I like to put just vinegar (apple, black cherry, or blackberry/ginger) on a salad as a fat-free dressing. The ladies mixed some of the balsamic and olive oils together to show how well some of them pair together. So I purchased the rosemary olive oil and lemon white balsamic to mix together for fish and chicken. Amazing pair! We ended up picking out seven different bottles of oil and vinegar because they were having a buy six get one free sale! There is a seasonal fog flavour that is very good, as well as the lemongrass mint which was surprisingly refreshing The store associate recommended I try putting it in hot water like tea (?!) which sounds very interesting. I do think the store seems a little expensive. To be fair though, I have no idea how these products compare to what you can buy in store however.

Sweet and salty, rainbow, caramel, cheddar... you name it - they have it. My first time in was this weekend while trolling Findlay Market for some corn. Luckily, I found mama's. HOWEVER - I watched and was disturbed as some unidentified man was popping and tossing kernels! It was, indeed, NOT MAMA. I think this might be false advertising or mama has someone doing her poppin' for her... Popcorn is likely one of the cheapest snacks you can possibly make. Somehow they managed to charge $6 for a bag and it was good enough that I felt okay about it. Now that is kettle corn done right.

The tremendous selection of oils, including a huge variety of those infused with natural flavorings, made Spicy Olive a heaven on earth for me. The balsamics, too, available in white or regular, have an array of flavorings I'd never dreamed of. Black Cherry! For a home made vinaigrette worthy of a five star restaurant. Dark Chocolate! I was astounded at how delicious were strawberries dipped in this stuff, not to mention the fat and calories avoided by dipping in chocolate balsamic instead of melted chocolate. Each variety (and there are SCORES .. Will try to count them on my next visit) has a cards with suggestions on pairings, general uses, and some basic recipes. As Kara said, the staff knows their stuff and will answer any and all questions. You can taste as many as you like and there is no hard sale pressure to buy. You won't need any though! Three sizes of bottles are available which are filled for you directly from the urns (There is a technical name for these containers, which escapes me at present). For high-quality, fresh imported product, the prices are definitely fair, certainly no more than I would expect to pay at one of the above-mentioned stores. If you are torn, they have a great option of six mini bottles for $30, mix and match vinegars and/or oils. For two bucks more you can have your choices gift boxed. (HINT HINT). We went with the six bottle sampler on our first visit as I simply could not decide. I've used at least one of them every day, in salads, sautéed vegetables, roasting, bread and fruit dipping, soup seasoning..... I can see a store like this downtown.... Or in Brooklyn. The place is great, setup of convenience and easy to maneuver around. They don't just have tasting for oil & vinegar, but also for cognac, whiskey, wine. He also told us, they offer food a couple times a week, cooking class, charcuterie class. Bottom line is, if you need specialty oil, vinegar, liqueur, etc., come see them at Vom Fass! You will love it!

I usually leave a spice shop with a large assortment, but not this time. I will admit being less than comfortable shopping here is on me.
