what was happening at the facility you manage. If you choose to use a storage unit at this facility, just beware that their security is not as good as they say or advertise. In fact, the only time they change their practices is after somebody has lost their property or been burglarized. Just a ridiculous way to do business. I would highly suggest that anyone looking for a storage unit look somewhere else. read more

I have been at this storage place 11 years. They have gone through at least 3 owner changes during that time. I know rates increase over the years, but ESS has increased my rate every 6 months since they bought the place. Ridiculous and not seeing any reason for the high prices. All they've done is paint the place green. Time to seriously get rid of this stuff so I can get rid of tbem. read more
