This place is my go to nail salon since moving to philly. I went to a few places in center city that charge anywhere from $45-65 for regular acrylic (more expensive than I'm used to in dc!!!). This place charges $20 normally and they do a PHENOMENAL job. If I was rating this place based on appearance then it definitely would get a 5 star but the service and price can't be beat. They do charge an additional $3 for all services due to covid but even then it's less than half the price of other places. I would definitely call and make an appointment prior to stopping in. Also, keep in mind only two people are working there so if another appointment runs late you might be waiting a few minutes. They take covid seriously and check your temperature when you walk in and make everyone wash their hands. I called for a gel mani walk in for 3 pm. I waited a good half hour to be seen, which was somewhat understandable considering I didn't have an appointment. I really liked their selection of gel colors since they had some variety and definitely were up to date (had some Wicked colors). As far as the manicure itself, I'm not sure if I was just unlucky with the nail tech or what, but the shape and polish was messy. I asked for an almond shape, but the edges weren't smooth, which I blame on the fact that her file was thick and probably couldn't get in there. My one nail had a bad smudge that she just let go. I came here because it was in the neighborhood and based off some Facebook groups, it seemed to be a lot of people's go to. Do not go here! The worst experience I've had at a nail salon in Philly, I called and made an appointment for a gel manicure and gel pedicure, which I was told was $61 for both. Great, I was exited about the price for the both services. This is when things get bad, I start down for my pedicure and to remove my gel paint off my toes the lady proceeded to try to rip off the paint with tweezers, ripping my nail beds and hurting me, instead of drilling or acetoning off the paint. Then I spoke up and asked her to stop doing that as your damaging my nail and hurting me. Once she got to the painting, she painted the nail and the skin under. Pedicure 3/10. I told them I didn't want the manicure anymore because i was so upset about the pedicure job, and she proceeded to charge me $45 for just a pedicure. On the chart they have up on the wall says pedicure- $28 and extra $5 for gel. So where did that $45 come from ? $45 pedicure yeah right. As shown in the picture, trash. Terrible. Terrible. HORRIBLE nail place please don't waste you time coming here. The lady told me a 5 minute wait - ended up being almost 45 minutes. I was OK to wait - but definitely not that long. Then to remove gel they literally had me place my fingers in a bowl of (I'm assuming rubbing alcohol) and leave them in there. I've never had such a horrible burning sensation. When I told the lady it hurt, she said it was the only way to get the polish off. To which I asked her for cotton balls so I could wrap my nails like most other places do. I've gone to multiple salons since things started reopening in June after the height of the pandemic. Fairmount nail salon is the only one wear my nails have lasted and looked great. Wide range of colors and clean salon without any unnecessary frills. They are very serious with their COVID precautions which include hand washing upon arrival, temperature taking, signing a COVID waiver, plexiglass surrounding stations, mask wearing, and sanitizing stations between each client. The prices are still the most reasonable in the area and have only increased by $3 from their pre-COVID prices. They are not accepting walk-ins, so call ahead for an appointment. read more

They are definitely a no frills type of place (no hot towels, lotioning of the hands, ect). And you have to be mindful that there are 2 people working, I had an appointment for 5pm, got there at 4:45 and was helped at 5:25. I got a regular pedicure and a dip manicure and both were nice. I just moved a block away so I was hoping this could be my new nail place. Unfortunately I don't think I could try it again. And based on the reviews it gets so busy that they likely have zero intentions on improving. When you first walk in the place is a bit of a dump. Furniture crammed in. Not dirty, but VERY dingy looking. Old/cheap looking furniture and furnishings all over. But I decided not to judge a book by its cover and wanted to see if they did a good job. Well there was one other client there and 4 people working but still I waited 20 minutes sitting in the pedicure tub. When she finally got to me everything was very rough. She used a nail file designed for artificial nails on my natural nails. I wouldn't say it hurt, but it was REALLY uncomfortable. But the buffer she used was so old and dingy that it was falling apart and barely effective. When she did my cuticles, again there was some discomfort. I kept flinching because it was so uncomfortable. Very thorough with the buffing of my feet and surprisingly did not feel uncomfortable at all. Then came the massage. Me personally I couldn't care less about a leg or foot massage but I get that most people love it. So this is for the others that read this. The massage was very quick. About 30 seconds on one leg and about 90 seconds on the other. No pressure and extremely far from relaxing Time for the polish. She never wiped the lotion from my nails with acetone. Which means that it won't last very long. But she did a decent job on polishing. All in, the whole the entire thing was just under 20 minutes long. Probably the worst pedicure I've ever had. I got a gel manicure. Everything was average. I went around 1:30 on a Monday and didn't have to wait. I was really hoping this place would be great because I live on the same block. I saw it had mixed Yelp reviews so I wanted to see for myself. My nails look fine if you're looking from a distance. Up close they look sloppy. The paint is fine, it's mostly just my cuticles that don't look great. Despite the fact she used the cuticle trimmer like a million times, to the point where my fingers almost felt raw. My left hand looks way better than my right hand. I think she was getting restless and was trying to hurry the process along. Which is ridiculous because there were only 2 other clients getting manicures and 1 getting a pedicure. She asked me if I wanted to cut my nails and I said only a little bit. But she made them quite short. I should've just asked her to file them. She also barely used the buffer, only after she scraped my nail beds with the cuticle trimmer, which obviously just felt awful. Luckily I have very strong natural nails, otherwise, yeesh. The place could be cleaner. Some of the lamps have finger nail dust on them and when she was clearing what was cut from my nails she brushed them onto the floor. Otherwise everything looked fine. Some people here were commenting on the cheapness of the chairs which now I realize is a bit silly considering the chairs they were referencing were only the waiting chairs - no biggie there. It is a small space, but nothing they can really do about that. But when she told me to pick a color (color selection is sub-par) I had to squeeze by the payment counter and a nail station - practically knocked the other client's phone off the table with my coat. Very awkward. The heat was on full blast and even though today was 18 degrees outside I was still sweating in my sweatshirt. I think I might just be spoiled because my usual place (back home in Baltimore [Future Nails in Towson if you're in the area]) is amazing and so attentive. They even open up a new packet of cuticle trimmers/files each time so you know they're sterile. The ones here were just sitting in a jar on the table, not even in any kind of disinfectant - that grossed me out. All in all if I'm in a hurry for a manicure I'll return because I live so close but definitely nothing I would go out of my way for. Gel manicure is $25 plus I left a $5 tip (because I'm polite and only had a 5 on me). Not worth it to me. I wouldn't recommend. There's a salon on the corner of Fairmount and Broad/Ridge that's always packed so I'll probably try there next time. read more

I've tried over the years with this salon because unfortunately it's the only one in the area but I've given it up for good. The mani/pedis range from just OK to bad depending on who you get. The women working there chat to each other the whole time, stop to watch something on TV or take personal calls which is very annoying. Last time I was there one of them had her foot up on her chair and was doing her toes, ugh. It is totally unprofessional. The girl with the glasses rushes and tears up your nails something awful. She is rude and doesn't even say thanks for an undeserved tip. The other refused to take an appointment and tries to get you to book with someone else. They are all pretty unfriendly. Don't bother getting here at 9AM when they are supposed to open, they are always late and you'll be standing on the sidewalk. The drying machines are all on their last leg and don't do a thing. I got gel manicure done, and what typically averages 45 mins-1 hour from other nail salons took only 25 mins (not rushed at all) and I'm very happy with the result! To top it off, although I didn't have any cash to tip, the staff was so nice about it and didn't make me feel uncomfortable in any way. The woman asked me how far away I was and I replied "15 minutes" (it takes me 10 to walk from my house to get there). She encouraged me to come now because the wait wasn't long. I get there and there are four people ahead of me. Fine. I decided to wait and about three other women with appointments come in. This was not communicated to me until after the women were lead to the back room for their pedicures. After waiting an hour and hearing that a thunder storm was on its way I decided to leave. I made an appointment for three days later, got there and waited for 40 minutes. What shall we take away from this experience? No appointment = an hour + wait With appointment = 40 minutes. I will say that their prices are reasonable and they do a good job. I am just not a fan of having to clear my entire day to wait for something that should only take 30-45 minutes. read more

I went here to get my eyebrows waxed, something that I have been doing for 10 years - the wax felt a little hot, but I didn't think much of it. When I got home my eyebrow hurt, a lot. The woman had BURNED MY ENTIRE BROW (underneath my left eyebrow). I ended up having to go to the doctor because it wouldn't heal. I had 2nd DEGREE BURNS !! Not to mention that I had to walk around with a large (the entire lenth of my brow), violently red burn on my face for 2 WEEKS. That's right, it finally started to heal after that. The length of the wait on a Saturday afternoon was proportional to the length of time my manicure stayed. Both were unusually long. I probably waited close to an hour, but my polish stayed on with basically no chipping for over a week! I hardly ever get my nails done, but on a whim one day I stopped in. Good selection of colors and good prices. My manicurist snipped my cuticle causing it to bleed for a while (kind of painful and gross) - but she was profusely apologetic and at least the tools seemed sanitary.
