Joe makes the best food. It's very authentic and local sad to see he decided to close down.

Sahara Middle Eastern Cuisine is truly one of our favorite restaurants in Pasadena. We've been…read morecoming here for the past few years, and the food is consistently extraordinary. Their kebobs are cooked over actual coals, and you can absolutely taste the difference. The chicken is always incredibly tender and flavorful, the beef is tender and perfectly cooked, and I have a friend who could probably live on their tzatziki. Everything is fresh and thoughtfully prepared every day. But as wonderful as the food is, the people are what make Sahara so special. Ana owns the restaurant with her husband and runs the kitchen, and she and the entire staff are simply amazing. This is a true family-owned restaurant where you can feel the care that goes into both the food and the way they treat people. After we lost our home in the Eaton Fire, in Altadena, we were living in a hotel and would come to Sahara for dinner. Every time we came in, they insisted on sending us home with extra food so we would have something to eat later. At a time when our lives had been completely turned upside down, that kindness and generosity meant more to us than I can possibly express. Extraordinary food made by genuinely wonderful people. We love Sahara, and I feel very lucky to be able to support a local family-owned business that puts so much heart into what they do. If you haven't been, go. And get the kebobs. And definitely the tzatziki. And, the tahini...but leave some for my husband because he loves it on the lamb skewers.

But anyways, I got their appetizers sampler for 2 with falafel, sarma, and, cucumber yogurt and combo plate with chicken and filet to try. They even gave me this drink but I don't drink so let someone else have it. Was pretty and cool to hold tho. The falafel had a strong bell peppery flaves with a crumbly interior and crispity crunchity exterior. The sarma was filled with a tangy herby umami tart tomato rice which was wrapped in a fibrous grape leaf. The cucumber yogurt was chunky, dilly, and refreshing and paired really well with the crispity crunchity fried pita chips and bread. The combo plate came with bulgur rice which reminded me of oatmeal but in rice form, juicy grilled tomato and pepper, tender, meaty and perfectly cooked filet cubes and juicy and savory chicken thigh chunks with some Sweet crunchy onions. Overall this place is pretty good. Appetizer sampler for 2 $13 Combo plate $25

Update: Finally decided to try their restaurant with a big group - we were always more than 10 lol…read more Place was easy to find, lots of street parking, there is parking in the back but a bit tight. Of all else fails, there is a lot close to the restaurant. I believe its ok to park there. Food is consistently good! I had already mentioned this in my previous review so no surprise there. Service - very warm, welcoming, its as if we've known each other for years! We loved it so much that we have been coming here several times now. It's becoming our go to Middle Eastern place and we never get tired of it. We are in fact having dinner tonight with a other large group of 20 people. FYI - they do not serve wine but you are more than welcome to bring your own and they will provide the wine glasses without corkage.

The location has a much different set up as the parking lot circles around the business. The lot is small so street parking is another option. They offer daily Happy Hour menus as well. The location is open air with the windows as Hookah is available. The staff allowed us to sit where we pleased as it wasn't full upon arrival. The energy was vibrant and lively with music playing and the TVs showing the NBA game. Cafe X20 had a some new menu options that I decided to try one. My wife and I usually love the White Fish plate so she ordered it. I went with the Char-Grilled Chicken Thighs with grilled veggies and spicy hummus. Our orders came out in adequate time. And they give a bag of pita bread. These dishes looked so appetizing you can't wait to dig in! The chicken thighs were grilled tremendously and the char added a new wave of flavors. A nice addition to the menu. Both dishes would be reliable options. The plates look colorful and are filling. Your tummy will be happy! Cafe X20 consistently delivers on their customer service and menu items no matter the location. Thanks for the delicious food! ( ^_^)b

Lo and behold, thanks to Christina the business exists on here and has been christened "Jiang Xiang Bing Guy"! Although he was working solo that day, when I decided to return on an empty stomach, he had an assistant helping with seasoning and chopping up the 酱香饼. There were about five folks waiting by the time I got there Sunday evening. The guy with the blue UCLA hoodie was purposefully putting on a show, since he had two phones set up for streaming. Every now and again, when he gets a request from someone, he would say "OK no problem!" and continues with kneading, rolling, and transferring the dough to the big ol' frying machine. At $10 per order, perhaps a part of the cost is the spirited mini-interactions. After paying via Venmo, I showed the gal my phone. 他是老板 she said jokingly as she handed me the food. I had mine mild, and honestly it was a delightfully crispy and savory snack for a cold winter evening.

Intrigued and a lover of street foods, I went last night to check it out hoping he was at the same spot and he was! (Honestly San Gabriel Superstore parking lot be popping with bomb street food stalls and trucks over these past years). The guy was calling his food a Chinese pizza but it's actually a Chinese street food called Jiang Xiang Bing(酱香饼) which basically means "saucy pancake". If you can't speak Chinese(don't worry he does understand English though but he spoke to me in Mandarin by default lol), just give him $10 and he will give you a portion. If you don't have cash, he has QR codes for digital payments and once it goes through you can hear his phone notification from his car. When he's done making the bread and ready to chop it, he will ask you how spicy you want it. You can say "xiao la" for mild or say yes and nod your head for the regular spicy lol. The pan fried flat bread was crispy and the sweet and spicy soy bean sauce really went well with it, I'd get it again!!!
