If I could give zero stars, I would. I rented a unit at Extra Space Storage in Solana Beach (Unit 8165) and found what looks like termite damage inside. When I brought it to the manager's attention, the response was dismissive and defensive. No urgency. No offer to bring in a licensed pest inspector. Just denial and excuses. To make matters worse, they flat-out lied to me about the unit having air conditioning. I called three separate times before signing just to confirm, and every time they said yes. When I showed up, surprise -- no AC. No apology either. Just more runaround. This place is all smiles when they're taking your money, but the moment there's an issue, they shut down and gaslight you. They don't inspect, they don't maintain, and they don't care. Don't trust them with anything you actually care about. read more

I would not recommend this place at all! There's no air conditioning, the units are not secure as I had my storage broken into and I am still waiting for a response from corporate. As a company, you cannot falsely advertise that it is a secure place when there are multiple reviews on Google about storage units being broken into. Staff is nice but there is not any sense of urgency to protect people's stuff as they seem to take interest when you first sign up. Also, the prices seem to go up considerably over a short period of time. You want a very clean and secure storage, try SecureSpace Self Storage Rancho Penasquitos. It's a little farther but worth the drive. read more

I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with Extra Space Storage was disappointing enough that I feel others should be warned. When I initially rented a unit, I specifically asked if the facility had air conditioning - not just "climate control" - and was assured multiple times over the phone that it did. Based on that confirmation, I moved all my belongings in, only to find out after the fact that the unit had no AC. This was not just a minor oversight - it affected the condition of what I was storing and added unnecessary stress and cost. I asked for a refund and was told they would only refund the storage unit fee - not the additional moving costs I incurred because of their misinformation. I had spent money to move everything there based on what I was told, and moving again to a different location would cost even more time and money. They initially promised to refund me $600 for the storage, but to this day, that refund has never been processed. I also asked for a modest $500 to help offset the unexpected moving expenses to a new storage facility farther away - but that was completely ignored. To make matters worse, there were termites in the building / another issue they failed to address. Ultimately, it was the lack of transparency, the false advertising about air conditioning, and the failure to follow through on promised refunds that made this such a bad experience. I would strongly caution anyone considering this facility to think twice. read more

Solana Beach storage (who were the best storage company ever) was bought out by Extra Space Storage this year and I have not had a good experience so far. They initially charged me extra for insurance I did not elect, and wouldn't let me remove it unless I came in to the office in person which I did. On top of charging heavy late fees, they randomly increased my rent this month to $500/month from $400. Do not recommend and am looking for a more affordable storage unit. read more

This service here is absolutely amazing! I called feeling very overwhelmed and stressed out due to me moving, not knowing if my unit was going to be large enough and unsure if my movers will be done in time before this location closed. The gentleman here was very patient and walked me through everything I needed to know while making me feel that he had my best interest at heart. I followed all rules and out on time, as told by each of them in person they know I've cancelled. was still charged after done with this service. out on time. was told wont be charged again and was paid in full. was here for one month and told need to pay second month too- utilizing this storage unit. It was 5x10 and $50 for fees and the first month then 205/month. Then the third month $205 was taken when it was a 0 balance. Philip and Cheyenne helped me. i cancelled through both of them- 2 confirmations. with both employees. In person, confirmed. Won't be billed again. dishonest business, shady, not recommended. Won't be back next time I need storage for one month. After my first month, they said had to pay second month (minimum of two months can't do one month) can't pay cash, (well you can but they chose to charge my card on file for the 3rd month- instead of delete my private credit card info, they had the audacity to not cancel it- though they told me it was canceled. and third month won't be charged, was told the second month. Was still charged. Philip had the audacity to tell me I targeted him. hes the manager that charged me 205$ after I told him my things were out and I canceled and done moving. Try harder to be honest. It's not very hard to just tell the truth. I didn't need 3 months I needed 1 month. It was the size of a closet. And it was not drive up. If I was not mischarged and they would have apologized for taking monies from me, I would have written a good review, and possibly utitilzed this service next time I needed storage. I don't appreciate businesses mischarging people, then not able to take responsibility. no offense but no one is going to see $205 on their bank statement for a service they are not using, and not call to ask who did that.
