So Facing East used to be a staple for my household. Taiwanese stewed pork rice with it's nice oily rice from the pork lard was always so delicious and on point. I've been eating here since back when they opened. I remember meeting friends and having long wait times. The recipe and/or chef has definitely changed. We ordered the usual stewed pork rice and it was so dry. Not deliciously fatty as it should be and very lacking in flavor. The vermicelli noodles, another Taiwanese staple was the opposite and more oily than it should be, it did have flavor but seemed lacking in ingredients that used to be in these noodles. The oyster pancake was good, very few oysters but had good flavor. The pork belly bun was still delicious so definitely still get that. I want to say that the items were overpriced for sure which is fine if they were all good. Unfortunately for the price it feels like the food should be as good as it used to be and it's really not. I give them 2.5 stars because a couple of the items are still delicious but quality is definitely lacking. Rounded up to 3. I love the beef stew with the pickled vegetables which is very delicious and the tea which I love so much and they have a chili sauce, which is very delicious as well. This is my go-to place for Taiwanese place. Facing East is located in the Belgate Plaza, a few streets away from Bellevue Square Mall. Parking is extremely limited and the spots are also very tight. My favorite dishes to order are the Spiced Pork Stew over Rice, Five Spice Fried Chicken with basil, and Silky Tofu with aged duck egg. The Pork over Rice ('lu rou fan') is a Taiwanese staple. In my opinion, the fried chicken is the best at Facing East compared it to its competitor, HardWok Cafe. The fried chicken is flavorful and crunchy. Since Covid, my family has ordered takeout from here twice because the food the first time around left us craving for more! We have so far tried the Hakka Style Chow Fun, the 5 Spice Lamb, the 5 Spice Beef Shank, the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, the Stir-Fried Green Beans, the Pork Stew over Rice, & the Taiwanese Burgers. Based on our friend's recommendation, we also tried their Mango Grapefruit Sago smoothie from the refrigerated counter inside (note that you can't order this online and will have to just pick it up when you pick up the food). The drink was refreshing because it was basically mango nectar mixed with grapefruit juice and pieces of fresh grapefruit and mango. However, it might just be a one-time drink for me. My favorite dish is definitely the Hakka Style Chow Fun. It's a nice change from the Cantonese style chow fun that you find at most Chinese restaurants because it has pork floss and a sweeter/lighter flavor. I could eat this almost everyday! My second favorite is probably the beef shank because it is tender and well-marinated in 5 Spice. Service was very prompt. I ordered online, and they had my food ready right on time. Note that for online orders through third-party apps, you don't have to stand in line. The orders are neatly organized on tables to the side and so you can just pick up your bag and go. All employees and customers were wearing masks. Social distancing is also enforced as they limit 5 or 6 customers inside at a time. They additionally have hand sanitizer available for customer and employee use. In sum, Facing East might be one of my favorite places for takeout on the Eastside. They used to have done-ins and they were really popular at that time. But now they only do takeouts and probably because they have cooperations with big tech companies, they do not provide dine-ins and move to a very small place in a very small plaza. Stumbled upon this little eatery on a casual weekday night. I ordered the Taiwanese Pork Burger, Spiced Pork Stew Over Rice, Milk Tea, and Beef Noodle Soup. I absolutely LOVED the pork burger, pork rice, and milk tea. Both dishes brought me right back to when I was eating these items in Taiwan, so a big thumbs up for authentic and taste. The burger had a nice big slice of pork with perfect ratios of fatty and lean meat and perfect garnishing of sweet peanuts and cilantro. I haven't had a Taiwanese pork burger this good in a long time! The pork rice was also just as good that was packed with amazing flavor and I always appreciate places that include yellow pickled radishes in their Taiwanese pork rices. The milk tea actually tasted like real brewed tea (instead of artificial powders) with milk. This has been probably one of the best milk teas I've had since coming to Washington. It also came in this super cute reusable glass jar. The beef noodle soup lacked flavor and was a bit too oily for me, in my opinion. It was alright, but compared to everything else, it definitely fell flat as there was nothing super notable which was a little surprising to me. Everything was a 5/5 stars but because of these noodles, I felt like I had to pull it down to a 4.5 (4 because Yelp doesn't do .5s)/5. I come for the milk jars that the coconut and mango drinks they make come in. The service I honestly cannot remember... but that is maybe because I just go for takeout. There food is pretty good and I would definitely recommend the bao buns. As for which one is better the coconut or the mango drink: I'd say the mango because its not too sweet. The coconut one has a coconut texture to it and can get lumpy. Still have the jars though: great jars! Tips: just go for takeout I visited when they had the bellevue location by bellevue square. It's very weird because I expect bunch of people around the restaurant whenever. I'm actually happy that I was served right away. I wanted to order my usual like Tainan shrimp roll and squid pottage, but they didn't serve all the menu for takeout. So I ordered stewed pork over rice, Taiwanese burger, five spice fried chicken and sesame noodles. I've had all in the past except for sesame noodles. All dishes were good as usual! I like the combination of stewed pork, cilantro and takuan/Japanese daikon pickles on the rice. It's even good the next day reheated. Taiwanese burger had mustard green pickles, sweet peanuts, tender pork belly and cilantro, which gives the very unique flavor. Both dishes are so addicting I always go back to. I came here after COVID when they were already takeout only. You can order with a menu upon entering, and they also have a small takeout fridge area where they have some of their cold dishes for easy grabbing. My sister and I ordered a few dishes to go, and ate them pretty shortly after while they were still warm. Some of the dishes were fairly good, while the others were only so-so. We ordered a Taiwanese Shrimp Pancake, a Taiwanese Oyster Pancake, and of course the classic Taiwanese dish - Braised Pork over Rice. We also grabbed a cold dish to try. Out of these items, my favorite was the Shrimp dish. The shrimp is rolled up and they serve it with a little chili sauce. Definitely make sure to eat this while still hot, because it does feel quite greasy as it cools. However, this was full of shrimpy goodness, and paired with the sauce, it was super delicious. The Oyster Pancake, maybe because it was Taiwanese style, was not really my favorite. There were not a ton of oysters, and the pancake dough itself was really sticky. I do believe this is a stylistic difference, because the Oyster Pancakes that I have eaten in Malaysia are definitely less sticky in consistency and more eggy. The Braised Pork over Rice was pretty good, but I would have been slightly happier with a larger ratio of the dish being the pork and not rice. The Stir Fried String Beans are also normally pretty good and flavorful, but they were old and lacking flavor when I picked them up recently. Last time I ordered take out here and decided to try a couple of new things as well. The Five Spiced Chicken with Basil was VERY dry and lacked flavor, I will not be ordered this again. The Five Spiced Beef Wrap was delicious, but I prefer the Pork Belly Hamburger. The Shanghai Styled Pork Belly was delicious, but it was TINY and pretty expensive considering the portions. First thing you need to know. Facing East has the worst parking lot ever! It's small with few spaces, the turn corners are tight, and the spots are small. Drive your smallest car possible. There are no street parking nearby so it's a complete mystery as to where to go if there is no parking, especially if you placed an order and you can't pick it up. Anyway, I avoid this place for the parking alone even though I like their food. This is my first visit since COVID shutdown. I should have remembered sooner cuz I guessed parking would be awesome, and it was! They have their normal take-out menu as well as a heat-at-home Take-Home menu; I'm not sure if the later is temporary. The food: Taiwanese Pork Burger - 5 Stars This is their signature dish. It's beloved by all meat eaters. I even know someone from CA who comes here during every business trip to bring these burgers home to his wife. Sauteed sliced lamb with Taiwanese BBQ sauce- 4.5 Stars A bigger portion would be nice but other than that, this is an excellent well-balanced dish. Very disappointed in what was once, one of the best Taiwanese food joints in the Greater Seattle area. Now, the amount of minced pork you get on top of your rice is pathetic and on top of that my pork was SO dry. I took one bite and honestly threw the rest away. Came here on a Thursday night and there was no wait for a party of four! Food: We got a good mix of stuff in the menu such as the wide noodle dish, the egg battered winter melon, the tofu egg dish, the string beans, and oyster mushroom. My personal favorite was the tofu egg since it was super fluffy and had a good amount of veggies in it too! The mushroom also had a nice leathery texture which was great. I love this restaurant for primarily one reason--the gua bao (pork belly "burger"). The fluffy white bao is even better than some places I've tried in Taiwan! The pork belly is sublime, and I appreciated the generous helpings of pickled veggies, sugared peanuts, and cilantro. Honestly, I found the proportion of these add-ons to be perfect and I wouldn't change a thing even if I could customize it. Obviously I haven't been to every Taiwanese restaurant in America but I have been to Taiwan and the gua bao here is as tasty as most you'd find in the motherland. Seriously one of the best! My favorite spot in Washington/Seattle area. So hard to find. I went two days in a row and still missed it on the 2nd day. My cell phone service drops around there. It is located in a narrow strip mall next to some auto care and self-defense gym sort of places. Bro from Taiwan helped me with my order the first time. I got a Taiwanese burger and pork meatball soup & a cris. tea (sold separately in a glass container). I loved the three golf ball sized meatballs and thought the bao was A+. I think I also got a mango sago that day. It was also a la cart (separately in a glass container). The second day we got a railroad pork rice, the pork meatball in soup, and two items a la carte. This is key because they were the best items: eggplant and the #1 item was the sauteed rice vermicelli. WTF can I say? This rice vermicelli is so good I had to ask my mom what up with it? I also tried the milk tea sold in the glass container and it was bomb. Items I have to try next time include the Tainan Shrimp Roll and anything they have in that little display counter that they constantly refresh. This place is the best. I have great memories coming here with friends regularly throughout the years. However, I haven't been since pre covid days and I'm very disappointed. First, we ordered via online and opted for a "vegetarian" version of the hakka noodles (selectable option via online) but was surprised to see dried shrimp along with meat inside. My friend has a shellfish allergy and couldn't eat any of it. The Cabbage (without dried shrimp) was essentially just steamed Cabbage and it was $10: well overpriced, for essentially, no flavor. The sautéed lamb had very little flavor and we used the spicy wonton sauce to add something. Because without it, it almost tasted unseasoned. The only reason not to give 1 star is the quality service at the cashier and the pork/veg wontons. Additionally, we ordered for 6:00 pickup and received a text 15 minutes early saying our order was ready. SPICED PORK STEW OVER RICE (7/10): I loved Lu Rou Fan. It's so simple, yet so tasty. This one was good, but it was kind of dry and 80% rice. Not a lot of pork and it doesnt come with pickled veggies (just one daikon). TAIWANESE PORK BURGER (5/10): Decided to try this since I love everything it comes with. But it just wasnt it for me. The peanut on top was a lot, but maybe I just didnt get a good one. FIVE SPICED BEEF WRAP (4/10): Probably the biggest disappointment. This is our go to taiwanese restaurant. Updating review since they changed location and are take out only now. My favorite taiwanese dish is beef noodle soup and I've tried a variety of other taiwanese restaurants and found it to be the best here in terms of depth of flavor and meat quality. Our other staple dish is the green beans. Otherwise, we've rotated through a variety of dishes including the five spice chicken, braised pork over rice, pork bun/burger, chow fun, and I'm sure many others. It is always good. I'm glad that the quality it seems is still good despite changes. Before I felt prices were a little steep. Now, prices for all restaurants have gone up significantly--so comparatively I actually think now they are reasonable as their prices haven't gone as significantly higher as others. I enjoy dining here! The food can be pricey but worth it. Not all entrees are over the moon but very decent. I love the Hakka chow fun entree and the shrimp roll. I usually come right when they are open. The wait can be bad sometimes. Parking is a nightmare. The space is very tiny for even a compact car. And of course most people don't park properly. It only takes one or two cars to park out of line and the entire parking area can be messy. I sometimes will order take-out to avoid the wait for the table. If you don't want to deal with parking, take-out orders might be an option to consider. The staff is very nice and friendly. I've been eyeing this place for a while and finally had the opportunity to try it out. I came on a Tuesday evening at 6:30pm and had to wait about 10 minutes for a party of two. You put your name on the tablet and you'll get a text telling you your number and a link that tells you your place in line. You can also send a text to put your name on the list. However, if you don't answer after they call your number twice they will move on to the next one pretty quickly. I walked here since I live close by but parking didn't look great. I don't know if this was on purpose or not but it was about 30°F outside and we were freezing. When we sat down at our table the water they poured in our glasses was slightly warm! I'm used to getting colder water so it was a nice surprise. I'm giving them props for the little details regardless. TAIWANESE PORK BURGER ($5.95) - We ordered this because I saw that it was popular and this was so good! It was sweet and fatty and the crushed salted peanuts cut through it all. This was just lovely. 5/5 PORK FRIED RICE ($9.95) - This was decent. It was a bit oily and the pork was a bit dry. We needed a carb dish and this was satisfactory. 3.5/5 FIVE SPICED FRIED CHICKEN W/ BASIL ($8.75) - This is basically the popcorn chicken that you'd get at Quickly. The chicken was soft and juicy and was pretty good. 4/5 SWEET AND SOUR SPARERIBS ($14.75) - This was pretty good and I liked mixing the sauce with the fried rice but I don't think it was worth the price. 3.5/5 I liked all the things we ordered and I want to come back and try some of their other dishes as well as eat the pork burger again because that was just delicious. read more

Mid-size Taiwanese restaurant near downtown Bellevue. Heard it from people that it was one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area, so had to go try it. Went there for lunch on a Sunday, and managed to snag a table for 2 without waiting. The place did fill up when we left. The menu has pretty typical Taiwanese fare, from beef noodles to crispy cutlet rice. I got an order of crispy basil chicken and the oyster pancake as appetizers. The crispy chicken was decent. The oyster pancake was made using sticky rice flour, so it has a very sticky texture. Kind of interesting, but probably wouldn't order it again. As for the main course, I got the rice combo with the fried chicken cutlet, and that tasted alright. Overall, the food was decent but not outstanding, and prices are not bad. For the Seattle area, I suppose this is pretty good Taiwanese food. 3.5 stars out of 5, and I'll round up to 4. read more

Visited from the DC area and my cousin took us here for a late lunch. Despite coming a little bit later than the usual lunch time rush, it was still pretty busy and we had to put our name down on a wait list. It took ~10 minutes to be seated so it wasn't too long of a wait. We ordered a variety of dishes to try and I was satisfied with all of them! Taiwanese food is a lot less greasy/oily compared to Chinese food. I loveddddd how tender the pork and beef were. The parking situation is not great honestly. It took us a few rounds to find a spot since the shopping center is small and is shared with other popular restaurants and businesses. read more

I've had a lot of Taiwanese/Chinese food over the years, in the LA area, but this place I think is too 3 favorites, maybe #1 beyond dim sum. First there's a lot of dishes that we haven't tried and seem unique like the pumpkin with fried egg, sweet potato pancakes with shrimp and vegetables, and chow fun, but seriously everything we had was so delicious and flavorful and was not oily nor filled with msg like typical Chinese food. Left s very clean taste in our palette especially the beef noodle soup. We also got the pork buns and green beans. The milk tea too was not overly sweet and had a stronger tea flavor. Overall experience was fantastic! On top of amazing food, the service was great, even though we were there 30-40min before their closing. They are located in a small plaza at the very end but their English name is not easily visible. read more

Facing East restaurant is a Taiwanese cuisine restaurant. It is actually at the east of Seattle at Bellevue. This restaurant do not have reservations, but do have sign in computer line upon your arrival. It is good to come at odd hour because the line is shorter. Seem less Lee the line is never ceasing. They always have line at all time. This tell you the food is good around this area. We got the pork pottage. They did a good job not just the soft skin, the interior meat has good seasoning. Very authentic to street food. The second dish is pork pottage with rice noodles. This dish come with thick soup. It is a god dish on cold day. But who care, it is so good that you want more. Our third dish is home style braise egg tofu. This is stir fry dish with home made soft tofu. I have this dish before. Although they are not top of my list but tasty enough. Our four dish is Berkshire pork with mixed mushrooms. His is average dish. It has the straw mushroom in bush. Our fifth dish is the Hakka stir fry with pork belly. This is good dish if you want to wash down with beer. It is also a dish for the small talk over meal. Our experience here is great. It may not has the best service but they do check on you.
