EZell's is meh. I consider it about as good as any fast food joint. Good enough but definitely not winning any awards. Some locations are better than others but this location is much lower down on that list. I tried the okra and it was very over cooked but with enough ranch it was edible. The chicken is hit or miss. I've ordered it and had it be tasty enough, and I've ordered it and opened the box when I got home and they gave me what appeared to be all tiny left over little broken off pieces left over that nobody eats at the bottom of the bucket. read more

Standouts from our recent delivery order: Food arrived super FAST, we were really impressed! Favorites were the sweet rolls (wow! So soft, so flavorful, and clearly made fresh/homemade), their traditional yet delicious potato salad, and their spicy chicken. Mac n' cheese was solid with multiple cheese types and textures that you could taste in it. The let down for us was the fried okra; it might have been good if it had been eaten immediately out the fryer, but didn't travel well for a takeout order so we ended up tossing most of it; also we wished ALL of the sauces were homemade (Ranch, Honey Mustard were not), since it seemed like most everything else was. Ezells locations are all throughout Seattle!! This is your fast food stop for fried chicken! That being said, don't get the chicken strips. The pieces of fried chicken are much better, more moist and a lot more flavor. It also feels like a better value. The chicken strips were solid white meat, and the batter was flakey and buttery. The roll was like a sweet Hawaiian bread, which I wasn't expecting. Also, they charges for additional dipping sauces so you have to choose one (additional is $0.50) Overall, this place isn't crazy expensive, it's fine fried chicken, but nothing too special. This is one of the better fried chicken places I've been to for the price and the quality. I'm a Southern girl stuck in the PNW area. Normally, if I want really good Southern fried chicken, I'd have to go back to the South or Texas. Given Seattle's selection of restaurants, this is one of the better fried chicken places. Seeing some of the reviews of this particular Ezell's (the OG location by the way) are crazy. I've been there when it was slow, and when it was busy. Every time, my order is correct, generous, and flippin delicious. Although Mr. Ezell, original owner and chicken man, ended up selling this shop (the reason why there are a bazillion franchises now), the chicken and rolls are still top notch. I only get the chicken tender dinner meals. Their sides have been the same recipe pre-franchise, they aren't the real reason you come to this location. The sides are an accompaniment to the juicy, hefty portions of chicken for an affordable price. I haven't had anything but great customer service, always so friendly and fast. Parking lot can be a bit tight and chaotic sometimes because it's a small lot, but there is also street parking. Lines can be out the door depending on the time and season. The original location, in the CD, across the street from Garfield HS. I use get Ezell's a lot when I lived in Seattle but now that I live in the burbs, I just don't make it to that part of town very often. My palate has changed quite a bit since college for sure. I use to love Ezell's but I was certainly much easier to please 20 years ago. I know the ownership has changed and franchises have popped up from Kent to Tacoma to Federal Way. Menu's still the same. Good chicken at a reasonable price. Crispy and not too greasy. Sometimes it can be a little on the dry side. I always get the spicey. You definitely have to make sure you get some rolls. They are the best. Sides are so-so. I always go with mashed potatoes and baked beans. This location is strictly take out....no tables. The fried chicken is more on the heavy, greasy, crunchy side and is pretty salty tasting. The spicy flavor is better than the original, but is really salty. Do you love fried chicken? So do I! Ezell's had branched out around the Washington area (including a food truck or two), making it more convenient to get Oprah's favourite chicken. Love the chicken, the spice is just right! The rolls are fluffy and buttery and baked in house! The fries are... well fries. They know how to do chicken right! I keep thinking I should order some of their other items, but I keep going right back to what I know. But if you're in to some fried okra, chicken liver or gizzards they have that too! Plus dessert if you like. My only issue is the organization of the location. I understand that it was busy and I was probably there at the peak time. But after we waited to (5-10 min) order we waited another 20+ minuets to receive our order. Yes, it was all fresh and hot. Seattle ain't a midnight kind of town when it comes to satisfying the munchies. In the desperation only felt when you're staying at a discounted Holiday Inn, Jamie W. and I wanted a procrastinator's dinner but found few options open past 9PM. I found Ezell's on the Yelp list for late-night eats, so we trundled off into the dark unknown of the Central District. Upon first sight, Ezell's really looks like a converted Church's franchise. Upon second, third and fourth look for that matter. They even offer original recipe and spicy crispy options like any fast-food chain. The staff is genuinely friendly for a group surrounded by used frying oil, and there were so many variations on fried chicken parts that I was like a kid in a poultry slaughterhouse. Jamie went straight away for the $5.49 basket of Chicken Strips which satisfied his McNugget fix (see photo). I was torn since my default order at $7.59 is the combo two thighs and drumstick with cole slaw and dinner roll (see photo). However, I was also tempted by the $3.49 half-pound order of Fried Gizzards (see photo)... yes, Fried Gizzards, which I grew fond of at Harold's Chicken Shack near the University of Chicago campus. Memories. So I got both, dammit, and stop judging me. Thems gizzards were chewy good especially doused with hot sauce, and the dark meat pieces were fine although honestly nothing you couldn't get at a Church's franchise. Hell yeah! My sister's boyfriend told me about this place. He told me he sometimes saw Sonics players swing by here. Apparently other celebrities have come here like Oprah and the Seahawks team. Any who here was my experience on a Saturday Evening. AMBIANCE: Parking: Parking is all plaza. There's room for about 10 cars. Seating: No seating just drive and go. If you really want to sit, there's the curbs and the seats of your car (if you drove that is). Feels: Semi-lit area nothing fancy just straight business you get a semi nice view of the city. As for the place itself, it definitely looks like it has some age as it's not the most renovated space. Once you enter, you'll notice a picture of a few celebrities that stopped by. Other than that, there's not much, just enough room for you to just a place to order, pickup, check your things and go. FOOD: Fried Chicken (Recommend) You have the choice of regular or spicy. I got both and the spicy wasn't that spicy. The chicken was crispy and hot. Meat was moist and not dry. I recommend investing in some sauces for some extra flavor. Biscuit (Recommend) Best served fresh and with some honey. Toasty on the outside and soft in the inside. It's pretty moist with a nice buttery taste. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Straight to business. Greet, order, help with questions, deliver. Boom! TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. The price was about right and the food was pretty good. To be honest it ain't THE place to be but it has some pretty good chicken and biscuits. I feel like people come here to pay tribute to the hype of fried chicken places in Seattle.
