SO much like my endless quest for the best burger, great falafel has been an elusive target at least here in the SF Bay Area. However, thanks to my son who is on a Mediterranean'ish food kick, we decided to give Falafel Flame a try. WOW! we came away impressed. This review encompasses two separate trips. First off the customer service is fantastic. The owner is friendly and personable, the establishment is clean, and the food comes out quick but complete which in these takeout days is a huge plus! The food: Philly Wrap: SO good! look at my age nothing says "The Buyers Remorse" like a Phillycheese. I love them but my system cannot handle taking one down anymore. But since my son wanted one we gave it a shot. OMG was it good. Sub in the gyro meat for the sketchy beef other places use, plus cheese, onions and peppers and it was the perfect bite. The richness of the cheese and the super tasty meat, plus the other furnishing made it perfect. The pita held up to the juicy onslaught as well. Falafel Platter: Again awesome!. Perfectly fried falafel with plenty of parsley, just the right amount of cumin. And when I say perfectly fried, they were crunchy on the inside and moist but properly done on the inside. The hummus again had that perfect consistency as well a again just the right amount of cumin. Combo Platter: Tender lamb properly spiced and perfectly cooked chicken. Not much to add to this. Rice: Its usually an afterthought but the batsmati rice was cooked in what I describe as Persian style (lose and not sticky) with some turmeric seasoned grains scattered about. The spicy sauce had just the right amount of heat and had a thick consistency. The white sauce was yogurt based and did a great job of cutting the richness of the proteins. It's exciting to see a halal place open up in this section of Sunnyvale, sharing the same plaza as Lucky's. I ordered for pickup and my food was finished around 20 minutes (which is the exact wait time they told me over the phone, woohoo!). The Combo Platter was a little expensive at $15.99. This burger is super big as I was eating it the food was spilling out along with the sauce. You know the saying, if it doesn't get all over the place than it doesn't belong in your face. I had to make a Yelp account to leave a review because the food safety issue I experienced tonight was so egregious. I ordered a chicken burger and when I started eating it I realized the chicken was undercooked/basically raw (see photo). I brought it back and they were apologetic and gave me a refund and remade the burger. I was fine with this since mistakes happen, but when I started to eat the remade chicken burger it turned out that it was clearly very undercooked too. It is ridiculous that even on the remake they could not cook chicken through enough to be safe to eat. You would think they would have been extra careful to make sure it is cooked thoroughly. Mistakes happen once, but doing it a second time in a row after being told shows gross negligence. I had eaten here before, but safety is the most basic and important thing to get right so I can't go back and I feel I should warn others away as well. This could make people seriously ill or worse and now I am left anxiously waiting to see if I get food poisoning. read more

I've been here 3-4 times and tried a variety of dishes, including the chicken kebab plate, the chicken shawarma plate/wrap, and also a badmaash burger with fries. What I would say is the first time I got food from here, I quite liked it (I got a spicy chicken shawarma plate and it was very reasonably priced), but since then, I would say the food has been average to good - The burger was pretty big but was a tad messy - The portions of the protein have gotten smaller for the wrap/plate, they do not replace salad with fries (that is fair! Although some other places do) Given the quality of other Mediterranean options around in the area, and the spike in prices (I feel other places offer more value for money, since you get to choose your toppings, sides, and have bigger portions), I don't think I will be frequenting this place. Searching around the area for middle eastern food and tried Falafel Flame. The philly wrap definitely tastes like a philly cheese sandwich and yet it was like a shawarma. Getting the best of both worlds! A bit greasy, maybe from the melted cheese, but it was still good! The 2nd dish was my bf's gyro platter made with lamb and beef. He gobbled that up and enjoyed it. I had a hankering for a gyro last night so I hopped on Yelp. I do have my favorites, but I'm also trying to support new restaurants because it can't be a walk in the park to open something during Covid times. But I'm glad I checked out Falafel Flame, as it's getting added to the rotation! I ordered the combo platter, chicken platter, combo kebab platter, a gyro, and a basket of curly fries. It was all delicious! I'm generally a little wary of the extra stuff that comes in platters vs a la carte, but this was worth it. The hummus is great and the salad is super tasty! It was fresh and crunchy with the perfect amount of dressing or oil or whatever they put on it. The pieces of chicken in the kebab combo were easily shreddable with a fork, not dry at all. I did decide I prefer the slices of meat over the kebab style, but that's possibly because of the sauce they drizzle over it. Also I'm sure that the regular fries are good, but get the curly fries. Just do it. Lastly, the tzatziki is really good and I'm asking for extra next time. When I was leaving the restaurant, the guy who rung me up said, "Let us know how you like our food," and I assured him that I would. So here I am, leaving a five star review! read more

Please note: this is a Covid-19 era review. When things finally return to normal, your experience will be different. 3.5 stars but I'll round up to 4. We had a good meal from here, but there is room for improvement. We walked up instead of ordering ahead. Because of Covid-19 restrictions, we weren't able to walk up to the counter to place our order. We rang the little bell on the table set up just inside the door, and the person behind the counter responded quickly. They appeared to be doing fairly brisk business through GrubHub/DoorDash/UberEats, as there were a handful of bags at the door and a steady flow of drivers picking them up. We ordered two gyros platters, the lamb kebab, and the chicken kebab. The gentleman taking our order said that it would be about 20-25 minutes before our food would be ready, so we wandered around this shopping complex to kill time. Before we left, he offered us a complimentary cup of hot tea, which was appreciated. Our food was nicely packaged in compartmentalized containers. The protein was served on a bed of basmati rice. The smaller sections contained a salad and hummus. Sauces were provided in separate small tubs, and we each were given a pita. Lamb kebab - fairly tender, but perhaps just a little too overseasoned as the native flavor of the lamb seemed masked. When eaten with the green cilantro based sauce, it was really quite good. Chicken kebab - very nice. Large, moist juicy of chicken that were more delicately seasoned than the lamb. Gyros platters - mixed bag here. One of the platters had nice tender and moist slices of meat, but the other platter had a lot of dry and tough pieces. Hummus - reasonably good, not as smooth as I would like. Salads - good dressing, just too much of it. Pita - soft but no pocket. Could stand to be just a little fluffier. One small additional gripe is that I showed my Yelp check-in that should have gotten me a free baklava, but this was left out of our bag and we didn't discover it until we got home.
