Ezell's is Seattle's go-to for fried chicken. I've usually only gotten the tenders and not the on the bone options. I'd say to try and avoid taking the tenders to far to go as the condensation from the food will make it less enjoyable. However, the rolls are definitely a must get here. This is also the only place I've found that serves fried okra in the Seattle area. I wouldn't say Ezell's is a bad option for fried chicken, but I would just say it's a little pricey. read more

Chicken was crispy, but kids said the breading was a little bland on both the normal and spice types and chicken itself was really juicy which I liked, but the kids didn't. Been going to Ezells for over 25 years. I ordered my food in person and waited and waited and waited. I saw my very simple order (small spicy strips) just sitting there. I waited longer and longer, finally I just asked if they could slide me my food since it's just sitting right in front of us both. Two employees started yelling at me to leave them alone so they could fill Uber and Doordash orders for people who weren't even there!!! Then one employee started to swear at me and I was done. I was told this was one of the better spots to go for fried chicken in the area. Long story short, I was kind of disappointed and would not go back because I found their COVID set-up to be pretty lacking. The food: I got a standard four piece combo with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The chicken is good but nothing to write home about. It's better than KFC but not definitively better than Church's or Popeyes in my opinion. Yes, the quality suffers when you get takeout because it has to sweat in the box (it was a 10-minute drive for me), but the crispiness was not the issue for me. It just didn't have a strong flavour, and I felt the meat was a little dry. The sides were pretty average. Those rolls are above average though; I would get a lot more of those to be honest. The setup: This place is really popular, but it's very confusing as to what the deal is when you go to order or pick-up. This location has two cashier stations and two open doors, but it's not clear which one you go to for what when you ordered take-out. There were a lot of people milling about and definitely not all 6 feet apart, and a lot of people who looked like they were just waiting for orders were all clustered on one side by the register where you ordered, and 3/4ths of the rest of the space was empty. I walked up to the other register and asked about my take-out order (I was even 5 minutes late) - the lady told me to go to the other one (where I had to stand 3 feet or less from at least 4 people just idling around on their phones) and tell them my name, but no one came back to that register for a few minutes, by which point the first lady called me back to her register with my order... It would take 30 seconds for them to add a "order here" and "wait here" and "pick up here" zone; I was concerned enough about how close I had to be to other people within the restaurant (not on the patio area) that I am quarantining for the next week. So many other places have come up with great ways to handle pick-up, and they fell very short. I get that restaurants don't want to police people anymore than the next person, but if an outbreak happens, it's on them if their set-up was less than proper (which in my opinion it was). At least telling people to go outside if they were waiting would be a good starter. TLDR: the food is like a 3.5 - 4 star range, minus a star for the bad COVID set-up. read more

This place is actually like 5 mins drive from UW campus. It is located next to QFC and other restaurants at Wallingford. It is take-out only! I ordered the 4-piece chicken combos with 2 fresh rolls and 2 homemade sides, Cajun fries and potato salad. The chicken crunchiness was on point, better than church's chicken and Popeyes for sure. I got the spicy ones, but the spices weren't as strong as other fried chicken chains. The fries wasn't that good. It is basically fries with Cajun spices(Popeyes is way better at this). The potato salad was okay, I didn't know what else I should get. The rolls were good, but nothing special. I recommend eating the rolls with butter to add more flavors. Got food from here in person and through delivery (both pre-pandemic). Both times I shared the fried gizzard and some fried dark meat with a friend. This was our first time trying gizzards, and we both liked it so much - the combination of textures in the fried gizzards is just so satisfying and good, and the seasoning makes this and the dark meat absolutely delicious. One of the crispiest but not greasiest fried chicken tenders I've had - their batter also has a nice twist of spices (I think) so it's very flavorful. Had the chicken at a catered event yesterday. I loved both the regular and especially the spicy chicken. Plump and not greasy. I just had to check it out on my own which I did (4th of July) while doing some volunteer work in Seattle. Same great tasting chicken. The bread muffin was very tasty and fresh. Coleslaw was very good. Fresh and just the right spice/flavor. The food was so good I forgot to take a picture to post here. Oops, guess I'll have to come here again in the future to take that photo. Lol. The Mac n Cheese was okay. Outside of Ft. Worth, NYC and my own, I have a hard time finding Mac n Cheese that has a really cheesy taste. I needed a late night meal and everywhere I looked up seemed pretty, 'Meh.' My cousin ordered from here via DoorDash and he seemed to enjoy it. My husband and I stopped by here and there was a small line. We both got small chicken tender combos. I got mine with corn and my husband got the mashed potatoes and gravy. I don't know how they do it, but this place is between KFC and Popeyes in my ranking. The people at the register were nice and informative. I think parking might be a problem when it's peak meal times. I like Ezell's chicken and rarely have they disappointed at any of their locations but this review is for the staff during a couple of recent visits to their Wallingford walk-up. Both times my cashier was friendly, helpful and seemingly not at all stressed by the current Covid-19 situation. Today the order line was all over the place, people waiting for their orders loitered haphazardly and delivery persons buzzed in and out adding to the chaos. But both order and pickup windows hummed right along and the wait times were minimal. They even tossed in an extra piece of chicken, I'm assuming because I was willing to wait a few minutes for spicy to come out of the oven. I don't know what it is about this place that makes me feel like less of a piece of shit whilst eating fried southern comfort food, but I'm a big fan. I just think Ezell's does a pretty solid job of walking the fine line between a greasy fast food chain and a unique fine dining experience. The speed at which you have a delicious meal in your hands...just incredible. Always asked if I will be needing utensils for my take-out spread, which just tips the hat again at the ability to serve a customer. With the food being great, it's just a real home run. I LOVE ezells chicken from the other location. I would always get it take out. I was kind of disappointed they have not worked out quality control issue. I ordered half and half chicken and buffalo tenders. Regular chicken was excellent but could use more salt. The spicy chicken was bland in one bite and the overwhelmingly spicy on the other side of the piece. The rolls were as tasty as ever, but one was unevenly browned. Not bad, just not perfect. I live near the 23rd Ezells, the food there is always fantastic. The chicken is always perfectly spiced, never disappointment. Today I ordered at this location and I was very disappointed. The chicken was a little soggy and VERY under seasoned. I always order the same thing, spicy mixed. There was no spice. There was no love. This is that curse of opening multiple locations. This place is always bustling with people when I drive past it, and its famous so I decided to give it a try. And honestly I think the fried chicken here is just alright. The taste doesn't particularly stand out. The outer fried part has a nice crispness to it but that's pretty much all it has going for me. I think the flavor is also okay but Ezells fried chicken is particularly real greasy. I'm aware fried chicken should be a greasy food, but its more so here that its hard to eat multiple pieces of the chicken here. The gizzards here are fried with the same outer batter. Because of the crispness at Ezells the gizzards were actually a bit better than the fried chicken for me. What is good here is the Mac n cheese. In terms of fried chicked places Ezells has a better one. The flavor doesn't taste like the easy Mac other ones provide and has an nice in depth cheese flavor. I dont think this is the fried chicken spot for me, but I do see how others may enjoy it. read more
