This location is trash. My unit was broken into and their mediocre attempt to notify me of the break in was an email with a subject line that looked like spam. Did I have insurance on the unit? Yes. Did they pay me for my losses? No. Avoid this location and storage company, there are far better options out there. read more

Beware they will raise the cost of your rental unit without warning within *months* of your signing up. Is this even legal? They don't tell you that they'll raise your rent to "market rate" when they gladly take your money when you first rent a unit. Extra space storage is a huge scam!!! They have purchased many fake five-star reviews on Google Maps. Look how many of these people have only reviewed this place and nowhere else! Re: Extra Space reply. "Rising costs of top notch storage." Ha! More like bait and switch. You advertise one price and then conveniently raise it as soon as your customer puts their things in. this place is super cheat. I paid 150+ tax for the starting unit so I can store some things away and leave it away there. I did it for a few months and then I went to look at my next bill and the bill had gone from 150 to 2:50 without any sort of notice without any sort of anything, it was $100 rent increase from one month to the next on the third to the fourth month. That is absolutely robbery and it's fact they say anything about it infuriates me everyone make sure to check your own bill to make sure they're not jumping the rate on it. And if you notice that they do move over to public storage they're much more trustworthy. read more

Susie and Beth have made my father's and my experience at the Extra Space Santa Monica Blvd. at Van Ness location wonderful for the many years they have been managers there. They are kind, super compitent and truly caring. They always made us feel like they remembered us, which, in deed, they really did. After my father passed away two years ago on Thanksgiving, I set about slowly removing his and my things and just this past week, the day after Thanksgiving, closed out our family's unit. Susie was sad to see us go and I was too, though I no longer needed the space. We remininsced a bit about my dad. You can't ask for more caring managers. They are true gems!!! read more

Do not rent from Extra Space Storage. 1. Hidden in their agreement is that they can (and do) raise your rent at any time. 2. After ONE MONTH at the advertised rate that I signed up for ($167/mo) they raised it by 50%!!! 3. Without notice!!! 4. Only when I called them on this did they agree to a PARTIAL refund, and would not guarantee future increases would not happen. 5. They also changed my access code without notice, so when I went to my unit weeks later, I could not get in without another renter giving me their access code. I am REPORTING THIS BUSINESS TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. Do NOT rent with Extra Money Storage!!! read more

I am SO glad I decided to rent a storage space here! I am currently at Public Storage located at 6840 Santa Monica Blvd. and the hours of that location suck! I can only access my unit on the weekends because I work during the week and it shouldn't be that way for storage. They are also more expensive. Susie was fantastic! She set me up in a storage unit just the right size for some of my belongings, was personable and super helpful. The hours at this location are also amazing. Definitely will make it easy to access my storage whenever I need to. I highly recommend this place! read more

I'll be needing to rent a storage unit in a few months, so I decided to check out some local facilities. I stopped here today and was warmly greeted by Beth. I immediately felt not only welcomed, but very comfortable. She went over everything I'd need to know when the time comes to store by items and answered all of the questions I had. She gave me a quick tour of their main floor and one of the units just to see what it looks like. The building is very well lit and unbelievably clean! I'm not organized. No matter how hard I try, it just never works out in my favor. I mean, I can keep up with it and know where things are or how I did this and how I did that, but if anyone ever needed an explanation of my filing or working process, it would never make sense. Enter Extra Space Storage. They allow for my excessive "stuff" to be packed away and then they do this wonderful thing like give me access to it any time I need it! They help relieve the amount of stuff in my immediate vicinity, which is money in my book! Wendy is a doll and I get a call every time a package arrives for me there (yep, one less trip I have to make and one less signature I have to give!) and a confirmation that I would like it put away for me in my unit. It's close to the freeway (which is convenient) but the entryway isn't from a traffic light, so that can be a bit tricky during a busy time of day on Santa Monica Boulevard (oh, that's right, that's every time of day, humph). Extra Space Storage makes storage easy peasy. read more

As I write this review I also begin a personal journal on my YELPING evolution. I'm not certain, but writing a review solely to spite someone else who conjured up a questionably negative review has got to indicate signs of some sort of growth. Am I now beginning to scribe reviews while standing upright? Do I now review with moral conviction after some sort of epiphany? Who knows? Those philosophical battles shall serve as the impetus for the journal. Without naming names, I shall call into question the second person to review EXTRA SPACE STORAGE in Hollywood, CA. Seeing as that "Mystery" person resides in Florida, I kindly ask that person to refrain from discussing Hollywood, CA and focus instead on gators, oranges, and seasonal debris removal. If you're playing the stock market, sooner or later you'll get played (I got turned out on February 27th). Fortunately, as a new customer to the location in Hollywood, CA I can offset that review with one of my own. With no uncertainty, this place has got to be one of the better storage centers (if not the best) you will find in Hollywood, CA. True, I did find a comparable 10x10 unit for about 20% cheaper elsewhere. But, there were some serious differences. Where else will you find a NEW facility in such great shape? Are you a bit guarded about your business? Then, unlike another facility (a pretty good one actually) you will not be forced to access your unit only while under escort (true policy). Additionally, it won' feel like you need to watch your back while you're there. Sorry, but being near an iconic burger stand does you no good if your worried another customer may pull out their 'gat on the workers while you're there. Currently, the management at the Hollywood, CA location is top notch. Not only are you treated professionally, they remember you by name whenever you stop by. Like ALL storage facilities, staffing is always light. But unlike other facilities, they seem to understand how to handle more than one person at a time in a comfortable, courteous manner. If they had a damn tip cup here I'm SURE I'd drop a lil something in it. Now to close the sale; roll up doors the width of your storage unit, closed circuit monitors throughout, insurance for up to $10,000 available for the asking and well placed parking for accessing your storage. Lastly; understanding their proximity to several studios and the nature of production, this is the ONLY facility that I am aware of in Hollywood, CA (outside of renting space on a studio lot at 4x the cost) that will offer 24 hour unsupervised access. True, the burden of proof is on YOU to prove that you are renting for a 'production company', but it is a burden that is well worth it. Despite the obviously self-service nature of "self-"storage facilities, they still need knowledgeable, helpful people to sell spaces, single-handedly interact with often stressed out customers, provide solutions for all kinds of people and property, logistics and business/financial issues, and many such places are woefully under-or-poorly-staffed. That's definitely not the case here -- at least not if you, like me, are lucky enough to be met and helped by Susie, one of the absolutely most customer-success-oriented and efficient and truly excellent staffers that I have ever had the pleasure to meet! Seriously. She helped turn one of the most frustrating days ever into one of the best by literally solving every single nagging problem we had in planning an imminent storage need -- Suffice to say, she gets the job done and done well for everyone involved. Wendy and Ray manage this property extremely well, and I found them both professional and likable. I had nice chats with both of them. They take pride in the upkeep of the location. They were always eager to answer all of my questions (and I had a lot!), and returned phone calls in a prompt manner. The place feels very secure. When I left before my first month was up, Ray asked if there was anything they could have done better to keep me as a customer, and I quickly reassured him that they were great, but that I had found an apartment quicker than I had anticipated. I went to retrieve items from my storage today after my lock wouldn't open last night. Not sure why that happened, but I was able to lubricate the lock and get it open despite climate control issues which must be the culprit for freezing the mechanism. A new lock should not be tight after two months without use. As I was leaving the unit this afternoon I tried to find someone in the office to unlock the dumpster. As usual no one was there, so I set a folding chair on the street knowing someone would take it. When I got home I had received multiple calls from this facility. I called "Ray" back and was informed that he was going to charge me $25 to move the chair to the dumpster that he was unavailable to unlock in the first place. I informed him I would be terminating my business with ESS as soon as possible. I then hung up and raced back to the facility to move the piddling piece of furniture myself. Of course it was not there. Lo and Behold, Ray was *actually in* the office and informed me he had already taken the chair in question to the dumpster and, I could only assume, that he had charged me that ridiculous unposted fee. He was smug with satisfaction and refused to give me his supervisor's contact information when I requested it; instead condescending that his supervisor would contact me. I informed him that I would not pay the fee, left and put in a move-out notice to ESS immediately upon returning home. For the record, Wendy has always been pleasant but, Ray, on the rare occasions I have seen him in the office, has never been helpful. Furthermore, ESS mis-represented "first month free" when I signed up. The halls smell funny and the moving flats and doors are often malfunctioning. This contributed to my visits to my unit becoming more infrequent. I figure that's the cost of doing business with any landlord, particularly in LA, but this power-tripping employee who obviously rides a camera to find any possible way to squeeze money out of customers for any imagined or blown out of proportion infractions was the last straw for me. I look forward to never dealing with the substandard customer service or overpriced units at ESS ever again. ~Caveat Emptor~ *No Stars* read more

Been using Extra Space Storage on Santa Monica for my job since September and I'm a pretty satisfied customer thus far! Took a couple stars off for a few minor things, but you should know that this place is pretty rockin as far as storage spaces go and the staff members are really excellent. PROS: -Right off the 101 -Wendy and Ray are the BEST! They call every time we get a package! -They let me bring my puppy Mikey (and even remember his name) -Clean restroom in the office -Lots of security cameras CONS: -The dumpster is locked and you need to get permission to open it/throw stuff away. -Found anti-rat/mouse stuff around there multiple times. I HATE rodents and this makes me fear that they are around there somewhere even though I have yet to see one. Let's hope it stays this way. -Random bugs that are gross have been spotted once in a while. Ew. read more
